Amazing Resort

I have booked with Karlos Chareza with Trip Central 1 800-665-4981 ext 7320 Great guy. We have return to this resort 6 times. First week of Dec and the last week of Feb. Have been in many places in Cuba. We have found our home in Holguin Guardalavaca Club Amigo. The best experience is being with all of the locals. We always book the tropical seaview rooms ( second floor). We have taking lots of friends and family with us. Which all of been return guest. Have book lobsters and chicken  [... read more]dinners. For 20 CUC (includes taxie) with Rudolph ( lobby bartender, his wife works in the gift store on the resort) EXCELLENT MEALS for dinner. We love this resort and always will return.

Home away from Home

This was our third time to this resort. It feels like our home away from home. This time though things didn't go completely perfect. On the first day there went to adjust the shower head and behold it broke off in my hand. That really wasn't the issue. The problem was it took them until day 3 to replace it. Parts of the resort are under renovations and there seemed to be some things moved around. For the most part the three of us (wife and daughter) had an amazing time. You either love it or hate it.

If you are looking for a place of luxury, a room with a balcony, a lobster every day, look elsewhere and in a different price range. If you are like us, who appreciate everything close by, a terrific beach where after a few steps you are deep enough to swim, where you can swim even when the waves in Varadero are two meters high, because this beach is sheltered by the coral reef, then this is the place. There are several private restaurants around, with a beautiful view of the whole bay, where you can have a big lobster for 20CUC, much better than in the hotel restaurant.

Not as good anymore

Third and last time at this resort. It is one of the oldest resorts on the island. The standard rooms are the old Army Barracks, the main hotel is the Tropical Section. Pay the extra $$ and upgrade to the Villa or the Bungalows, you'll thank me. B een to the resort 3+ times. It was a good resort but management has changed in the past 2 years and not for the better. The Food and Rooms seem to be getting worse. The employees aren't as happy anymore (from a returning travellers point of view [... read more]) not as many workers anymore and management expecting more out of what they have. Service has gone down. The main hotel swim up bar is where most of the action takes place, downside... it gets closed often (contamination) as people sit and drink all day, without going to the bathroom... Go to the big square pool or the 24 hour pool, or the hidden gem, the bungalow pool. Best food at the resort, 24hr bar. It does have one of the best beaches and ocean sights.

Very Nice resort

Beautiful resort, NIÇE welcome, friendly workers , amazing pools ! Good music, super hot ! Lots to do , good shows good FOOD ! Would go back . We stayed AT the TROPICAL SEA VIEW ! and we did have a gorgeous view , close to everything . THANKS Kevin Dupuis for your services !

Value for the Money

The trip certainly fulfilled my expectations given that it was a 3-star hotel. _PLUSES: -very clean with pleasant cleaning staff; -food was plentiful and ranged from mediocre to good; -beach was amazing and there were several pools; -excursions were well planned and incredible, especially the catamaran trip and swimming with dolphins: -well-suited to families and seniors; MINUSES: -beds were most uncomfortable and pillows were useless and requests for more comfort were ignore [... read more]d; -entertainment was mediocre and not well-suited to teens through thirty-year olds, according to my 23 year-old grandson; -V.I.P. service at the airport in Cuba was not as good as expected; we were not given adequate information and the employee providing it was distracted; promised pre-boarding was not provided and people were pushing forward during the boarding process; -front desk staff seemed either very pleasant or very short-tempered. GENERAL: All-in-all it was a very good holiday and well worth the money! Thankyou.

Great trip

Very clean ressort.. staff very helpful and friendly from the gardener to security to maid ect...many choice for food and restaurents..we were there for a wedding organized by the resort and all was perfect her name was Elsa very nice and organize person ..I have nothing bad to say about the resort

Pleasantly surprised

We were very satisfied with our stay at Club Amigo. The staff was very friendly and professional. Our villa was nice and clean and the variety of restaurants was also nice. Good time

I reluctantly returned to this resort but was happy to see the changes made in the 2 years. Hot shower everyday, friendly staff and better drinks. Food still needs more variety! I will return someday.

Great Resort

we started our stay off in the tropical room. Pretty basic with a view of the parking lot. We upgraded to the ocean view which was much better for 5 peso. staff was friendly. Would not recommend the Italian restaurant.

Good and Bad

The beach was beautiful! The pool area was nice! The food was ok. The 2 rooms we had were awful! Although there were other buildings on the resort that looked like they maybe nicer at least on the outside. 20 % of the staff was good 40% of the staff was ok 40% of the staff were very slow and not friendly. The staff on the beach were very hesitant to help people with paddle boats and kayaks. Too many panhandlers on the beach and parts of the resorts. Parts of the resort were very well k [... read more]ept but other parts were not mowed and run down. Very little entertainment and what was there was not good quality. It was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for :)

Okay Resort

The resort was sold as 3.5 stars. It was not! The few problems I had, the staff was very cooperative. Food was what Cuba offer, but, I did not loose a pound! Coffee? Nothing like Cayo Coco or Santa Maria. I was very disappointed with coffee. Weak! They did not use good quality coffee. Beer, chips, hot dogs? They ran at least 4 times (or more) while we were there. For a resort of 20 years - they should know how much to stock. The beach? Amazing! Beach chairs? One day it was for the w [... read more]hite ones without cover no pay...the next day 2 pesos no matter which chair we picked! Drinks at the beach? You pay! Excursions? Great staff and lots of fun. Did I enjoy? Sure. Will we go back? No. For the first time it was okay. Was it what we expected for the money we paid? No. I've paid same amount last year for a 4 stars - 100% better looking and coffee. A few staff with an attitude but overall pretty good.

Awesome time at Amigo as always

Lots of good improvements been many times this time noticed lots more servers in bars.. New lobby bar is very nice. The bar staff very friendly .food was good lots of places to eat maids are wonderful..more fun entertainment around main pool cant wait to go back next year see what else is new as lots of work continuing definately our home swsu from home..travelled outside resort several times people are friendly and its very safe

Great time as always

This was our third visit to this hotel. Go with an open mind and you will enjoy. The beach is beautiful and the staff wonderful. Our villa room was always clean and the ocean view is spectacular. Met some people that have been to this resort 48 times😀

Very disappointed with this resort!

My daughter and I was placed in a room the first night that was a DUMP!! (We could not get moved to another room till the second night.)The tap in the shower wouldn't turn off, and it took staff hours to come fix it. The bed looked like it was 40 years old, the mattress was lumpy. The walls were dirty. We woke up to birds trying to get in through a hole at the side of the AC in the window. The facilities were old and dilapidated. Staff were rude and not helpful at all. I won't mention how bad the food was since I'm aware that this is common in Cuba. Don't let the affordable price for this resort sway you. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

Will be back!!

Everything you would expect from a resort in Cuba. Good food, typical room. Lots to see and do here. Great coffee. Get out and see Cuba while you are here. Lots of pools, bars and restaurants. A la carts are great.

Met expectations

The resort as advertised, a 3 star. Food was ok. Grounds were ok. Disappointments were, hard bed, felt like sleeping on a box spring. Nothing stocked in the fridge like water. Had to pay for the safe. No iron. But I guesss that’s why it is a 3 star.

Amazing people!

Club Amigo has the wonderful staff , we feel very welcomed there. All employees are friendly always a smiles , great beach, beautifully kept grounds, very safe, always something good to eat and drinks. We never had any issues at all with our room, food or drinks. We stay in villa section, view from balcony was amazing, Maria our housekeeper is wonderful person. Thank you all for a beautiful vacation!

Love this resort like home

Staff are like family there now to me now cant wait to go back in 3 months i go here to this resort every 3 months the staff meets my needs everytime please give this resort a try u will definately go back

Been to this resort 5 times and I will still go back .They are always doing improvements and there always is something to do walk to the town flea market go for dinner to the left of the beach amd over look the beautiful ocean .And best of all the Cuban poeple are so nice and its very safe in this country .

Grounds rooms and staff are all good if your looking for which areas to stay Villas would be first bungalows ocean view tropicaland last is harden view .You can upgrade but seems to be getting harder every year unless its off time .Safes and fridge come in some rooms but most you need to pay 20 canadain gets you safe for a week frigde is 1 pesco a day .
