MEMORIES CARIBE BEACH RESORT

WELL.... WE HAD NO HOT WATER AND KEPT GOING TO FRONT DESK ASKING WHEN WILL WE GET HOT WATER weather was cool and windy, water for swimming was way to cold , putting on sunscreen and bug spray daily we were pretty sticky and really needed a shower, by day 4 i beg for a room for us to have a shower as we were now smelling.. they finaly gave us another room. the whole lane of building were we were also had no hot water,,, patio door the chain bolt was barley in wall so it was an eas [... read more]y break in if some one wanted too... safe in second room didnt work, asked for umbrella was told the next day they will bring one, so we never recieved the umbrella....the hambergers we got first day on our arrival was very grisly and we just could not eat,, ,ON A GOOD NOTE the workers there were fantasticly amazing,, very friendly,,, loved enjoying time with the entertainers so friendly and fun...... waiters and waitresses could not do enough for us they were great and acomidating bar tenders were lots of fun too beaches were pretty but too cold to sit out on and not enough chairs the pool water was very cold yes its there winter there but we still got to sit by the pool and play some games.. there such bubbly and friendly people there.. we just love the cubans... nightly entertainment was awsome... the dancers were dressed properly and not 1/2 naked like other resorts ,, very tastfuly done.... the gardners extreemly friendly make us trinkets to take home from coconut leaves...... some didnt speak to good english BUT HEY..... WERE IN THERE COUNTRY... WE NEED TO SPEAK SOME SPANISH.. EVERY WORKER ON RESORT WAS FABULOUS EXCHANGE RATE WAS EXTREEMLY HIGH $1.68 CANADIAN TO $1.00 PASSO, CRAZY HIGH BRING UR OWN SPICES IF U GO,,,,,, AND SALT...................... BRING HEAVY SWEATER FOR THE COLD DAYS... .. went to the market by taxi.. was good.............. but the market not realy anything to talk about .. not much there 4 floors to walk up and down... some prices were good some were not so great telephones in the rooms dont work we were very concerned what happens if theres an emergency NO PHONE bring ur own alarm clock if u need to be up for any excursions or to catch an early flight back home if u wish to bring them gifts they really like..... back packs.... shoes.. perfumes and colognes,,,, baba's... water bottles..... stick deodarents....jewerly make up....toiletries.....clothing.....as they only get paid $20.00 a month and they work 6 full days a week they cant aford extra's...... there so very appreciative of all gifts.. THESE CUBANS ARE VERY LOVING AND CARING PEOPLE.. PLEASE BE KIND TO THEM..... THERE DOING THERE BEST WITH ALL WHAT THEY HAVE... AND DO THERE BEST TO MAKE UR STAY ENJOYABLE AND TO SEE U SMILE........ WE NEED TO SHOW THESE PEOPLE RESPECT. WE ARE IN THERE COUNTRY.. PLEASE TRY AND LEARN AT LEAST THE BASICS IN SPANISH,,, LIKE... PLEASE, THANK U... MAY I.... HELLO, WERE IS THE WASH ROOM ..........BRING A ROLL OF TOILET PAPER WHEN GOING TO CUBA.. U WILL SEE Y THIS HOTEL MAY BE GOOD FOR SOME BUT NOT EVERYONE its best for anyone who just wants quiet and very slow pace and not much to do... I WOULD CONSIDER THIS MOTEL A 3 STAR

Awesome resort!

We loved thr resort Johnny and jandy at buffet were great! Angel at beach bar was rude! Over all a great place! The sports was nice and Micheal and Edwardo served great drinks liked the Mohito!! Ocean was suberb very nice and clean matbe should have drinks delivered to people .

Beach was beautiful

Resort needs work. Out of the 7days, had hot water for 2, a trickle of hot water for 1 day and last day there was no water at all. Paid for up grade on room ( hot water not included). Thanks to a fellow guest found out there was a special promotion on a new hotel that just opened. So jumped on that. So the remainder of our holidays were great. For memories Caribe, they are working on the well needed repairs. Food was decent, Do not expect gourmet. Service was good.

Great resort!

Beach was most beautiful. Pool was nice. I enjoyed the entertainment. Room was clean and comfortable. Food was ok as well. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way all the time to make sure I was happy!

Memories made

The hotel and the grounds are beautiful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The entertainment staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was have a great time. The waiters at the buffet were wonderful and could not do enough to make sure you had everything you needed. We had a great time and would definitely return.

Had a lovely week at the Memories Caribe😊Great beach! Our room was clean, shower was hot and cute towel animals on our bed everyday when we got back to room lol. Our friends had issues with shower and toilet but was taken care of right away. Entertainment was good, especially the Retro show. The a la cartes were very good too....the restaurant nearby called "Lenny's " was a nice afternoon out, you can get there by taxi... would go again😊

Exceptional Staff

The resort was very nice. They are still recovering from the hurricane so there was some construction going on but that is understandable. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to ensure we were looked after. The entertainment staff, particularly Darita and Victor, worked very hard and were super friendly. Rafael at the buffet went above and beyond to ensure my husbamd’s birthday was amazing. There were a few bumps along the way, such as no hot water the first [... read more] two days but they fixed it as soon as they could. A shortage of clean pool towels was another flaw, but it was explained to us why and as soon as the clean towels came they were sure to let us know. No bacon at breakfast was a downfall, Canadians do love their bacon. More staff to serve drinks and at the buffet would have been a bonus. More variety in food as well would have been good. It is Cuba so you have to expect some issues with food. All in all, the food was ok, the entertainment amazing, the beach was beautiful, the pool activities were fun and our group of 18 had an exceptionally fun time.

Great trip !!!

We had a great trip and can’t say enough good about sunwing ! We were a large group and one couple had a family emergency and sunwing treated them good and Reimbursed them for the Excursion they didn’t get to go on ! The hotel staff were great Specially the entertainers!!! What I like was when something was wrong like no hot water there was an Explanation to why. In all we liked the resort

Awesome vacation

We were a group of 18 and were greeted by the entertainment staff on arrival. We very quickly made friends with the entertainment staff and they truly made our vacation. The sweetest people and so much fun! The food is typical Cuba and the lineups could sometimes be long but there was always plenty to choose. Our waiter was amazing. He treated us so well. Modest and Comfortable Friendly Staff

Cuba is a third world country with limitations in some of its food presenation and availablity. If you accept this you have no complaints. The buffet is hearty with lots of fresh local choices of fish and fruit with omlette station and grill for beef and chicken. This hotel is about the beach and the people. If you want the clearest of teal blue beaches and welcoming freindly faces I can highly recommend this hotel. The service, beach and people overturned all other (food) circumstances that are truly uncontrolable in Cuba. I felt 110% safe on the resort and in the area. I found Cuba much cleaner than Dominican or Mexico as far as roadside garbage and ocean clean up compaired to other travels. I can't say enough about the amazing staff and people, and it is of note that most are very fluet in english, moreso than I found in DR or Mexico. When I can I go back?!

Nice resort if you don't mind stairs.

The grounds,beach and staff are all very nice.The food was probably one of the best I have experienced in Cuba and the a la carte restaurants were exceptional.The nightly entertainment shows were also good. The only improvements that really need to be addressed are we paid extra for the diamond package which was supposed to include a special check in area that was not offered and they need more power carts traveling around the resort to help with walking on such a large resort. There are rough [... read more]ly 100 stairs to travel from the lobby to the beach so this resort is not designed for everyone.

Mediocre resort!

No hot water in room all week. Beach towels not available to switch out. Construction happening by pool whole week. Entertainment was good and staff very friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff great! Food variety minimal in buffet restaurant. Same thing every meal. Beach was beautiful! Getting chairs fairly easy. Don’t think we’ll go back but overall nice week.

Great value for your money

very clean resort, staff were engaging and very helpful. Beach amazing. Only draw back was pool loungers and beach loungers not enough for guests. I did not go to the pool once. Staff should reinforce their policy for not being able to reserve the loungers

Good for price

The staff at this resort is absolutely amazing; great service in all areas. The resort respected our requests when booking. No hot water for 3 days, but it was fixed afterwards. Towel service is absolutely horrible: no new towels for our entire trip, even after asking. Pool area is very limited in terms of chairs; we had to pay a gentleman to get our chairs from the beach (this is definitely a hacking system to make tips). Beach was ok but not great, very narrow, algae was not picked up until ea [... read more]rly afternoon. Chairs on beach were also staked so that we had to tip the gentleman to get a chair. Food was very good, but the same all week. Room was clean. Asian restaurant was absolutely horrible in terms of food. There was construction of a new "food" area during our stay, so construction noises all week long which really ruined the purpose of the trip.

WOW OMG

WOW! Let’s start with the arrival and check-in. It started with 3 rooms in the 1st 3 hrs. First room twin beds for a married couple, really, second one, blood splatter on the bath room wall, third one clean and liveable but little to no water pressure and no HOT water. At this point and at mid-night, we decided to deal with the issues in the morning. New day new challenges. Website list 7 restaurants on the property, only 3 were available, 2 of them à la carte and the 3rd was the buff [... read more]et. The ice cream stand, churros stand, no beach grill, and pizza, etc. were closed for repair, the season, we were not given a clear answer to why these were no open. The website also lists La Casa Del Vino, Tapas restaurant which guest services new nothing about. There was a La Casa Del Vino but it was for buying wine if you wished to have something different than the house wine with your meals. Let’s talk food. Simply put, the food was awful. I understand that things are cooked differently and have different flavours but this was just bad. As an example, there was a pasta section in the buffet restaurant. This is a safe bet, noodles, boil in hot water, a little sauce, and serve. The pasta was not edible and it was not the sauce. Pasta had a sour smell and taste. Enter 2nd full day. After numerous conversations the day before with the Sun Wing’s on-site rep, Betty, offered to relocate us to Memories Flamenco, this would better suit our expectations. Betty made several phone calls to make them aware of the difficulties we had experienced in the 1st 2 days of our holiday. Even going to the extent of speaking to the manager on duty Memories Flamenco to insure the remainder of our holiday, 12 days, would be smooth. Our 1st room was twin beds. Do to availability we did not switch rooms until the next day. The 2nd room was located in the middle of the resort, convenient to everything. We had issues with house keeping from the time we checked in. Issues ranged from towels, cleanliness, maintenance issue, etc., and a key customer service issue for me, the timeliness of theses being addressed. We consistently had to follow-up 2 or 3 times for the issues to be resolved. We did not go on holidays to be act as their facilities manager. There were 3 à la carte restaurants which you were allowed to book in advance, 3 in one week, one week at a time. Since we were there for 2 weeks we were allowed 3 bookings, 3 each week. We were not allowed to book all 6 at one time, only 3 at a time, one week at a time. Of course, these filled up and were only able to book the initial 3. This left the Beach Bar, hamburgers, fries, poutine, and cold sandwiches and the Buffet. The fruit was not fully ripe but it did have variety with the variety repeating itself after the 4th day. Oh, we did have lobster tails for Christmas Eve Dinner. It was so salty and over cooked we could not finish it. Needless to say we choose beef for New Year’s Eve. If we had not be smart and taken spices from home to mix up the meals, this would have been more of an issue. This was an all-inclusive resort. The staff expected to get a tip for everything, pouring a beer, seating us at a table, cleaning the room, replacing beach towels, etc. We found most of the staff would ignore people after a couple of days when they realized thoes people who were no tipping for every action. Quiet the presumptions in my opinion. We held our tips to the end. We tipped who we felt had provided good service. On one of the pamphlets handed to us as we arrived there was this statement “Tipping is not required to receive good service”. After our experience our suggestion to this statement is, Tipping is not required to receive good service, but it is required to receive service. We choose Cuba and the Cayo Coco region for the diving. Cuba has one of the best marine conservations in the world. The first day we were able to dive was Saturday after arriving on Tuesday. We lost 2 days of diving dealing with issues that we should not have had to deal with in the 1st place. The Cayo Coco dive centre was fantastic. Knowledgeable, friendly, and understood our advanced diving level. This was the one bright spot of our trip. Even though they were the bright spot the diving was not without it issues. There were some days the winds were too gusty to take the boat out. The dive centre would call the Sunwing rep on-site or the resort and request that we be notified there would be no diving on that day. We NEVER received and notification. In summary, the Memories Caribe and Memories Flamenco cost us 2 days of diving and 1 day dealing with administration issues (maintenance, housekeeping). The administration issues in general were always present and created an atmosphere of uneasiness and stressful environment. We took this holiday to not deal with this. Memories Flamenco never gave us the confidence that issues would be resolved or in and timely manner. One issues pilled on top of another creating a stressful holiday. I honestly could not recommend either one of these resorts. The website info incorrect/misleading, unorganized operations of resort staff, and lack of any attention to detail are some of the key factors in not recommending them. This was such a non-relaxing holiday with time wasted by the resort staff that they should refund us for the 3 days lost for dealing with their incomitances. Peaceful slice of heaven!

Spent Jan 13-20 at Memories Caribe resort and had an amazing time. Renovated room was great. Exceptionally clean room and resort. The staff at Memories Caribe all go above and beyond to make your stay fantastic. We had a few challenges with hot water, that were resolved after a few days. Beach - Spectacular! You can walk for miles. Amazing water! Food - Breakfast was awesome. We loved omelet station and fresh fruit, bread. Lunch had great options for salads. As week went on, variety was limi [... read more]ted but we always had great meals, and never went hungry. For Cuba, this resort does an amazing job in providing great meal choices. A la carte restaurants - Our favourite was Meditteranean. Loved that you could purchase wine at resort. Had some amazing wines from Chile and very affordable. Resort - Great entertainment. Loved the shows and entertainers in the piano bar. The resort is small, so we loved that is was peaceful!! Coffee Bar is a nice touch. Loved having many espresso's with the fabulous ladies that ran the Beans Cafe! We would definitely return to this resort.

Fantastic holiday

This was my second visit to Cuba- the first time staying at one of their resorts. It was amazing. The grounds are clean and spacious. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The food was great and the weather was fantastic. The beach was stunning. We are already planning our next vacation.

Great resort

The staff is amazing. So engaging and lively ! It was a pleasant stay. We got what we needed. The beach was so close and beautiful. The chefs were phenomenal and always went above and beyond. Servers were so attentive and quick to bring what you needed. Entertainment was breathtaking. Such talent is incomprehensible. Thank you meeeeeEeemories !

Enjoyable Vacation

Just returned from Memories Caribe on Jan 13th. Five of us went down to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday and all in all it was a good time and a good value for what we paid. Some negatives and some positives for sure. The bad: The resort was a little dated but they are making efforts to fix it up. Unfortunately, that meant that two of the restaurants were under construction. Our biggest complaints were the room washrooms,the bugs and not much to do after the nightly show. No matter how m [... read more]uch we covered ourselves with bug spray we all got bitten numerous times and that was really annoying. The rooms we had (which were newly renovated) had open concept washrooms. No privacy in the shower or toilet area (no doors) which made it a little uncomfortable with our son sharing our room. Food was good but a little bland in taste. The Good: The staff were fantastic and always willing to help. We didn't like our original rooms and they moved us to another area of the compound. The nightly shows were awesome. Professionally done, well choreographed and beautiful outfits. The pool entertainment staff really made our vacation though. A big shout out to Zoe and Daniella who really do their job well, engage the customers and really bring a personal touch to their work. High energy individuals and lots of fun. Zoe was even there when we departed for the airport to say her final good byes. What a nice touch! Would certainly return if I could figure out how to keep the bugs away.

Awesome trip

We really enjoyed ourselves, read all the reviews, went prepared for all the bad things and encountered none of them! Beach was amazing, staff was friendly, food was good (go to the grilling stations), beer was good, room was clean. Actually I have two complaints, no door on the bathroom...really? A little privacy is nice, I would take a shower curtain and a extending bar next time. Second complaint is with people complaining...what do you expect in Cuba...5 Star Canadian resort?
