Sunscape Puerto Plata: Never Again

It is a cheaply run, understaffed resort that requires a lot of attention. It was so bad that we asked the Sunwing Rep to check for availability at the neighbouring resort The Gran Ventana. I think that Sunscapes was over capacity while we were there as the service in dining and bars were horrible. Repeatedly, there were not enough dishes to serve the guests. We always had to wait for something: plates, glasses, cutlery, napkins and/or beach towels. We had to wave to the coffee and water wai [... read more]ters to be served. Wifi was horrible. They served Classico Liquor not Brugale. Always long waits at any bar as usually only one bartender. It RAINED for 3 days and the resort had flooded rooms in multiple buildings. We were on the second floor and needed to be evacuated at 10:30 PM because our ceiling was leaking from the flooded room above us. Sewer smell was profound. Surface water up to mid calfs in many areas. There is a bridge that you walk on over dead water en route to the beach area. The dam there washed out and created a deep crevice in the sand 50’wide X 200’ long. The food was the same slop repeated every day at all three buffet locations. We were very disappointed with the coffee shop. It was always packed due to lack of employees and the desserts we the same as the buffets. The pool was disgustingly dirty. There was an orangey scum ring all around it. The entertainment consisted of two aerobic classes daily and the evening show. It would have been nice to have an animation team to run fun activities during the travellers’ 3 rainy days. We certainly did not get what we paid for at $1905/person. We travel a lot and we are just average folks. This is an honest and accurate review of our experience. Seriously, I caution you about the lack of service at this resort.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Wonderful resort for families

I really felt everything about this resort exceeded expectations from the rooms, food, drinks, service, pools, and especially the beach which was so close, sandy, and beautiful for snorkeling. The resort is not perfect, some aspects are dated but it really offered more than we could possibly need. Have reasonable expectations and you will be very pleased. The Sens Riviera: OK Resort

Spent 1 week with our 4yr old and 8month. Kids Club was amazing - highly recommend. Our 4yr old begged to go and he had an amazing time. Bernice was so friendly and really made him feel comfortable, and also made us feel comfortable leaving him there. But for being a kids focused resort, improvements are needed. Buffet should open earlier than 6pm, more highchairs are needed for sure as they were always scrambling to find one. Dinoland was awesome, a hidden gem really. But it should also  [... read more]open earlier - we went at 9:30am on our last day and it was not yet open. The beach was beautiful , we spent most of our time there and also the kids pool. We had a deluxe tropical view room - nothing fancy , definitely dated but we don’t spend time in the room other than sleeping, so it served its purpose. The resort seems very dated and needs some upgrades. Overall we had a great week, kids had a blast. But we would not go back.

The Sens Riviera: Good Family vacation.

Check in was a breeze (sun club ), room was very nice, beds were super comfortable. Our room was sunclub pool view, it had a French balcony, so we could not sit on it, but we could open the window and allow a nice breeze into the room. We had zero problems with anything in the room. The wifi is great at this resort, strong signal everywhere and that includes the beach area. The beach is narrow but beautiful and you can walk it for miles. Snorkelling is amazing two feet off the beach, lots  [... read more]of fish to see and a couple of resident stingrays that hang out around the fishing boats. The kids pool area and Dinoland are very well done. Grandkids loved it. Food quality and selection were very good. We tried almost all of the restaurants (we did not go to Tiki taco) and were not disappointed. The buffet is very good and has something for everyone. Did not go hungry at this resort. Coco Cafe is a gem, great snacks and amazing cappuccino coffees. Entertainment was good, we enjoyed the Urban show, the Fire show and the Circus. The staff here is truly wonderful and will do everything in their power to ensure you have a great worry free vacation. This is not a five star resort, but it is a good four star, great value for your money and the staff are wonderful.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: More a 3* property

The resort is an older property with a newer tower. The older rooms are dated. I was in two different rooms that required maintenance. The rooms are kept clean. A good supply of towels are changed daily and amenities like shampoo and lotions are supplied. A fridge is stocked daily. The beach is nice but not all soft sand. More shade areas need to be set up. I could not walk along the beach to other resorts but you can access them by walking out to the road. Nightly entertainment was out door bands except for a fun Mardi Gras parade The staff are exceptional - happy, friendly and willing to please

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Excellent resort, would recommend it without hesitation

We stayed here from Feb 24 to Mar 2, 2020. The staff are fabulous, the resort grounds are impeccable. If you go I highly recommend the sunclub upgrade, it was well worth it. The beach is beautiful and very well maintained, the staff was up cleaning the seaweed and grounds before sun-up. Restaurant staff and bar staff were extremely friendly, the hotel maids were exceptional

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Wonderful Stay

This was a wonderful extremely clean Resort. Our rooms were cleaned daily and the fridge replenished. There were reviews that the food was a hit and miss but we thoroughly enjoyed everything. We were told there was a new chef so maybe this is why. The buffet is not big like a RIU but the food is spiced and sauced just perfectly. The Seafood and Grill restaurants are right in the beach. The beach is beautiful and the reef makes the water calm. Some areas are rocky to enter the water but some spot [... read more]s are not. We did not need water shoes but see that many did bring them. The thing we really enjoyed is these are some of the friendliest people we have ever met. Very happy people anywhere u went. U are a 10 minute walk to the Sea Aquarium and Mambo beach. An island tour can be arranged at the desk where ur tour guide “Papi” will entertain u to make this one of the best tours to choose. Everyone we spoke to seemed to have no complaints and we would recommend this hotel. The weather was excellent with a breeze It was very enjoyable. We found the location to be great and a 2 dollar bus ride gets u to downtown Williamstad where u can shop and enjoy the culture.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Definitely a 4 star

The resort it self is very out dated. The food is ok, Japanese and sea food a la Cartes are quite good. This resort is definitely a 4 star, despite the fact that the staff was excellent. Left feeling I paid way too much for this experience. Could have done a lot better else where for the money. As a result I would have a hard time recommending this resort and no I won’t be going back.

Sunscape Splash: Fun resort for our family

This hotel had helpful staff, delicious food and interesting evening entertainment. The Barefoot Grill served jerk chicken in the afternoons each day and Shakira was a very welcoming and friendly staff person.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Delicious Food

The food was truly amazing at this resort. The presentation, flavour and quality were top notch. The beach was lovely! Lots of shade and places to enjoy the sunshine. Lack of beach chairs was a concern most days. The resort needs to purchase more!! Staff very friendly although the male staff around the pool were much too friendly with our university girls. Way too flirtatious and one actually followed one of our girls to a washroom waiting for her to come out and acknowledge his attention. Not  [... read more]acceptable at all. She was very uncomfortable and even afraid. Service at the restaurants was pretty decent. The only a la carte that we have a complaint about is the Asian Restaurant. We lined up before 6pm to have dinner. Probably 20 people got in before us and we were then told we’d have to wait an hour and a half to get a table. We could see there were empty tables so my guess is they didn’t have enough staff to accommodate the size of their restaurant. Disappointing. Never returned to that one. Rooms were decent although the shower leaked onto the floor each time we used it. Poor design. Overall this was a nice place but the best part was the food!

The Sens Riviera: Great vacation resort

The Sunscape Akumal has many great qualities, such as, no arm bands, no requirement to pre-book restaurant sittings, well maintained facility. Only confusion was that when we booked it showed as a Sunclub King with Balcony, however we recd a sliding door with a railing ( no balcony ).

Sunscape Akumal - the good and the bad. Let’s start with the travelers be aware the pictures you see advertised are mostly from the Sun Club area of the resort. The beautiful pools, sun beds – all for Sun Club only. Which is an upgrade. If you do not get the upgrade you get one small pool with not enough lounge chairs and very crowded small part of the beach. Don’t even bother asking for bottled water that’s for Sun Club only. The rooms are nice. We had aunts in our bathroom so th [... read more]ey had to fumigate. Food was good – but I am not a picky eater. Coco café was the best. If you are coming with kids they have great kids area and programs. Evening entertainment was also good. All the staff work very hard and are very pleasant. Because of the restrictions I will not be returning. My suggestion to the resort – please give guests spoons when serving coffee at the buffet. With all this said we still had a nice vacation - how can you not when Toronto had -30 C.

The Sens Riviera: Crowded and exclusionary

Arrived at the property in the late evening and was not offered a welcome drink and hot towel that was included at check in. Was given a room in Dino land that was a mile away from the ocean. However we did get a room change so that was nice. My main concern and reason why I will not recommend or return to this resort is that when yousee the photos and read the package description has it included 5 pools and and use of the beach. When we arrived we were told that we could not use the bulk of th [... read more]e hotel because we were not sunclub members ($100 pn extra) so we could use 1 pool and be on a small portion of beach. So this being high season you need to be up at dawn to find a spot on the beach let alone the pool. All the buildings are glassed in do there is no breeze. Asked the bartender for a bottle of water . Bar tender poured me a glass of water and said the bottle water was for sunclub only. Lints of signs sunclub only it’s crazy.

Sunscape Sabor Cozumel: We enjoyed our time at Sunscape Sabor Cozumel

We traveled to Cozumel with Air Transat, arriving at 10pm and into the hotel by 11pm. We had requested a King Bed. The room we were given Saturday was two double beds. On Sunday they told us they were full but could get us a King the next day. Monday we were given the room with a King. It was quite clean. the bathroom had new tiles in the shower, but the door showed signs of long term damp. The bar in thP lobby had great Cappuccino that we got each afternoon after the beach. The room was the furthest away from the Portofino Buffet restaurant, but close to the lobby and pool. We enjoyed meals in all the restaurants and were not disappointed. The bar service was excellent, with drinks served daily on the beach. We loved the beach and snorkeling daily. There were lots of chairs available on the beach in the shade and sun. The pools were busy and popular. The older buildings are in need of a face lift, but the newer ones look very nice. The weather was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Friendly Sunscape!

Beach front units are great. The resort is so already out that you don’t realize how big it actually is. Enjoyed not having to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants and each and many of the staff at Sunscape go out of their way for you. Snorkeling right off the beach is fantastic - would go again!

Sunscape Dorado Pacifico: Hotel Review

My husband and I stayed at the hotel between Feb 6-13, 2020. The grounds and hotel was kept very clean. The staff were freindly and easy going, very nice. Most of the guest are repeaters, from US and Canada. This made meeting people easy and converstations flowed in and out of the pool. The hotel is a little dated, however, the staff made the visit lovely. The food was displayed every day. There was more mexican food on the buffets. Sunscape Dorado Pacifico: Pretty great place for the family.

The grounds are awesome for family's. The food was good not great. The only downside was the waves on the beach can be a little much for the young ones, just make sure you listen to the life guards and your fine.

The staff were totally amazing!!! The grounds and the swimming pool are fantastic!!! Great for children and adults. I would definitely go again!!! Entertainment every night for both young and old. The food, wow the options were endless!! Close to all shopping. I would definitely go back!!

The Sens Riviera: Great Resort

When reading other reviews prior to leaving I was a little nervous. There really is nothing to complain about. The beach was beautiful, the food was good and the wine was even better. The best part of this resort was the staff. They went out of their way to try to accommodate you in any way that they could. If they could do something for you they would. The only complaint I would personally have is that the resort is a little on the small side.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Nice Resort

Just got back from Sun Scape Resort in Domenican Republic. We upgraded to the Sun Club which we where glad we did very nice and private treated great. Totally recommend doing that well worth the money. We found the food was ok nothing great, not much seafood which we where both surprised about. We found they needed to play music at the beach, and also need to change up music in the evening. They have the same Duo playing would be nice if they played more Domenican music and change up acts nightl [... read more]y. Also the vendors on the beach after awhile become very annoying. I payed 30 US per person also to get VIP for the Super Bowl party slash game. Which only got to watch not even two quarters of the game because the streaming stopped. I would rank this place maybe a 4 out of 5 not sure if i would go back again overall was great weather. Thank you Rick
