It was an AMAZING RESORT!!

SERVICE AND STAFF VERY PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY and the cabaret shows were all first class,highly recommended. Beaches beautiful... the management made every effort to serve us well and they succeeded!!!

Deceived

very nice set up....but we were very desapointed...we were there for 14 days..for 3 days we did not get the bathtowels changed..the ones that were in had a bad smell. clean beach towels were not available often .The room was fairly cleaned.There was no paper tissues(kleenex), we had to complained to get the bedshits changed. The food in general wasn't exciting,lots of varieties..lack of quality.. some of the staff were wonderfull...some were not at all..(at the bar of the grill resto.)

It was totally amazing!!!!

the grounds was very nice, well kept. The room was clean, we did run out of hot water for a day but was soon fixed once we notified front desk. This was my first trip to the south and can not wait to go back! I am still pinching myself to make sure it was real.

Disappointed

Dec 30, 2014 to Jan 6 2015 - LOVE CUBA & SANTA MARIA ISLAND! been there many times. This was my 1st disappointment. Check in took 4 hours. Very disorganized. All beverages "self serve" ! Line up at bar if you want a drink. No clean towels. 3 days no water! Closed all restaurants for New Years and opened Buffet only. Line up took 4 hours to eat!! Approached the director to explain how unhappy we were. He explained how they were just going through big changes in management because of declining cus [... read more]tomer service levels. He did send us to another resort further up beach where we were happy and service was great. So, Im sure this resort is getting a major overhaul by Management. Great Holiday in the Warmth

This was a different holiday for us because we usually do not do all inclusive, but the people at this resort make your holiday a joy. They were very attentive and happy after all of the changes they have been through lately. The scenery is stunning ,amazing sand beaches. There is a lot of activities from Yoga to crazy Bubble Dances in the pool .There are two identical sides to this huge place and if one bar was too noisy ,the other bar was perfect for sitting quietly and chatting. The food was excellent ,a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and many different dishes of meat.( Even lobster two nights in the buffet.) The rooms are big and well maintained,if anything was not working the maintenance crew was right there All the regular tours are available ,but you need to remember you are on an island and everything takes longer to get to. There is a nature reserve close by for a hike and it is just that ..take water and good hiking shoes it is a long walk to the beach in +30 weather. Many photo op pictures for the flora/fauna folks. Not a good choice. Under new management

The negatives Unfortunately the service and quality of food was subpar. We were a group of 12 travelling from Jan. 2 - 9/15. New owners had taken over and alot of things were lacking. Buffet food was cold or dried out from sitting too long. The cuts of meat were low grade, mostly bone, tough, or lots of fat. Canned fruit cocktail and pineapple rings for the first few days. Inconsistent service. Sometimes we had warm water on the tables with service staff available. Other times you had to wait at [... read more] the bar for a drink.Stick with the a-la-cartes where food was freshly prepared. Couldn't get a fresh beach towel, unless you asked front desk. The sheets weren't changed on the beds all week. Obvious linen problems. They ran out of beer by noon. More arrived by 2 or 3. The lobby washroom ran out of toilet paper and soap by 8. There were so many fixable problems that became glaring when added up. The hotel manager had only arrived 3 days previous. He did accommodate our request for an upper floor, after a 4 hour wait for the room to be cleaned. They were short staffed and overwhelmed when a new bus from the airport would arrive. The positives One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Soft, powder, white sand. The grounds were well kept and clean. We were lucky to have beautiful weather. The rooms were cleaned daily. We had a great vacation since we had met up with family members and enjoyed ourselves. Antonio at the Cuba restaurant/grill endeavored to make our stay memorable. Eat at the a-la-cartes, better service and food quality. Once this resort gets their act together, it can be a good place to go to.

Nice Resort

This resort is under new management and I found the people trying hard to make it a nice stay for all. I found the people really friendly, the food plentiful and good, really liked the expresso first thing in the morning. The rooms were comfortable and clean. If I had to complain it would be that my clothes fit a bit tighter when I left, must of been the damp hot weather that shrunk them.

New but Needs improvements

Bell boy lied about currency and took advantage of my grandmother, Ran out of beer/glasses in bar nightly, Entertainment was awful, Slow service everywhere, no French fries except last day, No beach towels/room towels/water for 2 days, basketball nets broken, no wifi/cable tv, gym wasn't open yet, pool cues and table broken, staff had no knowledge of excursions, entertainment didn't start until 10pm, no schedule of activities around the resort, poor beach access.

Nice hotel with great atmosphere

Had a great time at starfish hotel with a great atmosphere. Food was usual Cuban food, Nothing special but price made up for it. Pool area was nice and comfortable. Beach was amazing and beautiful. Only complaint was it was hard to get new clean beach towels. I would recommend this hotel.

Great Value

Very clean hotel and grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. Entertainment staff were awesome and kept things rockin' all day long. Just don't count on getting a fresh beach towel everyday. Everyone kept getting promised everyday but didn't see a fresh towel for the whole week. Besides that we had an awesome time.

Great Stay!

Had a great week at this resort. The staff were wonderful, always eager to help with a smile on there faces. Beaches are beautiful, the sand is like powder. The lobby bar had wonderful entertainment nightly, some very talented musicians and singers. There was a guy doing magic tricks also which was fun. Now the not so good...the rooms were not cleaned to my standards. The beds were made daily but sheets changed once. If you are going for the food, don't go Cuba. Al a carte was not so good but the staff tried to make them seem upscale which I appreciated. The pool area was clean and very big so not to hard to find a spot but if you want a sunny spot put your towel out early. Overall awesome week, would recommend

Beautiful Beach, Wonderful Staff

This is our third time here and we loved it. Flew Canjet this time, much nicer plane than Sunwing or Air Canada. Beach is beautiful and food is plentiful and lots of variety. (For those that complain about little things remember this is a country where people have little but they give their all to make sure we have a great experience. Enjoy the beach, the pool and stop sweating the small stuff)

Amazing unforgettable trip

Loved everything about the trip from the beach to the pool to the staff to the food :) everyone was so nice and sweet. The shows were fun and entertaining. Would go there again! Loved the pinacoladas by the way!

Excellent value for the money.

The location of the hotel is perfect. The beach is amazing, it is the best beach period. Extremely friendly staff. Facilities are not the best but it is good enough. If you like fish, meat and fresh fruits, they have the best food. We even got lobster one night. It was our second time and I will definitely come back.

Nice vacation!

Food was OK.Room very clean.I went on a Cuba since 2006.many times and on Star Fish Santa Maria room is very clean.Entertainment was very funny ,we really like show every evening.Staff are very good ,they are not looking for a tip like on the other places. I will go again for sure.

Amazing beach

Fed up of the same food by the third day! Uncooked lobster and overcooked, cold pig and chicken on for Christmas eve dinner, food on the hot table was cold, staff don't speak English, cant understand the MC at the evening entertainment programs, no facecloths, no body lotion, run out of pina colada!, water for tea not hot, could not change beach towels all week!, Sunquest rep was 30 mins late for our 10:30 AM orientation which really was a loss of a half day of our 7 day vacation, there was not  [... read more]sunquest rep last few days of our stay as he was on vacation so could not verify flight information and no-one knew anything!, you had to entertain yourself as the hotel did not organize anything during the day except for the last day when there was the Cuban day which was an attempt to create some fun. BUT the ocean and sand is breathtaking for- they were the best and made up for the shortcomings. The quality of the nightly entertaining was excellent.

We werent hhappy

Food was not good qwolity, air condition was not work well, very noisy with no control of temp. Service staff of drinking water did not supply us water every day we had to find them and ask water and one guy said "we give only one battle a day" but it was a family!

The beach is the best, the hotel is ok

Check-in went smoothly but we were put in a room that was in a section of the hotel that was closed. The room had not been used in a while and it had not been freshened up. It smelled bad and the floor was dirty. The bathroom was not very clean and there was cigarette ash on the floor. We asked to be changed immediately but we were told the resort was fully booked and we could only get another room the following day. So we had to stay in that room overnight which was a bit gross. They should hav [... read more]e sent a maid to clean. However, the following day, we got to change to another section of the hotel which was fine. The food was ok, as usual in Cuba. We always managed to find something we liked. One thing I really appreciated at this hotel was that they had entertainment in the lobby every night. I'm not a fan of the big Micheal Jackson impersonating amphitheater style shows so I appreciated the alternative offered here. Also, the pool and beach access were open in the closed section but very few people were using it so we had plenty of chairs, a pool bar and a beach almost to ourselves. I've been to Cuba over ten times and this was my fourth time in Cayo Santa Maria so I can compare and although the beach is fabulous at this resort, it's not the best hotel. But then again, this was the least amount of money we had paid so, we can't complain. You get what you pay for and this hotel is cheaper than the better ones.

Lots of Fun at Husa

My husband and I travelled to Husa in March, along with 12 others, for a wedding. While we had been to Cuba before, we had never been to Cayo Santa Maria. I can not say enough about how stunning the beach and ocean is here. The water was turquoise, the sand was white and felt like walking through flour. The ocean is shallow, you can walk out a fair distance before it gets shoulder level. Even at shoulder level you can still clearly see your feet!! The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and ver [... read more]y well kept. Lots of foliage, gardens, and flowers. The room was nice, as were all the buildings and restaurants. However, the entire resort could use a bit of maintenance. There were some ponds and fountains without water, some areas that could have handled some new paint, and the boardwalk to the beach on the Beach Side needed some repairs. None of this affected our stay though. The food was adequate. More selection would have been great. The buffet was quite large, giving the appearance of lots to choose from, but really was just the same 6-8 items repeated. The fresh prepared food had long lines, sometimes up to an hour before you got to the front to order your food. The a la cartes were delicious. The staff was great. Never had a problem with any of them. Awesome to talk to, fast service, friendly. Our favourites were Rafael at the pool bar and Aing (sp?) at the beach bar. Watch out for the polar bear shots, hahaha! My husband and I like to try and do a couple day trips when we go. Since Cayo Santa Maria is an island about 40mins away from the mainland there isn't a whole lot of excursion selection. This isnt a problem with just Husa, but all the hotels on the island. We did however do the catamaran with dolphin experience and it was awesome! I would totally rcommend it. Definitely well worth the money, and close as it all takes place 10mins from the resort. Overall, we loved the resort, and would definitely return. Experience alone I would have given a 5* rating, however due to the food and a little bit of upkeep to be done I believe a 4* is a bit more accurate.

Do not go there

The resort is good if you are about 60+ years cause there is nothing to do there the beach was amazing and that's it nothing else. The food was terrible I mean we lived on fries and chicken the whole time, the drinks where very good and the food on the beach was good as well but you know t was hot dog hamburgers I mean everybody can make some hot dogs or hamburgers. The little town was splendid had a little something almost every night we where there.
