Awesome

We were so happy with our stay at the Muthu Imperial. Great staff! Rooms were clean and tidy! The beach still needs some improvements but that will come with a little time but there was shade and lots of chairs. Poolside was spacious and also had lots of chairs. Food was not bad and no lineups, but that will probably change when the place gets busier. Looking forward to going back!

Outstanding Resort for its early beginning

The Gran Muthu Imperial is the newest of the Muthu resorts (as I understand it), so new, that my partner and I were leery of going but for the amazing discount. It was well worth it. Location: Great location on Cayo Guillermo, relatively close to the Cayo Coco airport, only an hour or so away. The bed w [... read more]as very comfortable, the sheets smooth and clean. The bathroom was excellent, with a large, comfortable rain/wand shower. The lighting was great. The HVAC control was easy to use and very effective. The angle from the side balcony still afforded excellent views of the ocean. Staff: Very friendly. Excellent use of English. Enthusiastic and courteous, they routinely went out of their way to make our stay memorable. From the maintenance personnel, up to the managers, everyone greeted us with a smile. The cleaning staff were attentive, we never wanted for anything. Food: Very good food. Several stations to enjoy at the buffet restaurant, in addition to several sit-sown restaurants that catered to a variety of diets and preferences. My partner had no trouble with gluten free options. I cannot comment on the drinks as I don't partake much. Though my partner found their willingness to experiment with different concoctions was dependent on the person serving and how busy they were. Pools: Clean, expansive and highly enjoyable. The only thing is that the surface texture of the pool tiles varied, so one had to be aware of whether they were slick or gritty. Unfortunately the lounge chair cushions had ties that tore off all too easily. Entertainment: Highly enjoyable. The daytime activities varied between dance lessons, amusing games, exercise and pool games. Sadly the weather wasn't entirely cooperative, with cool temperatures and very high winds, keeping most people grounded on their chairs. The evening shows were quite entertaining. The dancers were clearly committed to their craft, giving a more than appropriate level of emotional content to their routines. Beach: I am leaving this for last because for the most part, we didn't make use of it. As previous reviews mentioned, the beach was incomplete. While I found it more than adequate, I am used to swimming off rocks etc. Others, used to a more polished product would find it lacking. The main drawback to the beach was the tremendous degree of litter along the shoreline. That will absolutely need to be addressed. Overall I would definitely go back if I was of the temperament to re-visit the same locale on subsequent trips.

Beautiful resort

We stayed here for a week the last week of March, very quiet relaxing resort. The resort is new and will be beautiful when there gardens grow. Food was good, service good and beautiful pools. Will go back for sure.

Great vacation and resort

The hotel was great. Everything (lobby, rooms, and grounds) were clean and maintained. The staff were friendly and the service was great. The buffet had a good selection for breakfast and dinner. We had a fabulous time.

Exceeded expectations

exceptional new resort. we were a bit concerned after reading online reviews of "room to improve" but we were delighted by the service , staff friendliness, impeccable rooms and good food. Each day they seemed to "up their game" with new improvements such as fresh flowers in main areas, more reception and animation staff, top shelf drinks, observing kitchen and dining flow. The beach is the ONLY positive

Nothing more to say than if the beach was not as beautiful as it was the trip would be a complete disaster. Check in is a forced entire group waiting room in which they take all passports and make you wait for an enterinty. No bread, 20 buffet stations and the majority was a variation of hotdogs, to many people and too few staff to handle the load. Room had mould in the bathroom, no towels for the first 4 days...they would tell you machines are broken so they didn’t have to make the drinks.. l [... read more]isten we lost 3 pounds on the vacation and we do 4 to 5 a year, at least 2 of them in Cuba so i know good resorts and bad in Cuba. This will be the first time I will ever say that even if it’s cheap, don’t bite, it’s not worth it even for the little money you spend which should have be our indicator of the eventual outcome of the vacation.

Suppose to be adult only!!!

My husband and I recently returned from the Gran Muthu Imperial Cayo Coco. We were there to celebrate a nice relaxing 39th wedding anniversary. The hotel is a beautiful resort. The facilities are top notch super clean, the staff so friendly and going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It was definitely a five star resort for the first two days of our stay. The service plummeted, the staff became overwhelmed, and the students took over the entire resort! It was on that day the we began talking with our Transat representative, Danielle. We explained to Danielle, that this is an adult only resort, and that these kids should not be here. Danielle said that in Cuba the age for an adult is 16! We then explained that on the Transat website the adult age for this hotel is 18+. Danielle said she would look into it and that we could get back to her the next day. The next day Danielle told us that she submitted a claim to Transat voicing our concerns and that we should look into it once we get back home. Danielle was unable to give us a copy of what she sent to you saying it was not allowed. We spent a lot of our time going to see Danielle almost everyday to update her on what was happening with these kids and what they were up to. The hotel did offer us and upgrade to a nicer room, but what would that have given us? The room we had was beautiful (8112)! It was not the room that was the problem it was the toxic environment that the hotel created! I will now highlight some of what we experience over the next week while they were there. Talked to two girls at the pool, they confirmed that they were only 16, they were traveling with there sisters who were the graduates. They stayed up all night partying, screaming and yelling! Where was security? They puked in the flower beds & on the pool deck. You had to watch where you walked until the staff had enough time to clean it up. One student puked in the theatre at night. He passed out and they had to drag him out. They loaded him head first into the back of a tricycle that had a box on the back. They took him to the clinic where apparently they gave him intervenise! On another day, a girl on the beach was so drunk should could hardly get out of the water. Her friends (if you could call them that) helped her to a chair that was in the sun, took pictures of her and laughed at her for the rest of the day. Another day they used one of the brand new side tables that were provided at the beach to dig in the sand to make holes and we did not stay to see what for! A-la-Carte restaurants are semi formal. One night my husband and I were enjoying a nice dinner when four girls walk in. Three of them were wearing tank tops and cut off shorts, the other a bath towel over her bathing suit.....Yes I did say a bath towel! I went to the front lobby to ask what the dress code was, they responded by saying that I looked nice...I told them about the girls and they sent customer service. 10 minutes after I arrived back at the restaurant customer service did arrive. They talked to the girl in the towel, and then left. The girls all started laughing once they were alone. None of them left the restaurant to go and change. We talked to another couple after that evening and they said that the same thing happened to them on another evening. Enjoyed go to the lobby bar each evening, as they played beautiful music and couples would dance and enjoy the atmosphere. Once the kids got there forget that. They would try to sing the words as a group and jumped all around trying to dance. It just became a loud and annoying place to be! They upgraded a couple that we meet to give them a better spot, only to find out that they now had them in the rooms above, below and on either sides. The kids loved to party on their balconies, I don't think I need to say more about that. To add to our ordeal, which we do not blame anybody; On our last day we got our wake up call at 5.30 a.m., got up no electricity and water. My husband when to the front desk and they were aware. He had to almost beg for them to lend him a flashlight so we could finish packing. We also could not get coffee and breakfast before leaving for the airport. In closing I want to express again how beautiful the hotel and staff were on our first days there. They did a wonderful job with the design of the hotel, and this is a place I would definitely return to if it was truly adults only. However as explained above this was suppose to be a relaxing, quiet, romantic 39th wedding anniversary. It turned out to be something quit the opposite from what we specifically asked for. We paid extra money to upgrade to an adult only resort, and did not get what we paid for. My star ratings below are based on our first two days there.

Lovely and (too) new resort

Being a new resort the building/rooms are fresh and in great condition. Grounds need a few years to be referred to as lush. Everything was almost new condition. Staff were very friendly and most were learning and many trying hard to please. Management was in general very solemn and underwhelming. Beach was a disappointment. Too far away and needed work. Pools were lovely. Lots of comfortable loungers as well as umbrellas and palapas. Food was iffy and wine was just ok. Beds were comfy an [... read more]d had body pillows. Aircon worked well. We were fortunate to miss the bug bites. Not so with others.

Amazing Resort!

The resort is brand new, from the infinity pool with ocean view to the food and the staff, we where 100% satisfied. We highly recommend the Gran Muthu Imperial ! The drinks are high quality and the best cappuccino is the best.

First time to Cuba

We stayed at Gran Muthu Imperial Feb 23 – March 3 We had a great stay, our room was in excellent shape, clean and comfortable. Room service was excellent, no problems at all. There were no facecloths, but heard they were getting some in. (next time I’d pack one just in case). Also remember to bring converters. 220 V. There seemed to be fewer guests than staff, so service everywhere was optimal. The buffet restaurant had a huge selection of food, we didn’t even bother with a la carte. Also the snack bar is 24 hr, so always there’s food available. If you are love your ketchup, you might want to pack a bottle – it is scarce here. Also, same with pepper. The bars were plentiful and the mojitos are perfect. (I would vote sports bar as best, but they are all good). We were awed by the quality of the entertainment. The lobby bar has professional singers, piano players until 9pm, the buffet often has a mariachi band playing and the nightly entertainment promises something for everyone. Our favourite was the cover band that played Lynyrd Skynrd, ACDC, 4 NonBlondes, etc. What a surprise! We only did one excursion to Moron, and it was worth every penny. (Sensational Trip) and definitely spend at least one day at Playa Pilar beach – you will be amazed at the beauty.

Gran Muthu Imperia- Cayo Coco

One of the worst beach I ever seen, the hotel is empty only 35-40 people on the hotel. The food is very little and limited and same food every day, this is not a 5 star hotel, please don't spend your hard money to come here at Muthu Imperial because you will be very disappointed.
