Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Very good! But....
We enjoyed our trip in Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana. Food is good 4.5 of 5 stars. Alcohol 3.5/5 *, it depends on bar you are drinking. The Beach is really good 4.5/5. The are some negative things. First, there is no WI FI in the room.... It's sad guys! Really sad. 4.5* hotel and you have to pay for WI FI? Secondly, some of the staff is not very friendly. It's kinda weird for me. But its only 5% max, so it's acceptable. To conclude, they have some points to improve. Good hotel, but a little bi[... read more]t overpriced.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: A big improvement from last year
We have been going to the Ambar every year for the past 10 years. This year they have upgraded this part of the resort to compete with the luxury resort market. We were very impressed with the upgrades and with the new swim up pool. The buffet food seemed better than previous years and the service was excellent.
Very well cared, nice staff, excelent accommodations!!
My only complain is about Wi-Fi - it is not nice to have to refresh it every 24 hours and I had mine expired at 6pm the night before departure.
Wi-Fi should be available all the time during the stay. When you are gone, you do not use it anymore.
Food: buffet is sort of ok, A la carte - very good!

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Absolutely amazing
I was impressed with this resort from the minute we arrived. The food is amazing. The swim out room we booked was so worth it. The beach is incredible. I can go on and on about how beautiful it is at Ambar.
The service and staff were great and I would definitely rate this hotel a luxury 5 star.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Great vacation
I have stayed at many Grand Bahia hotels and was not as impressed with this one. Although the grounds were beautiful and the rooms were very nice, the service at the buffet was not great. We would literally sit there some mornings, eat our entire breakfast and yet had not been asked if we wanted coffee. We went down there to celebrate our friend's 30 anniversary and three times in the week, their room was not cleaned and we had to go to the front desk on three occasions to complain about issu[... read more]es. The drinks were okay but not the greatest.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Almost a five star
My wife and I just got back from Ambar - stayed February 22 to March 1, 2019. We very much enjoyed our vacation there and really had no major issues come up during our stay.
Room - we had room 69205 which faced the back of the Royalton next door...not much of a view and we should have asked for a better room but didn't and so can't complain about that. The room was very spacious and renovated in November. The bathroom area is pretty much open where the shower is so don't expect to greet anybo[... read more]dy if someone is having a shower...no big deal for a couple. Shower is huge and loved the rain showerhead. Toilet is in it's own water closet. Room has a safe..fridge was stocked daily. We found the bed hard and asked for a topper to be put on the mattress..it took all of about 5 minutes from when I asked for it until the maid brought it to our room...that was fast. The topper helped a bit. Too many light switches in the room, it seems there is a switch for every light and there are a lot throughout the room so you have to try several to shut off or turn on the light you want.
A/C - the A/C was a bit of a pain..I had to keep the fan on high for it to cool the room...otherwise the temperature would climb. In the middle of the night, the A/C fan would switch to low automatically and so we would wake up being hot so we kept the ceiling fan on....the ceiling fan has one speed - FAST. That was another irritant, not having different speeds available on the ceiling fan.
Food - we ate at 5 of the restaurants with Limbo and Mashua Nikkei being our favorites. Portofino and MEAT were also good. The food at El Olivo was not that good. The buffet at Palmyra is very good, we had breakfast there every morning. One irritant was the obligation to make reservations, not being able to eat where and when we wanted...we have stayed at other resorts where reservations are not required and that is so much easier and simple for the guests.
Staff - most are friendly and happy to help although we did have a few that were not. Language is sometimes a barrier if you do not speak Spanish (or even French) but we managed in English and French. Thanks to Miguel at the omelette station for his great service and smile everyday!! The staff at Palmyra were especially friendly - Luis, Miguel, Altagracia, Emile and the greeters too! Maura at the beach buffet was also friendly as well as Jeffry serving drinks on the beach. There were others but those are the names that I noticed.
Booze - drinks were good and we often asked for doubles to help things along ...no Crown Royal so that was a bit of a downer...we had drinks at the lobby bar before supper every night and enjoyed that spot. They have caesars (not bloody Marys) which was a treat and they were pretty good too.
Beach - the beach here is beautiful and seems to stretch forever. The Ambar has a very clean stretch of beach with workers raking daily. Beach chairs are numerous as well as palapas. Ice cream cart comes in daily close to the beach bar...a cool treat much appreciated!! We stayed at the beach since it's so beautiful and with the breeze was not as hot as the pool area.
Gym - I worked out at the gym every morning and it was a pretty nice gym. While it is not huge, it has a good selection of new equipment and weights, treadmills, ellipticals and cycles. There is a yoga room with daily classes.
Spa - we enjoyed a couples massage one morning, with a hot tub in our massage room first then the massage which was great. After I used the sauna then the cool pool and finally relaxed on a water bed. Hadn't used a water bed in years but that was a nice touch. No separate men's or women's section in the spa except the change rooms.
The whole Bahia Principe is huge with the different resorts spread out throughout. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, great landscaping with workers all over the place cleaning, pruning, fixing, etc.
If I could give the Ambar a 4.5 I would but that is not an option and it's not quite a 5 for me for the irritants mentionned above..nothing major but a few tweeks could be done.
Thanks to everyone at Ambar for a wonderful vacation.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Amazing vacation !
To begin Marnie was an amazing agent. She was extremely helpful through the whole process and her recommendation of the resort was right on! The resort was amazing and was everything she promised it would be. It was beautiful with amazing food and service. Definitely five star.
Wow is all I can really say. It was beautiful with a great location. Staff amazing, pools amazing, beach amazing. Very clean resort. Whenever we had an issue (self inflicted) they came right away! I would recommend this resort to anyone! Amazing for families , couples or group of friends. Things for all ages to do.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Large but Fabulous Resort with lots of action
Overall a great resort and I will return and recommend this resort to anyone who listens to me.
We (my girlfriend and I) stayed at Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana for 7 days starting Feb 23rd 2019.
In short... we had a great time and we definitely will return to this resort.
Positives - location was great and only 35 minutes from the airport ; beaches were beautiful and no seaweed on beaches; climate was 28 degrees Celsius everyday with a breeze off the water; drinks were flowing; food[... read more] was good and specialty restaurants were even better ... especially the steak place "On the Grill" ; pools were busy with lots of action and fun; entertainment was good; golf cart service to take you around this large resort if you don't want to walk; grounds were picturesque and immaculate; many ammenities such as gift shops, stores, gym, disco, casino, etc; felt like you were living in a tiny village; several public squares to sit and enjoy drinks/coffee/entertainment; just a great place to spend a vacation.
Negatives - had to wait for a room at check in time ... waited approx 1.5 hrs ...they did a poor job communicating with us while we were waiting ...don't know the reason why we waited ... they did not give us options to go get a drink or enjoy the facility while we waited for our room.
I think we had some mosquitos in our room ... my legs got bit quite a bit.
Other than these small issues ... I can't say enough good things about this resort ... if you want to stay at a very busy resort with lots of people and tons of action ... this is the place to be !!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Not so luxury
This resort actually was highly recommended to us.
We do travel a lot and I have to say, for us it was not the luxury we expected.
The grounds were beautiful and very well kept.
The staff is nice and accommodating.
The rooms need some updating, especially the bathrooms.
The beach is perfect for little kids. I like to swim out a bit but that is not possible since the water only reaches your waist if you are lucky. It is kind of fenced off since the waves are very high. The water however is cr[... read more]ystal clear.
They have a mexican celebration evening but you have to pay to attend which was very disappointing. We refused to do so since it was quite expensive. We figured at a luxury hotel this should be included.
The food was ok, for everyone something but no wow factor either.
The shuttle buses between the resorts are a nice touch.
All in all, i would not consider this resort a 5* Luxury

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Decent & Enjoyable
The BP Akumal was a very good place to call home for a week. The accommodations were reasonable (beds a little to be desired though - at least in our unit. They were twin beds and not comfortable); property overall very good - everything was easy to walk to and close; you could always find a lounger on the beach; staff very friendly and accessible. The food, especially in the main buffet restaurant, was very good. There was plenty to choose from and delicious. We would have only 2 things that we[... read more] didn't like about the resort (apart from the beds). 1) Although we tried to book our a la carte restaurants as soon as we got there, everything was pretty much gone (unless we wanted to eat dinner at 10pm - which we didn't!. and sometimes that wasn't even an option). We had to settle for 4 a la carte nights out of the 7 nights we were there. The Mexican option is poor - stick with the buffet for dinner. Also, 3 of the 4 options for a la carte dining were not on our property - we had to go over to the Coba resort for 2 of them; the other was up at the Sian Kaan (Japanese restaurant). The only one that we could get on our property was the Italian. All the a la carte dining were top drawer (again - except the Mexican). Our 2nd concern was the beach with the lack of ocean access. Your only option is to swim in three tiny lagoons that they have marked off. The water does not get any deeper than waist height. This would be an issue if you have children as they will become quickly bored - there's no playing in the waves, etc. Your only access to the ocean are these little lagoons - and they are filled with people between 10am-5pm. My wife loves to swim and had to go down very early in the morning for a short swim as no one was in the water yet. It was a short swim because of the size of the lagoon - not because of time. Other than those few issues, the resort is very good and we'd be happy to go back. I'd give it a 4.25 out of 5.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Very Clean Resort
Hello,
The resort was very clean and food was amazing. The staff were terrific. I was disappointed with regards to the pool closing each day at 6:00 PM and the fact that it was almost impossible to find a beach chair without having to get up each day at 5:30 AM. The sports bar was not able to get Hockey, which for a resort with 99% of the visitors being Canadian should be taken into consideration.
The beds were very hard. Although very lovely we will not be returning.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Standard Resort
Check in: disorganized as usual.
Rooms: clean, little to no hot water pressure, some out dated, some are better then others.
Grounds: well maintained, however they need to spray more for bugs though, 3 times a week is NOT enough.
Staff: some better then others, but I have had way better service elsewhere.
Food: AMAZING no complaints. Medeteranian al a cart is the only one worth your while, other two just serve the same things as the buffet.
Drinks: strong... as expected ;)
Language: ve[... read more]ry little English, language berrier was very difficult, they really need to work on this.
Beach/Pool: honestly the main pool could be maintained better, but the other two were just fine. Beach, lots of sand flees... I am still itching. They really need to spray more. Very little seaweed on the beach, beach was well maintained.
Only complaint: I have stayed at almost all of the Grand Bahia’s and some of them multiple times and usually I get something extra like a bottle of champagne or even a comment like “thanks for returning†I don’t know how many people I told that I was a returning guest and it was like they didn’t care. No one did anything.
Overall I would give it a 3.5-4/5 nothing horrible, but also nothing amazing. If I had paid about $150-$200 less (under $1000) I feel like it would have been a better price. Or even $1000 flat. I did get a deal but some people were paying upwards of $1500 and it is definitely not worth that or more. This resort has lots of potential but they need someone in there to step up their game. A manager who pushes the staff to do better and wants to renovate some of the rooms.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Exceptional treatment of clients
I will start off by saying there are no negative comments on anything in particular but there's one thing that really stood out for me.
My friend got an ear-complication after diving. Woke up at 2am and went to concierge. They immediately arranged transport for him with security to the medical centre. While there, the security guard stayed with him (a good 40mins) while he received treatment. Afterwards, he made sure my friend got back to his room and the next day, we were able to get the medic[... read more]ation the nurse had prescribed from the on-site pharmacy.
It didn't stop there.
While we were enjoying our meal at the Mediterranean restaurant (fantastic meal - highly recommend the lamb), a representative from the medical team stopped by our table. She came to check up on my friend and asked if he needed anything else. That means, a) they couldn't find us in our room, b) they went through all the trouble of tracking us down since we had booked our reservation, c) came all the way to check on us.
That, to me, was incredibly impressive and I highly recommend this resort for their quick response, personal treatment, and follow through with their guests. Also, the food was amazing. :)

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great Resort...
The hotel was great...the grounds are immaculate very well taken care of. They have 2 pools in the adult section..the quiet pool and the "busy pool'...we spent most of our time in the quiet pool side....easy to get drinks and lots of loungers for the guest's.
