Great Resort with a few minor issues.

Over all this is a great resort ( commenting on the Plus side, since that is where we stayed). Clean, very good service, friendly atmosphere. Food over all was good, and plentiful. Italian restaurant for fresh made thin crust pizza at lunch was our favorite. Buffets were good but like any buffet repetitive. could use so more theme nights to switch things up a bit. Snack bars were a nice treat in between meals and late night. A la carte were good too ( did lobster, Cuban and Italian) Dr [... read more]inks were good, Plus lounge with Eduardo and Adam (bartenders) were a regular stop every night for our group. Beach for us was great as we love to snorkel and great reef right off the beach with great variety of fish and sea life. yes there are a lot of rocky areas but if you walk a bit down the beach plenty of sand only entrances. Our plus side pool was amazing, never an issue for our group of 8 ( even during the holiday season Dec 26- Jan2) to get great pool chairs together for all 8. ( never once did we need to go out early and play the chair towel game) , always arrived pool side after 10 am and never a problem. Rooms were clean and AC worked well. Cleaning staff was amazing. Had issue with our toilet not flushing on arrival but they quickly fixed the issue. Water was hot for showers with very good water pressure thru out our stay. Service thru out the resort was excellent , very attentive and friendly. As for the minor issues, WiFi was slow and spotty , only available in the front lobby area at a reasonable price ( not really a big issue, you are on vacation ) Biggest issue was the condition of the public bathrooms thru out the resort. With many with non functioning toilets, no blowers/ hand towels or paper towels in any of the several we used. Plus sometimes even no toilet paper. I understand this happening outside the resort but should never be the case inside the resort grounds (especially when everything else was kept up so well.) We had a delay with our Cubana airlines on the way home , but that has nothing to do with the resort. But even with these small issues, would still recommend this place. Great time!

We loved the beach as it had lots of options for sun or shade. The food at the buffet and Cuban a la carte restaurant greatly exceeded our expectations. The staff was usually friendly and helpful. Rooms were incredible!

Love Blau

People are great! Food was good too! Buyer beware though - the rum bar is far more expensive than the shop in the lobby - difference was 14 CUC which is about $20 CDN. When we raised it there was nothing they could do. Lessons learned! Also learned that December is the hatch of sand flies/fleas which made the beach stay not so pleasant. Hadn't experienced that in January.

Swimming heaven

Very laid back homey hotel. Service oriented and friendly. Many many guests happily return. Food was exceptional this time. Both buffets and a La carte restaurants were very good with great variety. I will forgive them for covering the fish fillets with gravy! The beach is stunning. A swimmer's dream come true. Crystal clear warm water and safe too. Internet is not their strong suit. I believe it is that way all over Cuba. Overall it is a very enjoyable place with good nightly entertainment, comfortable rooms and attentive service. There are friendly unpretentious guests from all over the world. I will return yet again and look forward to it. And do bring toilet paper. It is like gold.

We had a great timeg

The beach was amazing with a great service, enough shade. A room service was good, no complaints, people are nice and friendly. The shows were sometimes very professional and sometimes not, but in general we had a great experience and definitely will go there again

Nice!

The resort was good, a bit old and not very well mantained. But the beach and the ocean was perfect and for me was the most important! The food was ok, not too much of the variety but fresh and no one got sick.

Fantastic resort

We had a few people recommend this resort and now I can too! The place is very clean, the staff are very friendly. My wife and I had booked this trip for our first vacation away without the kids. We are going to return and bring the kids next time. The resort has everything you need for either a busy, exciting vacation or a relaxing one. It is a little spread out but it makes for a good way to get some extra walking in after eating the very good food! (Gourmet being the best in my opinion) They were repainting the buildings while we were there and building a new jacuzzi too. Something to look forward to when we return! Awesome vacation.

Great food. A la Carte meals amazing. Wonderful service and friendly staff. Wide variety at Buffett. Beach is awesome and my husband went deep sea fishing and caught 140 lb Blue Marlin, so he is still pretty excited. This was our second time at this resort D we enjoyed it even more this time. Room was clean and tidy. Hope to,go again soon

Best Holiday ever

This was a great holiday took my daughter and sister there and they were amazed at how great the food was. The staff was great too . It was my sister's bday and the staff went all out to make it special. We met wonderful people and plan to return again and again this was my fourth time and it just gets better and better. I always bring different people and everyone loves it there and wants to return

Incredible vacation

The hotel was wonderful. Plenty of room to sit down and enjoy a drink or two. The grounds were well maintained and the rooms were clean and fresh. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The pools are well maintained. I ate food from the buffet and from the a la carte restaurants. I enjoyed both. If you like ketchup, I suggest you bring some! My one qualm was that some of the washrooms ran out of soap and toilet paper quicker than other washrooms found around the resort, I made sure to  [... read more]bring a roll of toilet paper from my hotel room for those just in case moments and I used hand sanitizer in the event of no soap.

Amazing experience! Can't wait to go again!

First time traveling to Holguin and was amazed the entire time there, great experience loved the location of our resort Blau costa verde, very clean, spacious, always had food available 24 hours a day. Service was amazing very friendly staff always ready to help you out. Buffet was clean and covered food was good, always something to eat, 24 hour snack bar amazing and a la carte restaurents phenomenal. Everything was max a 5-10min walk from our room. The plus pool was beautiful and much more spacious than the main pool. Also much quieter since all animations are held at the main pool or by the beach. The beach is spectacular great snorkeling area didn't even have to go on a snorkeling excursion the reef was right off our beach. Beautiful white sand, clear blue water. The only downfall to this beach would be the rocks some areas where quite rocky which is great when snorkeling but not so much for casual swimming. Luckily lots of areas with sand and since the water is clear you can navigate yourself thru the rocky paths in the water. Lots of chairs and palm huts available for everyone. The room was clean and mini fridge refilled every day with a new 1.5L fresh water and beer and cola. We where always greater with smiles and holas. Our trip was an experience I'll never forget. And for sure will be returning to this resort and recommending this resort to friends.

Nice, Quiet Resort

Stayed at the Plus section in late October. Very quiet - probably half the buildings were closed. For us (parents), it was great - no lineups, no problems finding space/shade at the beach/pool, relaxing etc. However, the two 18-year olds in our party found the animation team poor, and the disco was dead each night. The food was great at the a la cartes - best is the Italian - and fine at the buffet, if a bit lacking in variety. Nice resort

always great service plus section is in need of tlc rooms not vip had many problems with door for room 36104 called many times came to fix but still not working properly tried fixing 6 times major for person of disability. everything else ok. if price is right this resort is perfect for anybody j.p

Blau Costa Verde "Gotta Go with the Plus"

Situated in a beautiful and peaceful area, this is a beach resort which really feels part of its natural surroundings. Trees and tropical plants spill over onto the picturesque beach, sheltered by rocks, and from here you can enjoy views of a fishing village across the bay, and the mountains further inland. The waters here are great for snorkelling too. A perfect get away from it all destination. AC worked great and was welcomed relief after beach time. There was a large expanse of garden between the building and the beach margin, so not really a beach feel, but so quiet and waking up to sounds of surf and birds was the best. The grounds were exceptionally maintained and interiors immaculate. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed the 3 a la carte restaurants. Wait staff very professional and courteous. Cappuccinos and espressos were excellent, especially at the Lobby bar. Pools and beach great...service and staff efficient and friendly. The animation in the evening was very entertaining and professional, certainly not the normal level expected. Singers, dancers, musicians, magician were fantastic and we were fortunate to have incredible weather in the evenings. Having stayed in many 4 Star resorts in various parts Cuba I think The Blau Costa Verde was one the best and I cannot think of one negative experience as a guest in this beautiful resort. Much appreciation to the reception staff for fast and friendly check in and check out services and any assistance when needed. Definitely will be a place to return to.

Perfect!!!

I have stayed at this resort a few times as well as others in Cuba. This one is my preferred go to place. Beautiful rooms, great staff and always very clean. The extras (beer in room, Rum for return guests, sailing) are always appreciated too!

Amazing resort

Clean healthy food .spotless grounds and well manicured. beautifull and spoltess room everydaay .the dininig room was beautifull and on time breakfast. Lunch .dinner .& yo top it off an all night snack restaurant.!the swimming pool cleaned daily .not to mention the open bar 24 hrs.!everynight a different show from fashion .to music ect. I rated 5*****

Friendly Resort

The hotel was nice, rooms need a bit of updating. Grounds were maintained well. Staff was friendly. The stock of towels and bathroom items were not always updated. It was difficult to reach reception from rooms. The food was good! But the 24hr bar/snack bar was not 24hr for food only drinks after 9pm meal service is available. When your flight leaves late there is no option for food after 5:30 there is no food service

Peaceful garden

The hotel was accessible a step away from dining area pool bar and beach beautiful view from the room the staff hard working,humble people. The environment stress free and peaceful you forget all your stress

Great resort

Excellent !!great service .wonderful staff .very friendly and amazing food !!.I couldn't believe the incredible dishes they prepared every day three times !!loved everyday !great washrooms .rooms .dinning rooms .patios .swimming pool was incredibly clean !! I give it 5*****

Mediocre

Not very impressed. Been to better 3 stars. Beach was terrible. Rocky and literally 3 foot path to wade in along with anyone else getting in or out at the same time as you. Nice Italian bistro serves lunch, only decent food really. Buffet same everyday all day. Entertainment staff sucky, shows boring, overall blah atmosphere. Promised 5 a la carts, got 2. Apparently our agent only booked us standard not "PLUS". Would have been nice to know there was an option. Excursion was nice to hav [... read more]e been included. Wanted to rent motor bikes, displaying 12 and half were broken and not in service. Rooms and housekeeping good. Front desk staff snotty and rude at times. Overall not impressed at all. The only exception worth mentioning is Junior and Louis the Catamaran Guides...they were the best part of our day...everyday, Couldn't wait to go out for a ride in the ocean, kids has a blast with these guys and it was included. That was the only thing that we will remember as being awesome at Blau Costa Verde.
