Beautiful Resort - Excellent stay.

Great vacation at this resort, the beach is beautiful, water warm, and no jellyfish this time of year. We snorkelled and saw beautiful reef and colourful fish. Staff was great, quick check in, attentive service in the restaurant, the lobby bar was busy with only 1 bartender on duty all day, but that improved the second week. Lobby bar opens at 8am for coffee, have to wait until then for a nice cappuccino, or get coffee with your breakfast in the dining room which opens at 7:30am. Nice resort BUT

The beach was beautiful. The cubans are so nice. Although, the food was like prison food in the resort, really awful, but if you leave the resort you can get really good food. The maids were terrible. I would leave them a few pesos and gifts on the bed, but they would barely clean the room, they didn't change the sheets once our whole stay, and they didn't want to bring us water OR new clean towels, until i had asked the reception for it 5 times. either than that, the resort is nice. Be careful  [... read more]because there is a new and an old section in the hotel. Take a room on the 5th floor, you will have the nicest view. I would recommend this resort , also if you want to go out, there is a place called The cave which was extremely fun.

Wonderful lush grounds

I loved my bungalow! The housekeeping was exceptional too! Overall the staff was friendly, helpful and down right just a pleasure to talk too. I fell in love with the landscaping within the villa not to mention I could see the ocean from my front door.....Just fabulous .....appsolutely fabulous!!!!!!!

Wonderful resort!

We were on the Jibacoa Villa Tropico from 12 to 19 September 2015. This 3 star resort, but the service is 5 stars! We just loved it! Everything was perfect - cleaning rooms, reception service, beach etc.. Special thanks to all the people who work there, very friendly and attentive, always ready to help. Giving cuba a break.....

We have travelled to Cuba for the last 3 years, different areas always last minute and different star ratings. Usually receiving great value and service for our dollar. We made the most of this vacation by focusing on the positive, for example the view of the mountains when your out on the ocean and a couple of the staff members who went above and beyond (thanks Vidia) however when we checked in we were not taken to our room. The beach was full of seaweeds and very rocky. That said the gardeners were maintaining the grounds daily. A lttle further along though at breezes you could snorkel and see tropical fish and the coral reef. Cuba is not known for food but this was the worst experience we've had. They didnt have scheduled shows (which we look forward to) just a singer and no daily activities at all. I am grateful I didnt pay too much....we did enjoy our outing to Havana though on the upside. So overall I would not recommend this resort especially if you have children! I cant believe the travel agent did!?

Great Value for your money

We stayed at this resort from April 18/25 to April 25/15. Food: There was not a lot of variety at this resort but we did eat was good! We had hamburgers, pizza & hot dogs at the snack bar by the pool and all were very good! Buffet had the usual fish, chicken, beef, some goat or rabbit(I did not try but heard it was good). Beach: We spent most of our time here on the beach. Beach was clean and was always being raked and cleaned by the many gardeners that work here. This is a great snorkelling area as the coral starts right off the beach and stretches across this resort! We never had an issue finding a beach chair and when we forgot a towel behind, it was turned in by security.....thanks so much Mario Torres! Staff: Very friendly and helpful staff especially the bartenders at the pool bar and lobby bar! I found the reception staff very quick to dismiss as if they didn't want to deal with anything! One blonde hair lady went as far as to complain about other staff and customers in front of several other customers.....very unprofessional and definitely a turn off. The ladies and gentlemen in the buffet worked very hard to try and keep ahead of the tables but there just doesn't seem to be enough servers. One particular server was outstanding, she was always smiling, laughing and seemed general concerned about her customers....thanks so much Soraya Villa, you made our last few days the best ever!! I would definitely return to this resort as it was a great value for the money!

Pleasant, very comfortable

villa very clean and comfortable, nice private entrance/porch to our room. cleaning staff and grounds staff very polite and friendly, front desk staff not so much. Beautiful beach, lots of chairs and shade. Food bland and repetitive, beer was great, wine was bad, dining staff excellent and attentive. Never enough toilet paper even in the lobby washrooms. Take extra!

Disappointed

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW I have been looking at this resort for some time now, and always the reviews were very good. I knew the resort was small, not many amenities, but had what seemed enough. Finally I booked this place for end of April. When we arrived it was a bit of a shock....something was not like other small resorts. Our room was not ready, no big deal. Smallest buffet we have ever seen. Ok, small place. My husband has never complained about Cuba's food like most travellers. He would try most things and enjoyed it all. This time no, not a good sign. Again cannot really judge at this point....the buffet was closing. Our room was nice, large bathroom, great air conditioning (thankful for that since we were there during an unusual heat wave HOT). Great maid service, lots of hot water, decent beds, pillows not so great. The bungalows are very nice. The vegetation in this area is absolutely beautiful, the nicest we have seen in Cuba. The pool close by was ok, nice chairs, but the pool did not seem to be very clean at least to what we were used to at other Cuban resorts, also a big disappointment for me. The beach was close.....and known here for snorkelers which were many. It just seemed though because of the heat wave, waters were not always refreshing. But no one can control the weather. (It did rain at the end of our stay which was a Godsend...relief). Drinks and bars were sufficient and tasted great...never a line up and friendly staff. Guests at this resort were also very friendly. This is so because no doubt they love this place and call it home. They know how to make the most of it here at Jibacoa. We did not. Now our son was with us and he had a great time with everyone. So as the saying goes.... you make the holiday. Back to the buffet...breakfast was decent...not much but ok...no juices of any kind...this bothered our son greatly(hangover lol). Lunch and dinner buffet was hit and miss. Not the best. We ended up eating at the Cuban al a carte....most nights (also nice we were able to).... good....nice soups, shish kebab was nice....again very warm inside making it uncomfortable. Nice servers with constant smiles. Majority of staff really appreciated their guests. Pool offered food till 5 pm...again...hamburgers/hot dogs/sandwiches (Cuban). I never ate any... some say not the best. They did make nice chips not fries...delicious. Drinks were always good. Nice BBQ once....but very hot sitting there. I personally think the heat wave took its toll on us. And being at a spot that did not offer air conditioned public areas hard to enjoy. April is supposed to be the nicest time of year for weather....but our luck wrong week. The resort let us stay in our room till our time to leave in the afternoon at no charge, a nice perk. No big entertainment but also not a big deal for us .....what they had was fun in any case. We all ended up with stomach problems which in itself is a turnoff. Would we return, probably not but that is just us....sometime timing is everything. We met many that love this place, returning guests everywhere....they see the diamond in the ruff.....we did not. We tried but ..... SO.....bad food, good drinks, nice rooms, most staff nice, guests fun, bad pool, ok beach, amenities few. It may just have been wrong timing for us. A bit disappointed.

Magical... romantic ...spectacular

An absolute paradise. The entire staff and management here are all so helpful and pleasant. The grounds are well maintained and the food keeps getting better each time we go. we love this resort and will keep going back ;)

Absolutely great

Example: What did you think about  this hotel? (grounds, public areas, rooms, dining, features, etc.)I thought for a 3 star we recieved top notch service everything was clean and food was good.Staff was very very friendly

Great snorkeling venue

Fantastic long, sandy beaches, with lots of shade under trees. Best spot around for off the beach snorkeling. Staff are great. Great bar staff. Food is normal, really good desserts and bread. Beds could be more comfortable. Might be a good idea to bring a fitted sheet.

Great time at Jibacoa

Second time here. Found the Food much better this time. Staff at Al a Carte couldn't have been more enjoyable. Went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. And Rudy the bartender as always warm and welcoming. The cost was so little to go can't imagine how anyone could complain. Loved our week at the Jibicoa!

Third time visitor.

Our third time visit to Villa Tropico or whatever it,s called this week (Cameleon)? Snorkeling was a bust this year because of the Portugese Man o'war that arrived the breezy conditions.There are few upgrades since our last visit, lighting and playground. Food still pretty basic. Bbq lunch was a highlight. Great staff, except front desk, as always. We will be back someday.

Lovely place

We stayed seven days at villas Jibacoa in an ice bungalow. Plain and used furnitures but clean. To my surprise there where bath caps,shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom. We always had plenty of hot water to shower, good air conditioning and TV with great movie stations. The grounds are beautiful,very park like, and an abandoned of singing birds,which was absolutely enjoyable, so is the double pool which are right at the beach which has trees for shade and large and beautiful. The buffet resta [... read more]urant is plain like inmost places in Cuba,but one won't be hungry. One bar at the reception and another at the pool area, but friendly and well equipped. Overall we truly enjoyed Villas Jibacoa and plan to be back next year for two weeks.

Great beach

The beach is lovely, the bungalows basic but clean, the pool fairly clean and the resort close to Havana for day or evening trips. Beds were hard, we were glad we brought extra pillows, and the food was awful except at breakfast. Glad we took some of our own - would pack more next time. Spent a lot on tips, but they improved the service.

Great resort

This resort was well kept and had a small town living feel to it. You never feel like you are crowded by people, very nice for a quiet relaxing vacation. Not a resort for the night life, just enjoy the peace and quiet and the friendly staff. The food was good, but for the really good food take a walk up the hill and find the little green house lobster supper $10.00 best deal I found. beaches were cleaned every morning and the snorkeling was a lot of fun.

Fantastic snorkeling from resort

My daughter and I spent one week here - March 9-16/15. We were very happy with this resort. Considering it is a 3 star, we were quite satisfied. We stayed in the apartment, and it was clean and spacious enough for 2 people. The beds were a little larger than twin, but not as big as double. They were comfortable enough, no pillowtop of course, but we slept fine. The staff was friendly. The food...it was ok. Nothing great but we always found something to fill us up. The pastries were good and the  [... read more]omelettes were great in the morning. Drinks were awesome. Odd that you can't get beer on tap at the lobby bar (only the pool bar). Beer is $1 at lobby bar (by the bottle). Iced coffee and chocolate monkeys are delish! We chose this resort for the snorkeling and were not disappointed. Although it was either red or yellow flag day everyday we were there, we still went in, usually in the morning and it was excellent. Unfortunately there were portuguese man-o-war there. We learned to scan the ocean occasionally to see if there were any around. We did see one man get stung during the week were there. I'm sure it's quite painful and scary. We wore wetsuits which did protect a good part of our bodies and made us feel a little better. We received 2 large water bottles in the room upon arrival - that's all you get. You have to take them to the bar to refill. We were not impressed one day when we took them to the bar and we given 2 "new" bottles of water from the back, then realized they were not new bottles, so who knows who had been drinking out of them previously. We cleaned off the top and used them anyway. My daughter went scuba diving from Breezes next door and really enjoyed it. We walked just past the gate and found an awesome guide/driver for a trip to Havana in a '51 Buick. Great Location

We had a very nice stay at the Villas Jibacoa. We chose this Hotel for three very specific reasons:the snorkeling, the hiking, and the proximity to Havana. All of these things were excellent. The snorkeling was amazing with lots of coral and some very interesting fish. The trail up the mountain behind the resort took us to a beautiful look off and led us down to a nice farm. We were able to rent a taxi and go into a Havana for a day for a very reasonable rate and had a wonderful time. The resor [... read more]t was nicely landscaped, has a nice beach, and a nice pool. The rooms were basic, clean and comfortable but the mattresses were on the thin side. The buffet was small with limited variety and the food was often warm not hot. Service was hit and miss. The A La Carte offered a very nice meal. This was our 5th trip to Cuba and we found many staff to be less friendly than other resorts.

Relaxing Place

Beautiful grounds - not over developed, very long beach with excellent snorkeling just a short swim out. Very friendly staff and good buffet. A couple of great restaurants just off the site within an easy walk. Quiet place not for those looking for a big party.

Villas Jibacoa

Had a fantastic time in Jibacoa, beautiful location and beach. Yes the rooms are dated and the food is a little bland. The rooms though are very clean and food was always plentiful. The staff were lovely as were the locals in the village.
