Melia Costa Rey: Shame

This resort opened in 2016,we stayed there in 2018, and it was very good. Just came back back from there and in only 8 years resort has become a 3 star at best. Flooding of ground floor rooms, no water for two days so no flush of toilets or shower water. Not to mention almost total lack of hot water. Food was ok at buffets , you won't starve. A la carte restaurants were mediocre. Tile work around pool has become dangerous in and around pools. Shame that only after being built 8 years ago that it has gone down hill so rapidly. However, staff are terrific in all areas from maids to bartenders all were happy to help in any way and ultra courteous. They're doing they're best with what they are given. Sorry but will definitely not return.

I have been to this resort 8 times now. I find even though this place is a little old the staff work hard at keeping it clean and tidy . they have in the recent past installed new lighting around the pool , which look amazing !. The recently installed roof over the patio was a much needed, well liked improvement . THe new teak walkways to beach (3) are a welcome addition and make the trip to the beach easier. Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Amazing resort

Amazing resort BUT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible service you wait for simple cappuccino and glass of water for 15 minutes or more special for kids for glass of juice Terrible service!!!!!!Batroom only one open and no paper towels onside hotel or by the pool !!!!!!!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Wonderful vacation

Danaries Customer Service excellent helpful person. Grounds lovely, food plentiful. Beach amazing, restaurant great service lovely kind people. Lots of food beverages for everyone Yes we ran out but next day or in a few hours there it was so whatever you need Melia had it

Club Amigo Marea Del Portillo: Major Facelift on an Old Favourite

There have been a great number of changes since our last visit - pre covid. All of the improvements were great as well as the staff. The only downside was the food. While they did the best they could with what they had the supply chain was basically very bad, next to non-existant. They did have on site new consultants from Italy which I hope will iron out the problems. Would recommend this resort if I was sure the food problem has been sorted

Tryp Cayo Coco: Home away from home

Such an amazing place. Everything close to hand. Clean and well maintained. So much food, never left feeling hungry! Amazing view, incredible people. I would recommend this resort to everyone. Always feel so welcomed.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Ok resort but not 4 stars

Very good location and beach. Grounds are very nice and kept clean all the time with lot of trees and greenery. Rooms has nice balcony's or patios but in usual condition for Cuba and few times during the day you will be missing water pressure or no water in the tap at all. Very week entertainment team and 2 star night shows comparing to all resort we visit in the past 10 years with very old and run down theater , which may explain level of entertainment. Food was good but Cuba still straggle [... read more] with past covid times but you can always find food you like. Excellent and quick service at all bars but no service by the tables at the lobby area or coffee shop even after staff received tips from customers. After all of that we had good time and coming back to Varadero but will try find another resort.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: great stay

We enjoyed our stay.The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept. The beaches were amazing. The staff works hard and are eager to please. The rooms are a bit dated, but clean. The food was ok a bit repetitive but we were never hungry.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: A little disappointed

Lacking a few essentials like t.p. only had pool towels changed once in 10 days laundry broke down one day so no clean towels in the room ran out of certain items at the buffet staff tried to accommodate as best they could tho

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Quality Resort

Our room was very comfortable, quiet and clean. The grounds were immaculately maintained and the staff were, warm, friendly and energetic. The nine thirty show was consistently entertaining. The resort is a great place for couples to relax and have fun but it is a civilized place, not a crazy party place.

Valentin Cayo Cruz: Sad state of affairs. Pack extra.

I’ll start with: I understand that a lot of folks say you travel to Cuba for the beaches and the people. Those two did not disappoint. The catamaran excursion was also a lot of fun! Lunch at the marina included lobster. This was the third visit to Cuba for myself and the beaches do not disappoint. I was prepared with an entire extra suitcase filled with things to eat and gift however it still was not enough. The coffee maker in the room is nespresso I believe but comes with no pods, so d [... read more]oes not function. I wish I had packed a kettle to save myself a walk to their bar for boiling water to prepare the food I brought. The lighting is not great at night time. The buffet lacked basics (bread/butter/eggs/fruit/potato/fries) for most of the duration of my stay. Maybe bad timing? The location had a lot of potential but I suspect lacks management and resources. Often there was no wine, even in the restaurants and several times during my stay they would completely disconnect water to the rooms (shower/taps) so having a shower after a day on the beautiful beach wasn’t an option. Reception didn’t have any information regarding the outages. When I read about water shortages, I assumed drinking water. Which was also the case. The flight was terrible. It was westjet hosting a cheap Swoop plane and a story for another day.. Gift ideas: baby formula - there are shortages for the kiddos. Medicine, feminine products, bandaids, easy instant snacks, spices, (they have salt and pepper) hot sauce/sauce packets from that collection in your fridge and a small kettle!

Melia Marina Varadero: Not as presented

Hotel is struggling! Shortage of food and what was there was limited. Same food everyday. Asked for butter for toast, advised none left. It was 9 a.m. no syrup for pancakes. No salad fixings. No toilet paper. Needed to ask for clean towels. Dark hallways where the hotel is not being used. Definitely not a five star! Not many guests either.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Perfect resort on an unbeatable price point!

Great hotel, great resort. Would highly recommend. Beautiful beach! Good selection at the buffet. Of course don’t expect too much from Cuba due to their shortages, but the buffet showcased the showmanship of the workers there and their attention to detail! The best service we have ever received, arguably better than most places in Canada! The people working at the hotel were super nice and made it a truly special trip for us!

Valentin Perla Blanca: Great Week in the Sun

Spent a week at Perla Blanca from Feb21-28, 2024. Beach, sun, and ocean were fantastic. Hotel staff were all kind and courteous. Yes there were shortages of various things, but this is to be expected for the Island of Cuba where their primary revenue stream is tourism and ALL resorts are recovering from the "COVID Pandemic". If you want "fine dining", go to the south of France or Italy. If you want beautiful quiet beaches, great ocean water, and somewhere to "unplug" for a week, come here. Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Second visit

I’ve never gone to a resort a second time, but I enjoyed Angsana so much I returned. The staff are amazing, trying their hardest with the shortages which are endemic in Cuba. Unfortunately there was no white or sparkling wine, no coffee in the room or beach towels for 2 days. Even so we enjoyed ourselves. The beaches are beautiful and we certainly did not go hungry or thirsty.

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Disappointing Week

We booked our week at the Coral Esmeralda because it was listed as a 5 star resort, and because it was a smaller, adults-only resort. It had some positive aspects. Since it was small and adults-only, we enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk with a number of people during the week. The entertainment each evening was very good -- talented dancers, singers and musicians.The beach was beautiful, as was the pool area. We especially appreciated Denny and Roberto, the lifeguards. The gardeners, especially, greeted us cheerfully every day. Others, not so much. Some of the management level staff seemed disinterested. Although water was supposed to be delivered to our room daily, it did not always appear. We reported this, and nothing happened. Toilet paper was in short supply, and often the dispensers in the washrooms in the lobby and at the pool bar were empty. The supply of toilet paper in our room was very limited. We could have bought some at the small store near the lobby, but didn't feel that should have been necessary. . Currency was a significant issue throughout the week. We had Canadian currency, but staff wanted US dollars for tips. Since Canadian tourists contribute significantly to the Cuban economy, we were were very confused by this. They also were not interested in receiving Cuban pesos. There was enough food, but little variety, and it would have helped if it had been labelled. Both the menu and venue of the a-la-carte restaurants were disappointing.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Be aware

If you decide to go to this resort be sure to choose Roc Plus or the upgraded room at time of booking in Canada. This is definitely a situation that requires a renovated/ superior/ upgraded room. Upgraded equals a painted room with a bathroom renovation. Unusual situation on site, indifferent staff regardless of tipping , makes no difference with the exception of one bartender- Daniel, one housekeeper, Annamarty? and one lady that makes milk shakes and sandwiches Martalys? Gran Muthu Imperial: NEVER AGAIN!!!

You don't go to Cuba for the food but this was ridiculous. No coffee for 4 days, no potatoes, only 1 fresh fruit, ran out of eggs, no spoons on the table..you had to find someone to get you one. Only pudding and Ice cream for desert. The ala carte restaurants served exactly the same food as the buffet. Storage of room towels and half the time the toilets would not flush. Also the worst beach we've seen in the Caribbean. Not groomed...rotting seaweed and so many stones and broken shells that  [... read more]you couldn't walk barefoot on the sand. Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Amazing resort

The hotel was very nice 1st class, clean. The food was delicious and was not short. The beach was breathtaking. I cannot say enough about the staff they were incredibly helpful and so friendly. I recommend this resort

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful place

The hotel was beautiful, kept very clean, suggest carrying tissue with you for bathrooms would be the 1 thing, staff was so hard working and the most kind and helpful. Rooms were a great size, and clean. There was things for all age groups to do whether at the resort or down by the ocean
