The hotel is old but it's in a great spot. The employees are good and friendly. The food is good for Cuba. New years eve had plentifully great food. The everyday food was the same but we always found something to eat.

Melia Las Antillas: Great resort!
We enjoyed all aspects of this resort: great food, excellent pool, great entertainment, great service and nice room. We enjoyed the fact that they're weren't a lot of line ups at the resort. We always could find a spot at the pool or on the beach. All the hotel grounds were well maintained and the staff was excellent. The room (delux room) had a great layout, but is starting to show the signs of age (wear and tear), could use some new bedding as well. Overall we were very happy with this res[... read more]ort and would recommend going there.

Tryp Cayo Coco: We would not go again
We came on Christmas day and we did not like atmosphere (drunk locals at lobby)
Lobby -not high sealing, small space. Not lobby more reception only. You donâ€t have feeling you are at resort. Check in was fast only we came in that time. Our room was fine, and maid lady did a great job..Towels are the white and a new which I like.
Buffet area looks like student’s canteen. Sometimes fish from bbq is raw. No veggie. The waiters sometimes do not come at all to ask do we need anything. We onl[... read more]y take one drink for lunch or dinner. For New Yea Eve our waiter came once for drink. Was really disappointing. We are not picky at all this reality.
Snack bar is also horrible..Five or six of locals are having fun while rest of guests are suffering from the noise.
There was no WC near the beach so either you go to your room or near the buffet which is far..
The hotel has a nice layout I view from the terrace.
International restaurant- service was okay.Portions were kiddie sized.
Cuban restaurant -service was a good and portion are normal.
Italian restaurant we did not go, they did not have any open space.
Of all my trips to Cuba, this was by far the most expensive and the only one that really was disappointing and a letdown.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Overall Solid Resort
Food: was overall quite good, especially compared to what I was warned about "bad food in all of Cuba". The food wasn't totally amazing, but I would rate it between good and very good, with great variety.
Bars: great assortment of quality liquors and overall good drinks.
Beach: great, no complaints.
Rooms: between fine and good (non-Royal side). Shower water didn't get hot enough ever, was the biggest problem. A/C adjuster didn't work the greatest. Card slot to power the room [... read more]wouldn't work sometimes. Beds decent. Overall fine.
Service: decent. Lost pool towel and had to talk to about 4 different parties to get replacements, after which I was threatened to be charged $30 if I lost it again. Money exhange booth workers seemed to take 30 minute breaks wayyyy too often. Overall service was sometimes lackadaiscal at bars, restaurants, etc, but overall acceptable.
Entertainment: Ok - good enough for families and adults. For single young adults, you'll generally want to find your thrills elsewhere.
Overall: our goal was to have a place with decent room, food, and beach (a good home base for exploring). It served it's purpose fine. Next time, may try Starfish in downdown Veradero to minimize cabs at night, if beach is still as good.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Excellent atmospehere. Amazing beach and awesome entertainment!
Just came back from a week at Melia Jardins. Stayed 24-31 dec. Weather did not cooperate much the first 2 days but glorious after.
Resort is large, I am told , the largest in Cayo Coco or even Cuba. So be prepared to walk a lot. There are shuttles running back and forth and electric bike Taxi services at night but you may still need to walk quite a bit.
Stayed in block 6. A bit far from lobby and beach but quiet. Shortcut through the pool was good. Walking was tricky at night as you would n[... read more]eed some added lighting - we used our phones for flashlight .
1st night they had the massive party on the beach which was something else. Totally rockin and just incredible atmosphere. Blistered my toes from all the dancing:)
Food:
Its Cuba, and for someone who doesn't eat pork or shelllfish, i still was able to find things to eat and be satisfied. Yes, the food is bland at times but they do have salt and pepper at the tables and loads of sauces to drench your food with by the salad bar. Juices did leave much to be desired - bland and pretty much aweful ( papaya especially).
Ala Cart restaurants. Hit and Miss. We went to International, Asian and Mediterranean where we only really enjoyed the Mediterranean - great food. Rest were mediocre at best. Avoid the pad thai appetizer at the Asian. imagine fried spaghetti with some sauce which leaves a bitter aftertaste in your mouth.
Buffet had always something to eat and variety is sufficient for even the picky eaters. Pasta stations were always busy but if you go later, you won't wait for too long.
Pools and Beach:
beach is amazing. Water is a little cool as its December but you get used to it quickly. Water is clear and sand is soft. Not too many shells or corals to get in the way. Snorkeling is somewhat limited as there's not much to see. You will find the occasional starfish though.
the beach itself is wonderful as it rests in this long bay protected from the waves. Great for long walks and getting your daily steps in. Lots to see at the points. very picturesque. For a high season, there were lots of spaces on the beach under the shaded covers. Lots of loungers for everyone. If you wanted quiet you could walk a little further toward the points where no one would be around you.
Pools are great. We were on the right side of the resort - from the lobby ( East Side I think) where the music was loud and the pool bar teaming with people. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Entertainment staff kept it moving.
Entertainment:
What do you expect. its Cuba! top notch entertainment to say the least! The shows were breathtaking. Great dancing and acrobatics and showmanship. We loved the fantasy night where it seemed like a circus du Soleil production with story telling through ballet and intricate costumes. It was amazing to see the talent displayed on stage.
After the show the staff set up an outdoor party with a DJ who kept us dancing until 11pm. So much fun.
The animation staff was also superb, always getting you up and dancing. Special thanks to Darius!
Rooms:
Specious and with decent A/C. the beds were hard and pillows flat but, surprisingly, we slept well.
Only drawback... the water activities center was closed that week. There was a notice on the door that due to winds exceeding 27km/h the center is closed. I was really hoping to use the kayaks and catamarans. oh well, something to look forward to next time.
We really enjoyed our stay. We will be back!

Room is clean, view is wonderful! Beach is what I want to swing in. But foods is less choices. One bar is cheese and ham, one bar is fruits, one bar is salad. Only one bar is cooked food. I prefer cooked food!

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort!
This resort was great, quiet, friendly staff. The only complaint I would have is the temperature of the jacuzzi by the pools. It should be at least 95 degrees Fahrenheit but was only about 75-80. Even the pool water could be warmer to enjoy better.
But overall, we really loved this resort and have recommended to friends.
Excellent quiet luxurious resort would recommend to everyone the food was excellent the resort is immaculate and most important staff where is superb helpful they went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay the beach is a fabulous safe I can’t say anymore about a good time we had

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Enjoyed our stay here!
We stayed here for 5 days and the resort made our stay enjoyable! The beach was beautiful and the pool was very clean. Food wasn’t bad, had a lot of varieties. People at the resort were very friendly. The resort itself was very clean but the rooms need a little bit more improvement on comfort level. The resort is not close to any major cities, but they had a lot of activities to keep the people entertained. Overall it is really a 4.5 stars resort.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Pretty good resort!
Enjoyed our stayed at this resort! Price was a little high because of the holiday season, and the weather wasn’t the greatest but the resort did everything to make everyone’s stay enjoyable with lots of entertainment. The rooms weren’t luxury but it was clean. People there were amazing! Sol Varadero Beach: Just ok for a 3 Star Resort in Cuba (December 18 - December 25)
I visited this resort with a friend and we did not have high expectations, as it is a 3 star resort. We mainly went to relax by the beach and also drink / eat whatever that is not bad. In summary, I think the beach area is pretty good, the food is just ok due to the fact that they will have 2-3 items that I was able to eat everyday, which were actually not bad. The activities / entertainment was repetative and not comparable to other places I have been to in cuba (also 3-4 star). The customer se[... read more]rvice is horrible and the hotel facilities are also pretty bad.
Beach:
Beach Area is pretty good. It's white sand, great beach as you would expect with most resorts in Varadero. The only downside was the very old and recessed beach chairs which still did the job. 5/5 beach area.
Food:
It was almost the same food everyday which was surprising to me as I had read otherwise from the reviews.
Omelletes were made during breakfast however they didn't have a lot of toppings to choose from most of the time. For lunch it was the same story however I didn't mind cause I didn't have high expectations, and also there was always the same 3 food that I actually liked and ate through out the trip. Dinner was similar to the lunch.
Snack bar:
The 24 hour snack bar only has ham and cheese sandwiches, a chicken salad sandwich with a 10:1 ratio of mayonaise to chicken, and hashbrowns (which they consider as the fritas / fries). They usually have your typical drinks available.
Room / Facilities:
I'm not one to care much about the resort rooms as I use them very little in my vacations, however, bathroom / shower was horrible in the rooms. The shower head had so much calcium build up that they had to send a mechanic to try to clean it up for half an hour. The lights weren't working. All equipment were actually old equipment from Melia Resort (shower curtains, dryer, etc.). The bathroom was very dirty.
Activities / entertainment:
Same activities everyday: stretching and aerobics for 30 minutes by the beach, and a volleyball tournament hosted by the entertainers. It is interesting to note that when the guests wanted to continue playing volleyball, the entertainers sometimes had to take the ball away for other reasons lol. Also at night, there were entertainment shows which included dancing and singing by the same people. The show was pretty good but surprisingly, there was no engagement or interactions with guests unlike very other resort I have been to down south. The entertainers mostly didn't even speak proper English which may explain this.
Customer Service:
Again, I'm a young guy with almost zero expectations in terms of going above and beyond for guests, however, this resort truly has unbelievable customers service. (Please note that there were nice and helpful staff, but the management and typically the majority of staff were horrible should you face any issues whatsoever). Here are a couple of examples:
A guy at the front desk, "Ernesto", continually mocked and wasted guest's time any chance he got. For example, if you had to ask for a replacement room card, he would take his time to get up, try every single card that was previously de-magnitized (almost 100 of them), and of course, he had to use a new card. He did this with every guest. I would call downstairs to go get the towel deposits, he would say come down. As soon as I'd get there, he would say come back in 1 hour. After 1 hour, he would smile and say ya I can't do it today come back tomorrow before 5.... this was the trend with Ernesto.
On another note, I was made to pay 15.50 CUC for a lobster dinner at Christmas night. Next morning I found out that everyone actually got lobster for free. "Yoel", the manager in charge took approximately 1 hour of my time to come down, talk to the head chef, talk to reception, the lady in charge of reservations, etc. and agreed that I should not be paying. At the end when there was no further justification, he said sorry I have a lot of things to do I'm sorry about what happened. I said that I don't think it's ok and he smiled and walked away. I didn't follow up as I don't care for 20 dollars as much to allow it to ruin my vacation but horrible job by the Yoel, the manager there.
One night, the electricity went out intermittently and the bar staff decided they'd close at 11:45 instead of 2AM.
There is no TV or source of entertainment in the lobby except bar chairs.
Overall, I wouldn't go back to the resort, but if it's the cheapest option and you're looking to just go and enjoy the beach with some accommodations on the side, then this may not be a bad option for you.

Paradisus Varadero: Huge Resort
We had booked our trip and went the first week of December 2018. The resort was quiet. The capacity was at 25%. I like how quiet it was because we get to relax but yet we wanted more of a night life at night but the main lobby bar cristal was very quiet. I wished the bartenders at the main bar were more interactive and fun. There were no recommendations on the drinks. Just asked us what we wanted with a grumpy face. There were other bartenders that were ok but could have been better. We stayed a[... read more]t the family concierge and we loved it. It's a big resort so bring a stroller if you can. The family pool area is the best. The music was always popping even though most days we had the pool to ourselves. The service in family concierge is good but the buffet service could have been better since we are staying at a 5 star. The food was alright but it's Cuba after all.
We had Hansel and Lilli as our family concierge. They were both awesome and very accommodating. Our house keeper for week Dec 6 to Dec 13 was amazing as well. On our last day, my daughter became fussy and Hansel surprised her with a balloon and that made her smile so much. That little service makes a big difference. Thank you Hansel!
The bartenders and servers in the family pool area and outdoor restaurant were great. No complaints there. Please let them know they were great!
Lilli was fantastic. She had booked a dinner for my husband and I at Royal Service for one night. Their dining service at the Royal Service area is 100% better then the service we received at any dining at the main area and family concierge. A big difference. We really enjoyed our food and evening in the Royal Service area which is adults only area. Thank you Lilli!
Hansel and Lilli both amazing! Always found us and asked what we needed and arranged our trip to Havana in a vintage car.
There's a great daycare at this resort. I trust them so much. We had one person (forgot her name) watched our daughter one evening in the room for 1.5 hours while we went to the beach party Saturday Dec 8. The entertainment on the beach was fabulous. A must watch. The daycare lady was so friendly and sweet. There's also this other day care lady ...who looks younger then her age. I forgot her name but I saw her mostly everyday when I brought my daughter Ever into play. She always called my daughter by her name and was always just so cheerful to be around.
If we had come at a busy time to this resort...probably wouldn't have received the best service but it would have been more entertaining and fun. We really enjoyed our stay. Just wished some of the workers were more friendly and cheerful. Make it more fun you know?
Daycare and Concierge are a must! They provided 5 star service.
Buffet and a la carte service needs more work.
The beach was beautiful.
All the pool areas are nice and clean.
Family Rooms are big. Nothing to complain there.
A good resort overall.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Our happy place
The grounds are immaculate and the resort itself was peaceful and quiet. It was our second stay at Luna y mares, and we had a beautiful ocean view from our 3rd floor balcony. The staff and service at this resort are excellent! Many recognized us from our previous visit. Front desk was friendly and attentive and was never crowded. In the summertime the resort is overrun by locals, but in the winter months not so much. The best part of this resort is the beach - it's beautiful white sand and stret[... read more]ches forever. The snorkeling is good, and if you go further along to the Rio de Oro and swim along the rock cliff, there are beautiful corals and fish of all varieties to see. Food is very good, always hot and lots to choose from, and always delicious. We had the most succulent lobster dinner at an a-la-carte - I have eaten many lobsters before, but the two we had here were outstanding - definitely worth it. We can't wait for holidays again, we're planning to be back ASAP.

Memories Cayo Largo: Always a fun and relaxing time at Sol Cayo Largo
We love Sol Cayo Largo and have been several times. The food is ok/passable (can't complain for the price) but we really go there for the beach and sunshine. The hotel is clean and service is excellent although the place is a bit shabby - we don't care. It is not for everyone - if you enjoy luxury it is not for you. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Mostly older clientele (40+). We enjoy the clothing optional beach and the very short transfer from airport to hotel.
