Barcelo Solymar: Wonderful Resort

This was our first trip to Cuba, It took me quite awhile before I had decided on a resort to stay in, The Barceló Solymar was everything the pictures said it was. The resort is a little dated, but the staff more than makes up for it. We met some amazing people while we were there. Everything was clean and well kept. The staff from the gardener to the front desk were great. cant wait to go back and see some of the people that we met.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Thoroughly Enjoyable

Although not brand new this hotel is maintained to excellent standards. They are constantly doing repairs, painting, decorating etc. On the way to breakfast on our second morning there was a lady standing outside the buffet holding a clipboard. She asked us if our room was satisfactory or if we had any issues. We told her the bathroom vanity mirror was damaged and one of the door hinges was broken on the fridge/coffee maker cabinet. ( My wife was concerned we would get blamed for the damage.  [... read more]) When we returned to our room after eating our breakfast the mirror had already been replaced and the door hinge was fixed. I was impressed!! There was a great variety of food and it was delicious. Nice selection of a la cart restaurants.My favorite was the Seafood restaurant while my wife loved the Mexican one! Beach was beautiful and lots of lounge chairs. We never had to run out in the morning to put a towel on the chair for later. Pools were plentiful and kept very clean. We are already talking about returning next year, but for 2 weeks instead of one.

Occidental Punta Cana: Beautiful beach

This resort had one of the best beaches in Punta Cana.The food was great.The rooms were nice.Being part of the First Club was amazing as we had our own bar on the beach with no waiting ever, well worth the extra money.

Occidental Punta Cana: Occidental punta cana

Recently renovated. Nicely done. Lots of open air lounging and places to kick back in the evening .more room on the beach and pool areas too We enjoyed our third trip there in 10 years and will go back

Occidental Punta Cana: First time surfer

The MOST AMAZING BEACH I have ever seen . The food was great and plentiful. Had a great time on the excursions did surfing first time of my life loved it!! The hotel and rooms were great and clean. The staff was great and friendly !!

Occidental Punta Cana: Awesome

All was great, clean resort. Staff was very pleasant and helpful when asked for any assistance. Beach was stunning and clean. Excursion were well planned and alot of fun. Nightly entertainment was very enjoyable.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Paradise on Earth!

We just came back from spending a wonderful week at the Barcelo Maya Palace. The gardens are beautiful in their natural splendor: lush vegetation and so well kept. The grounds of the Maya Palace are vast and well designed, in addition to having 4 other resorts next to each other where you can also wander around and enjoy the facilities and the beach area. Lots of walking areas! The sight of the beach is just amazing: different shades of blue and turquoise, some areas with white-sand bottom w [... read more]here you can swim, and other areas with rocks and coral reef where you can snorkel and enjoy the sight of varied marine life, including coloured fish, turtles and even sting rays! Some areas of calm waters and some areas of waves. The food was divine and in such variety and abundance. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. But the real treasure at the resort was the staff: so kind, helpful and efficient. A big Thank you to our agent, Cassandra Royle, who helped us get this trip organized.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great trip & Great Resort!

This was our first time booking an all inclusive trip and it did not disappoint. Mernie Shields talked me through it all on a late night last minute booking..once we noticed our #1 hotel drop to a price that worked for us. The Barcelo Maya in mexico that is. I would say its the oldest portion of the resort and you can tell that from the state of the rooms. But not terrible. The food was good and the a la carte options were even better. With the resort being so huge you really didn't feel crowded. Lots to see and do for the littles or the adults. Our 4 yr old could not get enough of the kids pools or the Barcy club. It was wonderful to see the same staff working in the kids club, the kids became familiar the ladies and comfortable going back. The resort itself is nestled not far from playa del carmen (we took both a taxi and the shuttle bus into town) which also made it close to many wonderful excursions. We would definitely return - i highly recommend to this with children. It was very family friendly and not swamped with "spring breakers"

Occidental Costa Cancun: Quality over quantity.

It was beautiful, there is one pool and one smaller beach. The resort is smaller compared to most I've seen. It's a beautiful light blue chunk of ocean right in front of the beach though and it's is truly a hotel based on quality over quantity. The food was great service was impeccable! The rooms were perfect, beds very comfortable and clean.

Allegro Cozumel: Absolutely Love this place!!

This hotel has a lot to offer! It's very clean, the food is amazing, the rooms are fantastic & the beach is perfect!! The staff is always extremely helpful, hard working & very grateful to have us there. This was our second time at Allegro Cozumel & my aunt & uncle that join us it was Thier 4th year there! The manager upgraded our room which was an awesome surprise as well! We will be going back again next year & we tell everyone we know to go there!!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great Resort

This is our second time at this resort. I would highly recommend this beautiful clean and wonderfull resort to anyone. The staff are great and very helpful. The buffet is is very good with plenty of choices. I would definitely go again

Occidental Cozumel: Occidental Cozumel

Overall enjoyable stay 27 Feb - 06 Mar 17. Pros great sandy beach large clean rooms immaculate lush grounds friendly helpful staff Pro Dive provided excellent diving experience Cons buffet small, very bland repetitive selections constant sewer smell around building 17 (where we stayed) musty smell in our room disappointing meal at seafood restaurant, limited menu poor quality nightly shows

Allegro Cozumel: Compact Family Friendly Resort

Loved the Caribbean feel of this easy-to-navigate resort with grass roof, hammocks on every balcony, and lush landscaping. Rooms were modern, but a bit too small for a family of four. Enjoyed the view of the ocean from the pool and hot tub closest to the beach. The kids' water park-like pool was quite entertaining for the children, and the other pools were simple but clean. The food was also simple but tasty and the drinks were great. I liked that there was drink service on the beac [... read more]h and around the pool, but found the chair side service inconsistent. Often there were long lines for drinks at the beach bar and at the restaurants. The bartenders tried to go as fast as possible, which was nice to see and made one appreciate the effort. "Cozumel Time" is faster than the traditional "Island Time" I've experienced elsewhere. There was only one restaurant open for the entire resort for each meal, except for dinner if you manage to book an a la carte at a decent hour. The sports bar upstairs takes the place of the traditional lobby bar and didn't offer any entertainment. I didn't like having to wait more than 1/2h just to get a table at a self serve buffet. And even then I would have to ask for coffee service, or for a coffee cup so I could serve myself. Nonetheless, the good far outweighs the bad at this resort. I would go again tomorrow, eat salsa and guac, and drink margaritas all week long.

Occidental Punta Cana: Absolutely Beautiful Resort

Our stay at the Occidental Punta Cana was amazing! Wonderful people, beautiful, clean resort! I do not recommend going to Punta Cana with Pesos because all they take is American so we got ripped off huge! The airport was a complete nightmare as they only accept American or credit card! Well when you don't have either and have to exchange Canadian to American, they ROB you! Which happened to us because we were starving because 6 hours of waiting because our plane was delayed we were starving and [... read more] dying of thirst so we had to spend money! Would love compensation from Air Transat as well because they were horrible! Won't be flying with them again! Not too sure if I want to go back to Dominican again unless the American dollar is good and we can exchange it here! I wish we knew better! But again, the resort was great and I would stay there again if we went back!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Lacking in many areas

If you are looking for a cheaper resort and not picky about food or service, you might be OK. here is the good and the bad... PROS clean rooms beautiful beach and pool areas great outdoor activities and staff excellent massage and spa lots to do CONS 1/ We were told we could not make dinner reservations before we arrived. After checking in, we went straight to the concierge only to find out that we couldn't get in to most of the restaurants, as they were fully booked. Well, unless of  [... read more]course you wanted a 10:45pm reservation!! 2/ We tried to show up at the Italian restaurant one night just to see if there were any tables available or any no shows. The hostess just kept walking by us and didn't acknowledge us at all. There were a few empty tables. 3/ Staff at all the restaurants and buffet were not interested in serving anyone! It took 30 min for us to get coffee one morning at breakfast in the buffet area after asking several times. And this was the case everyday for breakfast and lunch. no napkins or cutlery, waited for water fill ups etc. Many of the staff did not speak English and even though we had someone in our group who spoke Spanish, they ignored us. 4/ Food was mostly cold; not just in the buffet but also the nice restaurants we were able to get into and not just once, but EVERYTIME. The quality of the food was OK, not great! You would think at the specialty restaurants, it would be better but it wasn't. 5/ When you check in, they give you a coupon for 25% off services such as early check out, spa etc. We made massage appointments but then went to have our coupon applied, we were told the 25% was included in the price. Uh NO! there was nothing on the coupon or the spa menu that stated this. False advertising for sure. 6/ The nightly entertainment was bad. I mean really bad. The sound system was awful and you couldn't really hear the singers; maybe a good thing as they were out of tune. The dance numbers were not well choreographed and dancers were out of sync. There was one woman’s dance number that was AMAZING, but that was all. It was not entertaining! Overall, like I mentioned above, if food and service are not important, you will be OK here. This resort is marketed as a 4 star, so that is what we are expecting. (and yes I realize 4 star in Dominican is not like the 4 star we have at home) I would say it is a 3 at best.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Disappointed

Rooms very dated. The sister resort which allowed children was much more updated in terms of the room etc. First time I have Been to a resort and paid for adults only and the people who did not pay for adults only could come over to our see of the resort ? The main thing that stuck out for me s EVERYONE on staff was very unhappy. I have travelled extensively and I have never experienced such an uncaring,unresponsive staff ..... Management issue????

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great resort!

The resort was very well maintained. Our room was very clean. We were very impressed and enjoyed our stay. Overall, the food was very good and the only change I would recommend is changing out the food choices in the beach grills more frequently.

Occidental Tucancun: Amazing Stay!

This was our first time staying at the Occidental Tucancun. I travelled with my boyfriend looking to have a relaxing vacation and we had just that! We arrived at the resort around 11pm our first evening. We met the lovely Nelly, the cocktail waitress that evening. I suggest getting the mango margarita! They are unbelievable! The beach is just beautiful, those waves do get pretty big! But the water is so refreshing and crystal clear. We spent everyday on chairs on the beach. One great thing is th [... read more]at you dont have to wake up at 6am to get a spot! And there are always chairs on the beach available. If you do want a shaded spot by the adult pool however you do need to get there early they are almost all shaded and get scooped up quickly! The Mexican restaurant was our favourite by far. But all of the a la cartes were quite good. The food all around is very good. Omlettes in the morning were fantastic. Our rooms were spacious and the beds firm but comfy. If you can get the chance to request an ocean view I would, our room was facing the back of the mall across the street, however if you looked out the window while laying down you still saw beautiful water. Every employee we met greeted us with a smile and were very helpful. The only thing I would have to say that I felt was a negative possibly for some was that wifi was $12USD per day. We opted against it but we were okay going without our phones for the week. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation in Mexico!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Always great to return to Barcelona!

Lovely grounds, beautiful pools and stunning beach. It never feels busy, and the service is great. Lots of food options, all good, and they now offer more a la carte reservations. We've been back five times and can't seem to settle for anywhere else. The location is great for trips to Tulum, Akumal and Playa del Carmen. We will be back again.
