We spent 2 weeks at the Melia Cayo Coco from 6th Jan to 20th Jan and had a fabulous vacation,. We flew from Hamilton airport with Air Transat arriving at MCC at 10p.m. While checking in we could hear the 4 Tenors singing. After a quick check-in we enjoyed a glass of champagne and had a dance before taking the shuttle to our lovely ocean view room on the second floor. We had a rocking chair and table in the room and dresser with a chair. Lots of closet space and hangers and a big bath tub which I[... read more] really enjoyed. We would like to thank our maid Maritzer for keeping our room spotless and providing us with fresh towels every day and also with tissues as we came down with a cold a few days after arriving. Fortunately the hot sun and relaxing ambiance of MCC helped us recover quickly.
We enjoyed meals at all the Al a carte restaurants and the food was hot and delicious. Service was fast and efficient and always with a smile. All the staff throughout the resort were pleasant, fast and efficient. There was a wide variety of food in the buffet, from fresh fish to pasta to pizza. Something for everyone. Cuban ice cream is so good and we really enjoyed the pastries and merengue for desert. The Spanish wines served with meals was excellent, my preference being the white wine but the red was also good.
Our very special thanks go to Yunismy from Customer Service who arranged for us to have breakfast in our room and a special dinner for our Anniversary in the Gazebo above the pool It was a very romantic and magical evening, something we will never forget. Throughout our stay we would see her and she always checked to make sure that everything was O.K. and would ask if there was anything she could do for us.
We met the new General Manager Bernard Meyer at a reception to meet the hotel staff. He is a very hard working man and seemed to be everywhere checking that everything was going well. He sat next to us at dinner in the buffet one evening and we enjoyed chatting to him. All the staff spoke highly of him and he is doing a terrific job as the hotel is running very smoothly.
I must mention the maids that clean around the hotel in the public spaces. They do a good job and the public washrooms are always spotless and often looked quite pretty as they arranged flowers around the sinks. The gardeners are another asset to the resort and keep the grounds looking pretty and the flowering hedges well trimmed.
The evening entertainment was top notch and we really enjoyed the dance Troup and the water ballet. The Cuban band, rock band and all the other bands had us up dancing as the did the dance Troup. It was lovely to see Meite from Activities in the evenings as she would get my husband up to dance and he would joke it made him young. The Activities staff were busy during the day with bingo, aqua fit and other games to keep guests happy and occupied if they wished to join in.
The beach was cleaned daily and always spotless and the ocean was warm once you were in. There was a beach bar and beach restaurant which at night became the Cuban restaurant. At lunch time they served hamburgers topped with Ham and a fried egg and ice cream for desert...Delicious !!
We did enjoy the king size sunbeds around the pool, hubby could nap and I could read by book in comfort. Everyone seemed to be having fun at the Foam pool party which we watched from the snack bar. They serve pizza, hamburgers, French fires and other food and is open 24 hours. The Lobby bar is also open 24 hours and has a good selection of drinks of high quality. Also they make the most delicious Spanish coffee and cappuccinos.
Have I forgotten anything, probably and this review is rather long but my advice to anyone reading this, is to go and see for yourself that Melia Cayo Coco is a wonderful resort to spend your vacation. You will be well taken care of and have a terrific time.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: The Best Luxury Resort in Cuba
We have returned to this resort many times because it fits the bill for what we expect and want in a vacation resort. The grounds are impeccable and naturally beautiful. The hotel rooms are spacious and kept immaculately clean. The food offered at all the a la carte restaurants is excellent. They prepare special menu options for me because I am a vegetarian. The service is above first class. All the staff are courteous and go out of their way to make our vacation memorable. I always feel safe w[... read more]alking around this resort alone, day or night. It is my piece of paradise.

Melia Marina Varadero: Terrible
Do not upgrade to the level. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.
On top of that we were accused of being thieves with the threat of security being called because of a missing towel...oh not just any towel though... a yellow towel!
Once they called security, security had apparently found one and it was met with a "oh okay, nevermind"
Everything is a cash grab...as to be expected however they will blantantly lie to sell you on the excusions and pander you every step of the way for more.
Stay away.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Enjoyed sun and beach
After an absence of a few years since my last visit to Sol Cayo Santa Maria, I found the resort a bit tired and in need of upgrading. Almost all the water features (fountains etc.) on the site were dry and needed upgrading. Of course, I'm sure the resort suffered much damage from Hurricane Irma and maybe this could have been the reason. Nevertheless, the grounds were beautiful and well manicured, the staff was wonderful and friendly but the food was mediocre. The only annoying thing I found were[... read more] the multiple fly bites I suffered while there. The itching became unbearable. This was the worse resort we have ever stayed at! We went for 10 days and the first 5 days were terrible, no water, no power, toilet doesn't work, the shower came off the wall and no beach towels ! For the whole time we had the same towels! The food was terrible as well as the a la carts. We will never return there or recommend this resort to anyone! Everyone was complaining!

Memories Cayo Largo: Ocean View Double room
The hotel in general has everything what you need, unfortunately it is very outdated and needs defenitily a big renovation. The beach in front of the hotel has nice waves where you can body surf, walking a bit further you will meet the nudist beach, which isn't for everybody, but can be visit by your own choice. Walking even more further you will find beaches your dream off, so better pack some water and some sandwiches and spend a wonderful day fare from the crowd.
Everybody at the hotel is v[... read more]ery friendly and accomodating, the all inclusive package makes it easy to walk around without worrying to bring any money with you.
Foodwise there are defenitly some strong improvements recommended, even do I believe the chef tries to do his best, from what he gets delivered.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Had a great time!
The food was alright it was the first resort I have been to that they did not label the food at the buffet. The staff were wonderful. The rooms were clean and maids were great and helpful. The al a carts were good to, my favorite place to eat was the lunch restaurant beside the pool that had the best chicken and fries. Pools were clean.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good week stay at Melia Resort
Our week stay was pretty good. We had an issue with the toilet not working when we arrived into our room but was resolved within 4 hours. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The restaurants were large and offered many options amongst them all. The resort is huge a spread out. Lots of walking or you could take a golf cart ride. The weather was not as cooperative as we would have liked with some very windy and rainy days. The pool was green in many areas and needed to be cleaned. The beach is va[... read more]st and amazing.
Overall we got what we paid for and would recommend the Hotel and area of Cayo Coco to anyone.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Problems
We just returned from melia peninsula yesterday. We arrived late at night of course our plane was delayed so our only options was the snack bar, the staff are very friendly we were the first ones to order so we are waiting for our food and more people arrive and order we are sitting there waiting for our food and everyone received their food before us 5 tables to be exact. I went up to see what the problem was and found out they left it in the oven and burnt it and forgot about us. not impressed[... read more]. That was only the beginning we finally got to our room it was very clean but faced a construction sight and also the bed was so hard you couldnt sleep on it. So we moved to another room and the bed the same thing, they brought in another mattress but it didnt help so I took the cushions from the love seat and put them on the bed. We had to wait a couple of days for another room but only had 2 days left, I didnt feel like packing up my belongings again so I put up for the discomfort. I think I spent most of my time at customer service, they too were very friendly. We also had to shut off the air conditioner because of the sewage smell coming from it, but every time the maid came in she would turn it on the smell was unbearable. My husband caught some kind of virus as well as many other guests. A lot of people coughing. On a good note the ladies at the pool bar were so friendly and fantastic and the ladies at the buffet as well. I really recommend going to the Italian restaurant it was pretty good. If you go to the lobby bar it gets pretty busy when you order your drink order double it takes a while to get another.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Disappointed but made the best of it
Working with Jennifer was great this is our 5th time booking with tripcentral and it has always been a great experience an we will continue. This was our first time flying with sun wing we were a bit skeptic at first cause some reviews we read were not good but it was a good experience for us.
The hotel. when we first arrived our room was not ready understandable check in is at 4pm however later on in the review it will explain why this was frustrating. The grounds were very nice the garde[... read more]ner was the best. The room was clean however we did notice when we checked in that we were given ground level and we then saw a older couple one of them in a wheelchair having to go up stairs to their room which we found not acceptable. It is a very big resort however i think it lacks in management. For the size of the resort the buffet restaurant is very small and some of the people who serve you are not very accomadating a few mornings we waited half an hour for coffee and water and then when asking for certain things we were advised there was no more. The lobby was small in size as well and there again you needed to wait at least half an hour to be served. We traveled with our daughter who's room key would not work 3 different times to get into the room at one point we called and the lady hung up on us then when we called back no one answered. I walked up. To the lobby and the girl at the front desk advised me that it was our faul the key did not work. The events that were put on at night were never on time supposed to start at 9 and started between 930 and 10. They had a outside restaurant that we visited a few times and were always told that half the items on the list they were out of. In certain areas of the resort they ran out of white wine. The restaurants we had to make reservations in were good and most of the staff was pleasant however in major areas there was a language barrier. The beach was pleasant and you always had someone asking you if you needed a chair the pool areas was very busy and you always had to look for a seat or ask for one as people claimed the seats very early in the morning by putting their towels on the chairs All and all we made the best of our vacation however it was not what we had read about we are glad we did not take the room with the hot tub as a lot of people were saying they did not work. Our fridge rarely got filled up we had to call and ask certain days coffee was left but no sugar and vice versa. The day we left we vacated the room at noon and as we were standing waiting for the bell boy the maid was going into our room to clean it that is why i cannot understand why they make people wait until 4pm to check in. Our tour guide on the way back to the airport could not speak English. The airport was great we had no issues at all.We will go back and visit cuba however not at this resort The best thing about this resort was the landscaping and the gardener. I think they need to look into there management and the ways it it run. We ran into a older gentlemen who said he has been going there for 7 years and in the last 2 years it really went downhill they should have a customer reiview card when you leave so you can give them feed back on what they can do to make their resort number one. I know this is not trip central fault however i hope you take this feed back into consideration if any other potential clients ask about this resort.
Thank you

Melia Marina Varadero: Book the Level to upgrade your experience!
We really enjoyed our five night stay as Level guests at Melia Marina. The staff were the best part- very friendly, hardworking and helpful. They were always smiling.
I went to Cuba with low expectations about the food, and came away pleasantly surprised, though I think the experience would have been different if we had not upgraded to the Level. As Level guests, all meals could be eaten at the exclusive Level restaurant, and ordered from a menu. We never had to eat brave the buffet. The menu[... read more] didn't change, but the food was for the most part very good and always beautifully presented. In particular we enjoyed the "coffee with milk", Eggs Benedict, Fish & chips, all fish dishes, and the Latin A la cart was our favourite. Oscar & Juliet booked us immediately for an A la cart each night. The Level restaurant overlooked the Marina, on the open balcony it felt as if we were on a cruise ship in port. We always enjoyed watching the marina activity.
The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. I didn't give it full marks for sleep because some nights the air conditioning was too much! What a funny thing to complain about in a warm country.
The pools were beautiful and clean, and we always found a lounge chair. We spent our days by the pool as the beach was too windy for us, but the beach did look beautiful. The walk to and from the beach was very short across a foot bridge. Those who needed a lift could be driven to the beach by Bosch in the 6 person golf cart.
Entertainment we enjoyed: morning stretching at the beach, poolside games, outdoor chess, and evening bands in the lobby.
Wi-fi was complimentary with our Level room. It was good service in the Level restaurant and hotel lobby, but patchy in our room. If not Level guests, I believe they were charging 1 cuc per hour of Wi-Fi.
Though I really enjoyed my stay, there were two things that could be improved upon. Hot beverage service in the a la carte (aside from the Level) was non-existent, and often menu items were not available. I always felt sorry for the staff who had to tell me "its broken" or "there is no hot water here for tea", etc. The second is a feeling of the place heading towards slow disrepair- I had heard the resort is five years old. All wall mounted objects in our bathroom were loose. One ladies toilet on the pool level actually almost tipped over on me. These two small things reflect on management not the wonderful staff working day in and out serving the guests.
Not knowing Spanish, we struggled a minor amount. Menus and information were written in Spanish, English and French. The staff tried their best to communicate with us, and some of them were multilingual - koodos to them!!

Melia Marina Varadero: Great stay!
Loved the lobby bar..great cappuccinos, entertainment and view of the marina. Staff were very friendly, beautiful beach. Pool was a little chilly. Not too crowded at this resort but not too quiet. Highly recommend seeing Havana, about 2 hour drive, either bus or car rental. Food was edible but not the best. They really need some hot sauce!!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Resort ☆☆☆☆
The Resort is big & well kept. Public washrooms have a standby maid in each one cleaning regularly.
Service at all the bars is quick & everyone so friendly. Washrooms in rooms could use better plumbing. BeachTowel service could improve, although people tend to abuse. I kept same towels all week, they go on beach chairs, how dirty can they get!!! I dried them on balcony.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Not what you expect for a 5 star resort
The resort was not what we expected for a 5 star hotel. I know it’s Cuba but I have stayed at 4 star resorts in Cuba that were better. The beach was nice the resort itself was nice. Unfortunately the service and food were both bad. The sunwing rep. Misinformed us on an excursion. We were disappointed.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Great resort!
The food was what you'd expect for Cuba...I stuck with fruit, cheese and bread and of course delicious omelets, fries and amazing coffees! Oh ya...crispy bacon at the pool/snack bar!
The beach is just a small walk away from the pools, down a boardwalk onto a beach that is very big, and has what must be hundreds of chairs and huts!! Even around the pools, we never had to worry about not having a chair! The pool staff were always delivering chairs where needed. The bar staff filled us up ever[... read more]y 10-15 minutes if we wanted lol!! There's the usual pool activities, the staff were all awesome. I also loved that there was a kids pool that was actually off in a quieter area, which would be great for our youngest child (if we were to do a family trip!)
Our favourite a la carte was the Mediterranean, every bit of it was delicious. And the Tex mex was good too! We heard from other people that tried the other a la cartes and they did not enjoy them.
The grounds are well taken care of, and the gardeners and maintenance staff were very polite. The pool was clean, and every morning the workers would vacuum it and clean the decks. Rooms are clearly well used, with dated decor, but they're clean and very spacious! For me, it is important that the bathrooms are sparkling clean, and ours was, every single day! We stayed on the 300 building, and loved that it was an easy walk to the pool. While at the pool we could use the lobby washroom, or walk a few extra steps to our own room. We would definitely go back to this resort...but I would bring more snacks along. Food is not why we go to Cuba, and I think most people understand that.
I should mention that this hotel is advertised as being approx 90mins from the Santa Clara airport...but the transfer takes quite a bit longer than the 90minutes, with loading people, and then stopping for pee breaks, and then also stopping at 5 other hotels to drop people off. We flew from Toronto at 6:15am and got to the resort around 3pm...it made for a long day. Check in was nice and smooth, and our room was ready...so we were able to relax right away.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Paradise on a budget
Stay at Melia Cayo Santa Maria 15 January to 22 January . First of all may I say that We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is the most well laid out resort with every lodging within easy walking distance to the restaurants , lobby and pools. From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were the only guests at the resort. Check in was flawless despite our late arrival from the airport. The bell hop was very friendly and knowledgeable. When I tried to take one of my suitcases upstairs, the b[... read more]ell hop said no, sir, you are on vacation, it's my pleasure to bring your bags. Our room was clean and spacious. The mattress was a little firm but good for Cuba.
Restaurants were decent, buffet offered something for everyone. Out of all the resorts we have been to this buffet offered the most choices. Daniel at the Omelette bar is a great guy and an asset to the resort. The bartenders and pool staff treated us like family. Even the lifeguards were quick to respond when I lost my footing in the ocean. After visiting this resort I find it difficult to book elsewhere as it will be hard to beat this resort.
