Good job after Irma.

It was amazing to see how far the repairs of the resort had come after hurricane Irma almost destroyed this beautiful resort. There were still areas not yet completed when we arrived at the end of January. One al a carte restaurant, the entertainment area and a number of rooms both regular and on the lagoon were being worked on. The grounds of the resort once lush and green was ravished, large palm trees were gone as well as there was a scrub area that once was green vegetation. The gardeners we [... read more]re working hard to repair damage to the grounds. With the improvements a number of changes were made. All new furniture for the lobby. restaurants and bars as well as improvements to lobby, buffet and pool bar. The beach was still beautiful unfortunately it was very windy the 10 days we were there. The food was great as usual as well as the staff were friendly and fun. Entertainment was held in the lobby area. The resort had Wi Fi which could be accessed in your room for a peso per hour. This was a great surprize. We did have a good time at the Melia Cayo Coco in spite of the weather. Thankfully our friends we made from previous visits were safe and well. Kudos Cuba on the great recovery after Irma. Not as happy with Trip Central, Sunwing and Toronto airport. Sunwing made changes in our flight times which were changed from a convenient afternoon time to an early morning flight a month before we were to leave. Trip Central's communication around the why behind the change as well as they were not able to obtain any compensation from Sunwing on our behalf. The luggage retrieval once in Toronto airport took over 45 minutes.

Very nice resort

We really like the hotel....we had stayed at the Melia twice before in Cayo Santa Maria and thought it was better but were newer. We would stay again at the Melia if we ever go back to Cayo Coco. They really need to figure out a way to stop people from tying up lawn carts and umbrellas all day by putting towels down very early in the morning and only using it minimally throughout the day. Very annoying to have to compete with this every day of a vacation.

Great relaxing time

Food - great! Some repetition at the buffet, but lots to choose from. A la carte restaurants were also well above our expectations. We recommend them. Staff - excellent - friendly - when our safe stopped working in the room, they had it fixed within 15 minutes Beach - very windy - we stayed by the pool Grounds - gardeners are working to plant new bushes, flowers, and palm trees. Considering that it is Cuba,I give this resort a 5 star (4 star when compared to Mexican resorts)

Walkways require improvement

Although I understand the effects of the recent hurricane on the buildings and vegetation and trees there are some areas that require improvement and should be repaired or replaced right away because they are dangerous. I am referring to the sidewalks/patios. The concrete sidewalks and patios are crumbling. Some sidewalks are built with older pieces of concrete which can easily be tripped over. Considering that most of your guests are senior citizens these areas are very dangerous.

Hurricane Comeback!

Melia Cayo Coco is a gem of an adults only resort, with good food, great beaches and wonderful staff. Although this was our first visit, many we met have been coming back for years. The staff is working very hard to restore the grounds to their pre-hurricane beauty. They are doing more than that, they are upgrading as they go. The pool was busy all day. Nice relaxing choice

Well thought out resort with good service. Rooms quite basic. Avoid smoking rooms as very smelly. Tennis courts in need of repair and are currently not lit in the evening as advertised. Pool area very relaxing with lots of chairs but cabanas effectively reserved and unused throughout day as staff does not enforce rules. Overall a very nice experience.

Awesome Vacation!

We stayed from Feb 4th-11th and had a great time. The food was great, the beach was breathtaking and the staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome. The standard rooms could use a facelift but they are very spacious and I enjoyed that they are villas instead of complexes. The a-la-carte restaurants are not to be missed. I suggest booking online before you leave as they are popular. There was always something fun to do with the entertainment staff and the night shows were very well done. [... read more] The aqua ballet was awesome. I do wish they had karaoke but that is just a personal preference. The beach restaurant was under repair from the hurricane but should be open soon. We did the two city excursion and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see the real Cuba. We enjoyed it very much. We would definitely go back!

Wonderful Week at Melia Cayo Coco

Despite Hurricane Irma devastating this area last September, the staff have done a remarkable job at clean up, restoration and reopening this resort. Our visit was during the first week of February 2018 and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the facility was clean and tidy, the food was excellent and the nightly entertainment superb. There were also lots of fun activities you could take part in if you wished. Spanish lessons, rum tasting, beach volleyball or bicycle riding to name a few. We stayed in a lagoon room which was quiet with a scenic view. Just two small issues. 1) you can actually lock yourself out on the deck and 2) there appeared to be drain water coming from underneath our room and leaking into the lagoon. So I guess I can only give our review a 99 out of 100. The good news is we had such a good vacation that we can't wait to return next year. See you all again soon!

He had a great time!

We upgraded to the lagoon room and we loved it. We have only positive things to say about this resort. Room was spacious and clean with a nice layout and a beautiful view of the lagoon. Food was good and although you can still see the effects of the hurricane on the grounds they are working really hard to improve. One of the three a la carte restaurants was still closed but the diners to the other 2 was very good. People are very nice and friendly and they really try to make us feel welcome. Melia paradise

This was our second visit and definitely not our last to this wonderful resort. The staff here are so outgoing and friendly and make you feel at home. We had a lagoon room with a great view of sunrises and sunsets. We had a great time dancing to music played by the Band at the pool-snack bar, and the musicians entertaining at night. The attention to detail of staff in the buffet was also a highlight. When you walked in they knew what you wanted to drink and went all out making your meal enjoyable. On our last day there were so many well wishes and hugs that were so genuine. We left sad to be going home, but left feeling totally relaxed and knew we would be back. Irma might have hurt the vegetation of this resort but not the heart of the wonderful people who work here.

Melia Cayo Coco, Jan 15-22.2018

The resort is quite nice, they did a good job of recovering from the huricane. Still more work to be done (I would suggest the top windows in the lobby should be a priority). Beach: great (large, great sand, snorkeling, some nice golfs close bye..) Food: good and very good (special mention for fresh seafood) Restaurants: International is top level Drinks: generally ok (weaker selection for top brands) Entertainment: excelent $$ (live bands every day, good music, good shows...and we have see [... read more]n quite a few resorts 4 to 5 stars in the Caraibeans). Swimming pool: single one, very large, shallow, no deep end) Tennis court: only one functional, lights not yet repaired, quality but old surface. Table tennis, pool table- ok. The weakest link was ...weather, but I guess that belongs to a different "department" :-)

Great staff, average resort

We stayed in a lagoon room. The view and terrace with lounge chairs was lovely but the room wasn't anything special. Food was plentiful and not bad. The beach was long and great for walking but would have liked to see it cleaned better. The weather wasn't great, so perhaps that was part of the reason? The staff at this hotel are excellent though and really go out of their way to make you feel special. I think we were expecting a Melia to be a bit higher quality compared to other hotels in C [... read more]uba but it was just "ok". The staff are what made it great.

Melia is back

One can see the evidence of destruction that was Irma back in November. The glorious gardens have been decimated but are being replaced and replanted as we speak. Given a little time their former glory will return. Meanwhile the staff are absolutely fabulous. Everyone is smiling, helpful, cheerful and very upbeat and positive. Our accommodation was very clean and was maintained that way without a problem. Lots of hot water and clean towels. Even better second time around!!

Second time visiting the hotel within a year and, after a not so favorable vacation in Cayo Santa Maria, have fallen back in love with Cuba, in no small part to the Melia resort in Cayo Coco! We were amazed at how dedicated and industrious the Cuban people must have been to get the hotel back up in working order and re-opened after the hurricane, in such a short amount of time! Almost everything we loved from our first visit was back and in working order but, the staff 'bent over backwards' to ensure our stay was perfect and we almost didn't notice the few discrepancies. The 'jewel of Melia's crown' is their staff and was always greeted with a smile after each request and was left wanting for nothing. Everyone from the management staff to the serving staff and gardeners was always pleasant and welcoming and asked if they could help in any way, and the main reason we play to re-visit this hotel again in the very near future!

Total Peace

We stayed at Melia Cayo Coco December 6-13. There was absolutely nothing that wasn't great. The flight, the staff, the rooms, the meals and the activities were all very good. The beach is the best in Cuba. The crowd is quiet and mature and it resulted in a very peaceful holiday which was exactly what we were looking for. Of the entire week, the Tuesday evening pre-show entertainment was the best ever! The four men sang classical music equivalent to the Canadian Tenors. We did walk end to end from beyond Pullman to Blau Colonial on the other end, and there is no resort that has recovered as quickly from Hurricane Irma as Melia Cayo Coco. Amazing effort put into reconstruction. Do not hesitate to book a holiday to this resort!

Our first visit, definitely not our last

Melia Cayo Coco is absolute paradise!! It is a very short distance from the airport, however during our stay we didn't see or hear a plane! The hotel isn't new however, the excellent staff, service, cleanliness and ambiance is incomparable to any newer resorts we have been to. The grounds, pool and beach are very clean and well manicured. Our room was bright and cheerful. Our day house keeper kept our room spotless with fresh towels every day. The beach and inviting waters of the ocean are amazing! The food was an endless collection of fresh fruits, cheeses, fish, breads, meats...the list goes on and on. One could always find something new to try every meal. By far the staff was superior!! They go above and beyond. Everyone is so kind and friendly. By the middle of our weeks stay they all knew us and took time to visit with us. The service was exemplary!! My husband and I have decided that there really is no need to try other resorts in that area as the Melia has everything you could possibly want! As all good things must come to an end, as did our stay at the Melia we have decided to adopt the saying of our Cuban friends..." we are not saying goodbye, we are saying see you later!" We will definitely be going back for another vacation at the Melia Cayo Coco and highly recommend it to anyone.

the room was nice, the beach was great , more variety on the food.we would go back again for sure and even drive down to Pilar beach again! We didn't get bitten and the pool was clean. We do think people should clean the beaches more they are so beautiful

Wonderful Time at Melia!!

I loved everything about this resort. It attracted a relaxed crowd which we were looking for. The staff was incredibly warm and made us feel right at home. The beaches are fantastic. We loved our lagoon room and the wonderful view!

We love the Melia

We have been here a few times and are never disappointed. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean. The food is pretty good. And the beach is great, you can walk for miles. It has been widened now with sand from the ocean and there are some broken shells in it so be careful walking. There are enough activities to keep busy if you like or you can just lounge about. The only problem was getting loungers around the pool. It was windy when we were there this time so a lot of peopl [... read more]e stayed by the pool as opposed to the beach. They did bring in some brand new white loungers and 10 new sunbeds though. The roof on the Cuban restaurant was damaged by the wind and was out of service until repaired. They have added soccer at 5:30 daily, it is played with staff at the back tennis court so bring good running shoes. The staff are pretty good players and all young...lol. This is not a party resort, it is an older age demographic...40 and up it seems. A good spot for a relaxing vacation.

Nice Resort

Resort was okay. Really needs updating. Food was very good. Service was average, I often felt like we were bothering them. Maybe they were understaffed. Beach was spectacular, always got a shaded area. Never seen so many mosquitoes, even in the morning. People were running to their rooms to avoid them. Bring heavy duty bug spray. I got tons of bites.
