Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana Hammock: Margarittaville Cap Cana

We went to Margarritaville Cap Cana Adult section the end of January 2023. This hotel was very nice and clean. The grounds were immaculate. Food was very good, no complaints there. Even room service was good, only downfall was it takes a little while to get to you, so order ahead of time. Premium alcohol for drinks, staff very friendly . Check in and check out was very smooth. The only downfall about this hotel is the beach. The sand part is nice, the ocean is dirty and rocky. No one dared to go into it. Otherwise a nice clean getaway!

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Terrific Resort

Our room was lovely we had the swim up. The restaurants were great as well and the whole place was super The service and entertainment was great and the booking with our agent was simple and very helpful overall it was a really great experience

Ocean Blue and Sand: Beautiful weather, an ok resort experience

We booked with Sunwing and stayed at this resort in February 2023 for 8 days. We paid for the Privilege upgrade. Overall, we had an ok experience but this resort is at best a 3.5 star. This is NOT a 4 or 5 star experience, regardless of what some reviews indicate. Positive - Layout of resort is nice, easily walkable for those without mobility issues - Pools are nice, grounds are generally well-maintained. Pool closer to beach is louder in the morning but quieter in the afternoon. - Buffet [... read more] and food in general was good, there were a lot of options available at all 3 meals - The cafe (Mike’s) was great for a nicer coffee - Catamaran excursion with Tours Point was the highlight of our trip! - Our resort’s Sunwing rep was extremely helpful and responsive to our questions - Housekeeping was timely and well-done throughout our stay - The lobby bar is beautiful - a fun place to hang out in the evenings and have a drink, play cards, etc. Neutral - Restaurants were ok - we ate dinner at all except Route 66, and enjoyed the Mexican the most. The Privilege breakfast was often not worth the time spent, as we found the service to be incredibly slow (50+ minutes waiting for food). - The room was fine - as we had the Privilege upgrade, our building was closer to the pool/beach and I assume has been more recently upgraded. Air conditioning was great. We received a room on the first floor, facing a service road, with 2 double beds. We requested a change, but they were unable to accommodate our request for the duration of our stay. - Lounge chairs - the towel reservation game is strong here. If you are looking for a spot at the pool or beach, especially with an umbrella, you need to be up at 6am. Easier to just play the game then to try to scrounge up chairs later on. - Entertainment - for those who enjoy this aspect of resorts, the team here is full on, high-energy for most of the day. Not our taste but we saw others enjoying it. This resort is not quiet! We enjoyed the Super Bowl event. Negative - Timeshare Presentation - we were taken to this meeting under the guise of receiving a tour of the resort on our first morning. Ended up in a timeshare presentation and it only ended when we walked out after an hour. Incredibly dishonest and annoying! Word of advice - do not agree to a “welcome breakfast” or anything of the sort, it’s not worth the promise of a free couples massage or your valuable vacation time. You can tour the resort easily enough on your own. - Privilege upgrade - we did not find this service to be worth it. Our Butler was non-existent for the majority of our stay (we never met him, he was only available on WhatsApp) and we ended up making many of our dinner reservations ourselves. We did not receive many of the items listed (bathrobes, etc). The Privilege lounge was ok and we appreciated the clean bathrooms. - Beach - we spent very little time on the beach, aside from actually swimming in the ocean or walking up the beach towards other resorts. Erosion has had a major impact on the beach, and while the resort is doing work to rectify it, it’s not very nice to look at and they have a pump running all day long. There were constantly vendors on and surrounding the beach property, which was a bit off putting. We noticed other resorts nearby did not allow these vendors on their beaches.

Riu Palace Bavaro: Riu Palace Bavaro

Grounds are neatly maintained, shrubs & greenery are well preserved. The hotel structure & decor are outdated, elevators sometimes doesn’t work, common comfort rooms are far from dining areas, beaches & are on disarray, broken lounge chairs are common, beach are not maintained regularly, empty plastic glass, bottles, coconut husks & shells. No one practices CoVid protocol, staff, cooks, servers.

Occidental Caribe: Meh...

Before leaving for our trip, I read the reviews and wondered what we got ourselves into. I thought that everyone has a different opinion so I'll come with an open mind. Issues started when we got there. Tried 7 different swipe cards and none worked so we couldn't leave our room until it got serviced. Had to sit in our room until 2:30 pm the first day until maintenance came ( we called 4 times before someone came). Batteries replaced. Both patio doors could not lock and we were an end unit and [... read more] anyone could have gone through the windows in the hallway and jump right onto our balcony). What everyone said about towels is correct. One towel for 2 of us for showering and NO FACECLOTH'S !! I'm sorry but I wash my face every night but they do not have any. Sheets were not changed for the 8 days that we were there. Used coffee maker in room for coffee in morning and were not given sufficient bottled water to make it. Only 2 bottles of pop put in the fridge and they froze alongside with everything in your fridge. Yes, rooms are very dated (orange couch and wing chairs ??) and both the couch and chairs were very uncomfortable to sit in. I have had past issues with back pain and this furniture did not help the cause. Majority of the staff do not speak English and a lot of them are rude (you say Ola to them and they just walk right by you). Seriously, you need to get up at 6 am to grab a chair at either the beach or the pool. By 7:30 am; all chairs had towels on them and you could not get one. Minimum 2 hour wait to reserve at the a la carte restaurants. A lot of people complained about this. We were fortunate and with being premium, we could go to the premium lounge and book. Buffet is not really edible. 4 slice toasters, only one side worked (could only do 2 slices at a time) so you had to wait. This was for both toasters available. Not enough tables available. If you want a real Mojito or Pina Colada, good luck. These come out of a slushie machine like 7-11. No water sports equipment available. We like kayaking and would of loved to do this on the days that the water was calm. Pros :The beach was beautiful as you could walk for miles and it was just sand. Pools were clean too. Every year we go away and just accept any situations that may arise however, with this place, it seemed like it was one thing after another. Very frustrating when you are on vacation and you are having to deal with issues on a daily basis.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort

It was a beautiful resort. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The food was awesome in the buffet with plenty of selections and the restaurants were even better!! I only wish we could have tried them all but we booked an excursion to Samana (which was great) and returned late for the steak house and had to cancel the Mediterranean because we attended the Superbowl bash which was another great added feature. Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Fun party resort!

This hotel has decent rooms. Bathrooms have smaller areas and no exterior door to close off from the room. Rooms are well maintained. Staff are excellent. From front desk to entertainment. Areas are clean and in good repair. Food is good quality, no lines and no reservations needed. Beach was grated daily. Awesome music and entertainment miring and night.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: Wonderful spot

The resort was wonderful, staff were friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable, and rooms were clean. Only thing was if you wanted a hot shower it was a hit or miss when you would get one. The food was wonderful, I had seen complaints and was worried, but it was wonderful and a great selection.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Wonderful Resort

The hotel is very large but very easy to get around. Clean as can be everywhere. Easy to get your a la carte reservations and the restaurants were excellent. Enjoyed laying by the beach or around the various pool areas. Excellent resort!!

Royalton Splash Punta Cana: Lots of up charges

Resort was great. My only complaint was the frequent attempt to upcharge while there. If you stay at splash you have access to other resort but some restaurants were an additional charge 49$ US per person. We were not aware of this at time of booking as it only said stay at 1play at 2. We were aware before going. There were also people going around talking to kids about activities such as escape room for additional charge. Superbowl party they were trying to charge us for reserve seating  [... read more]then again trying to charge us for premium alcohol. You walk up to bar with all this alcohol displayed and everything you ask for they are trying to charge you. I've never been to an all inclusive where I was constantly being asked to pay for add ons.

Riu Republica: Fun party resort

This place is a party resort, the food and amenities are 4 star not 5. We did have a great time but unfortunately my girlfriend got food poisoning and we both ended up getting COVID-19 after our stay (a real bummer). Also we had 3 days of no hot water, partially working shower head and bugs festering in the coffee machine.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Wonderful resort!!

The hotel and grounds were very clean & spacious. Enjoyed all the different seating areas in the lobby and lounge areas. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beach was clean and beautiful with plenty of lounge chairs to sit in the shade or the sun. Spacious pools with many different areas to choose from for lounging. Food was great. Transportation to and from the resort was seemless.

Breathless Punta Cana Resort: Beautiful resort

The resort is very beautiful, the grounds immaculately kept and clean. I give credit to the incredible staff and their excellent customer service at the restaurants, front desk, serving staff and bars. However, there were some areas that required improvement. We are a couple of seniors and were assigned a room on the 3rd floor, with no elevator. It was a challenge climbing up and down those stairs every day. The housekeeping staff were very inconsistent with their timing on cleaning our  [... read more]room. Some days, they were there in the morning, late afternoon and even at 9:30 at night which was too late. The mini bar in our room was not consistently replenished. Our room was very outdated and the air conditioning was really loud. The jacuzzi on the balcony was very rusted and hardly any water pressure. The tv remote worked inconsistently- we had to call to get new batteries installed and even after then, it still didn't work well. We were in the Xhale club which provided so much better drinks, more quiet and liked the private beach and pool. However, at the large poolside area at the front, there were 2 djs, one at each end of the pool. Both competing with each other as to who played the music loudest which was extremely annoying because you couldn't make out the music was playing-i.e. rap on one end and country music on the other - both blared so loud. If you are the party type and under age40, I would recommend this resort. People were so loud, very drunk - we were woken up several days in a row at 3 am in the morning with loud drunks yelling and screaming at each other as they climbed up the stairs to go to their room. As far as entertainment goes, it was mediocre at best. They need to have more entertainment in the evening, especially at the Xhale club bar. We loved the bar, but there was no music or entertainment there. The restaurants were so-so. Two of the restaurants were never open at all. We enjoyed the French restaurant and the steakhouse. The buffet food was the same every day so we got tired of it.

Occidental Caribe: Deferred Maintenance

This hotel in its prime would have been beautiful. Unfortunately the upkeep on the buildings have not been done and it shows. As for the food reviews - all of what you have read is true. Food is cold, and constantly empty. This is not the hotel for good food!!! Also they don't seem to have a handle on the volume required for the amount of people staying there. The hotel was always running out of dishes, cutlery, tables for patrons [... read more], and when you could find one, it was dirty and you had to try to flag down someone to bus the table for you, and hopefully bring beverages or cutlery. (which, believe me took some effort and time!) Food quality was almost average on it's best day. Don't try the burgers at the pool restaurant - horrendous! A-la-carte? - good luck on getting one, unless you are up and in line on Sunday morning by 6 am...Otherwise you are out of luck! The shows are way too late in the evening (Starting at ten) We did stay up and watch two of them (Circ and Las Vegas show) which were entertaining, but should have been much earlier in the evening for guests to enjoy! The beach is beautiful! Loved walking the stretch daily and the water was amazing as well. It's too bad that the management isn't on top of this, as this is a prime location, and stately looking buildings, it's a shame it's being let go. We would go back to the area, on that beach but not to that hotel again.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Incredible Resort!!!

The hotel grounds and lobby were absolutely beautiful! The food was really good with lots of options. The bartenders were all very sweet and their service was amazing. Our housekeeping lady was always accommodating to our needs and kept our room spotless. Some of the service in the restaurants were poor.

JOIA Bavaro by Iberostar: Beautiful setting but food lacking

Grounds and room beautiful. Unfortunately, 4 of the 5 a la carte restaurants were not great. Only restaurant that was any good was the Surf and Turf. I got food poisoning in the Japanese restaurant. In the buffet I asked for gluten free pasta and it wasn’t so not happy about that!

Ocean El Faro: Nice Resort!

This hotel was very clean. Always taking care of the grounds and the public area. Our rooms were huge and the maid service was good. The food was a bit cold at the buffet. It was hard to book at the restaurants, but the food was excellent. Improvement could be made at the snack bars by the pools, the food was left outside in the heat and not covered. It is a huge resort and their could be more shuttles. The front desk could be more efficient ,we arrived late late at night, 1:30 and they told u [... read more]s on our own to find our room, we were told go straight out the front door if you hit the water you have gone too far. Nice! Our luggage was delivered an hour and half later. Beware when booking trips,we booked through our Air Transat Rep at the hotel, the Catalina Island tour was the worst excursion ever. Do not recommend..... At this resort they were always trying to sell you time shares .(People in white shirts).

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: Excellent resort - lots of fun

Resort was nice and modern, rooms were great, pools were nice and the lagoon to swim was excellent. I have been to many resorts in Punta Cana. A special thanks to Danielito and Johnson from the entertainment team. They provided exceptional services. Johnson is pursuing his studies in mechanical engineering- smart, young talented man and although he has only started on the resort approximately one month ago, it seemed like he was a long term pro. As single women travelling, it was nice to have a dance partner outside in the plaza area. I met great people from all over. Primarily Canadians and Quebec and Americans. I have never laughed so much in my life. So much fun. The room service was excellent. Our cleaning lady on the 3 floor of building 11315 in El Beso did special folding of clothing and paid attention to detail. She went above and beyond basic service. Louis and José who drove the carts around the resort always stopped to pick us up. They brought us exactly where we wanted to go. Like every Caribbean resort there is always a few room issues, and our toilet would often not work. I have never seen such quick plumbing services in any other resort. Of course we left a good tip for these guys, which most people forget about. The room bar was stocked every day to our liking. I never had an issue booking an a la carte restaurant but pushed the reservation button exactly at 7 am on the link. In terms of restaurants- The salmon and the Chateaubriand at the Blue Moon international food restaurant were cooked to perfection- not over cooked. My compliments to the Chef, as I am a picky eater and usually only eat at the best restaurants in the city. I read a lot of negative reviews so I was pleasantly surprised. The Sakura Japanese restaurant (our chef was John) was lots of fun and again the food was not over cooked. The portions were huge, but almost all the people finished their plates. I loved the scallops and salmon, but the chicken and beef were also excellent. The Margarita Mexican food was also good and we sat outside which was very pleasant. The best pool for activities and social bar on the el beso adults only side is the back one furthest from the beach. On the el faro side, social is best at the lazy river bar. The lazy river was great. We bought pool hammocks on Amazon and they were great. They are really compact for the suitcase. Never laughed so much- I even lost my voice- first time ever. The Pez restaurant is the quietest and offered a nice buffet pretty much all day long. Some of the evening meals are a la carte and no reservation required. It was quiet there. The meat was cooked to perfection- juicy and not over cooked as most buffets and snack bars. It is on the beach. My girlfriend was alone and fell on the sidewalk in the afternoon and was seriously injured. A worker picked her up and brought her to the Doctor Lorian Peral at the main reception building. She received exceptional care and went by ambulance to the hospital. Almost a dozen head stitches, three fractures in her hands and a finger, and really bruised up. She was not impressed with the hospital or services. She was back that day stitched up and with a cast. Resort staff provided excellent service- the Doctor provided a follow visit the next day and the cleaning lady was really attentive to her needs.

Occidental Caribe: A great week!

Once we arrived at the hotel, there were a few things missing.....we were supposed to receive a welcome drink and priority check in. Once in our room, there was supposed to be a bottle of rum and a coupon for the casino. We did ask for it the next day at the front desk. The coffee maker in the room didn't work. There was a broken lamp and most of the hydro outlets didn't work. The beds were comfortable. The food was good. The resort overall was pretty clean. The nightly entertainment was good.

Ocean El Faro: Good resort

We booked privilege and well worth the money. The resort is clean, party pool is entertaining, staff is very friendly and helpful. Loved our roof top room. The only complaint is that it is very windy. I’m not a beach person but I do like to walk the beach. Went down a couple of times and felt like we were getting pelted by the sand blowing. Other then that it was a lovely resort.
