Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great resort- would go back again

The food was great. The resort was large and there were so many things to do such as bowling alley, water park, dolphin attraction. No complaints. Would go again. We didn't bring kids but looked like a great place for kids.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: What an amazing Week!

Amazing beach, such a massive resort that you will always find something to do. We would definitley return to this resort. I reccomend the Caribe or Beach section - super close to everything. We just happened to luck out and get a room 60 steps from the bar / mall. The buffet food could have been better but neither of us got sick once and we always found something to eat. The buffet had over 100 choices each time but most times the food was lukewarm, cold or super dry. I had pasta one day towards the end and a panini and it was so great to have something HOT. All the bartenders were fantastic, service is best at strikers Victor and Alfredo were my favourite :) there was days at the pool bar we were waiting 15-20 mins for a drink but that wasn't a regular thing. I loved the fact this resort is so big! We got lots of exercise walking around . We are planning on returning one day. I got a lot of mosquito bites while at this resort .. make sure to bring spray! Tips : Bring extra sunscreen ! We went through so much - had to buy some from the beach shop $37USD! Tipping does not change the level of service you get which I found odd. We brought $100 USD for tips but it doesnt make the service any quicker. They do appreciate them though and definitely deserve it Eat & pasta station and grill station if you like your food to be hot. Ask for a ground level room and you'll have sun chairs to lounge in! If you want to save money on excursions we took a collectivo (shuttle) to playa del carmen & tulum. Cost us 80 pesos (2 people) you'll need to cross the highway so be careful ! We went and saw the ruins in tulum and 5th Ave in playa del carmen. The whole thing cost us around 380 pesos - about 25 Canadian .. so much better than the over priced tours ! There are a few cenotes across the main entrance of the hotel that are inexpensive . We ran out of time but you can research on a map. Cenote azul and Khi chen? Cenotes.

Occidental Punta Cana: Great hotel!

I just got back from one week holiday, March 1st to March 8th, I had a great room building #26, renovated room, pool view and to the right the beach! The food was good, there's something for everyone, I really like the Mexican A La Carte, I didn't like the Italian, I had chicken parmesan which was deep fried, I'm use to being baked but I heard lots of people were having steak there and it was good. I did try the Steakhouse, I like my steak well done or pink, I had to send it back it was runny bl [... read more]ood. I didn't try the Oriental and the Seafood, I heard good thing about it. I didn't find the service that great. I had a wonderful time it was very clean and safe. One thing would of been nice is to be able to go to the gym anytime, we had to wait until 8:00 a.m. for the guy to open it, would of been better if we could of use our key card.

Barcelo Karmina: 1st Class Resort

I must say' this was an amazing resort. - my first impression of lobby, impressive - service from bell people, so kind and helpful, then stepped into our room, and wow, it was beautiful, view from balcony, breathtaking. - food was artfully presented and tasted better than it looked. - service, amazing, - pools and swimming area, so beautiful and clean. -excursions were great, could have caught more fish, but that's fishing. -we absolutely had a great fault and enjoyed our stay

Barcelo Maya Palace: Barcelo Palace is now a Kids resort

We have been at this resort 3rd time and I have seen a definitive downturn. Poor service at the front desk. They need training. Also they insist in taking a credit card for incidentals. Be aware! If there are wongful charges no one will help you! AC DID NO WORKED FOR A FULL DAY! They stopped electricity for a half day. People working there are nice. I recommend the beach resort instead and the Maya mall.

Occidental Costa Cancun: Quaint and lovely!

The resort was quite small but what it lacked in size was made up for by the hospitable staff and amazing food. The evening entertainment was ok but lacked variety and with the resort not offering a disco or evening music it made for somewhat boring nights. Unless we had a late dinner ate in of the three amazing restaurants or buffet. There was good for everyone's tastes and we always had full bellies! I'm not sure we will return based on our love of dancing and music. But, overall the experience was great and relaxing.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Great resort

Large updated resort with lots to do. Multiple large pools. Awesome sandy beach. Lots of chairs and trees for shade. Exceptional service in restaurants with multiple options, both casual and formal. Most enjoyable resort. Staff very friendly and professional.

Barcelo Solymar: Wonderful Resort

This was our first trip to Cuba, It took me quite awhile before I had decided on a resort to stay in, The Barceló Solymar was everything the pictures said it was. The resort is a little dated, but the staff more than makes up for it. We met some amazing people while we were there. Everything was clean and well kept. The staff from the gardener to the front desk were great. cant wait to go back and see some of the people that we met.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Thoroughly Enjoyable

Although not brand new this hotel is maintained to excellent standards. They are constantly doing repairs, painting, decorating etc. On the way to breakfast on our second morning there was a lady standing outside the buffet holding a clipboard. She asked us if our room was satisfactory or if we had any issues. We told her the bathroom vanity mirror was damaged and one of the door hinges was broken on the fridge/coffee maker cabinet. ( My wife was concerned we would get blamed for the damage.  [... read more]) When we returned to our room after eating our breakfast the mirror had already been replaced and the door hinge was fixed. I was impressed!! There was a great variety of food and it was delicious. Nice selection of a la cart restaurants.My favorite was the Seafood restaurant while my wife loved the Mexican one! Beach was beautiful and lots of lounge chairs. We never had to run out in the morning to put a towel on the chair for later. Pools were plentiful and kept very clean. We are already talking about returning next year, but for 2 weeks instead of one.

Occidental Punta Cana: Beautiful beach

This resort had one of the best beaches in Punta Cana.The food was great.The rooms were nice.Being part of the First Club was amazing as we had our own bar on the beach with no waiting ever, well worth the extra money.

Recently renovated. Nicely done. Lots of open air lounging and places to kick back in the evening .more room on the beach and pool areas too We enjoyed our third trip there in 10 years and will go back

Occidental Punta Cana: First time surfer

The MOST AMAZING BEACH I have ever seen . The food was great and plentiful. Had a great time on the excursions did surfing first time of my life loved it!! The hotel and rooms were great and clean. The staff was great and friendly !!

Occidental Punta Cana: Awesome

All was great, clean resort. Staff was very pleasant and helpful when asked for any assistance. Beach was stunning and clean. Excursion were well planned and alot of fun. Nightly entertainment was very enjoyable.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Paradise on Earth!

We just came back from spending a wonderful week at the Barcelo Maya Palace. The gardens are beautiful in their natural splendor: lush vegetation and so well kept. The grounds of the Maya Palace are vast and well designed, in addition to having 4 other resorts next to each other where you can also wander around and enjoy the facilities and the beach area. The sight of the beach is just amazing: different shades of blue and turquoise, some areas with white-sand bottom w [... read more]here you can swim, and other areas with rocks and coral reef where you can snorkel and enjoy the sight of varied marine life, including coloured fish, turtles and even sting rays! Some areas of calm waters and some areas of waves. The food was divine and in such variety and abundance. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. But the real treasure at the resort was the staff: so kind, helpful and efficient. A big Thank you to our agent, Cassandra Royle, who helped us get this trip organized.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great trip & Great Resort!

This was our first time booking an all inclusive trip and it did not disappoint. Mernie Shields talked me through it all on a late night last minute booking..once we noticed our #1 hotel drop to a price that worked for us. The Barcelo Maya in mexico that is. This hotel spoke to us as a family with all the family friendly amenities we read about online and in person it was even better! I would say its the oldest portion of the resort and you can tell that from the state of the rooms. But not terrible. The food was good and the a la carte options were even better. With the resort being so huge you really didn't feel crowded. Lots to see and do for the littles or the adults. Our 4 yr old could not get enough of the kids pools or the Barcy club. It was wonderful to see the same staff working in the kids club, the kids became familiar the ladies and comfortable going back. The resort itself is nestled not far from playa del carmen (we took both a taxi and the shuttle bus into town) which also made it close to many wonderful excursions. We would definitely return - i highly recommend to this with children. It was very family friendly and not swamped with "spring breakers"

Occidental Costa Cancun: Quality over quantity.

It was beautiful, there is one pool and one smaller beach. The resort is smaller compared to most I've seen. It's a beautiful light blue chunk of ocean right in front of the beach though and it's is truly a hotel based on quality over quantity. The food was great service was impeccable! The rooms were perfect, beds very comfortable and clean.

Allegro Cozumel: Absolutely Love this place!!

This hotel has a lot to offer! It's very clean, the food is amazing, the rooms are fantastic & the beach is perfect!! The staff is always extremely helpful, hard working & very grateful to have us there. This was our second time at Allegro Cozumel & my aunt & uncle that join us it was Thier 4th year there! The manager upgraded our room which was an awesome surprise as well! We will be going back again next year & we tell everyone we know to go there!!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great Resort

This is our second time at this resort. I would highly recommend this beautiful clean and wonderfull resort to anyone. The staff are great and very helpful. The buffet is is very good with plenty of choices. I would definitely go again

Pros great sandy beach large clean rooms immaculate lush grounds friendly helpful staff Pro Dive provided excellent diving experience Cons buffet small, very bland repetitive selections constant sewer smell around building 17 (where we stayed) musty smell in our room disappointing meal at seafood restaurant, limited menu poor quality nightly shows

Allegro Cozumel: Compact Family Friendly Resort

Loved the Caribbean feel of this easy-to-navigate resort with grass roof, hammocks on every balcony, and lush landscaping. Rooms were modern, but a bit too small for a family of four. Enjoyed the view of the ocean from the pool and hot tub closest to the beach. The kids' water park-like pool was quite entertaining for the children, and the other pools were simple but clean. The food was also simple but tasty and the drinks were great. I liked that there was drink service on the beac [... read more]h and around the pool, but found the chair side service inconsistent. Often there were long lines for drinks at the beach bar and at the restaurants. The bartenders tried to go as fast as possible, which was nice to see and made one appreciate the effort. "Cozumel Time" is faster than the traditional "Island Time" I've experienced elsewhere. There was only one restaurant open for the entire resort for each meal, except for dinner if you manage to book an a la carte at a decent hour. The sports bar upstairs takes the place of the traditional lobby bar and didn't offer any entertainment. I didn't like having to wait more than 1/2h just to get a table at a self serve buffet. And even then I would have to ask for coffee service, or for a coffee cup so I could serve myself. Nonetheless, the good far outweighs the bad at this resort. I would go again tomorrow, eat salsa and guac, and drink margaritas all week long.
