Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Different but Wonderful
Modern good size rooms, beautiful adjoining pools and a fantastic rooftop infinity pool make this a great place to stay. Though smaller than most all inclusive resorts, the excellent service surely made up for it. Friendly efficient bellboy service, courteous front desk personnel, regular room cleaning and fridge restocking are all part of the package of this smaller resort. A smaller buffet offers Mexican and American far and yes you can get made to order eggs.. A great snack buffet overlooking[... read more] the ocean (great hamburgers) changes to a Brazilian a la carte. We were able to get reservations at the a la carte restaurants (French, Mexican, and Brazilian) each evening and could call the concierge from our room. Very little entertainment in the evenings but Mall and downtown Puerto Vallarta nearby. We really enjoyed our stay. Will return.

Fiesta Americana Riviera Nayarit: Good Resort, certainly a 4 star
We stayed 11 days in Feb 2015 at Dreams Villamagna in Puerto Vallarta. On the plus side: All the staff were fabulous, no issues at all. Everyone working there was always friendly and attentive to what we needed. The rooms were clean and kept clean, food at the buffet and restaurants was excellent and the restaurants were always easy to get into i.e. no waiting.
Negative side: There are 250 condo's attached to the resort and the condo people seem to take up all the beach chairs by leaving towels [... read more]on them early in the morning. You know it's people from the condo's because it's not hotel issued towels that they leave. Also even though the hotel is listed as on the beach, the 250 condo's stand between the hotel and the beach, so it's a bit of a trek to the beach from the hotel. End result is the people in the condo can run out of their condo at 6am and secure a beach chair and then go back to bed while this is not an option for the people in the hotel. We over came this by not going to the beach until 2:30 in the afternoon which was when beach chairs started to become available.
Also we booked a junior suite with jacuzzi not really knowing what this will look like. The jacuzzi is outside and takes up about 1/2 the balcony. We never used it and could have settled for a junior suite without the jacuzzi and saved a few dollars and got more balcony space.

Fiesta Americana Riviera Nayarit: After 10 yrs we finally found it!
We traveled to Dreams Villamagna from Feb 14-21st. After spending a week there we have to say we do not have 1 complaint. The up most amazing service everywhere we went. Staff would walk up to you and ask if everything was OK was there anything they could do for you.
Check in and check out was quick and efficient we asked for an up grade and they were able to accommodate us with out a problem.
Food was amazing! You could eat at any of the restaurants anytime with out a reservation. Only once di[... read more]d we have to wait to be seated and we were offered anther place to sit and a drink while we waited. Food presentation was fabulous.
Bars, bartenders and waiting staff were out of this world. Very quick and efficient never had to wait long anywhere. We sat up by the beach bar and they were determined that they served us at our chairs no need to get up and walk the 50 ft to the bar. Julio and Junior were the best they never stopped! One thing that I noticed I have not seen anywhere else is at the bars there are dishwashers. The cups just don't get a shake and a rinse. They actually do get washed!
Our room was more than we expected! Beds and pillows were comfy. Rooms were kept immaculate. Fridge was stocked daily! Turn down service every night with you mail and chocolates on your pillow. You would receive a memo on the next day activities, restaurant hrs, weather and the drink of the day!!! Jacuzzi on your deck was a nice treat as well! We also ordered room service a cple times and it was lovely. When you called down it was hello Ms Roy how can I help you. We asked for Spanish Coffee once and at first they said they were unable to bring it. They will call before they deliver to see if there was anything else they could get for us and to tell us by the way we were able to get your Spanish coffee for you! Again the staff always goes out of their way to please!!!!
As I said in the beginning we could not find one complaint with this resort. Cant wait to return and also visit other Dreams and its sister resorts!
Hats of to all of the staff that work at Dreams Villamagna as you really know how to make a person really feel like they are at home!

Crown Paradise Club: Great Family Trip
My family and I stayed at this resort from Feb 8-22. This was our first trip to Mexico and it exceeded our expectations. This resort is right beside the Marina and a local grocery store. There were positives and negatives about this resort but overall a good resort for families with children.
Our room was the standard room and we thought it was very nice and clean with a beautiful view of the ocean. We were debating whether to stay in this room or a family room and were glad that we went with th[... read more]is room. We had a chance to go into a family room and it was the same size as our standard room, the only thing that is different is the kids would have their own sleeping area but to get this the balcony becomes a one person standing area over looking a road. Our beds were new but way too hard as were the pillows which made for 2 weeks of restless sleep. There was no fridge in the room which would have been nice to have.
The resort is very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate mostly at the buffet which we thought was really good but we did hear people complaining about it. The beach snack area had pretty much the same food every day which was ok because we liked the hotdogs and hamburgers. My favorite place to eat was the snack shack by the main pool which opened from 4-11, the best burritos, I couldn't get enough of them! The pirate ship/kids area was very nice to have as our kids(4 & 6) spent a lot of time there. The main pool is very nice, warm and has a bar right there. We never spent a lot of time at the infinity pool but it is very nice and is right beside the beach. The adults only pool is more of a warm bath tub but as one gentleman pointed out, "it has a bar!" The beach is nice but I wasn't expecting to have that many locals trying to sell their merchandice to us, over and over and over again and the rope barrier is just a decoration or a tripping hazard!! The locals usually walked on if you waved no but it became very annoying and as a result we only spent 3 days on the beach! The bartenders worked really hard to get you what ever you wanted, the only problem I had was there was only one choice in beer and that was Corona, which would be ok but I'm a beer drinker and apparently I'm allergic to something in Corona. Over all it was a good resort, especially for families with young kids and we would go back there.
Id like to make a few suggestions for management:
-There should be a safe key for every room in the resort, waiting a day to get one is really unacceptable
-The Adults only pool should Only be an Adults only pool at night because this resort is marketed as kid friendly and it would have been nice for the kids to have a pool to warm up in on the few cool days that we had there. If the adults wanted to have a pool without kids, all they would have to do is go to the other Crown resort (Adults Only) which attached to this resort and all adults have access to anyways! Make this pool for adults some time at night and keep the bar open later.
-The gym on both resorts is small and very lacking on equipment
-A few different choices in beer (I wasn't happy having to buy beer from the local grocery store)

Samba Vallarta: Small Old and Tired
Thought we were getting a good price on a 4 star resort when in fact it was a well paid for 3 star resort. Resort is well taken care of but still old and tired. Needs a lot of remodeling all over.Rooms, food, staff, services - all just adequate at best - not 4 star quality. Not a resort for young singles or couples without children - resort geared to families with young children and the elderly. Beach is very nice and lots of lounge chairs. Three areas that need to be addressed on this resort 1.[... read more] the offensive odor coming from the washroom area at the beach entrance that wafts up to the pool and bar lunch room area , makes eating or sitting in that area rather unpleasant, 2. tipping that is expected not earned. Service is no better if you tip or don't tip but is still expected - you get this look of tip me because l did my job. 3. No water sports equipment as advertised - had the equipment ( kayaks etc.) but according to the front desk they had no permits to use them. Had to rent from Riu property next door.
Would not return to this resort as it stand now unless these issues are looked after or the price is a lot cheaper than what we paid.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit: wonderful experience
This All - Inclusive resort was beautiful. It was rated 4 star. We have never been to a 5 star and cannot imagine what it would be like. This resort was 5 to us. Staff was amazing and could not do enough for their guests. We never heard " sorry we don't have that" or "sorry have run out of that". Food was also excellent. Desserts were repetitive but we didn't miss anything as we always enjoyed and were full from the rest of the meal, and that comes from someone who loves their sweets! You have a[... read more] choice of a la carte or buffet or both at the same time as both were offered in the same restaurant. The trays of food at the buffets were small but always replenished therefore never looking sloppy and picked over. It always looked fresh and inviting. Never had to wait for a new replenished tray to arrive.
Staff whether they were front desk, housekeeping and even bathroom attendants, they all paid attention to the smallest of details. The restaurant waiters were very attentive and with at least 2 per table.Their service was very polished. The pool side waiters never stopped running back and forth and always very pleasant. There were plenty of waiters checking with us making sure we were well hydrated ( and fed) whether it be with water or alcohol. Speaking of alcohol, we were very relieved that we never saw anyone ever stupid drunk in the 8 days we were there. This is a great place for families as well as other age groups. Our age group is 55+. The resort made changes a few years ago and do not tolerate drunken party animals. A great decision & well appreciated. We found our studio ( no studios are pool side) which face the garden was a good choice as we found it to be very quiet. Balcony (suites) units which face the pool could probably be quite noisy. Room 3105 (stands for building #3 ) was excellent. Beds, linens, towels and even pillows all excellent.

Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort and Spa: Trip was wonderful
The trip was wonderful we got a lot of rest and had a lot of fun
The resort was breath taking beautiful, and having privileges next door to Secrets was also an added bonus
The food was great at every restaurant we tried, no hassle reservations, even the buffet and beach party food was perfect. Pool bar service was outstanding. Fernando saw us coming over and would grab an umbrella for my husband before we even asked.
The rooms are definitely 4 star plus and the view from our balcony was spectac[... read more]ular. When they advertise ocean view - it is true!
It was our choice not to golf (although we dragged along our clubs with us) Golf is not all inclusive when you have a 30 min one way cab ride at 20 dollars plus, 45 dollars each per person for the golf cart, plus tip for the mandatory caddie (20 dollars per bag),plus what ever you drink We did not want the hassle or the extra expense, this time.
We did expect the beach not to be perfect, on this coast of Mexico that is common. Red flag every day, but we walked the shoreline.
One negative is: Right away when you arrive, a representative sits you down and tries to sell you the "beach club" time share. We are Canadian and we are polite enough to listen to her and book an appointment (that we did not keep). Really, we should have been notified in advance and been told it is okay to say NO. All week every time she saw us, she call after us, gave us dirty looks and she even call my husband by the wrong name! It just became a joke after the first few days.
All in all, thanks for a good choice

Plaza Pelicanos Grand: Enjoyed Ourselves
I always love going to Puerto Vallarta. Weather was great, most people where very friendly. Here are some issues that we ran into. Not the end of the world but they were a bit of a disappointment. Upon arrival at airport we were meet by representative and placed in cab to Hotel unfortunately we were dropped off at the Club not the grand so we were placed in a different cab and dropped off at the grand. The lady who checked us in was not very friendly whats so ever. Not a huge deal but we were ex[... read more]cited and she didnt care I know everyone has a bad day. We did have rain one day downpours and our room roof leaked through the vent onto marble floor as most people are aware marble floors and water are an accident waiting to happen. We called down to front desk tell them and get extra towels well no one showed ended up having to go down and get myself they were not very responsive as I though they should have been. I just didnt want to break my neck. Other than those items we had a great time. All the other staff helpful friendly. I describe it as a good vacation.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Offers a wonderful Mexican holiday
Hotel amenities are basic and simple, kept immaculately clean several times a day. Bicycles are rudimentary, kayaking disappointing as restricted swimming area, sailing cat only available for 1/2 hr with assigned skipper. Food very good (not fancy), but tons of fresh veggies, lots of fish, polo. Be prepared for lots of noise. Beach club located over hill in next village well worth the hike or shuttle.

Las Palmas by the Sea: You get what you pay for!
Just came back from Las Palmas. Service staff are very friendly, except for the specialty restaurant. Nothing is 100%. Light bulbs in the fixtures of our room were of different wattage and light quality and output. The shower overflowed regularly. Food at the buffet was bland and not very interesting. Why not serve Mexican food? Had to ask for a salt and pepper shaker at every meal. The location is OK. At high tide the none-flooded beach area is negligible. Costa Club Punta Arena: Family Vacation!!
Just spent a family vacation at this hotel from January 30- February 13, 2015. The hotel has made a lot of upgrades since we started going 6 years ago.
