Occidental Caribe: Not bad
People are nice but the rooms are in need of some updates, food was ok. We often waited for drinks even though we tipped. We tipped everyone including the maids but we never got enough towels for the 4 of us. The towel bar by the pool required several trips a day to actually get towels as they were often out of them

Occidental Punta Cana: the good and the terrible
Start with the good: the beach is absolutely beautiful. There is very little shade though and lots of vendors every day
3 pools. Loved them all... loungers in the pools and shade from cabanas. Pool bar was great too.
Food was good. Definitely make sure you go to the all night pizza bar and also grab some late night tacos.
The rooms are all right. Ask for a renovated room - I only heard complaints from anyone who was in the older rooms.
Service - a la carte services were great besides the Me[... read more]xican restaurant. When we arrived we were told the hotel was overbooked and there was no room left, so we were sent to another resort around 3am. Eventually we could return to Occidental. The front desk were argumentative ... though it also seems most people were there to complain about rooms or problems not being fixed. Also watch your beach towels. Housekeeping took ours one night and we nearly had to pay $20 a towel because the people at the towel exchange didn't believe us.
I really liked the resort, but when service was bad it was downright terrible and nearly ruined the entire vacation.

Occidental Punta Cana: Pros and Cons Occidental Punta Cana
Easy check in. Was put in room 10117, unit 10. This was not a renovated unit. As soon as we entered the room I knew this wasn't what we had paid for. First off, the bureau drawers were broken, couldn't put our clothes in there, I was afraid when we pulled drawers out they would fall on us. I mentioned it to the concierge and he sent someone from housekeeping, who just slammed the drawers shut, didn't solve the problem. Rust in the bath tub and mold on the ceiling, looked like the ceiling w[... read more]as going to fall down. Wood on patio was rotten.
Had a meeting with Hugo, the Transat rep, the next morning. He told us Air Transat had a contract with the hotel to put all Air Transat clients in the units that were renovated 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. We as well as several other people voiced our concerns over the units we were given. Hugo said he was going to speak to the hotel and have our rooms changed and to meet back at the lobby in the afternoon. Needless to say, rooms weren't changed that day, wasted time hanging around the lobby watching Hugo argue with hotel staff. Told to meet again the next day. More wasted time watching Hugo argue, still no room change. What was really upsetting was they were giving the new check ins the renovated rooms. Finally on Monday afternoon, we were told to pack up and bring our bags to the lobby as we were getting a new room. Well wouldn't you know the room wasn't ready, so had to give luggage to bell hop and waste another hour waiting for room.
At last room was ready, and have to tell you it was beautiful and exactly what we should have been given in the first place.
Poor Hugo had at least 10 or 15 clients that wanted their rooms changed. Lots and lots of complaints. So much negative energy and time wasted on something that was supposed to be rightfully ours. Not a good way to spend our vacations Kudos to Hugo for keeping his cool and managing to get people their new rooms.
Hotel is beautiful, grounds are immaculate, staff is friendly, couldn't ask for a better beach. Would I stay here again, Definitely, but would refuse to stay in a unit that wasn't renovated.

Occidental Cozumel: Awesome vacation
Occidental was an amazing resort, everything was so well looked after, very tropical looking. Food was fantastic everywhere on the resort. This was probably the best resort all inclusive that we have been to yet.
We stayed in the royal luxury level, rooms were absolutely beautiful but the only complaint I had about them was they weren't consistent on keeping shampoo/conditioner and face clothes stocked in our room. Fridge was supposed to be stocked everyday with beverages but they also forgot[... read more] to fill the beer each time.
But all in all we would 100% go back to this resort for sure and would recomend to everyone.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Beautiful Resort
Occidental Cozumel: Absolutely beautiful resort and great for kids
We had a great experience. We have travelled to about 10 other all inclusive resorts across the Caribbean (Cuba, DR, Roatan) with our now 7 year old. This was our first trip with her and our 20 month old. The resort is beautiful. Rooms are super clean and updated. Food was good. Food can be a bit repetitive but one of the best we have been to and we usually stay at 4 or 5 stars. The lunch beachside buffet is big and opens very shortly after breakfast ends. There isn't much of a gap between food[... read more] being available which is nice. The pool is right next to the beach which is great for people like me who have a child far more interested in the pool and I want to be at the beach. The kids club staff were amazing. They always had activities for the kids from pool activities to arts and crafts poolside and water balloon fights etc. They were very creative. Evening entertainment is lacking a bit compared to much bigger resorts but since I travel with kids I am ready for bed by 9pm anyway. Coffee is readily available before breakfast even opens which was great for my early morning walks keeping my baby from waking our entire building. Water was calm 5 of 7 days. Snorkelling out front of the resort was boring. Very flat and looked like a sandy field. I am not sure what the hype is about snorkelling there off the resort. Diving was ok. Well organized but diving is much better in Roatan, Honduras. They only have one beach bar with one bartender who hussled, but it was very slow because all of the drinks are made fresh from scratch. Annoying to me because I only drank beer but for those that like sugary fancy drinks you would appreciate the effort they put into the drinks. Overall we would definitely go back to this resort because it was smaller, and great for the kids. The entertainment staff (only 4 people) were incredible and were really what made the trip. They deserve a lot of credit.

Allegro Cozumel: Fantastic spot!
Best trip we've had, and we've been to Cuba, DR and Mexico before. What a paradise this is! Stunning beach, well manicured grounds, not too big. Everything you need for a fantastic stay. Food was great and varied, something for everyone! Drinks were good and free flowing. The staff was outstanding. Special thanks to Benjamin, Rafael, Luis, Erik, and Libia and Marina at the concierge. Our first room had a small flood issue and they handled it perfectly, upgrading us to a premium level room and ma[... read more]king sure we had everything we needed. We went into town and had a great time exploring some of the local culture. Some of the main strip can be pricey as it's cruise-ship oriented but don't be afraid to explore a few blocks deeper into town. Snorkelling off shore was a ton of fun and we saw a lot of colourful fish, cuttlefish, stingray and a barracuda. Fantastic for kids, with a large splash park and activity area, but this time we went without ours and there were plenty of quiet places for adults to sit back and relax. I would go back to this resort in a heartbeat. You can see they are working hard at keeping it at a high level, with much maintenance and updating going on daily (tending to the grounds, touch up painting, improving structures etc). It really felt like a little slice of paradise. Rooms on the upper level are loud, that's true. There was a bird who landed on our thatched roof each morning to sing and sometimes you'd swear he was in the bed beside you. But that didn't really bother us too much. If you want a quieter room, ask for one away from the main paths/pools and on the lower level.
We found the Hotel far too big and the staff was not very friendly at all. The maid that cleaned the room either forgot to leave coffee or water to make it. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
This is our first time to Cuba. We enjoyed the weather, the beach and the overall environment of Solymar. Of course there are good and bad things about Solymar. The priviledge of accessing both Solymar and Arenas Blancas allowed us to try different restaurants and bars, and we got to walk around the nicely maintained gardens and grounds. On average, the food is ok, and we enjoyed the night shows (dancers are great!)
However, the rooms are less than desirable which could be cleaned better. Al[... read more]so, we found that the servers at the buffets and other restaurants are not careful enough when cleaning up the tables and they dropped and broke glasses all the time... that is quite unacceptable as it is dangerous... (both servers and customers could be injured by broken glass pieces). It is highly recommended the servers be trained again so that they don't drop things easily... (It is quite unprofessional for a server to break or drop things when serving customers as it is part of their job to clean up the tables properly..) Also, it's kind of hard to connect to the Internet as Wifi is not very stable. Please improve this technology issue...
Apart from the negative things mentioned above, we truly enjoyed our stay in Cuba. Nothing can beat the warm weather and the gorgeous beach. (Beach could be cleaned better though). We also joined two days of tour. One is to Havana and the other one is a seatour with seafood/lobster lunch. Both are great trips!
I will be back and I hope to see some improvements next time I come back.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Barcello Maya Colonial
The hotel and grounds are magnificent. One of the best resorts we've been to over the past 20 years and we've been to many. Staff is always smiling and busy ensuring guests were well taken care off. A great facility for both kids and adults. Buffet served great food and the housekeeping staff always looked after us. We were asked by a number of staff throughout the week if we had any concerns or questions and if we had any suggestions for them. That is a first for any resort we've been to[... read more].
I do have a couple of comments. We arrived at 8:00 pm, along with another bus load of guests. The front desk was obviously not prepared as it took more than an hour to check in. Staff were running around, back and forth to a back room doing something. After a long day of travel the last thing we needed was an hour +++ wait. Our group included 10 people with two smaller children. We weren't impressed with that. Also, following our Monday morning orientation we were advised to go to guest services and schedule our al' a carte dinners which we did. We were told that nothing was available before 10 pm any evening until Friday. Out of five al a carte opportunities but could only use two. That was disappointing as these restaurants looked very good.
But we all agreed it was a fantastic family holiday.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great trip to the Bacelo Maya Resort in Mexico!
There is something for everyone at the resort. Lots of activities included, the beach, many pools, the Maya Mall and Plaza Mexicana were all great! The resort is very clean, and easy to get around. Walking from one end to the other was easy.
The service was generally very good. In particular, we had excellent service at the Rodizio restaurant. The Guest Service rep we dealt with was very accommodating.
The only negative about the trip was how the resort credit was applied. Upon check in,[... read more] we were given the impression that each room had a 250 USD resort credit to be applied to various items at the resort (bottles of wine, spa, bowling, etc.). This is not actually how the credit worked. The 250 USD was the total amount of the discounts offered on items purchased at the resort. For instance, if a bottle of wine was 800 pesos, you were charged 600 pesos, as a 25% discount was applied. We were under the impression that the 600 pesos was what would be covered by the credit. It was a little shocking upon checkout to find out that there were more charges to the room than anticipated.
Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip, as did my Mother and our children (14, 2 x 18, 20) - I would definitely return!

Occidental Caribe: Nice Resort
The hotel is older but well laid out. Grounds are nicely kept, al a carte restaurants pretty good, beach is beautiful and clean, rooms are small with paper thin walls sounded like the people in the next room were in our room. We went at a bad time as there were hundreds of students there for reading week from the US and it was a nightmare. They were up partying all night, throwing up in the pool, spilling drinks in the pool, you couldn't even get close to the bar to get a drink. After 2 days w[... read more]e moved to there sister hotel 10 mins down the road the Occidential Punta Cana well worth the extra money although we did not have to pay any extra, thank you Air Transat for getting us moved. Would not go back to the Occidential Caribe been to a lot nicer resorts for the same money.
