Muthu Playa Varadero: Playa De Oro's new name, same low quality.
This resort was called Mercure and Playa De Oro before, but is now called MGM Muthu Playa Varadero. I stayed there 8 or 9 years ago, and the low quality just went down. Poor food, busy and loud lobby, old and decrepid rooms with mold around the A/C vents. This resort is barely a 3*. Buyer be warned!
Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Very nice resort
Very well looked after, very clean, except for the beach was covered in seaweed. The people were very friendly and accommodating for the most part except at check in, took 2 hours for them to check us in. They weren't organized at first. The shows were good, restaurants were excellent. Got a private tour to Havana which was awesome. Had a very nice time. They were short on food though. The only other problem was no hot water for the first 5 days.
Club Kawama: Fun in the Sun!
I was at Club Kawama Feb. 12 - 19. I had read many reviews before booking the trip so I went in with eyes wide open. I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, the resort is dated and yes the food is what I understand to be typical Cuban cuisine. The staff is great! The beach is incredible! My room was clean! I met many, many people who were all having a blast! I would definitely return. I miss it already.
Melia Las Americas: Cuba 2020
Loved the beaches, the resort and Varadero in general. excellent staff, food was decent...very scenic. live music was amazing and throughout the day. activities: beach volleyball a highlight main pool and swim up bar closed for maintenance beds - not too comfortable - only complaint - but most of the time spent at the beach - so not a big concern
Playa Vista Azul: Vista Azul - unfortunately we got sick
Lobby pool area was excellent. People are very nice. Food was okay. Trying to be reasonable as this is Cuba. Unfortunately out of 4 people three of us ended up with what appeared to be food poisoning. It was hard to see my son vomit on and off for 12 hours. My wife got sick twice and I did once. Hotel grounds were well kept. Hygiene in the Buffett restaurant and service is an issue. You have to wait to get someone to give you cutlery and coffee for quite a while. Tables are not prope [... read more]
Melia Internacional: Location and value are great!
Melia overall was a great experience. It has an amazing beach with a ton of chairs. The pool was decent but 2 of the 4 days there was a strong sewage like smell across the pool which made it next to impossible to be in. The food wasn't as bad as what I've heard other resorts in Cuba can be. The BBQ spot on the right side of the resort has great fresh meats. The resort is brand new and you can tell that they have really tried to go "modern" I would be interested to see if they can keep up [... read more]
Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: The best staff and managers.
The staff are the best at the Iberostar Playa Alameda just 10 kms from Varadero . The food was great at the buffet, Italian and Romantico. Our room was keep very clean and tidy everyday by some amazing housekeeping staff. Like all hotels there are always a few things that need to be fixed but these were looked after by repair workers in an "island time" fashion. The work was done and everything was in running order again. The beach is beautiful, clean and easy to walk into and out of. Say [... read more]
Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Resort gone down hill
As my husband and I have stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and found this hotel a great place to stay, we found this hotel has extremely gone down hill. There has been many changes such as less bars, no more water fall as shown in pics and very poor service in buffet eg: many times had to search for a worker asking for water or cutlery. When it came to exchange our beach towel they had no clean ones. We and everyone we spoke to had their same beach towels for the whole week. I had to complain to [... read more]
Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great time!
The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Rooms are older and dated. Food was great but inconsistent. Only Red wine for 1 day of the trip which was disappointing but that's how it is in Cuba. Great snorkeling from the beach was awesome.
Barcelo Solymar: terrible bathrooms
I think the hotel has potential, but the bathroom is falling apart. It would be nice a little more entertainment at the beach was no wine, this was a huge turn-off. no towels in the bathroom. no too many choices in the restaurants
Melia Varadero: Would recommend
The hotel was maintained beautifully, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and while Cuba is not known for their food I found this much better than my other trips. Also the beach is incredible.
Blau Varadero: Would recommend!
I had originally stayed at the Blau Varadero 10 years ago. Since then we have visited Cuba twice and stayed at the Barcelona Solymar (pre renovation) and Memories. After our last 2 trips we swore we would not visit Cuba again due to the last two resort experiences. We visited last week on university spring break, 2 moms and daughters (they chose the destination). The Blau was great! The staff were outstanding, facilities exceeded expectations and service was exceptional. Food in Cuba is marginal [... read more]
Memories Jibacoa: Sun Sun SUN
We went week of Feb 13th to MJ .was amazing to wake up every morning seculed within the mountainous vegitation along the palm trees and awesome beach. Coral reefs and amazing snorkling made our week plus the staff in every way went above and beyond to cater to our every need . Rooms were clean and well maintained during our stay. No complaints only that we had to leave;(
Barcelo Solymar: Nice resort
The resort was good all around Food was a lot better in the à la carte then buffet but the buffet offered lots of different options. Room was clean. Resort was cleaned every morning. Always staff to help.excursions where we’ll planed and the staff on excursions where very professional.
Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Great resort
We found the sanctuary part of the resort very nice,Service was excellent and the grounds, pool and beach area were great. The only issue was a shortage of staples like potatoes, mushrooms and even beer and cola on occasion the butler service was a definite bonus and we were delayed both ways this was indeed frustrating not sure we will use this carrier next trip . We however enjoyed our vacation and are happy with Trip Central
Melia Las Americas: Amazing Adults Only Resort
Amazing adults only resort. Even though they were completely full didn’t feel like it. Always could find a lounger at the beach. Food was great. Always could find something we enjoyed. We had an amazing corner suite with ocean view. The lobby bar was the best place for drinks. The beach was beautiful!!
Roc Barlovento: Very good value for the miney
The beach was incomparable. The staff very good on the whole. The rooms were adequate. Food was good. Entertainment very good. They did run out of wine and rose was the only wine available , so that was disappointing as we don’t drink rum!
Paradisus Varadero: Worse resort/vacation ever
Paradisus Varadero: The worst vacation in 30 years. The resort is sub standard, in every way. The rooms look super cheap, terrible workmanship, etc, etc. Service is way below average. The workers (most, not all) look completely disinterested. Food is sub par, at best. No, it gets worse. There was a theft of my daughter's expensive cosmetics bag. We turned the room up-side down. Nothing. It took approx. 1 hour to complete an official security report. The next day, we leave our room at 9 [... read more]
Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Average resort
Great beach, clean grounds, but slow and dirty elevators. Upgrade to premium not really worth it. Staff and cleaners did their best. Great reception and check in service. Buffet restaurant always out of plates. Don't expect potatoes on the menu.
Occidental Arenas Blancas: Okay resort.
Occidental was a decent resort, somewhat welcoming but rooms lack comfort. Bed very uncomfortable and the room is still very humid despite air conditioned. Beaches are beautiful and drinks are okay. Food was hit and miss but we never went hungry. Check in was 4pm despite website stating it was 3pm. Some workers were very pleasant and others not so much, or very helpful. Snorkeling off the resort was okay, however those spending extra money for photos received extra attention. Therefore be prepar [... read more]
