Hotel is still working on remodel, but our building 14 was great. Upgraded to sunclubs and were pleased. Sunclub is private adult pool, bar, and beach amazing.
Could definitely use more palapas for shade!!!
Buffet was awesome especially Sunclub Kaliedescope Buffet. Carmen and Anna and Domingo.
Loved the Chopsticks show table, ate there 4 times. Mexican was good and Italian okay.
Staff are fantastic, especially Sunclub girls, ALBA, INGRID, CHIKERA OUR BUTLER, ANIBELIS OUR BARTENDER.[... read more] All were amazing.

Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Enjoyable
Upon checking in on Feb 27th, our room had a leaky ceiling. Water was dripping on the bed. We were told someone would be up to push the bed aside! We refused that service. We were given a new room but upon using the key we walked into an occupied room! We eventually settled into Room # 127 was acceptable. Maid service was good.
Restaurants were great.
Staff: Not overly friendly. Actually, the least friendly I encountered in my many visitations down South.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Amazing Resort
This resort exceeded our expectations. The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasant one. Our room was situated on the ground floor of the first building which was perfect as 2 of our party were mobility challenged. We had easy access to the lounge, the gift shop, the bar, the buffet, the pool and the beach. I love how the beach is just a short stroll from the pool. The food was very, very good. How I wish I was back there enjoying a Banana Mama!!

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Overall review for Bavaro Beach and Palace
Beach and pools obviously were incredible!!!
Thank goodness they upgraded us as I was shocked by the state of the first room they gave us at the Bavaro beach. We are used to a standard room but this was not 5 star!! Also, when we are at the Bavaro beach hotel before the upgrade they said only 4 restaurants were included and all the rest were additional amounts of money!
Service depended on time of day and staff restaurant etc. but it wasn’t great. We had to constantly chase people down [... read more]for glasses cutlery at tables etc.
Drinks also depended on who served you but honestly many were watered down and I felt like I was just drinking sugar water at times.
Loaded with spring break Americans at the Bavaro palace. We did walk back and forth to the Bavaro beach hotel quite easily though. We felt like the buffet and drinks were better there.
Food was the biggest disappointment overall and not at all comparable to the hotel I stayed at in Punta Cana 2020. The restaurants were just okay. Perhaps this is the reality now at resorts? ?
Having said all this, we had amazing weather and loved the walks on the beach and the upgraded room!!!

Riu Republica: Enjoyable vacation!
The beach was amazing. Very large and nice to walk on. The resort is huge. During the day, the entertainment only went to one pool so it wasn’t as engaging as other Riu resorts, but the staff were very friendly. There was great entertainment and it’s a good party resort. However if you’re not interested in partying, there are a lot of spots that are quiet and relaxing.
Our room air conditioning wasn’t working when we got there. The air conditioning tech came within the hour and when it didn’t [... read more]work, they moved us to a new room.
Front desk was very kind and social. Restaurant staff was great and waiters were really kind and helpful. Overall a kind, helpful resort that is good for all kinds of purposes. I only wish the entertainment team was larger since the resort is so large. Also they didn’t follow the timeline of the events listed on the Riu app during the day, so having the Riu app wasn’t helpful.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Not a 4 1/2 * Resort
Mini bar only has 1 SMALL bottle of water per person per day. So it’s a mini fridge not a mini bar. We asked for more water but were told NO outright. We ended up buying our water. Very very small resort. Food tasted good but selection was very limited. Desserts were awful. Only 3 kinds of fruits offered. Same ones everyday. Toiletries are a luxury I guess so bring your own. Rooms are spacious but outdated. AC was loud and constantly acting up. Beach was small and full of seaweed so we went to n[... read more]eighbouring resorts and used their beach. A la carte restaurants were good. Service staff were great. Pool needs chlorine and a good clean.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Average resort!
Beach : Great!
Food: Mediocre - husband got salmonella!
Service : Good at the A la carte restaurants, otherwise poor.
Room : Family suite was great (size wise) but moldy smell and old (for example the headboard was moldy and extremely dirty).
Waterpark : half of it was closed down for repairs
Overall good value for what we paid for I guess… but I wouldn’t recommend it!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: VH Gran Ventana
The hotel had a nice entrance when arriving. The staff at the lobby were nice and polite to me.
Now the room we’re in were cleaned when we arrived. But the 2 days we were there had no hot water in the bathroom. After having the hot water, cannot control it properly and sometimes it can get really scalding at times. And sometimes no water coming from the faucet during the early morning.
The tub had a cracked in the middle.
The cleaning people were very good and helpful to us when it comes with[... read more] towels and other stuff we needed.
The Octopus buffet and Ocean Grill buffet were outstanding. We really enjoyed it very much.
The staffs were great.
The Sapore di Mare and the main buffet where everyone else eats, the staffs were no joy at all. Totally lacking in service.
The food at the main buffet was good though. Different dishes every day but they tend to bring back some dishes after 2 days.
The amenities of the resort was good. There was 1 day that had power outage for few hours.
The wifi only works best if we’re in the lobby. Some areas were spotty and some no wifi at all.
The main pool was nice. We could get drinks without leaving the pool.
But I enjoyed the quiet pool near our building.
The beach was great!
Enjoyed walking around. The water was amazing too love every day that we were there.
I personally enjoyed the city tour.
All in all I had a positive experience compared to the negative experience we had.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Great Location, great staff aged facility
Having been an many 5 star resorts that I can compare this one to, this resort overall scored low for something rated a 5 star.
Pros: it was clean & well maintained; staff was super friendly but needed some reminders; the location of the resort is at a very clean beach - no jelly fish encountered during our week there; lots of food available.
Cons: very small main pool for a resort holding the capacity of people it can (we did not go in it for that reason as the pool bar was in that pool too[... read more]); no elevators for buildings with three floors, so not ideal for seniors or families with small children unless management accommodates people on ground floor; had cockroaches in our room (it happens - but gross!); this resort is not for foodies - 90% of the food was very bland, the meat of poor quality. Desserts were good and a fair selection of cheese. We mostly ate salad and cheese because everything else tasted unappealing. A lot of people to this comment will say “oh don’t be such a hard critic, it’s a 3rd world country” - to those I say, that in Las Terrenas you can eat out fantastically well with well spiced food and good quality meat. In fact there is a restaurant within walking distance to the resort called “Porto” by Mosquito where the food is excellent and the place is very gorgeous as well. There are other very excellent eateries in town as well. We were very disappointed with the food at this resort. The Greek restaurant serves the most bland food ever but the staff was fun and we got to smash plates which was fun. The Brazilian restaurant at the resort was decent and they actually served decent quality beef for this one. The french restaurant we cancelled bc we went to Porto outside of the resort that day, but it’s said to be good. The other drawback of the resort is that each person can only go to a total of 3 a la carte restaurants which speaks to its capacity. We dodged the entertainment that’s hosted at the resort and kept to the quiet part of the beach, so we can’t comment on that. Drinks fairly good, altho the tapped President beer wasn’t very good. Some temporary bars in the evening served President beer out of the bottle which was much better. Premium alcohol was not included.
As said, the friendly staff made the stay good and the fact that the resort was kept really clean. The buildings are dated but well maintained. The food overall is bland and not for foodies. The beach is clean and pretty and the main pool very small.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Best all inclusive we have been to
The rooms are luxurious, the food is marvellous, beautiful grounds, a lovely beach and great pools. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. Don't miss the outstanding buffet that is held once a week. This is a place for relaxation and a quiet time. There are some activities and entertainment, but this is not the place for games and foam parties. I can't wait to return

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Good recommendation
We were at Blue Bay Doradas for 2 weeks in March 2024. The grounds, lobby, pools, dining area etc are well kept, however, the rooms are somewhat dated but clean. Food in the buffet, beach snack bar and specialty restaurants was good. Buffet, lobby, bar activity staff were friendly and attentive to guests. Room staff were not as attentive as at times did not leave towels, soap, coffee etc. but these things were provided when we called the front desk. This is an adult only facility but unfortun[... read more]ately there were some ‘adult’ children during our stay…not the fault of the resort, however, unacceptable behaviour should be addressed by staff.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort
This place was absolutely gorgeous. It was so cool to wake up to peacocks in the garden, and enjoy the walk between the lobby and beach. The reason I am giving this place a 4 instead of 5 is that we found the quality of food and the service from staff a little inconsistent. We came in a group of 3 families, and 2 out of the 3 of us did not initially have the rooms we reserved available. This was corrected, but not until late into the second evening for the one room. One of rooms they were able t[... read more]o give us right away because they had a last minute cancellation, according to the concierge. I wouldn't have confidence knowing I'd get the correct room if I went back there. As for food, you could always find something delicious to eat, but you couldn't necessarily trust that one food, for instance the beans, would taste as delicious from one day to the next. Every meal was an adventure to find what was good that day, which we weren't upset about, but it should be a consideration if you are a fussy eater. Most of the staff were amazing here, however, at times, there were staff that made it clear we were more of a bother to them. It made it frustrating when we had to stand in line daily to get reservations at the restaurants, and we seemed to get different reasons and answers daily. These are small inconveniences, and if you can deal with that, I recommend this place for the value and absolute gorgeous grounds.

Impressive Premium Punta Cana: Good, Bad and Bad
Lets begin by confirming what a lot of other reviews have said. This is not a 4.5 star resort. The resort is getting a little long in the tooth but it is very clean and very well taken care of. The grounds and gardening were top notch. It was nice to just walk around and enjoy the grounds themselves. The location is close to the airport and sits right on a very well taken care of beautiful part of El Cortecito Beach. There was virtually no seaweed, it was always cleaned. The only time the premiu[... read more]m beach was dirty was when ignorant tourists left their garbage for the diligent staff to clean.
We had no problems with check in other than being assigned to a construction view room in an old building (28). Stay away from this building. Our thermostat, television and toilet were broken. The ceiling fan was very noisy and looked like is was about to fall off. We were also missing a chair inside and out as well as drinking glasses. Overall, these rooms are old, tired and ultimately, not the Tropical View room we paid for. After a little visit to the front desk the next morning (with some prodding) they were able to provide us with the premium tropical view we had paid for but not until the following day (day 3 of our vacation). Paying extra as a premium guest this never should have been an issue. We were set up in building 23 which was great and directly connected to the premium lounge and buffet. The service at the premium buffet was exceptional. There was an issue we had with a particular lady at reception who's name began with an "F" who wears glasses so she can look down her nose at you. She was absolutely terrible, I don't think I saw her smile once during our whole vacation and we dreaded having to deal with her. As forward facing staff she needs to be trained on customer service.
We were set up with our Butler Ricardo on day one who was REALLY good at his job. He helped us with one thing or another, every day. Every morning he contacted us to see if we needed anything and he let us know when he was leaving every night and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay great. He was even there for us if we needed him late at night. For my Wife's Birthday he did an amazing job making our room extra special. She was very happy. I am 100% sure our stay would have been vastly different had we not had Ricardo. He is an asset to this hotel.
Service resort wide was really good and this made up for most of the other shortcomings. The spa staff were really really great as well. My wife said that Martha provided the BEST massage she has ever had.
Now the food... if you enjoy food in any way shape or form this resort is not for you. While there was lots of food to eat it was almost never hot. The main buffet had the best food which is kind of sad considering all of the other specialty restaurants on site. The opportunity was there to provide great food but it was never executed. I will also, unfortunately have to add myself to the list of people who got food poisoning from the Italian restaurant. This particular brand of food poisoning had me out of commission for 3 days. Beyond those 3 days I was VERY tentative to eat any other food. It was shameful that this food was served to me and all of the others who got sick. I lost 3 full days of my hard earned vacation. If the hotel itself gets this far into my review please note that I am a classically trained chef who could help you out with all of your food issues. Please also note if you are a coffee lover you will be hard pressed to find any, other than at breakfast. No coffee or tea after any meal. Otherwise you'd have to walk all the way over the the Cafe located off the main lobby. Please also note it closes at 10pm.
I also have to mention that our last day was a bit of a $hit show. If you have a late afternoon or evening flight and want to make the most of your last day, you can make a reservation for a changeroom at the spa for $10.00 each which includes, shower, locker, bathroom and changeroom. Check out is at 11am - no exceptions and they require that you hand it your towel cards at that time and will not let you hand them in before you leave the hotel at the end of the day. Despite the fact that we paid thousands of dollars for our trip, they were very concerned that we were going to take their cheap towels with us or worse off, their towel cards! Imagine how amazed my family and friends would have been to see the cheap ass towels I brought home with me from Dominican or an incredible towel card. I mean come on, they wanted me to put a $60.00 deposit on the towels we were going to be using for an additional 2 hours. I spent over an hour and a half, on my last day, walking from the beach to the front desk numerous times to deal with TOWELS.
We decided to try something other than a Dreams resort with this one but have learned the hard way that we should have stayed with Dreams. This resort could learn a lot from the Dreams chain. All in all we would not go back to this resort.
