Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Made memories but most disappointing due to the resort
I spent a decent amount of money to go on this trip and I did not get my moneys worth.
Would NOT recommend to: Non-smokers, People with allergies, people with epilepsy, ablutomaniacs (clean freaks),
people with entomophobia (fear of insects), and anyone who is wanting a higher than a sub-par vacation
Would recommend: Smokers, people who are fine with a sub-par vacation
Pros:
• Beaches are beautiful
• Gardens are well maintained
• Rooms are spacious (Junior Suite)
• Staff a[... read more]re friendly
• Omelette guy is a pro (would recommend omelette guy with the red “Kiss the Chef†hat)
• Food is plentiful (would recommend the omelette and lamb)
• Micheal Jackson theatre event was very well done (Micheal Jackson didn't pass away, he just went to Cuba)
Cons:
• Pool bar closes way too early
• Rooms are not cleaned regularly
• They messed up our reservations
• Giant beetles were found in our room at night (8 beetles in my room, 15 in my friends, the patio doors were closed, the beetles were double the size of my thumb)
• Food is sub-par (avoid the cheese and pizza)
• They don’t clean their dishes when they finish cooking a meal in front of you (frying pans)
• People with allergies beware (make sure to let staff know but I personally wouldn’t trust it)
• People with epilepsy beware (during theatre events they do not give epilepsy warnings and the screen behind the dancers flashed in rapid succession for over 2 minutes)
• Theatre events were falsely advertised and need to be updated
• People smoke in the lobby and within 5 feet of their children (no non smoking areas)
• Loud unruly events when and where people are trying to get food (buffet area)
• Alcohol is poured to be half of your cup (can be a pro for some people)
• No variety of alcoholic drinks
• For 3 days they did not have: Mojitos, Bloody Marys, Ketchup and more
• One of the two 24 hour bar was closed for over a day (not the sports bar, the lobby bar was closed due to a flood of water bar tenders were walking on wooden boards before it was closed)
• Staff look and act like they’d rather be anywhere but there (I found this mostly with the clerks at the front desk, and female bar tenders)
• Rooms look like they need a good renovation
• Not enough staff to help with cooked food (lines are long to get decent food)
• Could not use a gift card that was meant for excursions
• Washrooms are disgusting (went back multiple times to see if they were cleaned/condition improved: they weren’t)
• Sports bar smells like urine (turns out a pipe burst, but they didn’t close the bar to fix it)
Advice to the Manager:
• Clean your washrooms! All of them are in terrible condition. Either make sure your staff is cleaning them, give them better cleaning products, and/or get them cleaned more regularly.
• Teach your bar tenders more alcoholic drink recipes and the proper amount of alcohol needed in the drinks they make.
• Close the Sports Bar and get the pipe fixed. No one wants to drink or be in a place that smells like urine.
• Have a non smoking area.
• Have the events at the theatre not in the buffet at 5:00pm.
• Update the theatre event wall. It is falsely advertised and needs an update.
• Have an epilepsy warning during an event with the screen flashing like that.
• Fumigate the room a day before people arrive. No one wants their room fumigated on their vacation, let alone dealing with giant beetles in their room.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Would not return
Rooms were clean, the rest of the resort was not - yellowish-brown ‘gunk’ on the walls of the pool, I assume from people drinking at the pool bar and clearly urinating all day (it’s not humanly possible to hold your bladder drinking all day). Plates were left around the pool area for multiple days.
No towels - luckily we read previous reviews and brought our own. A lot of mosquitoes. Half the resort was shutting down due to “low-season†which none of the guests I spoke with were to[... read more]ld about, nor were we (even upon arrival).
Booked 3 à la cartes: ‘Tex Mex’, ‘Italian’, and ‘Seafood’, but ended up with ‘Tex Mex’, ‘Meditteranean’, and ‘Meditteranean’, as upon arrival to the ‘Seafood’ we were told “they did not have a ‘Seafood’ restaurant at the resort†(didn’t receive an explanation about the ‘Italian’).
Did not get water the first couple of days. We lucked out (I think with being close to the lobby) and did not have any issues with our toilet, but many guests we met could not flush theirs.
One group we met could not get toilet paper in their room for multiple days, and when they asked the desk they were told they should have some when they go back and if not to call ‘5’. They returned to their room shortly after to no toilet paper, and called ‘5’ four times to no avail.
I witnessed 2 people slice their feet open on broken tiles in the pool. One of them was given stitches, antibiotics and a $200 bill, which he had to front(even though they did not have any indication of broken tiles even after the first incident).
The shows were really well done and had the mosquitoes not been so bad I would have attended every one.
Food was good, but the options were limited some days (i.e. no bread products at breakfast some days) and options also depended on which server you asked (i.e. one employee said they did not have butter, and another overheard and walked up after with butter). Also options became more limited after the ‘shut-down’ began!
‘Shut down’ also resulted in minimal staff available (the pool cleaner must’ve been laid off!).
Beach was beautiful!!
I would not return.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Not impressed!
Except for the great beach, everything else about this resort is not. Lack of food, poor sevice, dirty restrooms and facilities, broken crumbling tiles around the pools, horrible smell from stagnant man made pond infested by mosquitoes. Never left a bad review before but after a week of feeling hungry, frustrated and having mosquitoe bites all over our bodies we couldn't wait to come home!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: FIRST TRIP TO CUBA
Here is my honest review of this resort.
I have traveled many places and many countries.
Beach: The beach itself was marvelous, beautiful sand well kept, my only knock is that it is about a 10 min walk from the main pools to the beach through mangroves along a boardwalk. Plenty of palapas but not enough for the entire resort. You have to get down there early to get one.
Pools: Best thing about the resort was the pools, three large pools with one as a swim up bar & infinity edge to the oce[... read more]an view. Very nicely kept pools, very clean.
Room: The rooms were fine, being that the hotel was only a few years old not bad. Had issues with shower leaking out onto the floor and through the wall but not life threatening. Overall fine rooms.
Room maids: First day or two was great full towels and room & sheets cleaned, after that & a $10 CUC tip, could not get 3 towels, barely got one towel & 2 or 3 hand towels.
Favorite line from staff was sorry , tomorrow.
Front desk staff: Very attentative always polite, cashier always available for exchanging Canadian money. Sometimes they did not have small change.(I think on purpose for larger tips).
Bus ride to this resort is advertised as 20 minutes but it was 45 minutes.
Roads are horrible.
Bar staff: Overworked, had to wait too long for drinks as they did not have enough staff.
Drinks were very bland most of the time. Could not even get a good pina colada(very watery). They Only had two drinks of the day in 7 days.Ron Punch & Pina Colada.
Take the hop off & hop on bus to Pillar beach it is a very nice beach but just building restaurant so not much there.
Buffet: Terrible , the layout was terrible cramming everyone into the same area. Had to wait 30 min for a pizza, 20 min for pasta & about 30 min for stir fry.
Saw lettuce one time in a week. Not much salad stuff at all. Beets, carrots, corn, olives.
Typical buffet, same food and usually cold. Do not go for the food.
Specialty restaurants: Book as soon as you arrive, they will still not have enough room. Could only book two restaurants for a week. Italian was awesome great pizza and other pasta dishes were great. International was good food but the wait was at least 45 min for main courses & the International is down by entrance boardwalk to the beach near mangroves and the bugs at dinner were really bad.
Overall impression was a 3 star resort not 5 star as advertised. You could after a few days understand a few things they do for cost savings. ie: No reservations at specialty restaurants so you have to go to buffet(cheaper for them). Beach Towels at the pool were impossible to get, once you got two if you could, you could not get clean ones the entire week. You had to keep using them.
Said they ran out of glasses and used plastic cups.
Coffee's ,expresso & capaccino were good.(I am not a coffee person).
Very surprised of this resort being that it was an MGM branded hotel.
My biggest complaint was the lack of english understanding staff, they usually did not have a clue what you were saying to them. Very difficult to converse.
Finally I would say this resort is a solid 3 star, we only paid $1195/pp Canadian for a week so my view is you get what you pay for , and I think we did get what we paid for.
My comments above are not complaints they are information for future traveller to make decisions with.
Again we enjoyed the week based on the price we paid.
That said I personally would not return to this resort.
hope this helps.

Hotel Playa Coco: Dream Engagement Trip
Hotel Playa Coco was beautiful and the employees were so friendly, kind and personable - they really made us feel at home while we were there.
The beach was so gorgeous and is definitely the crown jewel of the resort with soft sandbars and very few rocks/coral in a concentrated area off to the left side of the beach. While rocks/coral might not sound great, they were actually really awesome when the tide went out and revealed all the hermit crabs, clams and prawns living beneath the water (also[... read more] made for great shell hunting)! There is also a small coral patch deeper into the water that is perfect for snorkeling - you won’t be disappointed if you can’t afford an excursion when you have a beach that has so much to offer!
Besides the beach, the drinks were plentiful and delicious with a lot of variety - there are many bars around the resort with different atmospheres.
A common complaint when visiting Cuba is in regards to the food but Hotel Playa Coco had great food with good selection (only complaint was no french fries but definitely wasn’t a deal breaker). The sunsets were gorgeous and my boyfriend proposed to me at this resort!! We had a lot of fun drinking and adventuring but keep in mind that this is a family resort so there are children around and no disco for dancing; however, they do have a bus service every night to bring people to the local disco at Flamingo Square and they have fantastic live entertainment (dancers) every night.
I love Cuba, it feels like the Canada of the Caribbean. I could write so much more about how fun, relaxing and awesome our experience at Hotel Playa Coco was but I think you should go and check it out yourself on your next vacation!

We stayed for 1 week and had a great time! If hot is what you're looking for you've found it. Staff are great, helpful and friendly.
If I had a complaint it would be the mosquitos! They should put up zappers or something.... I dunno what but seriously bad mosquitos!
Otherwise loved it! We'll be back ðŸ‘😊

Melia Jardines del Rey: A little disappointed
Our first impression was not great. We arrived at the hotel and got moved to a room, where a young man who did not speak English very well tried to explain to us why we were there and give us some important information. They asked for our passports which they then took and proceeded out the door, a few followed them of course as we were not use to letting our passports out of our sight. We did get booked in and baggage was placed into each of our rooms. A few of us were hungry so went looking fo[... read more]r the 24 hour snack bar, it was 9 p.m. however the people working at the snack bar where not prepared to have guests arrive. They ignored us when we first went in...so we left thinking that we were in the wrong place. We did go back when we were told by other guests that yes that was the place, however they had also been ignored in the past. We then find out that there were only a couple of items that you could get...one of the things they were serving up was a raw cold hot dog on a heated hamburger bun, which of course I didn't eat. I found the staff not your friendly "Cuban people" that I was use to when I visited Varedaro in the past. This was our first visit to Cayo Coco. We did give that snack bar another try on the second day, only to be served up a chicken sandwich which basically had three small pieces of chicken the size of my house key with peas carrots and maybe green beans...which of course I didn't eat. So enough about the food as we all know that you do NOT go to Cuba for the food. The weather was great and the beach was beautiful so on most days you could ignore the poor service, walking the unlit pathways at night, air in the water lines which sometimes made it a little hard to wash your hands (this was in the hotel rooms), getting your beach towels after the 5th day (this was a common occurrence as we spoke to a number of people/ the hotel was not at capacity so I would worry if you would ever get a towel if it was at capacity) I am not sure who the tall white guy was that walked around the buffet but my guess would be supervisor or manager. He walked around with a very sad/mad look on his face, not sure if he spoke English as he never spoke to us as we walked by and I never saw him speak to any of the staff. I almost felt like he set the mood for all the staff in the buffet...which wasn't a good thing. The hotel was clean and the little ladies that cleaned up the public bathrooms seemed to really work hard. If I ever go back to Cayo Coco I would not likely return to this hotel unless it makes the changes necessary to make it a welcoming resort..

Hotel Playa Coco: Great spot but needs work
Our
Our first room had a leaky toilet faucet requiring us to place bath towels on the floor to make it safe to walk on. Took two days to get moved to another building, which was dry, but A/C not as good. All buildings need cosmetic work, and many need significant improvements. Bars ran out of some spirits, and no draft beer after day two. Staff as always were excellent.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Not good resort to stay
Rooms are smelly and outdated and the mold is everywhere. Toilets are dirty. Towels are placed just above the toilet. We had a superior room with an ocean view, and bedding was so old and ripped off with stains on it. I couldn't believe what we got for a 4 and a half star resort. This is not our first time in Cuba. We were 5 times before in Cuba and we were shocked what we got. We switched the room but it was even worse. The whole resort needs a big renovation. The beach is beautiful, but all b[... read more]eaches in that area are beautiful as well. We had to contact our Sunwing agent to help us to change our resort in order to stay 14 days in Cuba. It cost us an additional 125 doll. So Tony was a good example of an excellent customer service. He arranged our move to Pullman resort and saved our vacation. Thank you Tony so much. You are the best!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Our first time out of Canada!
Arrived at the resort with my 10 yr old daughter for our first trip out of Canada! Overall we had a great vacation!
For starters, the resort is located at a great distance from the airport. Upon arriving at the resorf, we could not check into our room until 4pm and it was approx 11am. No problem. You can leave your luggage at the lobby where they are monitored, you get your bracelet and can venture anywhere on the resort.
Pools were beautiful and well kept. The only annoying situation we enc[... read more]ountered with the pool area were the lounge chairs. By the time we got there at 930-10am they were all taken. The first couple of days i gave a tip to the pool guy for some chairs, after. That i simply asked him for 2 chairs and did not tip and thst did not seem to matter. Service at the bars were hit or miss. One time i sat there for 10 mins with my daughter waiting to be served while the 2 bartenders served anyone else who were arriving. I did say: i guess im invincible, to which i then go service. I believe in tipping for good service, not tip to get good service.
Our room was decent. No major complaints. Of course our patio door didnt lock and was very hard to open or close but being on the 3rd floor that did not bother us. The chair outside on our deck was broken so we could not use it but no big deal we were barely in our room. We were in building 6, water pressure and water temperature was excellent and we were in our room during random times of the day. Our room was cleaned every day and whenever i needed something, i would simply write the cleaning lady a little note and we would return and it would be done!
The buffet was alright. Some days were harder to find food that we enjoyed more than others but my daughter and i do not eat any sea food at all. We stuck to pasta and their fried rice station for supper and were content wkth that.
Beaches are amaxing! This is all i can say. We had no water shoes and did not need them. Beds at the beach are easier to get then at the pool.
The entertainment staff is amazing! They work very hard to make ur stay very enjoyable! Tbe grounds of the resort do seem outdated a bit but this did not bother us. The bathrooms near the pool were closed the entire time we were there as they are being fixed. The towel exhange place, we did not notice if it was open or not. If we needed a change of towel, again we simply asked our maid and we would get a new one.
All and all i would return to this resort. I enjoyed it. And my daughter did also. The weather was amazing, the drinks were cold and the tunes were good!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Quaint resort
When booking this resort, I did so based on all the amazing reviews I had read. I was looking for a smaller resort, with the hopes of great service, rooms, etc.
While some of the staff were fantastic, the vast majority were not friendly in any way. We literally had to fight for one bottle of water a day, which apparently is what each room is Allocated. This is for 4 people....and when I say fight, I mean customer service, front desk, maid etc etc
This is a bare bones resort that is in need of[... read more] repair. If you are looking for five star service, this is not the place to go.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Lots of Great Things .....few opportunities for improvement.
Just got back from a week at the Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo. Very nice resort if you re looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation. there are a lot of great things this resort has going for it, it's only a year old and the facilities are all new and in great condition. The resort doesn't feel huge and it is a short walk to everything. The beach is beautiful and the pools are also very nice it spent little time there. The rooms are large, beds comfy and nicely decorated with rain showers wit[... read more]h lots of hot water and pressure.
The food was fine by Cuba standards however as the time went on more and more things began to run out or disappear in the buffet. I was there Wednesday before Easter to Wednesday after and by Saturday things started to become sparse ie: no chicken at the buffet.
The staff are very friendly and do their best for the guests with what they have available to them. The team that does the shows at night are superb, some of the best dancers I've seen.
That said there are a few things that need to be addressed mainly TOWELS! I was never able to get a beach towel for the entire week I was there, I went first morning and lined up for an hour only to get to the window and be told they were all out. Lined up for an hour the second day and someone came out after an hour to say that there would be no towels for 3-4 days due to laundry breakdown. Finally gave up just started using room towels, I spoke to customer service and asked for a few extra room towels twice and was told for sure they would put extra in the room and in the end that never happened as well and I gave up on that. I get that the laundry is centrally controlled and not done on the resort as apparently this was an issue at all the resorts on the island when chatting with people on excursions. My advice would be to bring your own beach towel - I've been to Cuba 10 times prior to this trip and this was the first time I've seen this happen, I'll always bring my own just in case from now on. Management should put clean beach towel in each room when you check in and leave the lining up for those that want to change their towels more frequently.
The only other thing I would say is that there is no real nightlife which is fine if you're looking for a quiet relaxing vacation. The lobby bar closes at 11 which is strange compared to most resorts where the lobby is the hub.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Average hotel
The resort is nice. It is smaller so most rooms are close to everything. The Lobby is nice and open. The staff are all very friendly. However, the food is VERY repetitive in the buffet each day. The evening shows were quite repetitive also with Cuban dancers 5 out of the 7 nights. The bathroom was odd in that to get a shower you had to step over the tub wall which was at least 2 feet high. The highlight of the trip was the amazing Beach....absolutely beautiful, shallow water which was cryst[... read more]al clear.
