Great resort!

The resort was very well maintained. Our room was very clean. We were very impressed and enjoyed our stay. Overall, the food was very good and the only change I would recommend is changing out the food choices in the beach grills more frequently.

Lovely grounds, beautiful pools and stunning beach. It never feels busy, and the service is great. Lots of food options, all good, and they now offer more a la carte reservations. We've been back five times and can't seem to settle for anywhere else. The location is great for trips to Tulum, Akumal and Playa del Carmen. We will be back again.

Amazing!

Loved that I paid for one and had access to all the other resorts except palace unless we wanted to pay a little bit. I loved the variety of the buffet and all staff were very friendly. I didn't want to leave. Will recommend and come back again!

What a paradise!!!!

My daughter and myself just spent a week at the Barcelo Maya Colonial resort in Riviera Maya. This being my6th visit to same area of Mexico I would say by far the nicest resort I have experienced. The place was immaculate, the staff were helpful on any issue we came with. Anything we requested came promptly with a smile. The staff were at all times profession and although we were placed on ground level with patio doors, which I was nervous about, never did I feel unsafe there. There was so much to see and do there we never left the resort. It was also nice to see so many families and children vacationing together in large groups with so much available to keep the young ones busy. It was quiet at night but activities available for those who enjoy the night life. I would recommend this resort to any family and friend of mine.

Beautiful Resort!

The hotel grounds were pristinly kept and very clean. Beautiful gardens and beach front. The food was mediocre to good but nothing spectacular in my opinion. Staff was very friendly and overall one of the nicest resorts I have been to.

Great resort!!!!

From the moment we arrived at the resort we knew it was going to be a great week! The staff are very helpful and friendly and had us checked in very quickly and our dinner reservations made that same day. The grounds are kept immaculate with gardeners taking great care of water features, plants and trees. The rooms are very spacious and clean and stocked with beer, pop, water and chips daily. Breakfast always offered fresh omelettes at the egg station! The lunch beach grill had a good assortment of selections for lunch as well and you didn't need to leave your beach chair for long. The a la carte restaurants for dinner were amazing. We tried the steak house which was our favourite, the Italian which was very tasty as well and the Japanese which provided a show during dinner. The chef did an amazing job preparing our food in front of us. Try the surf and turf, it's delicious!! The beach was absolutely stunning. Crystal clear water where you could see the fish in knee deep water! There was never a rush to save a beach chair at all as there are plenty of them. We were never bothered by beach vendors and there is plenty of room to walk the beach daily. The pool was a bit on the chilly side however once you got in it was fine!! The swim up bar was a bit under staffed while we were there and you did have to wait a while for your drinks. We did find it faster to go into the beach grill and get served much faster in there. The one feature that I've never experience on a resort is the Dolphinarium. I got to have a close up encounter with dolphins!! They also offer a dolphin swim too. All of this is at an additional cost but worth every penny in my books! The onsite shopping is incredible, not only are there the regular resort shops, there are market vendors offering many local talents. There is also a mall that has some high end shops as well. Overall this is a wonderful resort, from the people to the rooms, to the meals, to the beach and pools!! We will definitely return to this resort the next time we visit Mexico!!

We love this Resort!

This resort is large with five properties but it doesn't feel too big. You can stay in your own area and have everything you need, or you can eat, play, swim and have fun at all the resorts. We stayed at the Colonial which is right in the middle. Rooms are well maintained and very comfortable. You don't need to bring shampoo or body wash as it's provided and plentiful. If you like [... read more] to walk on the beach you have almost 1.5 miles of sandy almost flat area to walk The buffet meals are excellent with lots of fresh fruit and a large variety of excellent quality food. We ate at five or six a la carte restaurants and our favourite was the Tokyo at the Caribe resort (Japanese Teppan meal). This was our second time at this resort and we would go back again for sure.

Lots of fun at this resort!

There were 15 of us at the resort ranging from ages 4-75 and we all had a great time! It was especially good for the 6 kids who participated in the surfing, mini golf, snorkeling, sailing, water biking, stand up boarding, scuba diving, water polo, basketball, kayaking, paddle ball,tennis, soccer and tennis as well as lots of swimming. We went to the Kyoto restaurant twice and the kids loved watching the chef prepare the food. It was delicious. On the down side, I was surprised that there were no yoga classes considering how popular that activity is. And the spa prices were way too expensive! The price for a 50 minute massage is at least twice the price it is in our home city. It is little wonder that the beautiful spa at the resort sat almost empty much of the time. Four of us were planning on going for a massage but quickly changed our minds at those prices. And the other services at the spa were very much under used because of the high costs. I am sure that many more local people could be employed if the prices were more reasonable! We had no problem with the extra charges for the surfing and the boogie boarding but the extra cost for the attached water park with the slides meant that it sat almost empty the whole week. Checking in our group was tedious especially after flying and bussing to get there. More staff at the front desk would be appreciated to get people to their rooms sooner.

Great Trip

Had a wonderful time at the resort from Feb 17-23. The service, food and accommodations were excellent. Would definitively go back in the future. Weather was great but there are some rocks near the shore.

Barcelo Maya Colonial Beach

Barcelo is an amazing resort, beautifully kept, rooms were spacious and very up-to-date. Lots to do, food was excellent. Staff and all their services were absolutely superb. Would definitely go again and would recommend to everyone!

Large but great with lobby issues

The hotel is a very large complex with lots of space and very large pool areas. There is a beautiful beach with nice sand areas in the water. Food is absolutely fantastic at the a la carte restaurants and very very good at the buffets. The service at all the restaurants and all the bars was just fantastic. It's always nice to have conversation along with good service. On the negative side. The main lobby service was very bad. No answers to any questions. No king bed and no help in getting one. [... read more] No peso exchange available so bring tipping size notes with you. We were locked out of our room and found a line of people at the lobby with the same issue. We were all told we all must have got our cards wet or oil on them. Unless oil dripped through the safe in our room the second card was shot too. The rooms at the Colonial are a bit tired. We had the classic stuff in the room. Patio door wouldn't lock properly, shower head was half shot, a couple light were broke one hanging out of the wall as just a wire and a light bulb. Overall the resort is very very nice but if you are the type that requires a luxury hotel room?Maybe this is not the place for you. If you enjoy food and the beach with a little Captain Morgan Spiced Rum tossed in and can look past the rest? You will enjoy. Check the concert listing on the resort as the shows will affect the resort very much. Quiet big place unless there is a big show that weekend.

Beautiful resort!

This was our first time at this resort and we have absolutely no complaints! The grounds, rooms, public areas etc. were all immaculate. The food was much better than we anticipated including the buffets. We would definitely consider going back.

Pretty resort

Grounds were well kept,pools and beach were excellent condition, no worry of crowds room for all.Staff was warm and helpfully. ( still can't figure out the room cleaners)All in all great Time! Night time entertainment was a PLUS very enjoyable. A la Carter were a bonus, we found the regular restaurants were quite adaquite. Our favourite was the Japanese unbelievable GOOD!The beach bars and restaurants were well staffed and the cuisine was top notch!

Best all inclusive trip yet!

I was amazed at the size of the resort. Love that you can stay at one resort and play at all of the resorts the grounds were beautiful and the food was great! Highly recommend this resort. This will definitely be at the top of our list for our next trip.

Always a nice time

This was our third visit, and once again we were mostly happy. This time, however, we weren't ready for the concerts on the "new" stage. We stayed in the building beside the main theatre, and would hear the music on our balcony like we were sitting near the stage. This is very upsetting at 12:30 am when you have children in your room. I realize the resort is looking to expand its client list, but if they don't fix this problem we'll look for another way to spend our vacation budget.

Great Family Resort

Great resort. Was large but we stuck to our section. AmaZing for the kids, great water park. Beach was beautiful, shallow entry and great for the kids. Clean property, well cleaned rooms. Justa Great trip. Would go back in the future .

Barcelo Maya Colonial - Two Weeks Fantastic

Two weeks at Barcelo Maya Colonial - January 17 - 31/2017. Fantastic holiday. Air Transat: Direct Ottawa to Cancun. Five hour delay at departure due to system malfunction. Solution - bring in another plane from Toronto to move us to Cancun. Thanks to the Air Transat Captain and crew for discovering the problem while were still on the ground. Ground Transport: Direct transfer Cancun Airport to Barcelo Maya Colonial and back. Ten passenger van. Good trip both ways. Hotel: Beautiful grou [... read more]nds and gardens. Very clean room with nice balcony overlooking a beautiful garden. Buffets: Excellent food and selection. Great service. Prompt and friendly. A la Cartes: We ate at the a la cartes ten evenings during our two week stay. Wonderful service and food. Pre and post dinner drinks. Each of these dinners would have been a $200.00 bill in Ottawa. Great value. Bars: Lots of bars over the property. Very prompt service for the most part. Beach: Beautiful beach. Lots of chairs. Wonderful white sand. Snorkelling: Great snorkelling right off beach. We have been travelling to all inclusive resorts all over the Caribbean over the last ten years. We would definitely return to the Barcelo Maya Colonial. Very enjoyable holiday.

Fabulous Holiday!!!

We just returned from a week of sun and fun at the fabulous Barceló colonial. The al la cartes were super with the exception of the Santé Fe steak house. What a disappointment . The steaks were so tough we couldn't get thru them. The service was top notch at all of the restaurants!. the resort is clean and well kept. There was so much to do, and our only regret was that we had only booked one week. We look forward to returning to this wonderful holiday resort. Gracia

What a blast!

My family and I had so much fun. My 5 year old loved the kids club and the water parks. My wife and I loved the beach and the grounds around the resort. The staff was absolutely wonderful and treated us like royalty.
