Barcelo Maya Colonial: First full family vacation

Overall we love the Barcelo (stayed at the other ones). This was out first stay at the colonial and it was overall great. The beds and noise were both awful though. Not one good sleep was had! We had asked for rooms close together and they had us at opposite ends of the resort. The first room at night was right by a stairwell and the noise at night from party goers was just awful. First two nights were not great and we asked to switch rooms due to the noise. The second room was a little b [... read more]it more quiet but the bed was nightmarish, sunken and lumpy (same with our first room). We also had a constant flow of ants on the TV cabinet. Overall the vacation was passable but we will not be going back. On top of the hotel, Air Transat was the worst. The reps knew nothing and gave us wrong information on two separate occasions. She even booked the wrong pickup area for an excusion!

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Exceptional

My trip was booked a little last minute and after reading some reviews, I was skeptical and didn't know what to expect. The transition from the airport to the transportation was smooth and the staff on the bus was comical and exceptional. Once I arrived at the hotel, the Bellmen were absolutely a pleasure. Thank you Rafael, Diego, Israel, Cristion to name a few. The grounds were kept in perfect condition and the staff were extremely diligent. Riu Tequila: Great Resort

The grounds at this property are beautiful, and the staff that look after it do an amazing job. This is probably the cleanest resort I have ever been to. The public areas and washrooms are always clean and the cleaning staff do an amazing job. There were 4 ala carte restaurants and 1 buffet restaurant. The restaurants do not take reservations so some can get quite busy at the beginning of dinner time. The buffet restaurant was fantastic and offers a wide variety of different types of foods. I at [... read more]e at 3 of the ala carte restaurants and they were all good. We had a regular room in 3rd block which was conveniently located close to the main lobby as well as one of the pools. The room was quite spacious and very nice. Most nights the entertainment was pretty good. The entertainment team was fantastic and always friendly and happy to answer anything you had questions about. One day they had a foam party in the activity pool and it was quite fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. The beach was across the road and about a 5-7 minute walk through a pathway. The beach was quite large with lots of chairs to use, however not much shade only palm trees to keep the sun out. Even though I was aware of the seaweed problem in the Playa del Carmen area, I was disappointed to see that there was still quite a bit of seaweed there everyday that you had to wade through to get out into the water. The hotel did there best to keep it under control by cleaning it up everyday but it just kept coming back. All in all this was a fantastic resort for all age groups and I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for an all round great time.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Mexico

The resort was good for its food in both speciality and buffets. The staff was very friendly, the beach is limited but very well kept, pools were great and the drinks were awesome. Room that I was in disappointed me but I was just here for the beach and weather.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great family resort!!

We just got back from a fabulous week with our grandkids! There is something to do for everyone! The rooms are spotless and cleaned daily. The pools are amazing and the water park for the kids was a favourite! We loved the fact that sailing and paddleboards were included! It was fabulous snorkeling off the beach! We even saw a Sea Turtle! We would definately return. Oh....the Buffet was pretty good. I woukd not recommend the Speciality Seafood Restaurant. Disgusting. Grand Riviera Princess: Stayed here June 16-23 2022, family of 4 from Toronto

Before I booked this location, as always I poured over the reviews to see what others felt. My family are all adept and flexible travellers however we do expect a certain level of comfort and safety without compromise. Without a doubt, this vacation property met all the criteria and then some. It is not a five star and not advertised that way, probably a solid 4 star. It’s has something for all in the family, a good kids and teens club. The grounds are immaculate and well cared for. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, especially the bathrooms and storage area. One recommendation would be to add just one more chest of drawers in the family rooms, there is not enough drawers or shelves. Also, we did not enjoy the 4 ala carte restaurants we went to, we missed a few others because of excursions. We always seemed to prefer the Chill Out buffet anyway. A massive selection all day, every day and not one is the same as the previous. Also for you Sunwing clients, I found the excursion prices cheaper from Sunwing as apposed to onsite booking. All in all, when your wife and kids say they had a fantastic time then it is a job well done. I do not understand the two and three star ratings at all that some people rate this property at, it’s ridiculous !

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Amazing Hotel!

I would give this hotel 5 star rating!! Beautiful clean rooms, great views, food was really good and staff was super helpful and very friendly . The roof top was amazing. We will definitely go back to this hotel

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Wow, beautiful!

I thoroughly enjoyed the design. The resort is clean and comfortable. The staff is helpful and accomodating. The food is well prepared and consistently good in the buffet restaurants. We enjoyed the Peruvian / Japanese restaurant as well. Thoughtfully prepared meal. The pools are clean. We enjoyed the ocean only a little because the seaweed and surf were rough but that is just nature. The resort had crews doing their best to contend with the seaweed!

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great resort for kids

We came here with a 18 month old and she loved it! The kids area was amazing, staff were nice. Only downside was the check-in process. Waited an hour to check in, and then was told it would take another hour for the room to be ready. After we finally got our room, there was no explanation of where anything was.. the beach is not the greatest, seaweed everywhere (maybe this is seasonal) but we never went into the ocean water.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Disappointed

We usually go at least twice a year to Mexico. For the last few years we stayed at the Bahia Principe Sian Ka‘an. Loved it and got spoiled. After staying home for two years due to Covid, we decided to try the Barcelo Tropical. Westjet was amazing. Trouble started with check-in at the hotel. They did not have our reservations and customer service took my phone and started texting himself. I never ever experienced something like this and still worried about charges on my phone since he took it  [... read more]off airplane mode which I only realized a few days later. And of course no welcome drink, no welcome wet towel etc. Room was great, bed and bedding were amazing. Everything worked except the fan in the bathroom. But we did not bother to call customer service as we wanted to avoid the hassle of arguing and losing valuable vacation time. Food was at times inedible, literally ice cold and the beef as chewy as shoe soles. Most of the times we only ate breakfast. In 15 days we had 5 lunches. We did not bother to get reservations to the restaurants as we were afraid we end up with the same inedible food and wasted a whole evening as at the buffet. Service from anyone in the resort was none existing. After 7 days we still did not get one decent drink so I finally went to customer service. They take the tip, take the bottle from the shelf but switch it to the fake staff when pouring. Customer service heard it all before so they look at you with that look that you bother them. Then our safe could not be opened. I called customer service, someone will be coming. I asked how long, 10-20 minutes. Don’t leave the room as you must be present when the repairman comes. 11/2 hours later we are still waiting. We were there 15 days and always left tips for cleaning and I asked for extra coffee in the room so that we can sit on the balcony and have at least two cups each. Only if I wrote a note did we get extra coffee. We never drank the pop so the coffee would have not cost anything extra to the hotel. Twice the room was not cleaned and we had to use the towels from the floor and coffee was not refilled. So also on our last day. Instead of enjoying our last couple of hours on our balcony all I was looking forward to was the taxi to pick us up. So for what we paid we got 15 nights of good sleep but not one decent drink and tasteless, cold food. Beach was good, beach and pools very clean.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Beautiful Tropical Setting

Just returned from our trip and we were very happy with our choice to travel to this resort!! It is such a lush and tropical location that you cannot stop taking pictures and there are many paths to stroll along and enjoy. Lots of wildlife to see and take pictures of!! The pool is humungous and there is lots of space to feel comfortable enjoying during COVID. The hotel is very strict about masking in the restaurants and won't allow entrance without one. Would definitely book this place again.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Excellent resort

We had a wonderful stay the Fives was great.we enjoyed the food, the rooms were large and Clean.the service was wonderful and the employees were very friendly and Helpful. I would record the resort to others for sure

Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen: Amazing resort!

I had the pleasure of speaking to O'Neil Graham who tremendously helped me out a lot to travel to Mexico by myself for the first time. He was a life saver and guided me through simple action steps on what to do since I missed my flight. Prior to this I was on the phone all day with another airlines/agents and it was such a struggle to communicate with them and they were of no help in regards to my situation. I have been to a few resorts In playa del Carmen this was my first time at this particular resort in all my vacation was good. beach and the food were amazing other then that this resort could have more amenities to keep guest entertained. Good resort for couples but if your traveling with children this not the resort for you

El Dorado Seaside Palms: No where near 5 stars

This resort at best on a good day is a three star resort for Mexico. It is advertised as a 5 star resort on most sites likely due to the success of there hard sell tactics to get guests to buy memberships and these poor souls in tern provide these inaccurate reviews to protect their investment. We saw many unhappy guests who were savvy to the hussle and know what a 5 star resorts entails in Mexico. To be fair, most staff were very nice and each restaurant had some good dishes but they all fell s [... read more]hort from what's expected by a 5 star resort. All the rooms are dated and not being kept up. The smart tvs are not set up for Netflicks etc. And the wifi is too slow to cast etc. Our fist room flooded, the toilet and TV didn't work and our upgraded room had a better view but the jets on the tub did not work, nor did the slidi g door lock and again trouble with the TV. The food outside a few dishes was horrible, no fresh OJ ever and they try to pass off watered down juice as fresh. The entertainment was second rate and the personal concierge admitted their job is to sell guests memberships. We made the best of it but I will not cushion this review. We have traveled extensively and know what 5 stars requires. For the money you can do better without feeling hussled at every turn.

El Dorado Royale: Nice resort.

Excellent resort to spend quiet and relaxing time walking through the coconut trees. Not good for people who are looking to swim on the ocean’s beach, only swimming option is the pools, where you have many pools to choose from. All dinings were good, my only comment is on the Fuentes restaurant, where the chef teaches you how to cook your diner dishes. My complaint is on the heavy smoke in the restaurant that makes me hard to breathe and my clothes smell the smoke for days after the diner. Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Jungle paradise!

First time to the resort and loved it! The rooms are so nice, modern decor, every pathway through the resort is lush and beautifully maintained. I wanted to take pics everywhere, just so tropical and beautiful. We had an issue with our room key, they sent help and resolved it super quickly. I'm vegan and found so many delicious options at the a la cartes and buffets. Coffee is DELICIOUS (love that they can make the drinks with soy milk). We brought our own towels so that we didn't risk losing ours and paying $50 USD. We saw monkeys at the ceynote on site, checked out the dolphin show, played water polo, beach volleyball, etc etc (the pool entertainment team is the best). Had an amazing time and will definitely be back to this resort! We had fresh fruit delivered to our room, a complimentary bottle of champagne- really made us feel special. Felt totally safe with all the precautions the resort takes for Covid (mask requirement at meals, staff wearing masks, tables and rooms marked as sanitized, hand sanitizer available throughout the resort etc). So many good things to say about this resort!

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: A place to relax

This was our second time at this resort. The last time was in 2016. This time was much the same. Although there are some things that were different that the resort had no control over like the massive mounds of seaweed on the beach and bad weather ( only 4 days). We appreciated how hard they worked to remove the seaweed every day. Some days it seemed like a losing battle. But when there is no seaweed event the beach is one of the best anywhere, and the snorkeling is so awesome here! The safe was temperamental at times and they sent a repair guy one day. It worked as long as you don’t rely on seeing the numbers on the digital window, so we managed. No big deal. The food is really great and the staff are amazing. We would recommend this resort and will probably return.

Stylish. Convenient. Clean. Friendly staff. Exquisite facilities. Beautiful beach and Dolphinarium. Very good for families with children. Everyone can find something to do there. Truly enjoyed the stay.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Beautiful huge resort

The food was amazing although we were only there a short time for business so we ate at the buffet. Room service was excellent and prices were very reasonable All the staff were very polite and professional, from lobby to security The grounds are beautifully manicured and well kept The room was an amazing surprise for the size and decor.
