Lovely

The staff without exception were helpful, warm, and charming.The grounds were spotless, the lobby always active and filled with music, and the coffee car is to die for. The only quibble was the a la carte restaurants that we found to be less than a satisfying dining experience. Otherwise this is a splendid resort. This was our second visit and we will return.

Good Resort

This is our second time to Holguin.. We stayed the first time at another hotel but we feel that Playa Pasquero offers more than the other. The rooms are brighter and bigger. The food is great and entertainment area was completely covered. The beach was clean and nice all the time. Maybe if the guy that offers the beach chairs will be more friendly will be best. I get it that you can tip but not NEED to tip. Overall, great resort, great people.

Lovely holiday

We were favourably impressed by this resort, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable, and was fastidiously cleaned. My only negative comment is that we did not have a coffee maker in the room due to a shortage. We enjoyed the food especially when you took advantage of reserving at the alacarte restaurants. It is a large resort and entails a lot of walking, there is a bus service if you want to wait, but we enjoyed the walks. It is a challenge to get a fabric lounge chair rather than the less comfortable plastic type. Many swimmers equipped themselves with a snorkel and mask to see the marine life which you cannot see with the naked eye. We enjoyed the evening shows in the Gibaro Theater.

Wonderful vacation

The beach was wonderful! Beautifully kept grounds with birds and many flowering trees. Rooms very basic but clean with a comfortable king size bed. Check in was a little slow due to an arrival of two buses and staff not available late in the evenings. Food in the main buffet was ok We are not fussy eaters so there was always something to eat. Great resort

This was our second visit to the PP. Food and drinks were quite good. If you like lobster you will have lots of opportunities to indulge at the a la carte restaurants.I would recommend the resort to anyone who understands that Cuba is not a foodie destination. You will get basic dishes at the buffet, and only the pickier eaters will complain. Fish, chicken, rice, pumpkin, eggplant, beans were the frequent choices. I encourage the hotel to stop using them completely. Tourists should consider buying a reusable metal straw in Canada to take with them , as well as a travel mug for drinks at the beach. We found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful and the public areas had sufficient seating for the number of people who were there in January. People reserve loungers on the beach very early ( 7:00 a.m.) , but there were always loungers available and people would share space under the trees if they showed up later. For an interesting night, walk about 10 minutes along the road to the market on Wednesday night to check out how the young locals and tourists have a party (Carnival). It starts to come alive around 8:30 and really revs up later on. Lots of music and dancing. Go and enjoy this resort. Ignore the naysayers.

Massive Resort!

We enjoyed a great taste of Cuban foods! It’s awesome how every reateraunt serves different styles/variety of foods. Beautiful weather with 30+ each day! The snack bar and swim up bar were our favourite! Definitely would come back!

Large beautiful resort

As with any all inclusive resorts there are some good and not so good,,,, first the good. , had no problem communicating with staff in English,well kept grounds ,, only heard of some problems from other guests about their rooms but they where on the 1000 and 2000 side ,,,we stayed in the 5700 building and had no problems but the decor is dated but clean,, a huge pool or should I say 2 pools separated by a bridge 1 side with swim up bar and a little more adult noise and fun ,, the other side more [... read more] shallow for the kids to play would not say it is less noisie depending on what kids are there,, and there was plenty of chairs and shade well spaced out,, Now the not so good,,,the pool deck is a little worse for wear and can be a little ruff on bear feet but not too bad,, the beach is ok but if you have water shoes I would take them,, early morning and night the sand flees are bad, and if you want a loungers in the shade you have to go early 7am or earlier to get them,,,, the food is not bad at the buffet it is not your tippacel buffet,, salads fruits cheeses and cold cut meats are there for the taking but you have to line up at the different grills for your hot food and this can take a long time as the cooks are slow and I found many of them to be some what unhappy and don't care,,,that said they where the only staff that didn't smile,, the rest of the staff bar tenders , front desk ,maids ,grounds keepers ,bell hops, even the security guys at the beach all said hello and made you feel welcome,,,, oh and it happened to me twice,, as I was standing in line for grilled food the cook looked past me to take some else's order in line behind me,,but as explained to me they are people who go there often and the cooks recognize them ,(,, not the right thing to do ),,,,the al a carte s are your tippacel resort al a carts. But can be hard to get into ,,if you can pre book before you go I recommend you do or go asap when you get to the resort,, a lot of repeat guests pre book only al a carts. And don't do the buffets,,,would I return ,,,?? Yes I would but only if the price was right. It is no longer a 5 star resort for Cuba. Only 3.5. Or4 star,, there are nicer resorts !!!

Amazing resort

First of all: very friendly and helpful staff, room are big and pretty clear, food became much much better, entertainment still really pure, and of course beach are amazing and water it so clear, that I never ever seeing in other place in the world

The Good and The Bad

This was our 4th trip to Playa Pesquero since it opened in 2003, and again we are already planning our next trip. The hotel is working hard to improve not only the facility but also customer relations. Wifi in the restaurants, New Bistros and entertainment in the main lobby at night. If you don't like foreign food then don't visit foreign countries. You're not going to get corn-fed beef! But you are going to get a wide selection of good food, but it won't be exactly like home.

Very nice resort

Staff is very friendly and beer garden food is good . Lobby bar is excellent. Cart services are friendly and helpful . Rooms are good but needs to be upgraded. Mattress needs to be upgraded . Night shows are entertaining

Our favorite place to go.

We told the food and beverage manager that we had been coming there for 14 years and every time we came back there were improvements. Ten years after Ike the grounds have rebounded and the grounds are beautiful.

Great resort.

Rooms were comfortable, very clean. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Food was good as well as the drinks. Grounds well maintained. Beach is wonderful. Would like to have improved lighting in room at bedside. Sign on a check out managed well.

Had a great time at Playa Pesquero!

Really enjoyed my week at Playa Pesquero. The room was spacious and very clean.Service from the maids, bartenders and all those working in the dining rooms make our stay enjoyable. Great variety of food and drinks available.

Resort

The resort was nice but the food was terrible and the cleaning of the rooms was terrible . Our room in one week was maybe cleaned twice . We had to beg for towels and toilet paper. The resort itself was very nice though, beautiful pool and beach.

3rd time to this resort since December 2017 and we will return again some day for sure

We really do enjoy this resort for the atmosphere that it provides and the uniqueness. We love the boulevard, to walk up and stop for a beer, have a snack, ice cream and oh the mojito bar has great fried chicken and mojito's, strawberry are the best. The a la carte's are a favorite, love the Romantico and Italian, staff are very attentive and the lobster is delicious. The main buffet is okay, you can always find something there to eat but do find the selection the same most nights. We did eat [... read more] at the grill a couple of times but arrived usually after it was picked over. The pizza place on the beach was another option and the restaurant on the beach which are okay. There are many places to eat and you will not go hungry. The first few days there were very long lineups to get into the buffet for breakfast, so we ate several times at the 24 hour snack bar, pretty good quick breakfast there. We were a little disappointed on the service we received at the gala dinner, had to ask for more water and wine, staff seemed to by pass our section completely and waited on customers they knew personally. It definitely was very crowded with so many return quests. Our 2nd a la carte and the Caribbean was also disappointing, and we enjoyed the 1st on quite a bit. Staff were not attentive and what we ordered was not the same as noted on the menu. My husband order a fruit plate he thought and they brought him seafood for the appetizer. They did bring us different appetizers but not sure why the menu says one thing and they bring you something completely different. We were very disappointed to not have our fridge stocked with complementary beer daily (always enjoyed to have a drink in the room) and the fact we could not get any on the ride to the resort from the airport. Drinks however were plentiful and always some one on the beech taking your order. We did find the beech packed more this time and if we never arrived early in the morning to get chairs they were hard to find, especially if looking for shade. Loved the beach directly in front of the restaurant better, sand nicer than on the other side. We did not spend anytime at the pool although it looks amazing we prefer the beach. Love the gardens, flowers and palm trees are plentiful. Nice view of mountains. The rooms are dated and noticed a lot more mold in our room this time. Also find there is a smell to the water but never any issues. We were on the 2nd floor in room 1623. The maid cleaned but nothing to write home about, but this is standard for most resorts. We were there for two weeks and if we wanted fresh towels there was never a problem. Sheets were changed but really sure how frequent, noticed a few stains on pillow cases and then one day the pillow case was turned inside out. Lobby bar has lots of entertainment. However when we arrived the Michael Jackson show was show for our 2nd week on the Saturday we were and then changed to the 1st week so we missed it once again. Having been there three times and we have not seen it yet, very disappointed. Bathrooms were always kept clean in the lobby and most areas that we frequented. Overall this resort is good and we have made some great memories. It is a big resort, but having been there three times since Dec of 2017 we do not find it that big, We were fortunate to be in building 16, 17 and 27. The only real complaint I have are our flights with West Jet and transfer to the airport on our way home. We were delayed going and coming home on all 4 flights. Our transfer bus was suppose to pick us up at 1030 and did not arrive until almost 1130. We could have spent sometime on the beach in the morning had we known, rather than sitting in the lobby trying to waste time. Then when checked in to come home at the airport we waited almost 1 1/2 to get our boarding passes as the computer systems were down and everything was done manually. They also would not give us our connecting boarding passes for Toronto to Halifax and we then had to get these after clearing customs in Toronto. It is very frustrating that we do not have direct flights out of Halifax all year long. At least they should maybe look at starting them in December rather than January, lots of people are starting to travel that time of year. If not they should make it easier for us with connecting flights. Having to go through the scanner in Cuba and then again in Toronto is crazy, there should be some area we can go through to eliminate this. Thanks

Great resort

The grounds are beautiful rooms always clean and everything worked well Food is good lots to choose from People are very friendly wanting to help. Only negative thing I can say is always challenge to get a beach chair and they are in terrible condition. Bring something to put on them did my back in. Also they still have the towel rule if you loose it you pay ... i had someone actually take my towel which was upsetting. Walked to the pool bar and back and was gone.

This resort is awesome!

It is our 12th time visiting and we love the friendly, happy staff. It is our home away from home. The food at the restaurants is to die for. The selection of lobster, fish, chicken and more keeps us satisfied. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to assist whenever possible.

Resort had everything you would want for a holiday

The resort was well equipped. Employees were courteous and helpful. Everything , all services were well attended. Only the beach was very crowded, and chairs were at a premium. Food was good and plentiful. Line-ups were long at lunch at the smaller venues.

Holiday

Complains about flies is bad this year and smells urine in the bar which occurs this holiday time, hope the can improve next year when we are back. Weather was amazing and the beach was just crystal clear. Enjoyed a lot swimming daily and love it.

Top Notch

I had to work a bit to be recognized as a repeat customer (haven't been here in a while) but after, everything was fine. Top Notch service at pretty much every level. Cheapo powdered orange juice in the morning is my only critic. Nelson (Lobby Bar) makes a rhum punch like no other. Someone needs to tell Sunwing to keep announcements at a minimum in flight- Geez, they get on passengers nerves. Sunwing reps on site were great, friendly and helpful. All-around great vacation!
