This resort was definitely one of my favourites!
The resort has lots of entertainment and activities, it’s very clean overall and the buffet is delicious. There is a variety of à la carte restaurants which include Spanish, Italian, Indian, Asian and Japanese foods.
The service is top tier and the workers on the resort are very kind.
The rooms were clean and semi modern but I will say that the beds need an upgrade. They were hard as a rock.
The beach was beautiful and the views[... read more] were amazing. It is important to note that depending on the time of year you visit there may be a lot of seaweed along the beach front.
I would recommend this resort to anyone that is looking to party.
Terrible food in the buffet Waiting for clean plates, line up every morning at omelette station. Coffee machines broken Entertainment sucked. Not a five star resort. I would not recommend Esmeralda to anyone.
The grounds were beautiful and lovely beach

Riu Palace Bavaro: Great Resort, Beautiful Beach and Friendly Staff!
My boyfriend and I stayed here from October 15th-22nd 2022 for our first trip. We appreciated the intake process where the lounge offered food and drinks while we waited to be checked into our room. After a long flight the snacks were much appreciated. We were introduced to our butler Victor Alexis upon arrival and given his contact information once we checked in. Having the ability to contact him with our questions, reservation requests, and seeing his daily messages about the schedules and men[... read more]us of the day made our stay very comfortable. He was very attentive and friendly when seeing him on resort.
Room: We booked the Mirage Club Sky View Suite with Rooftop Jacuzzi and were not disappointed. Being part of the Mirage Club meant we were in the adult only section with just a 2 minute walk from the beach. Our rooftop looked out over the Seaside restaurant and bar, the pool and the beach. The room had air conditioning and our mini fridge was constantly stocked. We were also left extra waters beside on our bedside tables which were much appreciated after late nights. Housekeeping was amazing and kept everything very clean. We never ran out of towels or cleaning products. Our club access also included access to the adults only lounge which stocked drinks, alcohol, a variety of snacks and fruit all day. It was a great addition to the regular food offerings this resort had.
Food: The food options were endless. The buffet was great for breakfast offering variations of eggs, pancakes, crepes, meats, etc. They had lots of fresh fruit and fruit juices along with yogurt and other dairy products. As someone with celiac disease navigating buffets can be difficult. They had clearly marked gluten free muffins, sourdough, and croissants as well as an omelette station that was great for avoiding cross contamination. For the most part the buffet is very straight forward regarding what is and isn't gluten free. Most of the staff that was knowledgeable about gluten free food worked in the restaurants not the buffet. The staff in the French and Italian restaurants were great with recommending gluten free options during both of our first dinner visits. There was some confusion at the Italian (lunch) and French restaurants (2nd dinner visit) so just make sure you double check with a knowledgeable staff member. It can help to have a spanish description of gluten free food saved on your phone. The Kabuki restaurant was awesome for making sure the food was gluten free! They used gluten free soy sauce and made sure to keep the cooking area and food separate from the usual food they had cooking. It was a great experience. We typically went to the Seaside buffet for lunch which offered both traditional dishes from the Dominican as well as fresh salads, fruit, and seafood. This buffet was a bit harder to navigate so be sure to find an employee that knows gluten free food to guide you through it. There was also a coffee shop open most of the days that offered great food and speciality drinks.
Entertainment: There was always something going on during the day or at night to keep you busy. There were lots of activities in some of the pools as well as beach activities. The nightly shows featured popular music and impressive acrobatics. I recommend getting a seat early if you're looking forward to a particular show. They also had entertainment in the courtyard area that was easier to drop in on before or after dinner. We even picked up a painting from one of the performers.
Beach: The beach was great! There were some days with seaweed and some days without. They did make an effort to keep it clean as best they could. There are a lot of people trying to sell things on the beach which can be helpful if you're looking for souvenirs but is a bit overwhelming. Most of the sellers are polite and move on if you are not interested. There were lots of chairs but be sure to try and to get a bali bed early in the day if you want to spend any time on one. The drink service on the beach was a plus.
Bars: The piano bar is a perfect place to go for fancy drinks. Antony at the lobby bar was amazing! He always had drinks ready when he saw us coming and had his own speciality drinks when we weren't sure what to order. The seaside bar is the best place to grab drinks when you are on the beach. The ladies there are very friendly. Rafi was also awesome at the Tiki bar if you're spending the day in the pool. If you're part of the Mirage Club make sure to visit the exclusive bars beside your lounge or in your pools which are less busy.
Check out: Check out process was quick an easy. Our bags were picked up while we went to breakfast and loaded onto the shuttle for us as we left.
Overall we had a great experience and will be returning hopefully to see the same staff members that made the trip memorable.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: enjoyed out stay
This was our third time at the Colonial. We have always stayed in the swim up on the club side which is adults only. First room they gave us was on the third floor. Many people we spoke to the room category they paid for and booked was most often not available until the next day. We were compensated with a 25 minutes massage at the spa. Our butler Wensky was non existant after the second day. I sent him messages on the whatsaap to no avail. Thankfully this was our third time so we basiclly knew[... read more] where to go to get the assistance we needed. The staff we approached were so very helpful. Carlos and Flor the beach activity people did a good job of making it fun in the sun for us. Everywhere you looked the staff were smiling and very professional. We had no issues even thinking about covid. We wore masks on the plane but at the resort there was always someone to greet you before meals with hand sanitizer. Because our butler bailed on us we were able to tip other staff more.Even our gardener. We took down almost a full carry on of candies, lip balm and chocolates. The staff loved it.
Breakfast we had always at the buffet for omlettes. Bacon was a hit and miss for availability. Not to sure why.
The Japanese we went to once. It was entertaining but not like it had been in the past. The soya sauce they give you has a high salt content and can ruin the flavors. Try to avoid that.
The restaraunt on the beach was not open for breakfast but had a buffet pretty much the same as the buffet at the main end of the resort for lunch with really good hand made burgers on the grill. The cook on the grill cracked a smile finally when we surprised him with a tip. The watermelon was so sweet and fresh. Kinda funny how that was something I looked forward to every meal.
We ate a couple of times at the Rodeo on the beach. There are many new staff that have never worked in this type of atmosphere before so as a tourist your patience is a must. Some people were very rude to the staff and it is totally not called for. Don,t you remember your first job? I had the beef tenderloin and shrimp. It was not a big steak but very tasty and tender. The Rodeo is an open air place and on the other side of the space is the seafood place. We ordered the lobster and were dissapointed due to the fact it is not the same lobster we harvest in Canada.
We used room service once and had the chicken tenders and french fries. They were better than I expected.
Apparently the Colonial is slated for renos in 2023. Not sure when exacly just something we were told.
The waves in the ocean are to be respected. I got knocked off of my feet while standing on the shore and ended up down the beach in front of the next hotel. The flag was red but the undertow was strong.
All in all it was a very relaxing vacation.
Our room was spacious and the lady who cleaned our room was so sweet. She was an older lady , I wish I had of caught her name. We didn't have our room made up every day.Our fridge was filled with what we used and the guy who took care of that remembered what to leave and what not to leave. For the first time we took a damp rid bag and hung it in the closet where our clothes were. I was surprised how well it worked. The humidity is high naturally and it took that out of our clothes.
Felix and Francisco are butlers but they take the meaning of service and helpfulness to a new level, and they weren't even our butlers. They are the best.
With the price of vacations going up we would like to return to this resort but it's time to start exploring our own Country.

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana All Suite Resort: Group disappointment , sickness
1st I would say the resort itself was well maintained. The cleaning staff for the rooms and general areas did an exceptional job in keeping the resort looking great.
Rooms were very large and the grounds around the pools and beach were constantly cleaned.
Here is our disappointment.
Everyone in our group ( 10 of us) developed some type of stomach problems not once but many times over our 14 days, and 4 of us are still dealing with this since returning home 5 days ago.
We have been away many [... read more]times as a group before in Punta Cana over the last 10/15 years and this has never occurred before. Yes having the odd upset stomach does occur but not as severe as this.
It may have been the water they froze for ice cubes or the tap water they rinsed the cups with but we did notice they way they set the food out in the buffet ( flies all over)and precooked some meat items and left them sitting for long times.
After all of us having problems after about 5-6 days we spoke with Fred (resort manager) and their head chef , changes were made but they seemed to put in place one day then not the next.
Fans were put in around sitting food in the buffet to keep the flies away one day then not the next.
Meat was not precooked then few days later back to the precooked way.
Speaking to other vacationers most were having stomach problems and not happy with the with the food in general and that's why brought to the attention our butler and management.
The resort will apologize which they normally do but that doesn't make up for the money we spent . and the loss of quality of life during our time at their resort and for some still after returning home.
That's why we booked a 5 Star so this wouldn't happen. I could understand if we booked a 3 Star or 2 Star resort but come on ,there should be some kind of guarantee by either the resort or the travel agency for the service they advertise.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Fancy as hell
General areas grand, clean, well kept.
Rooms also well kept.
Booked poolside, was told the number of poolside rooms we booked were not available and they "upgraded" us to 2nd floor close to beach. It is not an upgrade we checked it out.
A la cart restaurants have the best food.

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana All Suite Resort: Worst trip ever!
8 out of 10 of us were sick with diarrhea and or vomiting during our stay. 3 of us are currently receiving medical attention as our symptoms are still present.
We met with the restort manager and head chef during out stay to voice our concerns. Food was being partially cooked and left sitting out in the buffets and flies were all over everything. After we spoke with them we did notice they put out fans to keeps the bugs away. However they were still leaving partially cooked food sitting out.[... read more]

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: It’s not a 5 stars resort!
We would rate this resort 3,5 to 4 stars, not 5! The rooms are old and dirty. Sometimes things just falling apart. It’s a very busy and noisy place. The stuff has no idea about “ invisible “ service or about any respect of guests quiet time, even at night. Two times somebody tried to enter our room after midnight. … There was so many unpleasant things… In two words, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Riu Republica: Party resort
Couple - mid 40’s —Party resort —The resort is ok. The grounds are beautiful. The staff are great and work very hard. No issues at all.
Food- lot’s of variety, great beach, lots of chairs.
HOWEVER—- this is where the review is not good. It’s mostly for 20-30 year old people who love to party to hip hop music. One night we were awakened at 2am by blaring hip hop from one of the rooms. Lasted till after 3am with security being involved. Absolutely no consideration for other people.[... read more] If you want to party there are common areas for that.
A lot of people we talked to also got sick with a stomach virus. Our 3rd day in I got very sick for 9 days.
There were two party pools, crowded, people eating in the pool and particles of food floating around. Didn’t go in those pools because it was gross.
Will never return to this resort for these reasons.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Great resort
Great hotel, needs some maintenance. Staff were awesome and rooms were cleaned.
The food was good, but don't eat the fish I got food poison. The a la carte was good, but they need to make italian a la carte better ( not Italian).
A lovey and clean resort with comfortable beds. Not all of the a la cart restaurants were available to us so we can not comment on this. Some of the servers could not understand English so some of our orders were wrong. Entertainment was the standard resort norm. All in all it was a pleasant and relaxing stay.

Dreams Onyx Resort and Spa: Great stay at Dream Onyx
The resort was overall great. Plenty of food options and activities to do. The only negative is the pool temperature was very cold. Some days we couldn't even swim because the water was too cold. There are plenty of pools at this resort but all of them were very cold.
My husband and I just came back from a fantastic 2 weeks at this resort. We of course, read plenty of reviews prior to our trip and were a bit nervous of our choice due to some of the complaints about food and unfriendly staff. We were very happy to find that these complaints were completely untrue. Those that made those complaints must simply be very very fussy and possibly would be better off vacationing in their own country. We did upgrade to the Level, which I think made our trip. The re[... read more]staurant and bar staff are extremely friendly and courteous throughout the resort
It is a big resort with immaculate grounds. From the lobby to the beach or the level rooms is just a nice 10 minute walk we enjoyed in the evening after eating so much! There is also golf cart and train rides running constantly to take you if you choose not to walk.
The spa is stunning, very nice pools and beach and a good selection of ala cart dining options which offered 4* food. We only ate in the buffet one night (the night we arrived). The butler booked us in ala cart restaurants all the other nights which is fantastic. There are several good options for dinner. The level also has it's own restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner. Steaks and shrimp for lunch...yes please!
We should also mention the wonderful service in the level restaurant (Quimera). The wait staff are amazing! Special thanks to Miguel and Fredy, but all of them were fantastic.
There is a wonderful rooftop bar on top of this restaurant which is great in the evenings with lovely views. (see night-time pic)
The only downside to the resort we seen is the seaweed on the beach and in the water. There is a large amount in the water (obviously not the resorts fault) so we didn't feel comfortable to go in the water. On the beach itself they have a tractor and turf rake to try to clear the seaweed off the beach. However it was not utilized enough and the beach remained pretty dirty.
Our room, as some have said otherwise, was not dated at all. It was decorated very well and have ample storage space. The mini bar is restocked daily and they even leave you snacks to enjoy.
We very much enjoyed the Shaker bar in the evenings which is a specialty Marquita bar. The bartenders there (May Cedano, Estailyn Santos and Rafael Valdez) do an outstanding job, always trying to make your time there an enjoyable one.
A special thank you to Rachel Guindon at Trip Central who went above and beyond to make this a fabulous holiday and 60th Birthday Celebration! Thank you!
All in all a fabulous resort! The Level is a must. We will be back!

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Family Resort
Beautiful hotel. The property is long and narrow so lots of walking to pools, restaurants and beach. Check in was fast and easy. Room was nice with a jacuzzi tub in the center and a swim-out off the deck. Be aware that there is no privacy in the room; a lattice board between beds and shower area. Bedding could use some updating. Beach is lovely although we did have a lot of seaweed for two days. Lots of lounge chairs but they are very close together. No issues with getting shaded areas. Ocean Blue and Sand: Amazing resort
I’ve heard great things about this resort so I booked it by myself and loved it ! The entertainment and the entertainment staff was absolutely fantastic!!!!!! I didn’t think the staff was as friendly or outgoing as I’ve heard they were however still professional and kind , The resort was very very clean and beautiful. The beach buffet staff was my favourite very friendly and always helping and smiling , however the staff at the main buffet not so much there was a few that were amazing but [... read more]overall no smiles had to beg for coffee and the really didn’t go out of their way to clean the tables to seat us or even bring us a coffee , as a server it was very disheartening;( they seemed mad or sad or something I couldn’t figure it out. as soon as they saw I had a tip the demeanour changed and I was royalty and got a smile , although I do understand that it must be hard to serve and not make tips I do think that if they smiled and or look like they were happy they d be making more . That’s the only complaint I had was some of the staff was rude in buffet areas ;( I give the resort a 4 and a half star âï¸ Because they went above and beyond to entertain us and keep the place beautiful!!! Very impressed. Food was good !! I’ll be back and recommend it . Thank you especially Mini Cooper and Loly from the beach buffet for being so nice and accommodating to a solo guest â¤ï¸

Royalton Splash Punta Cana: Not so great
I won’t be going back to royalton splash. We initially booked because it was advertised on royalton splash website that we do have access to some of the restaurants at royalton punta cana (jade, Grazzie) we travelled with my 4 year old son so this sounded great especially for lunch time that we have access to Grazzie to eat when going at the beach. Unfortunately, we got turned around by staff telling us that we aren’t allowed to eat there and that we need to go all the way back to Splash to [... read more]eat. I wrote to the royalton info e-mail to ask why this is advertised on their website that we have access to eat at these royalton punta cana restaurants and till this day no one ever answered me.
We would wait for the shelter bus to come pick us up sometimes even 45 minute to 1H to go from royalton punta cana to splash or vice versa which most of the time it would never come. That also it was advertised that it passes by every 10-15 minutes which is so untrue. We did not bring a stroller for this matter and ended up having to waste our time walking back and forth from a resort to another with a toddler that we had to carry in our arms. The few times we had taken the shuttler we had to almost fight to get a place on it because of the amount of people that were rushing towards it.
We had a day that we stayed at the pool at royalton splash and one of the tourist apparently got sick and vomit in the pool which the staff had to close the pool for the rest of the day and sent us all at the bubble pool. Again, we are with a kid we had to pack all our stuff go to the bubble pool and when arriving there we basically had no chairs nor space where to sit because it was overcrowded and the staff did not added more chairs or made more space keep in mind the that bubble pool is only used for diamond club upgrade. This happened at around 2 pm. I understand that this out of the control of the hotel and staff when situations like this happens however this should have been way better managed by staff especially knowing that the hotel was most likely at full capacity all using one pool that day. We ended up having to go back in the rooms and not be able to enjoy our day because we had to space at the pool.
Knowing that splash hotel is mostly for family and kids I would have thought that they would have some diversity food especially food that kids enjoy at the buffet or restaurants. Fries, chicken nuggets etc. The selection buffet always had the same food and little food for kids. I had to order room service every night for my son to be able to eat something he likes besides bread.
On our last 3 days we decided to upgrade to royalton punta cana we only were able to upgrade our bracelets and not get rooms there. The main reason we wanted to upgrade was to be able to get more variety of food and be able to eat at Grazzie while at the beach instead of coming back at splash. To our surprise we went to grazzie and it was closed and only people from hideaway were able to eat there so upgrading made zero difference to us at this point and wasted money which we thought we would get more convinces from it but did not. Furthermore, we were told that we would be able to enjoy the pools at royalton punta cana when we upgrade our bracelets to our surprise the pools at punta cana royalton had people from splash bracelets with no one telling them that they cannot stay at the pools at royalton punta cana. Again, we respected the policies throughout the week paid more money to get access to more to only find out that it’s a free for all and we basically wasted money for absolutely nothing just because we respected the resorts policies.
On our last day while waiting for the bus to come and pick us up to go to the airport I went to ask at the lobby bar for some water for my toddler to drink. Thankfully I smelled the water before given to him to drink the water smelled like chlorine I went back to the bar and told the waiter there that the water did not smell right only for him to taste it from the big bottle where he pour the water from to tell us that we are right the water is no good….at that point I wasn’t even surprised nor impressed anymore.
I went 7 times to punta cana, it was my favorite destination to go to. Twice of them was at royalton CHIC in the last 6 years. I never made a complaint because I never had to but this trip was just not worth the money. If I would have known that royalton got this bad I would have chooses another resort worth the $ 1.6k that I paid to get the service we paid for while not forgetting that we actually paid even more to upgrade at royalton punta cana.
Furthermore, the mini bar was never restocked. We missed toilet paper in the bedroom because it was never restocked. We missed shampoo also.we called reception for shampoo no one ever came. We called reception for someone to come and help us with the luggages from the second floor to be brought to the lobby no one ever showed up we had to carry 4 luggages down the stairs to the lobby.
The hotel is poorly managed which is unfortunate for the price that costumer pays to go there. I will not be going to any royalton anymore nor recommend it to anyone including CHIC as I am not sure that today they provide the same services that was provided a couple of years ago when I went back twice to CHIC. As far for the royalton chain they should have all the same level of service in order to have costumer recommend this chain to someone else. Unfortunately, I am in distrust with this chain after my experience to royalton splash and punta cana.
