Beautiful hotel!

This hotel was fabulous! Just enough stuff to keep you busy and if you're just wanting to relax, the staff is not pushy, they are extremely friendly and very accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and clean. The beach is gorgeous! The rooms are spacious as well as the bathrooms and kept clean as well. I would definitely stay again. Just loved it!

Nice Resort

Staff was friendly and helpful and food was very good. Bartenders could use a bit more education. Beach and pool staff were excellent. Rooms were a bit run down. Fitted sheets on the beds would be an improvement.

Great time at a great resort

We had been to this resort in 2009 so we knew the hotel, beach, etc. We did notice a bit of wear and tear in terms of the hotel grounds and rooms (for example, lights on paths to villas not all working, legs of patio chairs rusted) but nothing that affected our ability to have a great vacation! Hotel rooms were nice and spacious as we remembered, a bit musty so I might bring some kind of air freshener next time. We did have a little ant problem. There were a couple around the bathroom sink from  [... read more]the get go but then I made the mistake of emptying the rest of my fruity drink from the beach out of my travel mug into the sink. When we came back from supper, the sink was covered in ants! :( so I'd recommend rinsing any glasses, mugs, etc and the sink, and not leaving anything sweet out as I left a pack of opened mentos on the tv stand and the ants covered that as well. Other than must and the ants, we loved this resort. Great beach, pool, bars, restaurants and very friendly people! We liked to sit, drink, and listen to the live musical entertainment near the lobby at 830 then head to the show for 945. Overall, a great time!

First time but definitely not the last time

Our trip was amazing. It was a whole package ( beautiful and clean hotel, warm, friendly and fun staff, lot's of entertainment, Cuban music which makes your hips move even without realizing it, all the food to keep you full, the amazing beach and of course all the pina coladas with grenadine you can drink which was my favorite ). You and your kids can not be bored just not enough time to take advantage of it all. We will definitively do this again. I wonder why we did not do it sooner.

The resort.

I found that the people. We're very friendly and the food was very good. But found that there was a few things I noticed the door to our room was differcult to open with the card and the safe was broken but everyplace has its good and bad things.we went on one excursion and the kids enjoyed it I would go back to Cuba maybe to a different resort tho.

Wonderful vacation

The site was beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The activities were fun and easy to participate in- no long waits for anything. The towels in our room were very worn- one even had a hole in it. Otherwise, fun,relaxing, and gorgeous sceneries.

OK

Peoples are great, rooms very clean. My only negative points are; the buffet was to small, not enough choices (ex. only 1 fish, 1 chicken), and we couldn't sit in the lobby and get a Cappuccino before 8am. Beach was nice and clean.

Best trip to Cuba ever!

This was my best trip to Cuba ever! Beautiful resort not too big not to small. The Cuban people working our trip! Everybody was so nice respectful and helpful! Shout out to Yurisan and the entire pool bar crew and every single person working at this resort!! Amazing. Beach is beautiful and a bar close by is always nice. The a la carte restaurants where out of this world! Surf n turf lobster and beef.. Mmmmmmm. The buffet could have been better but there was always room for a la carte. Very safe and very very amazing country :D loved it!

Great Vacation

Resort was great although a little old and this showed in the rooms. Food selection was good although I wish they did not put pork meat in everything. Grounds and surroundings were very well maintained. Distance to the rooms not too long so that was good to walk back and forth from the reception and too far from the beach.

Nice resort

This is a nice resort. The food was very good, the grounds were well kept, the rooms were large but could use updating. The staff was great and the line-ups were small. Nice beach with lots of chairs. Pool area OK . Entertainment a little weak. Overall a nice resort and would have no problems going back here.

Nice resort horrible airline

hotel room, food, beach very nice unfortunately the airline company sponsoring the trip, sunwing, are terrible. paid for specific seats did not get them, late departure to varedero and very late departure from varedero.

Planning my return trip!

Loved this hotel! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and easy to navigate. The food was as good as you would expect and there was a lot of variety. Entertainment was fun and it wasn't difficult to find activities to do. Overall great experience!

This resort is very nice.

We have been to this resort 4 times. We really like it. The grounds have been spruced up from the last time. They are working on some of the buildings. Our room was very nice. We were close to the main area. We had a second floor. The room was cleaned every day and the towels were checked and we let them decide if they needed to be changed. The food at this place is good. They had verity of food for breakfast including, pancakes, French toast, boiled eggs etc. The normal breakfast food. At lunch we usually went to the pool bar. You can order either hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and French fries. We only ate at the buffet, there was always something to choose from. One evening they had roast beef, another pork tenderloin, turkey etc. Chicken pretty much every day. They had a station of stir fries. They had fish and sea food as well. A lot of it. They had two meals of lobster. Everyone seem to enjoy it. There was also a pasta station. The deserts were always very good. Their bread and buns were amazing. We did a trip to Veradero for the day. That was very nice. We took the tourist bus and we drove into the town. We went to flee market and the people were nice and they did not push you in buying anything if you did not want to. We had a good time talking with the people. We also bought some rum and cigars. Over all we had a good time. We love going to Cuba. We love the people. Some other people went to Havana for the day. We did not this time. We have been there two times and we enjoyed both times.

Iberostar Bed Bugs

My husband and I had gone on a holiday to Cuba to the Iberostar Playa Alameda to enjoy the blue skies, the bright hot sun and the wide beaches and warm waters. Little were we prepared for the huge problems that were waiting for us. We got a great deal on the internet thru ‘hola sun’ and were excited to going to a five-star hotel in Varadero, Cuba. However, upon arriving at the hotel, little did we realize that our problems had just begun. We could not get a room until about 3:00 pm. Even the [... read more] room that was booked for us was not available, although all the over facilities (restaurants and bar) were. When we enquired with the receptionist, all that she could explain to us was that the supervisor was not responding. Even after getting a substitute room, we were rudely awakened within an hour by one of the staff who thought the room was not yet booked. It was only then that our troubles began. The bed bugs. The bed bugs were fierce.I was the worst to suffer. On the first night itself, there were marks on both my legs, hands and body. At first we thought that they were mosquito bites, but we were sadly mistaken. The bite marks increased the next day and went on right up until the last day. Surprisingly enough, the bed bugs on my husband's bed were very few. On the fourth day, we approached the front-desk reception and explained to them the situation. We even showed them the marks on my wife’s legs. We even implored to them to change our room. All that we could get out of them was a ‘change in the bed-sheet covers’. The bites still continued. I think, they had given us one of the worst rooms – room No. 1907. Towards the end of our holiday, my wife had about 18 marks on the right leg and 15 marks on the left leg. The food was okay for the first two days. Later on, the food kept on getting repeated. It was really boring to eat the same food. The staff at the restaurant and bars were very polite and helpful. But the staff at the ‘A La Carte’ restaurants always kept looking at our hands for tips after our dinner. The food in the ‘A La Carte’ restaurants however was better, but the service was extremely slow. The entertainment department needs to fix their amplifiers. Not a word could be understood of any song that was sung. Only noise. Each night, my wife and I went back to our rooms with a throbbing headache and deaf ears. The sound systems were unnecessary loud. Towards the end of our stay, the staff in the Lobby bar and Gym started sneezing all over the place. My wife then caught the cold, and then had to be indoors most of the time. We could not even take a dip in the swimming pool. The Pool, our AC in the room and the beach however, were very inviting. The only saving grace in our vacation. I know this note is long. But think twice before you vacation at the Iberostar Playa Alameda. One of the worst restaurants in Varadero. Even our agent of Hola Sun came only once to meet with us, thereafter, he went missing. If you need to exchange your C$, it is best to do it at the hotel than at the airport. The Airport exchange rate is 1.17 whilst at Iberostar it is 1.16. We found this the most surprising incident at the hotel, since they were unaware of the difference in the rate. My husband believes that there is some form of racial profiling going on at the Hotel, but don't think there is any. I think, this should be just enough to stop even thinking of Ibersotar Playa Alameda. As for me and my husband, we have had enough of Cuba. No more.

Good hotel to stay with the family

Overall, it's a good hotel for the money you spend. It is on a smaller side and everything is close by. Rooms are decent. Food is good. Not much variety but you can always find something you'll enjoy. Entertainment was good: some nights are better, some nights are not so much :) beach is great. Plenty if lounges to choose from no matter when you decide to go to the beach. Getting to the ocean may be a bit tricky for those with reduced mobility since there are some steep sandy steps to take.
