We stayed 10 days at Memories Caribe and had a very relaxing vacation!
The staff in all areas of this resort were SUPER friendly, including the groundskeepers. The beach was incredible...you can walk for miles along the coast!
Beautiful resort.

Grand Memories Varadero: First Trip to Cuba
Nice Hotel and people...but too many smokers to enjoy the outdoor evening events. No problem with the room and when toilet wouldn't flush they sent a repair person right away.
I preferred the restaurant dinners to the buffet dinners and you have to register early even though they didn't seem that busy...

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Super!
This was an incredible resort! Wonderful food. If you don't like it you are very picky. I have been to many resorts in Cuba nothing like this. It is not authentic however it is a place I would recommend for a relaxing holiday. Sanctuary gives you the opportunity to a la carte everyday if you like. The servers are kind and soooo hospitable. They make you feel like royalty! Thank you

Memories Jibacoa: Very nice holiday location
The Jibacoa Memories Resort was much as we expected. The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful. Our room was adequate although there was very little water pressure for the shower. The room was in good condition and well cleaned before our arrival and each day.
The main buffet was adequate although somewhat repetitious. The al a carte dining ( 3 out of 7 nights) was excellent.
Our Sunwing rep, Eddie was great, although sadly some day tours were not available due to lack of part[... read more]icipation.
I would give negative comments about the snorkelling opportunities. Although the coral reef is right out front, as I expected, the winds resulted in the beach being red flagged every day. The staff and locals confirmed that wind is usual there. Regardless, we did enjoy snorkelling and saw a good selection of tropical fish.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Staff need some help.
There are some wonderful things about this resort namely the beach and the staff!!! I can't say enough about the staff throughout the resort! There was ample food selection but preparation was not great (I guess you can't please everyone all of the time). The pool area is small and often you could not get chairs which isn't a problem if you like the beach. The public washrooms outside of the Sanctuary portion of the resort were awful. Usually there was no hand soap, toilet paper, paper towe[... read more]ls or even toilet seats, and the toilets were often plugged. I don't think the staff had proper cleaning products to work with and it appeared most of the time they were cleaning with rags and water. Things are very worn for example the towels and bedding have seen much better days and don't smell very good (back to the soap) The whole resort seems a little run down. To sum it up the staff were amazing and very hard working but they need a little help. Nothing some soap, a few good plumbers and maybe a power washer and paint couldn't fix. This may be a 4+ star resort in Cuba but in Mexico standards (despite the wonderful staff and beautiful beach) I would rate it a 3 star when you factor in the overall condition of the resort itself.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Amazing Varadero resort!
Sanctuary at Grand Memories was a great resort. Things happen at times with your room or experience and I believe that how the staff manages those issues is really what shows what the resort is all about.
There was a mix up with the room, but the staff - everyone - assisted in making things right. The manager, the butlers and the concierges made our stay wonderful.
This was our 4th time in Cuba and our 2nd time in Cayo Coco....We loved the Resort. It was the best food we have ever had in Cuba. We had pasta, eggs, your choice of meat, fruit smoothies made in front of you....There were different things at the Buffet. Remember, you are in a different country and culture and things will be prepared differently....ADAPT!! If you go hungry it is your own fault.
The shows were fantastic. The best I have seen in Cuba. Dancers were amazing. There was a Rock and R[... read more]oll band one night that was really, really good!!. The foam parties at the pool twice a week were a blast. Fun for kids of all ages.
The hotel was clean. Public bathrooms were clean. The pools were clean. They actually had staff in the pool cleaning the walls.
Any concerns we had were taken care of quickly. They were few......The front desk safe were very pleasant and helpful.
I had to visit the Doctor while I was there and they were very Professional. I would see the Doctor's at the Buffet and they would always ask how I was and stop and chat.
You can get Wifi in the lobby bar for 21/2 pesos for an hour. The Staff are very helpful with non tech savvy people like myself!!
Music in the lobby bar in pm is really enjoyable. Bring cards to play while you sit there and listen. The Bar staff were very good, especially with our children. Very respectful.
The Staff in general were fantastic!! The Cuban people are so wonderful. Rosa and Rydell in the buffet and all their team, plus an older gentleman I can't remember his name. Rydell would have our table ready for us with wine on it when we came for lunch!! Oscar and the Blonde girl (sorry, name escapes me) at the Mojito Stand at the Pool were great!! Oscar was fantastic with the kids. The kids also loved the Cuban version beaver tail. stand by the pool. The gentleman would make different shapes for the girls. All staff at the snack bar, a la cartes, beach bar were great. The Entertainment staff are the best I have seen in Cuba and they are very enthusiastic and great with the kids.
We also went to the spa. It is not as fancy as a spa in Canada, but we had a great girl bonding time.
While we were there, there were 2 weddings. Both couples said they worked very hard to make it a memorable experience.
All the cleaning staff were great and pleasant and very helpful. The girls loved the designs they left on the bed with the towels. You can leave anything out and it won't be touched. The grounds keepers and staff on the beach and security guards are all great.
There is even an Iguana named Mario at the Beach. You can feed him and he likes to be patted under the chin. You can go for walks on the beach in each direction. It is very safe.
I would go back in a second. There were numerous guests who had been there numerous times. Our kids didn't want to leave. I tipped a lot. They don't expect it but greatly appreciate it. If I was home I would tip and they work very hard for you and deserve the same.
The a la cartes were good. The Asian was our favourite. The food was so good at the buffet we didn't care if we used all our aloted times. There were repeat guests who didn't even use them.
The red wine is great. The coffee and Tea was great and they make specialty coffees as well that are really good!
We had a wonderful holiday at this resort.

Memories Paraiso: good resort
The hotel has very good landscaping with big variety of plants. The gardeners are amazing!
Can't say the same about food: not big choice. Not very convenient counter with trays - just from one side you can pick up from the tray, and it creates the line.
the pools are excellent - we were lucky that one part of the resort was under renovation, and we could enjoy the two huge pools without crowds - people prefer the bar near the pool, so we were almost just two of us swimming in these two pools [... read more]near closed buildings.
We paid additional for Diamond Club - it does not worth. The Diamond Club designated beach area is small, you need to reserve your sun beds early in the morning. We were going to the other side to enjoy privacy. For people who like crowds and very lowed music it could be the advantage.
beaches are amazing - the best we ever seen in Cuba before. You are entering water not thinking about any rocks that can hurt you. Weeds are there - but they are everywhere, we are not very picky about weeds. At least, they are on the ground, not in water. Cuban guys are doing their best to pick them up every morning manually - it works somehow.
The worst thing - bites of some creatures we did not understand if it was mosquitos or something else. We could not see anything, but we are all beaten and itching. We did not notice any fumigation procedures in the hotel as in the other places we were before.
Overall, it is good resort, and we can recommend it. Just don't pay additional money for Diamond Club - the room is the same, no significant privileges.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Excellent place
This hotel was absolutely perfect! The people were nice, treated you like family. The food was not so bad at all, entertainment was amazing every night. The walking distance to the beach was breathtaking. The service was good. The only complaint would be the access to WiFi, it's very poor and a little tricky, but not the biggest problem. My overall experience at this hotel was just amazing and would come back again!

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Like home
Just got back from Memories Caribe Cayo Coco. Even though it rained and was windy almost every day we still swam and had fun.
The food was good and the drinks cold. The best part of the hotel was the staff. Kind, caring and attentive. Sharing their life stories with us and bringing us fruit from their gardens. We felt like we were with our extended family. We exchanged gifts, hugs and e-mails. Definitely will be going there again.
Miss it already.

Memories Paraiso: Amazing resort!
I loved the place!.
(except the plastic cups and plastic straws i saw polluting the beautiful beach and resort paths).
The accommodations were great, grounds were great, food was great!
The ocean and beach were beautiful.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Weather was great!
I loved that the beach bar man does not offer straws at his bar. I think the rest of the hotel should follow his lead.
I like to leave a place better than i find it so i got a bag from the life guard an[... read more]d spent some time filling up a big bag of beach trash. Lots of plastic cups and straws, cigarette butts.
On the paths at the resort because it is my nature, i was constantly picking up plastic straws and plastic cups. When you have a resort near the ocean there should be no plastic available for the selfish tourists can pollute such a beautiful place.
I like to explore a country too so I booked 3 trips through the hotel travel rep.for Air Canada, who was an exceptional travel rep!!!
1. I did the all day trip to Havana.
2. The jeep safari trip.
3. The catamaran trip.
I had two major concerns: (One involved the hotel, and one the airport in Santa Maria).
1. HAVANA: On the bus our English speaking tour guide did not say what to do if we got separated from the group, well, I did not get separated, THEY LEFT ME BEHIND after the first of many tours in Havana.!
Luckily i am not a person who suffers from panic attacks.
After sitting and talking to a few locals for 30 minutes or more about my dilemma, we were about to go to a tour place to see what to do, that is when FINALLY i heard my tour guide calling my name. I said 'where is everyone? He told me they took the bus to the lunch place. What?! They left without me? I thought under no circumstance does a tour guide LEAVE A MAN BEHIND. I asked him "didn't anyone ask where is Brenda?". He said "no". (I found out later they were looking for me and did ask about me, so he lied about that). I went with him and waited for the bus driver to come and get us, while the rest of the group were having their free lunch. They took me to a bank, which was pre-arranged before we left our hotel, then we went to the restaurant to pick up the rest of the group. After parking the guide asked me "Aren't you going to have lunch"? I could see my group lined up to board the bus, so I said no, I did not want to make them wait for me. This should have never happened. We did the rest of the Havana tour and got back to our hotel around 3 AM! It was supposed to be from 4:30 AM to 11 PM.
The second incident was at the airport. After booking another flight to fly home on West Jet on Saturday (because i adopted a kitten in Cuba and Air Canada does not allow pets). I left my cat and luggage with the West Jet rep in his office and went next door to use the washroom. I saw sign "Toilets" so went in. I went in a stall and locked the door. When I was ready to leave, the door lock was stuck/jammed, and there was no way to get it unlocked. I thought okay scream for help, which I did, and no one came. I tried to break the door down to get out but it was too strong, so i continued to scream at the top of my lungs "help me, i am stuck in the washroom", HELP, HELP! Nothing, no one came to help me. The outside bathroom door was open so i could not figure out why no one was coming to help a woman screaming for help. Fortunately, there was an opening under the door of the stall and I wondered if i could squeeze my body through it? So, i pushed the one small bag i had with me under the door then got on my belly and crawled like a lizard out of the stall. When I stood up i immediately saw a guy in a work uniform standing in front of me. I said 'did you hear me screaming?" He said no, this is the men's toilet and I had to pee. I just saw toilet sign, did not know it was men's room. I told this guy about my dilemma and he was very sympathetic with me, and said he would make sure someone comes to correct this jammed lock. What if a person was having a heart attack in there or being assaulted, no one can hear you outside when you scream, or if you are too large to squeeze under? I think they need to change the concrete wall for future safety of people in that bathroom. I asked my west jet rep, "did you not hear me screaming for help?" (as his office was adjacent to the men's room), and he said 'no'. My pastor preached to us "Don't freak out", well, I did freak out, screaming, swearing, trying to bust the door down. It was a very frightening experience.
The other issue was my hotel rep told me that Air Transat takes animals so i booked a flight with them. Rep told me 'be in hotel lobby at 7 AM on Saturday morning" for airport bus coming to get you, so I was there.
I waited and waited and asked a young man working at our hotel front desk where is the airport bus? He said don't worry, sometimes they are late, it will be here. So i waited and waited. (This young man should not give out false information, if he does not know the situation, do not get involved, or, look into the matter!)
Turns out there was no airport bus coming for me because I did not confirm I was flying with them, so i had to pay to take a private taxi to the airport. 70 pesos.
When I got to the airport, the Air Transat guy said i could not take my cat on the plane and had to go buy a hard carrier and put her in cargo. No way was i going to put a 2 month old, 2 pound kitten in cargo.
So, what to do now? That is when I went to talk to West Jet as I heard they take animals too. When he saw my carrier i bought at the vet's office he said that is fine, it is a carry on. My new flight to Toronto flies out of Vera dera so another paid private taxi ride to that airport.
I was pretty flustered by now so the Transat girl who knew of my dilemma was on the phone with my hotel rep, because of all mix up and hassle he reimbursed me the 70 pesos for the taxi ride from hotel, now i just had to add 60 pesos for the cab to vera dero. That was very nice of him.
In future, if someone is adopting a pet make sure all people involved know which airlines allow them on the plane, i.e. WEST JET! Yeah West Jet! You saved the day!
My kitten Ariel is loving her new life in Canada.
Another thing, on the tours advertised, there was a cock fight listed, but it was crossed out and my travel rep said they dont do that anymore, but on the tour bus, the guide said we would be visiting a demo cock fight. This shocked many on the bus as we all are against such cruel sport to animals. It was a demo and no one was hurt, but this was a shock, again, miscommunication.
The catamaran was great.
I had my ocean cleanup recycled plastic water bottle with me so took the opportunity to share with some people about this project. I met a wonderful young boy from Argentina who is going to look it up OCEAN CLEANUP and see how it all started because of a young man from Denmark, Boyan Slat. Apparently Argentina beaches are full of plastic garbage so I am excited to see what this young boy does. I am sending his photo to Boyan to tell him of this young man's interest and enthusiasm about getting involved.
I only went on it to see how the dolphins were being treated. I am against whales and dolphins in captivity. I think the hotel tours should not support this kind of "pseudo-entertainment". The announcer sounded Russian and it was just like a circus act, what they made the dolphins do. Please do not offer anything that involves cruelty to animals. The jeep safari was fantastic, very animal friendly, seeing a farm and fantastic lunch with local Cuban couple.
I highly recommend people take the tours offered at resort. I met so many wonderful people this way!
p.s. i only gave a fair final rating because of the plastic cups and straws i saw discarded. If you don't supply them, people cannot toss them as trash! I would love to come back and work with them on educating people about trash in the ocean. Put signs on the beach, "clean beach, dirty beach", some people have no brains or respect for beautiful nature.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Didn't meet our expectations - was the worst Cuba experience we've had
We stayed at Memories Varadero from Oct 25 - Nov 1, 2016. It rained for a good part of 5 of the 7 days! While the staff were friendly and the resort appearance and beach were very good, here are some of the things that we found wrong or unacceptable with the resort:
1. Food: Very limited selection at the buffet, a la carte restaurant and snack bars. The buffet food that was supposed to be hot was actually cold because they put it out too far in advance of the restaurant opening; there was[... read more] limited variety and sometimes they ran out of a "staple" item - even though the resort was only about 30% full.
2. Room was dated: no hot water - only lukewarm; mattress was very old - lumpy with bedsprings sticking up; no coffee maker in the room. The resort is quite large and since our room was in a building down at the beach, the long trudge to the lobby bar for early morning coffee was treacherous due to very limited lighting along the footpaths. Towels - we only received fresh bath towels 4 days after we checked-in. Since it rained a lot, we spent a lot of time watching TV - the TV was old with very limited English speaking channels available.
3. We had Diamond Club service, which meant we were suppose to get "waiter" service at the beach. The two times we were able to spend some time at the beach the waiters never came around. Diamond Club is not worth the extra money.
4. The snack bars and beach bar closed early - sign said open 'til 5:00pm - they closed at 4:30pm.
5. Activities pool was dirty - not quite enough water in the pool to make it to the skimmers. I never saw anyone vacuuming or cleaning the pool the whole week. As a result there was always lots of hair, and gungy stuff floating on the surface. Yuk!
Even though we got a good $deal on our trip, there are not enough good things to say about this resort, so we won't ever go back.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Not the best
First off the resort is under construction and remodeling. They are more worried about it then what is wrong or broken with the old section.if they fixed what is wrong withe the units that the guest were staying in first and who were paying now l would see giving them a great review. But l will give a bad review.
L just came back after 14 days there from Oct 20 till November 3.
First off 3/4 off the staff very best people l ever met ,they are hard working and and try very hard to help i[... read more]f they can if something is wrong .
This is our second time here and our last we booked our trip in first of July and asked to have a bottom floor .but when we got there they had use on the second floor and my wife can,t do the stairs ,they said maybe in 2 or three days they could do something for me. I told them who was going to carry her up the stairs . Luckily a nice young couple who very checking in who heard what was going on and offered their room on the bottom to us l just wished we had got their names .
The many things that were wrong were no water pressure in the room ,it hard to have a shower with very little water . Next there was no screen door on the patio doors and the bugs were bad this time so bring bug spray. Next is the food ,they try hard to cook it right but need help l feel.
The bartender in the piano bar is the greatest in mixing drinks thou.
Well there is more but not now we will not be back there .
