This was a nice resort. We went to this resort to relax and basque in the sun. The weather cooperated with us by giving us 7 days of sun. One morning there was a very light mist in the air but it cleared up by lunch time. Temperatures were fine and there was a constant breeze to prevent us from getting hot. The food was alright. It kind of gets tiresome after 7 days having the same food. We had asked for a Oceanview room and that we got. It was a great view of the ocean from room 431 second floo[... read more]r. I would have been very disappointed if I had been on the ground floor. All you would have seen was the bushes. One of the downers of the room was that the patio doors couldn't be locked. I had read about a review very similar to this on tripadvisor before went to the resort and used a similar tactic to secure the door.We had used the ironing board as our patio door lock. The lock looked like it had been pryed off by a past visitor. The staff was very polite and helpful. The beach was awesome.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Not great!
It was alot bigger then expected. So alot of walking. Not much food options (basically ham and cheese everyday). Cleaning of room was not everyday. We used the same bath towels everyday for 7days. Received no beach towel in our room had to use our friends.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Had a great time!!
They even had nachos! Beaches were beautiful with a couple hundred meters of fine white sands and turquoise blue water. Food was much better than expected. Room was large, clean, separate show and tub. Water was hot when needed with good pressure. Staff was nice, with mostly great service. Would recommend.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Sorry to say disappointed..
We went back to Sol as many years ago we had the greatest experience of Cuba here in this resort - we loved everything , the people, the grounds, the vegetation, the food.
Now, we must say with heavy hart that many things have changed.
And it is not only Irma that affected Sol..
I think it is the way the resort is governed. People are working very hard but it is an obvious lack of personnel. The part of the resort that is open to tourists has the most affected vegetation following the hurrica[... read more]ne last September which make no sense from a client perspective. Spanish is a must as there are not many English speakers.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: AVOID THIS RESORT
We were at this resort on March 21 2018 . I travelled with my 72 year old mother, a friend and her 76 year old Aunt . This resort was by far the worst I have ever been to and we travel 3 or more times per year . We book vacations that are $ to $$$$ and we are fully aware we get what we pay for .
Our expectations for this vacation were not high. We wanted sun , sand , a clean resort with edible food .
The first rooms they gave us had broken A/C and ants , so they moved us to rooms 2 which had [... read more]a broken non working toilet and no A/C and ants ,
then to rooms 3 . It was ok but it was not clean and 1 of the rooms had a broken toilet seat which they removed so there was no toilet seat . The curtains ( or blanket ) was nailed to the wall . The patio doors could not be opened . There was cockroaches.
The dining room was filthy, with flies on all of the food . My pasta on the first night was given to me with a dead fly on the top , the chef picked it off and handed me the plate . The silverware had to be checked for dried on food and the glasses for lipstick marks. The service was very poor .
The beach was red flagged so we stayed at the pool . On the first day at the first pool a mother took feces out of a small childs swim suit (No diaper ) and it fell on the walk way . The child stepped in it , the mother washed his feet off in the pool and the feces remained on the walk way for 3 days . So off to Pool 2 we went . That afternoon a guest vomited on the bridge over the pool and into the pool . So there was no swimming for us as we did not see anyone clean the pool while we were there and it had cigarette butts, napkins and plastic cups in it every day . The washroom by the pool had a sink off the wall and the toilets did not flush yet there was no sign .
On day 4 we went to see our travel rep - Thank goodness she was AMAZING !!! She has us and the hotel service manager walk her to the ares we were concerned about . After 4 days the feces and vomit were still there. The manager tried to say someone cleaned the pool and the surrounding areas but it was obvious it wasnt being done .
The rep told us that this resort has a very low booking rate so the open it up to the cubans , it is also due to be closed and renovated .
I am unsure how this resort has any positive reviews . I expect they are generate or solicited by the resort in exchange for remuneration.
I feel this is information that the travel agent should have been aware of .
The excuse for most of the issues was the recent hurricane , but all the damage had been repaired . The issues were all due to neglect .
We were moved to the resort next door which was attached to the SOL and it was 100% better .
Please dont waste your time or money by going to this resort .
PS. Flabia at reception did help us as much as she possibly could and was very helpful and understanding .

Valentin Perla Blanca: Beautiful BUT WITH UNSOLVED PROBLEMS
Beautiful resort - with no maintenance people to fix flooding toilet and hot water problems. As a result we were moved 3 times and ended up with no hot water or towels for the last 2 days. This was a disaster for travelling home. I did not appreciate moving and packing up 3 times. All this eat into my vacation time. The Transit rep was wonderful trying to fix all these problems. Advised after 12 noon at our check out time we could have stayed until 3. Was this late advice to him? Why [... read more]would we want to stay until 3 with no hot water or towels? Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Absolutely Amazing Resort
The resort is beautiful the rooms are beautiful very clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly but communication was a little tough not much English. The food was pretty good also. The pool excellent and the beach just gorgeous. The only thing could use some more variety for entertainment in the evening. All in all excellent will go back definitely

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Disappointed with food service
Great beach. Ok rooms. Good restaurants, except for Italian. Great staff. Great drinks. Beautiful pools. I was so tired of the lineups for omelettes, pizza and donuts. Rooms provided for showers on the last day were flooded. Very windy everyday.
I would return but only if price was less than what we paid this time. A lot of people paid 200.00 dollars per person less than us. I would return to the area and try a different resort.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Weekend away
Beautiful resort. Great weekend away would definitely return.
One major disappointment was customer service. Understandably this is Cuba a Spanish speaking country however not all your tourist speak Spanish. There should be more English/Spanish speaking reps around. Front desk especially should have people that can answer common questions people have.
Check in. This process needs to be streamlined. The hotel should know how many people are coming in via tours ie Sunwing. After a long fligh[... read more]t/bus ride the last thing you need is a long line. Have a separate room available with details/room keys - along with an English speaking rep. this would unclog the congestion in the lobby and make your new visitors feel comfortable.
A la carte restaurants - I love the idea of not limiting guests the number of restaurants during stay but again with the long waits at 5:30. There needs to be a better system than having people cut there day to wait in line for reservations.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Wonderful Vacation once again in Cuba!!
This was our first time to the Playa Cayo Santa Maria and we were not disappointed. Our sixth time to the island but first time here. The rooms were very comfortable. Small bar fridge stocked daily with bottled water and 2 beers and Jillian & Laura of the cleaning staff were 2nd to none! Absolute dolls and attentive to any needs we may have had pertaining to our rooms. A very nice bathroom also with tub and shower.
The beach was breathtaking. Excellent service on the beach also, with regards to[... read more] getting us beverages and even chairs set up for us.
The buffet was OK but we do not go to Cuba for the food, and often ate in the snack bar or the little canteena off of the snack bar. Good burgers, hotdogs, pizza was excellent. There was also the beach hut for drinks and food.
The Lobby Bar was very enjoyable and we sat there daily enjoying our cocktails and listening to the entertainment. At night it was hard to find a spot as it was so popular.
The live entertainment in the theatre was excellent and we attended 4 shows the week we were there and looked forward to each night. A lovely theatre and even it there was rain it was covered with a roof and a bar there also.
The dancers they had entertaining us were certainly very professional and worked hard to put on a very good show.
There was a coffee bar off the lobby bar, a Mojito bar also off of the Lobby Bar and boy both the coffees and mojitos were so good:)
We have very fond memories of this resort and as always feel sad to leave the place that you have come to know as your home for a week. I miss the wonderful Snack Bar staff that worked tirelessly to accommodate us and the beautiful large pool that served the 2 buildings on either side of it. There was never a problem finding a chair and we were amazed to discover that there were 4 of these very exact pools serving the building that surrounded them.
My best friend and myself treated ourselves to a neck/back massage at the Spa on-site and for 28cuc that was a very good deal and a beautiful treatment. It was a lovely spa and we were allowed to come back and use the hot tub any time all of that day. The best essential oils were used and they did a wonderful job.
I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Even families with young children as they had a wonderful Childrens' Village that was entirely enclosed with a colourful fence. And an ice cream parlour too that was busy each and every day.
We had a great time here and I will have fond memories that will last a long time.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Beautiful resort
The hotel in whole was great. The à la carte restaurants were the best we have ever had in Cuba. The snack bar also had great food and we had lunch there every day. The showers had no pressure and didn’t have hot water but that was the only downfall of the hotel.

Beach and pools are amazing. Food is very average. Sometimes under cooked, sometimes under cooked. No variety at all. It was the same food every day for 7 days. À la carte were no better and they didn’t have half of the items on the menu. Service was good and staff was nice.

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Loved our resort Dhawa
Upon our arrival at the resort we were escorted to the reception area where we were welcomed with a refreshing cool drink.
We are thankful to Gilberto for having our requested reservations. It was important for us to be close to the relative that was traveling with us. Our unit was exactly what we were promised it was on third floor close to the beach, pool, main dining areas. The room was very clean overlooking the pool and view of the ocean which we loved.
The beach was great and the service[... read more] was fantastic. I had to get up early to reserve the beach chairs which everyone was doing.
My only complaint was the buffet restaurant. The selection was a little disappointing, would have liked more items for breakfast and dinner. The lines were very long to wait for our food. Would have liked to have more stir fry meals prepared. I asked the main manager at the buffet for fresh baked donuts, croissants, pancakes. Over all the grounds at Dhawa were beautiful. Their cappucinos I looked forward to everyday.
For sure we would return to the resort some time in the near future..:)
We are thankful to our travel agent O'Neil for his professional help.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Terrible Resort
This resort is by far the worst resort I have ever stayed at. I've stayed at many 3 and 3 1/2 star resorts as well as 5 stars and have never experienced anything like this.
The rooms are awful..In total we moved 4 times for various reasons: ants, no working air conditioners, broken toilet seat, no toilet seat, cockroaches, giant spiders, broken safe, patio door wouldn't lock, the rooms were so dirty and mouldy.. the list goes on. I had to share a bed with my 74yr old aunt. The public washrooms[... read more] never had toilet paper or soap and most of the time wouldn't flush. I booked this trip based on the reviews on the trip advisor and the trip central website and I have to say I'm sure they are being edited or put on by the resort.
This is the most unsanitary place I've ever stayed... we witnessed someone vomiting on the bridge over the pool and into the pool, a man helping his grandson pee into the grate at the side of the pool..another person urinating into the bushes behind us, a child pooped his pants it fell out of his shorts and onto the walkway, he slipped in it and his mother washed his feet off in the pool. The pool was full of cigarette buts, plastic cups and straws leaves and other debris..nothing was cleaned up until after we met with our Air Transat representative a few days later. I know this is a 3 1/2 star resort and my expectations were not high but we actually felt unsafe.
We Spent the first 4 days of our short 7 day trip moving rooms and making trips to the front desk to report the problems. We weren't able to go in the ocean because it was red flagged and couldn't go in the pool at all. After we had a conversation with the Air Transat representative she got the guest service manager and we took them on a walk around the resort to show them the problems. I know the rep was surprised at the conditions and had us moved to the sister property next door as soon as she could which wasn't until the following day.
I never been to a resort where most of the guest were Cuban locals and I believe this contributed to the problems. I was told by the rep that they are planning to close this resort and do a major Reno and reopen as a 5 star property. This is why only half of the resort rooms are open and they haven't put any money or effort into restoring it after the hurricane. They put out offers to Cuban families at very low rates to fill the rooms available.
Trip Central and Air Transat should not be recommending this resort at all.

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Lovely Resort
We just came home from a wonderful vacation here. Jordan and Randy at the swim up bar where our favorites, great guys.
The steaks are amazing and shrimp where a great treat.
The beach is beautiful, I have seen complaints about no chairs but all you have to do is ask the guys on duty and they will bring you one. Loved the resort and no compmaints.
