Grand Aston Varadero Beach Resort: Resort was pretty
The food was terrible. What you had for lunch you get for dinner.
No onions, tomatoes, lettuce, or bananas. Lots of delicious bread ! You had to ask for salt. Better to take your own salt, peanut butter ect.
I know there is a food shortage for them but this is the worst we ever had.

Blau Varadero: Good resort
Hotel grounds are beautiful, really nice resort.
Lobby bar needs more help , they are not fast and don't care even if u tip them well.
They do not want to take there own currency, always asking for US dollars, then if u don't have a nice crispy US bill they won't take it.
Air conditioner needs to be cleaned filters etc, that might stop the mold and bad smell in the rooms .
Over all yes good place

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Quiet resort
The speciality dinners were great. Resort was very quiet, might be time of year-October. Food was okay. Only disappointing thing was the drinks, not much variety, basically just rum. We never received any replacement bathroom towels all week even though we asked for them everyday. Even the rum drinks were not great. Staff very friendly.

Memories Jibacoa: Absolutely amazing
I just returned from a fantastic and rejuvenating getaway at Memories Jibacoa. This resort checked off everything I wanted for my solo trip. The location is absolutely picture-perfect — a stunning, clean beach framed by beautiful mountain views. The coral reef right off the shore is incredible for snorkeling!
The staff are truly wonderful — friendly, attentive, and hardworking. They go above and beyond to make sure you’re enjoying your vacation. There were no shortages of food or power during[... read more] my stay, and the meals were fresh and satisfying.
If you’ve done your research on Cuba, your expectations will be exceeded here. The rooms are clean and well-maintained with everything you need. Some may find them a bit dated, but I found them comfortable and perfectly adequate.
I felt completely safe during my stay and met so many lovely people from all over the world — a great mix of ages, mostly 30+. This resort has such a warm, welcoming vibe.
I would definitely return to this hidden gem — it’s the perfect spot to relax, recharge, and enjoy authentic Cuban hospitality!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: 2 star at best
I don’t think I can even describe in words how awful this hotel was and the experience we had. Upon arrival to the hotel we checked in and started heading to our room, to find our entire hallway leading to the room was completely flooded and the power was out. It was pitch black as it was around 9:30pm, so clearly walking through a flooded pitch black hallway was a safety hazard. We turn right around and went back to the desk to inform them of the hazard, because there’s no way they would’ve kno[... read more]wn about the flood and power being out, especially since there were no wet floor signs. When we informed them, they were completely aware, and were taking no precautions to rectify the hazard. What’s more, we asked to switch rooms as of course we didn’t want to drag all of our luggage through the flood and get ourselves and our belongings wet AND risk slipping and falling all the way down the hallway. To which the resorts staff said there were no more rooms available. This was insanely shocking as the resort was basically empty. For a resort with over 800 rooms, it was absolutely physically impossible for the resort to be full. There was no one there. No one at the bars. No one walking around. We literally saw a total of 10 people the whole time we were there. Not over 800 people. At this point, we’re already livid. Nothing is being done to accommodate us, nothing being done to protect us and provide us safety, the only thing they managed was to get SOME of the power on. Not even all of it, dark and flooded hallways were all over the place with no warning signs anywhere. So thinking it couldn’t get any worse, we went back to our room, went in, and couldn’t believe our eyes. KEEP IN MIND, this is supposed to be a 4.5 star resort. This room was the definition of disgusting and scary. The immediate feeling I had was “I need to go home right now, I can’t be here another second”. Every piece of furniture was torn and completely covered in disgusting, mysterious stains. The curtains were torn, stains on the pillows, surfaces covered in dirt and grime. The AC didn’t work. The sink was cracked, filthy and MOLDY. There were no bathroom amenities (which the TripCentral listing said there would be) besides one bar of soap - no shampoo or conditioner, and the bottles were broken and falling off the wall. There were HAIRBALLS. HAIRBALLS, plastered to the bathroom door and the floor. I literally cried. I couldn’t believe I had just spent a 2 thousand dollars on this atrocious terrifying horror movie-esque room and resort. FURTHERMORE, this room was listed as an UPGRADED ROOM in the TripCentral ad, as we booked the Star Relax room. Nothing about this room was even CLOSE to an upgrade. Another lie on the listing. We immediately started to try to contact Sunwing. No phone numbers worked so I submitted an online request for a king room to see how fast it would take for them to respond. We finally gave up and realized we would have to stay in that disgusting room for one night before we can get the heck out of Cuba. It was so sad to know that this was my first experience in Cuba, and it’s already being ruined. We decide to go get some food as we were starving after a full day of traveling. We ask reception where the 24 hour snack bar is, to which they said “No food until 11pm”. I couldn’t believe it. The TripCentral and SunWing ads both listed a 24 hour snack bar, which was ANOTHER complete lie. We specifically chose a resort with a 24 hour snack bar so we could have access at any time to food, and it didn’t even exist. It was one of our requirements while trying to choose a resort. We then sat in our room, starving, until 11pm. Finally the time came and we went to find the snack bar. They sent us down to the buffet, and it still makes me sick to my stomach the scent of the food they had. Just 2 trays of gloopy, sloppy, smelly pasta, and a bun with what appeared to be a variety of mystery slop meats, and a small amount of sushi. It smelt disgusting, was insanely appalling, just straight up gross. I know the food in Cuba is bad. I’m not completely unaware of the situation there. But to list yourself as a 4.5 star resort, and provide THAT, to your guests???? Absolutely unacceptable. We forced ourselves to go to bed in hopes of getting out of there as soon as we could in the morning. Next morning we went down to the sunwing rep, who was expecting us because of the online request I put in for a room change. After everything we experienced from the lack of any customer service (no option to switch rooms and no concern to clear or block off the flooded hallway which was an insane safety hazard), we immediately requested to get switched from Iberostar Laguna Azul to a different resort, any other resort but there. Tatiana was very helpful. We explained everything I just did above, and she said it was unacceptable and was very sorry for our experience thus far. She also confirmed that the hotel was NOT booked up, and they absolutely could have switched us to a different room. She asked for 2 hours for a gentleman named Andy to attempt to complete the resort switch. So we came back after 2 hours and were able to be transferred to Bella Vista. Out of this whole experience, it is factual that the TripCentral listing is a lie. We booked what you said would be an upgraded room, it wasn’t. You said the hotel had a 24 hour snack bar, it didn’t. You said it was a 4.5 star hotel, it was FAR from it. Everything was a lie, even the staff lying to us about having no rooms available. I can’t believe you can even list a hotel like that where the rooms are so so so dirty and uninhabitable, and MOLDY. Someone needs to go to these resorts, check the rooms and the food periodically, and ENSURE the listings you put up are accurate, and ensure the star rating they have is still accurate. I’m unbelievably disappointed in TripCentral, in SunWing (as their listing also lied although they helped us switch resorts so I am thankful for that), and the resort itself and its miserable unhelpful staff. From this experience, I would never recommend people go to that resort, or use TripCentral due to its lies, and will never recommend Cuba for vacation. Could not be more disappointed in a vacation that was supposed to be restful and relaxing, and ended up being a stressful, gross, and miserable experience. Only thing I’m happy about is being home.

Melia Varadero: Wonderful resort
Everything was great. Keeping in mind this is Cuba, we couldn’t have asked for more. Resort staff were all amazing, Gilberto was extremely helpful from the moment we arrived. Ended up being upgraded to a room on the Level because of maintenance issues in our original room. No complaints at all. Pool and beach are nice and close so you can switch from pool to ocean all day. Will be returning!

"I am truly surprised with this hotel, especially the kindness of the staff and how well-maintained the 'Blu' side is. It's a good place to relax, and walking to the beach is great exercise. Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Not bad place
So first off. The picture shown here does not exist. There is no island in the pool. That is a diff resort. Went from Oct 6 to 13. No one there. we were only people in building 13. The place is very pretty. The beach is divine and the pool great. Its not a ton of walking to get to places like lobby, restaurant or beach. But here are the negatives for me. The room was very disappointing. Very dated. No mini bar, no coffee maker, TV didnt work until reported 3 times, no water bottle in room for 3 [... read more]days, mo where to unpack clothes so lived in suitcase for a week. Was a nuisance to get dressed and walk to the bar to get coffee to bring back to room. The drinks are not good. The pop was always flat and no diet coke. Only had a few coctails but seemed like made with koolaide. They were awful. No maragritas. Fortunately I brought my own orange juice juice boxes and 6 pack diet coke. I wanted cold fizzy coke in my rum and coke and when bought a can was $4USD each. Sheets not changed all week which was OK. Always carry pack kleenex as none of the bathrooms had toilet paper except the room. The food was not good. Same every day. Bland spaghetti with tasteless tomatoe sauce. Some canned pea salads. Just basic bottom line stuff. Gave up on omelets for breakfast . Usually had no cheese. Only fillings were corn, vegetables of some sort, icky ham and white tasteless cheese. We stuck to fried eggs and toast. Had mashed potatoes which were good and lots sweet potatoe but found lots stuff reheated next day so was stale. So don't expect a nice buffet like in mexico or Dominican because its not happening. Could only get in to Caribbean restaurant on last night even tho place empty. Only 1 other couple there. Food was shredded beef with rice. Was ok. At least better than buffet but didnt seem Caribbean. Staff is lovely. I gave a way 2 suitcases of food and gifts so got great service. They prefer American to Cdn. dollars. Bring bug repellent. Bad mosquitos at night. Very little entertainmment. Some music outside lobby couple times. Lots music during day. No bar on beach or beach waiter service. You have to go up the walkway to a bar in that area. Theres a bar by the pool but as said the drinks not great. There were catamarans to go out on but not in service for like 4 days. We both got sick guts and lived on immodium and pepto bismal. On the whole the place looks great but I prefer a nicer room with amenities and good food and drinks so wont be returning. We met several people who were repeat customers who said they would not return as gone downhill. Quality. A friend recommended this place as shes been there 10 times but obviously she has not experienced higher quality resorts and went with 10 people so built in party. Depends what your looking for. Dont look for good food. Not happening. A bottle of water is $4USD. Also had trouble with a taxi driver. We wanted pizza cause so sick of food and told him where we wanted to go but he took us to a friends restaurant in middle nowhere and ended up costing us $25USD for small pizza with 1 topping. We have him heck and told him we asked him to take us to a diff place but he said this better. Cost us triple plus cab ride. So angry about that. Cab was ordered by front desk of hotel.Hotel is a long way from airport. About 45 minutes to an hour. Best part of this place is the beach. I wont be returning here tho. Rooms are musty altho have a/c.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Great place
This was a small resort but it was great. All the staff were very friendly.
Everyone knows that you don’t go to Cuba for the food but the buffet always had good stuff to eat and the bread and deserts were amazing. We tried the aroma restaurants and it was pretty tasty. And if you aren’t satisfied with the food on the resort just go out the front door and find a restaurant. We tried a few along the strip and didn’t have a bad meal.

Blau Varadero: Blau Varadero - Amazing Beach!
Overall, I did enjoy my stay at this resort. This is a 20 year old resort that has been very well maintained. There are a few areas that need fixing up, but overall its still really nice. Great, comfortable beds. AC, water pressure, hot water, all very good. This is also a very lively resort. Shows every night and a "disco" at the beach bar with a dj. I found the staff here very, very good. Everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to help you any way they could. The absol[... read more]ute best thing about this resort is the beach. Absolutely breathtaking. Having a bar right on the beach is a major plus as well. Obviously, being the off season, food was lacking and I am not sure if the lack of quality of food is due to being low season or whether it is just the state of Cuba at the moment, but the food was my only disappointment.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Budget resort in a good location
I have been to Cuba many times, this is a good resort for the budget minded and nothing more. Check in is at 4pm and check out is 1pm, which had me waiting all day for a room, very very annoying and inconvenient. The room safe was broken (batteries most likely needed replacing), I asked twice for reception to send someone to fix it, they said I had to sit and wait for someone to fix it, I gave up.
The room and bed was decent and relatively clean, but the cleaners will do the bare minimum if y[... read more]ou dont leave a tip for them. I forgot to leave a tip, because unlike other resorts, they clean your room at any random time so I didnt know when to leave a tip.
The ladies working the main bar by reception were great, I always tip and they gave good service. The men working the bar had an attitude, and making a coffee that was drinkable was a challenge for them. If you cant make a proper coffee, you should go find something else to do, especially if im leaving tips. My biggest concern was the smell of rotten milk coming from the main bar, which lasted for 2-3 days. Clean your bar, the smell of rotting milk is something we dont want to smell every morning.
I only ate at the main buffet dining room, and was very selective on what I ate. The bread was excellent, everything else was ok. If you want to eat good food and not get sick, the main Varadero strip is where you should be eating. This is a budget resort, dont expect quality food.
The Cubans staying and working at the resort were mostly welcoming and cheery, the tattoo slathered French-Canadian whales, not so much. Being surrounded by low class low budget drunks who yell expletives is what to expect.
The beach is as nice as any other resort in Varadero, to sum it up, an excellent price for what you get, but this is what you get.

Sol Caribe Beach: ?????
Once again we were very impressed with everything and everyone at the Sol Caribe Beach Varadero. Before even arriving Yolanda and her team (Ismary, Laritza, Annie, Grisel) had everything ready for our arrival...early check in, our 3 rooms close to each other and a la carte reservations made. Yolanda has made every stay at this hotel a memorable one and goes above and beyond for us, she truly is the BEST!
The reception staff welcome you with genuine smiles and warmth. Check-in was smooth and[... read more] efficient, even though we arrived earlier than the standard time, our rooms were ready and we were able to start enjoying everything right away. A special thank you to Lily who got us checked in quickly so that we could start enjoying everything about this great hotel right away. She went out of their way to make us feel back at home.
The animation team is phenomenal. Their energy is infectious from morning until evening. Whether it was yoga on the beach, aqua aerobics, beach volleyball, sports in the pool and dancing by the pool they managed to engage guests of all ages without being intrusive. Nights brought even more magic, talented shows, live music, themed events that were fun but never forced. They clearly care about what they do, and it shows. Special thank you to Candy, Yansey, Jonathan and DJ Jose the time you spent with us will not be forgotten.
Bar staff deserve a standing ovation. We started every morning with a delicious iced latte made by Adel or Yoslady at coffee corner, best start to your day and always made with special touch and smile. Han and Yoilan took care of us everyday at the pool and Addier and Otto at the beach bar. They always remembered what we liked to drink and didn't let our cups go empty. Drinks were always served with a smile, and quick service so you never have to wait long. Snack Bar is a great stop for lunch or a snack if you didn't want to go to the buffet, offering ham and cheese, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and fries Julio, Greter and Janet were great and remembered what we liked.
The grounds are immaculate. Lush landscaping, manicured flower beds, and plenty of shady spots to enjoy the view. The pools sparkle and are cleaned daily. Common areas smell fresh. Rooms are spotless—cleaned every day, with fresh linens, towels, and thoughtful attention to detail.
Without hesitation I will return the Sol Caribe Beach Varadero this is a 5 star hotel/service in my opinion. I can't wait to return for another great experience

Sol Palmeras: Fantastic Resort
Just returned from my 3rd trip to my second home, Sol Palmeras. As always a pleasure to return. Staff was welcoming when checking in. Lobby had more areas to relax while enjoying entertainment in the evening. Amazing various singers and musicians. Night time shows have been refreshed and also amazing. You can see the dedication by the performers. Enjoyed daytime entertainment at the beach and at the pool. Stayed in the bungalows as usual and everything was clean and bed’s comfortable.
The grou[... read more]nds are constantly maintained and the new bar area off of the beach was a great addition. Great place to have a drink in the evening and converse with friends.
Buffet had various options during all meals. Chicken, beef and various seafood available. Fabulous soups available each day. Enjoyed a lunch at the snack bar, chicken sandwich with fries. Ala-cart Chinese and Tex Mex were also enjoyed. Only attended those two as we were happy with the buffet and didn’t want to have to go for dinner at a certain time as we were enjoying ourselves at the pool and beach.
For myself the best part was seeing and spending time together with all of great friends (family) made with the staff throughout the year. ( Odarmis, Mario, Caridad, Julio, yahimy, Idelmis and many more) I surprised them with this visit, as I usually don’t come there in September. All showed me that the love we have is both ways. Can’t wait to return in November!
