Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Not so Good
Have been on lots of all inclusive Vacation however it was my first in Cuba. I was not expecting the food to be the best nor the rating to be the same as other tropical places. What I was expecting was a clean friendly environment for my 5 day stay. Unfortunately the resort was not clean. One women even mentioned that she had sat with her feet up in the restaurant after seeing a mouse. The service was very slow they had no beach towels for 3 days no spoons at breakfast and you had to run the hot[... read more] water for 15 mins before it heated up. I do realize that hurricane Irma went through and supplies were limited. Having said that if I had know in advance I may have reconsidered. I certainly would not recommend this particular resort after my experience and probably will not return to Cuba.

Tryp Cayo Coco: almost perfect!
Food was better than any place in cuba i went before! this is my 6th time in cuba in 10 years. It's still cuba but i was really surprise. The hotel is small and welcoming. I prefer samll places than big hotels. Everything clean and nice. My only little concern is on weekend were local would come in. Never saw that kind of behaviour with local before very dirty habits by letting all their food on the floor or dropping their garbage on the floor instead of in a garbage can...the staff looked exhau[... read more]ted with them and angry but as soon as they were gone smile were back! i would recommend but make sure the person knows what to expect know that side. Also i think they should charge by person not by room maybe that's why staff was short on weekend 10 person for one room...)

Melia Cayo Coco: Great visit
We just returned yesterday from Melia Cayo Coco (1st visit) Upon arriving the frontdesk staff were great, Check-in was super quick.
We upgraded to the Lagoon Room when we booked the trip- We wouldn't do that again. The lagoon or sewage smell was horrible. Everyday leaving from our room to go anywhere we had to walk down the walkway where it smelt like a backlog of bathroom sewage. The room itself was nice, The only reason we would not book that room again was for the smell.
Because we booked [... read more]the lagoon room we received the upgraded breakfast- The breakfast was excellent, zero complaints there.
Lunch Buffet- We didn't care for the lunch buffet at near the pool- We would usually order lunch at the restaurant on the ocean.
Dinner Buffet- We really enjoyed the dinner buffet by the pool. Great food and great selection.
The Pool- We used the pool once. We were really disappointed to see signs everywhere saying people aren't allowed to hold chairs but 80% of the chairs being held by towels, So because we were following the rules and not coming out at 8am to put towels down we were out of luck and didn't get a chair.
The staff were great, Very accommodating. The drinks were really good! We ate at the International and Cuban restaurants and they were both great. Only thing i forgot to do was use bug spray before going to the Cuban restaurant as its right on the ocean and the mosquitoes are pretty bad (but that was totally our fault). I did find a lot of favoritism at this hotel. The returning guests always had there drinks refilled in a timely matter and there were quite a few times we felt like we had to flag people down or just go up and order ourselves. This is a very quiet resort so if that's what your in search for then this is the place to go! We were in room 2222 on the lagoon so super close to everything

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Not Our Happiest Experience
Overall we found the resort to be very clean and welcoming. It was quite large but never felt crowded. The beach was excellent and offered a very positive experience. Overall the food was less than positive as it was very often cold when it should have been hot. As well the room had a very musty odor which made staying in the room unpleasant. Going outside or even sitting in the lobby was often unpleasant of the mosquitoes were numerous and a major distraction. Signs are posted at the beach say[... read more]ing that reserving lounge chairs was not permitted but this was not enforced so trying to find a place to sit was very challenging. The staff overall was not responsive or helpful when seeking answers to questions or assistance. This will be our only visit to this vacation destination.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Beautiful family vaca!
Overall the resort was exactly what we were looking for in a Cuban destination. The grounds were not quite mature yet but all the same... stunning. The view from the main lobby was breathtaking. The chairs and loungers on the other hand were not very comfortable and the cushions were stained. The rooms were kept very clean. We did have quite an issue with our shower leaking out on to the bathroom floor.
I would have liked more than 1 bottle of water in our room for a family of 4... We love wat[... read more]er!
Staff for the most part were amazing. We did not have great service at all in the lobby. Quite a rude bunch in there at times..
Nightly entertainment kept us entertained!
The biggest quelm I had was the breakfast buffet opened at 630 and closed at 10. I'm on vacation!! We don't want to wake up early to eat. We found every morning we were rushing there before it closed. We only had 2 a la carte's and both were mediocre.
The beach was spectacular and the boys at the beach bar kept us entertained. Best 2 guys there! There was lots of seeweed but it was windy so... Obviously..
Next time I will pack bug repellent if traveling again in April. Got lots of bites.
But come on... Who's complaining. Its Cuba!!!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Below Average
The staff is five star, the hotel is negative 3; thus, the generous 2 star rating. Rooms were in really rough shape, we saw 30 plus rooms in our group plus our own. Sheets and towels in terrible condition, not very clean and some horrendous stains. Fortunately, we were forewarned and brought a suitcase with our own brand new, pre-washed linens (sheets, duvet, two sets of towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies; including rubber gloves, wet and dry swiffers.) Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Hopeless Resort
We visited this resort for one week in late April 2019 for a destination wedding for my nephew.
Rooms: The accommodation was rudimentary with sloppy painting, caulking etc. Walls and ceiling had many squashed mosquitoes on them. The hot water did not work for 3 /7 days, bath tub drained very slowly (likely due to sand in the pipes as there was no place near the beach to wash sand from your feet). Other members in our group had toilets that did not work or they also had no hot water for 1-2[... read more] days. There is a swamp behind the resort which is likely the source of the mosquitoes. We were all covered in mosquito bites by the end of the week. The grounds are well manicured and the gardeners are very friendly and often will pick flowers for you or make cute flowers, hats or grass hoppers out of palm fronds. The walk ways are very poorly lit at night, I would advise anyone to make sure they know how to work the flashlight feature on their phone. There are umbrellas in the rooms but the front desk does not loan umbrellas to you if it is raining when you wish to leave the lobby area which I found annoying.
Food- there are several restaurants on site but these must be booked well ahead and they have very limited numbers of reservations. All restaurants we booked at were only 30-40% capacity with many empty tables. Either they do not have the staff to run a fully booked restaurant or they are not interested in the business. One restaurant made us break up our group of eight into two tables of four. There was only about 1/3 of the restaurant occupied and they could easily have put two or even three small tables together without impeding the circulation in the room but they would not even consider this. I found these type of ridiculous service rules infuriating. The food at every restaurant we ate at was mediocre, no "wow" factor. The cafeteria provides meals for breakfast, lunch and most dinners (as there are so few reservations available in the restaurants). The room is stuffy, dark, smokey at times (from grills working) and noisy. Generally the food is mediocre and repetitious however some of the grilled foods prepared for you while you wait in long lines were hot and tastey. It was not unusual for them to run out of things like bread which may not be back on the menu for 2-3 days. In the 24 h snack bar I ordered a pork sandwich which arrived with no bun as they ran out and the pork was very dried out and gristley. My husbands hot dog was served as a weiner on a plate for the same reason (no buns left), the service was incredibly slow as there main focus is serving alcohol.
Beach- Beautiful view and lovely beach with beautiful sand and gentle waves. The palm frond umbrellas on the beach are in good shape and offer good shade. There are an abundance of beach chairs which are reasonably comfortable. There was a snack bar close to the beach to get drinks and some grilled food which was tastey and convenient.
Outings:
Some of our group did a day trip on a catamaran which included lunch and snorkelling and they really enjoyed this. I and my husband did a bus trip to the cities of Moron and Ciego del Rey. It included a brief visit to an alligator sanctuary which was interesting, a visit to a freshwater lake for a motor boat ride which was a nice break from the bus but not terribly interesting. We were unable to visit the sugar can processing plant for reasons that were not clear. Driving across the island and visiting the town gives you an idea of how most Cubans live. There are many historic old buildings which sadly are in terrible condition as there is no money to repair them. The high light of this trip was visiting a small local metal work shop where they made small sculpture, jewellery etc from recycled metals eg old cutlery. The guide on this trip (Marciano) was very knowledgable and interesting and I would consider him the highlight of that outing.
Check out day was horrible as checkout is at noon and our flight home was at 10:30 PM with the bus picking us up at 19:30. It was a very hot day with no air conditioned room to wait in so we had to camp out in the lobby. Some of our group extended their check out to 16:00 (the latest possible for $11 pesos/hour) so elderly guests could rest.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful Resort!
Melia Jardines del Rey is a large well kept resort. The rooms are beautiful and well maintained by the housekeeping staff. Each day you were provided with a fresh bottle of water, soft drinks and beers. Our room was located in bunglow 18 located close to the beach. The beach is spectacular, you can walk on white powdered sand which stretches along the Caribbean sea for quite a distance. There is plenty of beach chairs and coverage from the sun. The temperatures ranged from 31 to 36 degrees [... read more]celsius everyday. A very good beach bar with fast efficient service. There is a buffet luncheon available at the beach restaurant. Upon arrival at the resort we were taken to a room located off the main lobby where we were greeted with a welcome cocktail, we were given our bracelets for our all inclusive vacation, told what was open in the resort for food, our passports were taken and scanned and brought back within 5 minutes. They arranged for our money to be exchanged. Very fast and efficient service. Then we were taken with our luggage to our rooms by staff members driving a golf cart.
The only three negative comments about this resort is the customer service needs to improve in the snack bar located in section 17 of the resort. in the al carte restaurant Don Perrone (italian) section need more wait staff waited quite along time for service and food. Waited for 45 minutes for french fries and hot dogs while everyone was served and left. We never received our proper orders. The food in the buffet area needs to be hotter, most times cold by the time you seat yourself to eat your meal. There was definitely a good variety of food being served. Booking spa services through the Sunwing rep ensure you have the right package before leaving their area. I have been coming to Cuba since 1986 and know what to expect with regards to food, resort and service. I come for the culture, people, safety and the great weather! The Spanish government has recently come into this resort and provided new management. I have stayed at several Melia resorts in the past and love the quality they provided! Overall my daughter and I had a great vacation! We are already planning our trip for next year!

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort with exceptional staff!
As soon as we pulled up in the bus we thought this resort was absolutely beautiful. The staff have exceptional customer service. The food at first seemed amazing. The snack bar has very good food as well as the buffet. We didn't really like the beach bars food as it seemed like yesterdays left-overs. We tried two a la carts and they were decent. It was a nice change from the buffet as we noticed the buffet lacked variety. It was the same food with only a bit of change. I seemed to stick [... read more]with eggs and toast in the mornings and pasta or pizza at night. They did have some spices and different dips . They also had ketchup at the beginning of our visit and then seemed to disappear at the end.
I stuck with mostly plain things anyways as when I would try anything different my stomach would get upset.
The customer service is a 5 plus
The blonde young lady at the lobby bar (have forgotten her name )was 5 plus and wonderful service always smiling
The snack bars bartender and server Jose Ramon was 5 plus
The entertainment was always amazing and a 5 plus.
The resort was beautiful and the pools absolutely stunning 5 plus
The maid we had Yanelis was great 5 star
The beach to the left was beautiful , you just have to walk a bit farther so theres no seaweed would say 4 plus
The food I would say a 4 star for Cuba ( first time , but with speaking with others they said more like a 3 )
we overall say this is a 4 plus resort and if they stepped up the food variety would be a 5 for us!
