Memories

The resort needs a overhaul on Management. Rooms need upgrading, we found resort is to large of an area to maintain. Supplies would run out frequently. Once the US start to vacation there I hope it brings better food and accommodations. I kept saying if I had enough money to buy a resort I would make a ton of money based on service alone.

Great place, friendly people

I heard a few bad things about this hotel before booking, but went anyway. In the end, I am glad I did. The water slide was great fun for my son, the staff was extremely friendly. Wasn't crazy about the bathrooms, but I didn't go for the bathrooms

Great experience

The hotel was kept very clean and proper. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and they were always there when you needed a hand. The pools were clean and tidy, as was the beach, and the entertainment was magnificent. The only thing I could not handle was the food. I am a very picky person so I did not eat a lot of what they had there leading me to starving by the end of the week. Other than that my trip was amazing and would definitely go back to that resort again.

Beautiful resort a bit too big for older folks

Clean,-we had to fix toilet ourselves,.that was a lot of fun.Memories Varadero is a great place.Entermaint was great and for all edges.Wait staff was a bit in the Absent Mode.Housekeeping ladies and grounds people were pleasant and Pedro the gardiner made me a beautiful flour.

Great Time

Upon arrival my boyfriend and I were created by very friendly staff and handed a drink! This is our second time to Cuba and not our last, however we probably wouldn't choose this resort again. The resort was beautiful and very large, but definitely geared more towards yong families and elders. We are both in our 20s and did not see a lot of the same age group. The resort staff were absolutely amazing. The food was good, I don't like seeing reviews where people tear the food and little things apart. Its Cuba people..relax you're on vacation lol But yea always found something good to eat and of course the drinks are spectacular! Unfortunately we had some cooler days when we went this time around (jan 22-29 2016) but obviously made the most of them! The sports bar was so cool and the a la carts were awesome..especially the Japanese! We saw a lot of wedding parties and spoke to a couple I guess the price is very reasonable so that's something to keep in mind! Overall another great trip to Cuba!

Above average

Overall we think it was ok. We think there should be ropes to guide people to the food in the buffet. To many people and kids just butting in the line and didn`t like the kids without parents running all around and touching food. This was our first time to Cuba and the people were really nice. The workers at the resort were hard workers. Had some room issues that were quickly fixed. The food in the buffet was not hot mostly cool. We were in the very back building. Best bang for your buck!

Good service, beautiful beaches and friendly people . the food isn't the greatest at the lobby buffet but if you book your a la carte restaurant the foods good and off resort the food was great! I recommend the catamaran for an excursion it was amazing !

Disappointed and Disgusted

My wife and I spent a week at Memories Varadero in early January 2016. I'll start off by saying that our expectations were not very high going into the vacation, as we were warned about how Cuba is a level below other Caribbean destinations. We decided to pay the extra money to upgrade our package to the Diamond Club thinking it would improve the vacation, but it just seemed to bring on more frustration. It feels even farther when you're walking in the rain to get your room key reprogrammed for the second time that night. I believe there are over 1200 rooms on the resort. The resort is seriously understaffed to handle that many people. We rang the front desk our first day to get our safe fixed and it took over 20 minutes for someone to answer. It felt like Second, this is a not a four star resort. The food is not great. The rooms are musty. The whole resort needs an overhaul. One of the women's washrooms near the lobby was out of service the whole week we were there, and the other two were beyond disgusting. The toilets were all full with toilet paper covered with urine and feces, there was used toilet paper on the floor of the stalls. Most stalls were out of order causing long line-ups. We reported this to the Diamond Club staff, but they brushed it off and the manager of the Diamond Club went on about how they are aware of how poor the conditions of the hotel are and how they are not up to the standards of other hotels around the world.  Why don't they correct them?  Lastly, this resort lacks service. The resort staff were in not interested in providing service. I tried tipping well and seeing how that went, but there are far too many people on the resort to stand out.

You get what you pay for

The resort was really big, lots of walking because their shuttle service was really bad (only got use it on arrival and departure). The whole resort is really run down (facets were loose, bathtubs area overflowed every time taking a shower, some public washrooms were locked in common areas due to being unusable). The food was ok not great but I was able to eat at every meal with no issues. Really bad service to get extra blankets or towels had to call several times before getting them.

Bad Memories

will never return to this resort, hydro kept going off, garbage bags everywhere, live wires sticking out in the path ways, pathways were so dark had to use my cell phone, no hot water for 3 days, we were a group of 18 and we got scattered everywhere, the tennis, basketball, and pool table were always broken, we had to wait for our food at the pool restaurant for 2 hours, phones in rooms didn't work, the maid service was good until she asked to write a good review and then nothing got done in my  [... read more]room, the maids also kept coming in our rooms several times a day for no reason,paid for the diamond club for early check in and extras, waited 4 hours to check in, took 3 days to get toilet paper in room, 2 bath towels for 3 people, no replacement beach towels had to use the same one all week, it was hard to get troly carts unless you were constantly tipping the drivers

Wonderful memories :)

I could have not asked for a warmer welcome (and by that I mean from the staff). A special shout out to the 'equipo de animacion' (Sergio y Ricardo!!) Great gentlemen as well as the entire staff at the restaurant by the beach!! Made all my lunches welcoming & happy! I miss them :) To Ivan for helping my grandpa set up all our beach chairs in the morning every morning. A little tip to the front desk people - you could learn a tip or two about hospitality from the entire staff. On my last day, my flight was delayed 5 hours and they DID NOT budge to get my little brother of 6 years old a pillow. They also pretended to call the manager several times but that was lie. I can guarantee the ladies that clean the washroom (by the way super super friendly, responsive respectful and humble) would have tried harder than the ladies at the front desk and at the little desk beside reception. Too me that was the only point of poor service but also the hotels chance at a good impression. Nice rooms :) good food :) beds could be a Lil more comfy but I was OK!! Rainy Days at Memories

When we first arrived at the resort we thought it was beautiful. We were greeted with drinks and picked out all of our el a carte restaurants for the week and then settled into our room. We were close to the beach which was nice, but it rained for the majority of our trip so we dint get to enjoy it much. The buffet at the beginning was awful. Cold food and not much to choose from. We had 3 hot showers out of the 10 days we were there. on our last night they let us use a room that had hot water. We found out that they knew what buildings had hot water and what buildings didn't......making us wonder why would they put people in a building without hot water? We spoke to other guests who had moved rooms several times because of this issue along with other issues and said its not worth the hassle, every room they were moved into had the same problems. We just tried to make the best of it and dealt with having cold showers pretty much every night. Room service was ok. They didn't clean our room one day and didn't really go out of their way in terms on cleanliness. It was my first time to Cuba and I am in no hurry to go back. For me, it doesn't compare to Mexico or Dominican in regards to accommodations and service. If I were to go back to Cuba I would try another resort or somewhere other than Veradero.

Very tired property

Appears this 'used' to be a good resort, change of ownership seems to have allowed the lack of upkeep. Stains on ceiling and walls from rain damage was explained during a down pour as we were swimming in a flooded room. Nexus Tours were excellent in trying to resolve an answer to problem.. However. due to lack of hot water in bathrooms they had no rooms avail. so told us to take a taxi to the Grand Memories Hotel. The exchange office was out of service, so unable to exchange $s to CU. ... so spe [... read more]nt the day packing up and eventually moving . FYI To fill the plane Sunwing changed the return flight details 3 times..Eventually bringing the POP flight via Cuba - much to the anger of the POP passengers, and subsequently the WG 625 became the WG 685 then WG 411..we flew south to the Dominican then north to Toronto..Is making money the only goal of Sunwing? Shame on them for such a horrendous journey for so many families with young children..The very grumpy in flight crew announced only water could be served due to length of flight??? Mr. Hunter should try travelling with such a sham, and then see if the Champagne service is value?

Beautyful Hotel, clean.

It was the second time we where at this Hotel. It was the same as the second time but I have to say that the bed was terrible, we did reserve a room on the first floor and we got a romm on the third floor, that was not very nice. We had to climb 3 floor envery day and with my condition (Legs problems) it was painfull. We asked why we did not get the first floor, they say that there whas no room available???? The food was OK for Cuba. The hotel is stil clean and the personnel was very nice. As  [... read more]for the plain ride, it was excrutiating, it was a new plain and it was so smale that we could'nt move!!! Even the flight attendant was complaining about this plain behing to small!!! I will never take that plain again because even if we took the prestige Plus they did not tell us that the aisle 15 the banch does' nt bend. I was a bit mad when I can back! But I think that I am trough with cuba. The price this year was to hight for what we got, so next time I will go to Riviera Maya, at least I will get for what I pay even if it's more expensive. Amazing Staff

The grounds were well kept, the food was good, with enough choice to keep everyone satisfied. The diamond club restaurants were amazing. Japanese and Italian were great. Rooms could be upgraded with newer fixtures and mattresses, but they are trying. Beach is great!

Memories of Memories

Very clean and hospitable, the staff are friendly and courteous, the food was good and plentiful, our room was comfortable and clean, everything was what we expected including the "al a carte" and bar service.

Sub par

I was there two years ago and can't believe how it's gone down hill. The rooms were fine .The beds were not .No towels for 3 days ,lost power There are two many complaints to list. So if you want to waste your money feel free.

Not what it used to be

Our favourite resort no longer is. After going to Memories Varadero 6 times, sadly we will not return. We love the staff, with the exception of our maid service who did not clean our bathroom once during the week. The bartenders in the quiet pool are wonderful, as is the staff in the restaurant. In the year and a half since our last visit the resort, especially the rooms have really become run down with no attempt to keep things maintained or repaired. We love Cuba, but not sure which resort we will choose next time.

Tired resort

We had a great stay but the resort is tired and the rooms need some updating, cleaning and painting. We personally didn't have any problems but we heard lots of complaints from other people (no water, no hot water, no maid service, no fresh towels for 3 days) as I said we didn't have any of that trouble our maid service was great and we had hot water the entire trip. The food - we didn't go to Cuba for the food so our hopes were not to high but none of us went hungry we always found something to [... read more] eat. I found the hotel too large but the price was right and next time would pick a smaller resort. over all the family had a great trip.

For cuba is was a good resort

Highs : 1.) Great Beach 2.) Amazing Pool and water slide 3.) awesome night time shows ( best I have seen and this was my 3rd time in cuba) 4.) great range of drinks between 10-5pm Lows: 1.
