We were disappointed that we did not get the first floor as requested and had to climb 32 stairs to our "old" room that was right above the bar and the nightly entertainment. The room was in need of some updates.. Beach was beautiful...would recommend this resort for the beach alone ... But the pool liner was torn in several places and not much shade available. We have been to Cuba about 16X over the last 20 years and we saw signs of improvement in the dining over the years but it seems to have[... read more] taken a step back...the buffet was identical for our 7 days & the options were not appealing. The service at the bar was extremely poor...and we are tippers! We decided this would be our last vacation to Cuba!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Decent resort for the cost
Nice property. Spacious. Beach was wonderful. Large clean pools. Room was good - hot water Firm bed and good A/c Food was ok -as expected in Cuba. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food needs to be labelled better. No shrimp available on resort for entire week. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Budget Five Star
The best thing about this resort is the beach! The rooms were great and A La Carts. Outside of that the buffet was a nightmare, pool crowded or all spots taken but pool towels and no people...
Not much in terms of entertainment unless you want to sit next to the clubhouse by the pool. We were left many times with dirty towels in the rooms after the cleaners came through and never enough water!
If you want beach and nothing else this is a great spot.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: nice place
we enjoyed the beach and ocean ,the rooms were nicely appointed had a nice ocean view.
I find the layout in the dining area needs attention. the main buffet is blocked off by visitors standing in line for make to order items.
the food was not really to my liking but I made due .
people are brutal placing there towels the night prior on chairs etc by pool this should be better monitored by hotel.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Pros and Cons
We had a good holiday at this resort. We have travelled to Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, and many cruises over many years so have a pretty good understanding of what to expect when travelling south.
Pros:
This resort is a nice size. It is manageable without too much walking or an impersonal feeling. It has a tropical vibe with a good layout. There is a main building and villas situated on either side of the main area. We stayed in the top floor of the main building and had an excellent view of the [... read more]resort and the beach. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality, choices, and overall taste of the food. This was the best food we have enjoyed in Cuba. There were stations of freshly cooked foods at breakfast, lunch, and supper including omelettes, chicken, stir fry, and fish. The a la carte Mexican and Italian restaurants were great. I am a picky eater and I was able to find foods I could enjoy every meal. The staff worked hard and were friendly and accommodating. They were appreciative of tips and interacted positively but were never pushy. Line-ups were relatively short and it never felt chaotic. The entertainment staff was positive and upbeat. The staff playing volleyball at the beach were entertaining and really tried to get people involved. Our room was well-appointed with renovations like newer tiles and bathrooms.
Cons: There were mosquitos. We did see that the resort tried to address the problem by spraying, but some members of our family did get a lot of bites especially at night. Although the food was good, there were shortages such as running out of things like jam, orange juice, chicken, and wine. We were told this was an issue in the area and not specific to this resort. Hot water was an issue in our section of the resort as well. We had two rooms on the same floor and one had hot water and the other had none. The front desk staff initially attributed it to lack of sun resulting in solar panels not working optimally but had no answer as to why a few rooms down we had hot water. After a couple of days we were eventually moved to another room on the same floor that did have hot water but it took persistence on our part. They also offered us complimentary massages and tried to rectify the situation as best they could. The beach is beautiful and wide. However, there is a lot of seaweed in the water which meant that you could only swim out to your waist at best comfortably. Pilar beach is a stunning beach 10 minutes away so we went there to enjoy some waves and the chance to really experience the water. Considering Pilar beach is so accessible, the beach quality would not prevent me from returning to this resort, but I was disappointed by so much seaweed in front of the resort. Overall, we had a great holiday at this resort. The people were wonderful, the weather was pleasant, the food was delicious, and the resort had a cosy and upbeat vibe.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: You get what you pay for.!
Hotel was clean. Staff friendly. Beach and pool are nice but needs more umbrellas. People get up early to reserve their chairs at the beach and pool. So they can have some shade .
They need to redo the layout of the buffet station. People line up for the carving stations and block the access to the other food on buffet. It gets frustrating . Food is not that great. Been to Cuba a 5 times and I dont expect the food to be great , but serving cold burgers and french fries just doesnt[... read more] cut it.
Have to call in every day for water and coffee for your room. Only give you one bottle to share for the whole day.
I know it's a new resort. But it feels like they just do the bare minimum.

Gran Muthu Imperial: The beach is the ONLY positive
Nothing more to say than if the beach was not as beautiful as it was the trip would be a complete disaster. Check in is a forced entire group waiting room in which they take all passports and make you wait for an enterinty. No bread, 20 buffet stations and the majority was a variation of hotdogs, to many people and too few staff to handle the load. Tryp Cayo Coco: Friendly staff, good buffet, average facilities
Tryp has all the basics you would expect at a Cuban hotel. Based on other reviews, I thought it would be a step up, but not really the case. Go with your expectations set that this will be like the standard Cuban hotel. First time I was there so I can't compare, but based on conversations with other travellers, it was hit hard by the hurricane. They have rebuilt the entrance, dining room area and it is serviceable but nothing fancy (apparently beautiful before). Their disco isn't open so th[... read more]ey use the snack bar. They lost a beach restaurant and pizza snack bar and these are still not rebuilt. Travellers seem to be avoiding this hotel so it was half empty, a la cartes were closed/on rotation, sections of the dining room not open. The good news is line ups for made to order food (fried rice, pasta, fish, etc) in the buffet are short (ala carte meals were very weak). Able to get clean towels, lounger by the pool etc. The beach is beautiful, one of the best I have seen in Cuba (vs Santiago, Santa Lucia, Veredero, Holguin). Staff are some of the friendliest I have met - William, Eduardo, Damien. I found the food to be better than other Cuban hotels, with a lot of choice. Recommend taking a Classic Car into Moron - Abel Salazar was our driver and he was fantastic. Not sure I will return to Cayo Coco because it is meant for a lazy beach vacation, and I like to see local villages by biking/walking which isn't available there. The locals are separated by the Causeway and a toll, so you are mostly stuck on the resort strip with limited interaction.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beach paradise
After our 3rd visit to Memories Flemenco we can’t deny that our main draw was the beach. It did not disappoint and neither did the staff working along the beach. The front desk and bell men. We’re Always attentive and helpful and courteous. Unfortunately the resort itself is looking a little worn...rooms/beds were in need of upgrading and the plumbing was an issue in our first room. We do not go to Cuba for the food and we are very easy to please but this time coupled with how busy the r[... read more]esort was, the buffet staff and snack bar staff were less attentive and took to long to serve us. The food options for this resort need to be improved to make it a 4.5 star. One buffet just isn’t enough and it was hard to find viable food options. Also, we only booked for 5 days and were only able to secure one reservation for 8:30 on our last nite. That was too late disappointing.
Overall, we came for the beach and the sun which did not disappoint but had we gone at a less busy time it may have been a better experience. The personal touch from some staff just didn’t shine through the way we have come to remember this resort. Will maybe go back in a few years if the reviews improve.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Disappointed
Honestly not sure where to start! Starts with a beautiful beach, loved the beach, sun and sand. As for the hotel I'm disappointed in cleanliness and the staff willing to help with anything. There was only one bartender that was actually helpful with poring drinks. Limited staff, definitely short staffed and slow. Unfortunate that the staff wasn't trained up to any other country standards. I would have been bored if the weather wasn't so amazing. Limited day time activities. An[... read more]d nightlife was almost none existant. But overall I had a good time meeting people and swimming.

Melia Cayo Coco: Paradise beach and Older Clean Resort
Overall the experience was a seamless experience from the bus ride to the hotel from the airport to the last day. Food a plenty (maybe too much!!!) fresh, variety and good quality (perhaps a bit more flavor). Sun drenched days by the pool (don't forget to use the clean sauna and masseuse Jose!) followed by evening sunsets by the beach.
The value of the beach/water and the food was enough for me. Yoga in the morning a great way to begin your day - the instructors from the animator team were f[... read more]abulous and informed!
The activity programming included tennis, archery, dancing, spanish lessons, volleyball and yoga.
If you are looking for a recharge especially in the winter months of canadian tundra. This is it. Moron is a mini-havana and worth a trip to visit. Yummy restaurants too.
Nice clean resort, staff are wonderful. Any issues were resolved quickly. Best beach I have ever seen. Food was good, Diamond club was a great option. We are already considering a return next year. Great recommendation by Marnie at TripCentral.

Hotel Playa Coco: We’ll Spend a little extra and go elsewhere – An honest review
First, we are not picky or uptight people and when we travel to Cuba, we tend to stay in resorts that are either a 4* or 4+*. When we booked, this resort was listed as a 4* and I noticed that about 2 weeks before we left it was listed as a 3.5*. I read the reviews (good and bad), I joined the Facebook group for the hotel (there are 2), I prepared us for everything we could possibly need based on the reviews. We went with an open mind and low expectations. Also, keep in mind this was our e[... read more]xperience, it may or may not have been or will be yours.
We arrived around 9:30 p.m. Friday night and received our room right away. We were in building 4, room 4302. It appeared to be a renovated room based on the beautiful walk in shower but it also looked like a rushed job based on the paint all over the tiles in the bathroom. The first things we noticed right away in the room was that there were no beach towels, there was not enough shower towels for all of us, the safe was locked and, the toilet leaked all over the bathroom floor! We called the front desk about the safe, and they sent someone right away to fix it and had shower towels brought to us and mopped up the floor. We went out to check out the resort and grab something to eat and noticed right away the resort looked empty. There is zero nightlife at this resort. Once the shows are over, everyone disappears so it’s pretty boring if you’re a night owl. By the time we got back to our room it was midnight. My husband went to pull back the covers on our bed and a 2.5†GIANT cockroach fell out of our blankets and there were no-see-ums all over the pillow and between the mattress and headboard of the bed. I realize this is NOT the resorts fault but this was a deal breaker for me. I was either moving rooms or sleeping standing up. He called the front desk and we were told they couldn’t do anything about it, there were no other rooms ready tonight. I wasn’t sleeping standing up so my daughter and I went to the front desk – and within 10 minutes they had us checking out a new room but were told that if we moved we would have to move ourselves as there was no one there to help. So we moved from building 4 (4302) to building 9 (9302) at 1:00 a.m. which was an upgrade as it was beach front. The room was fine. I’m not sure if it was completely renovated or not. It had a tub/shower combo, not a walk in shower which was completely fine either way. We woke up in the morning and our vacation was looking up.
That is pretty much all of the major excitement for our week so I’ll touch on things we observed or experienced. A lot of the things wrong with this resort are quick fixes that management should definitely take seriously and fix them
THE BEACH – AMAZING. The most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Zero complaints. Off to the left side (behind Building 4 & 5) there’s a small reef where you can do some snorkelling. You’ll see a blanket of white fish of all sizes and some little white fish with yellow and black stripes. My husband even seen a barracuda over there. ‘
The Buffet – Repetitive selections and not much flavour. I stuck to the chicken, potatoes & rice. Veggies were always over cooked and bring your own salad dressing if you wish to eat salad. Omelet station was great but when they ran out of eggs, that was it there were no more (no matter the time). There was also a smoothie station and crepe station but there were many days of our 7 that there was no syrup for them.
The Japanese Restaurant – We went twice. It was delicious but better the 1st time – but still very good the 2nd time around.
The Staff – Amazing!!! No complaints and always had pleasant interactions with the staff.
The Seafood Restaurant – I don’t recommend ordering the Shrimp with Vegetables. The resort had water issues the day we went to this restaurant, although they used it as an excuse for the 2 hour wait (we were the 1st table in the restaurant), my daughter’s meal (the chicken) was served 30-40 minutes before ours and the sides were no different than what ours were. My husband had the salmon, he said it was good and the portion was generous. They also ran out of chicken almost immediately. Some people didn’t even get their meals.
The Rooms – The beds were comfortable, an extra pillow would be nice. The pillows are long and you only get one (rooms with 2 beds) so if you’re sharing a bed, you’re sharing a pillow. Our room did smell a bit musty and was a bit damp at times. I brought room spray with me so that took care of the smell. Not much I could do about the dampness.
The Beach Towel issue at this resort is a real struggle. Bring your own. Don’t 2nd guess it, it’s a bonus if you get them. We waited 4 days and were lucky. Some guests we spoke to didn’t get them at all.
Toilet Paper is an issue all over the resort and even in your room. We had 3 maids in 3 days and I had to ask for a back up roll every time. No matter how much was left on the roll the maid wouldn’t’ leave a back up in the room. Once our regular maid (same from day one) returned from her 2 days off, she made sure we had a back up roll. . There were occasions that there was zero toilet paper in the common bathrooms (the one at the snack bar didn’t have any), the one by the buffet was hit or miss and the one in the lobby was out of service our whole trip and we were told to use the men’s.
Internet cards - $1.00 each for 1 hour – Decent wifi service in the lobby and by the pool.
Our excursions were perfect. We went horseback riding at Memories Flamenco on the beach. It was $15 per person for 1 hour. It was a beautiful experience. The horses were great and tame and knew exactly what they were doing and where they were going. You can book this excursion through your tour rep. You just have to ask them to set it up for you.
We also did the 1/2 day catamaran tour on the Wednesday on the Intrepido ! The crew was amazing, you get one snorkel stop, a lobster (or chicken) lunch and stop at a sand bar for swim! The half day is really all you need unless you’re a huge snorkel person. It was a great day and we were back at the resort by 2:30.
Entertainment – We can’t really comment on the Entertainment as we didn’t go to all of the shows – The quiz show was fun and interactive.
Based on our experience, we will not return to this resort but I do see why people to return for the beach and the people.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Good resort
Expected it to be a bit nice for only being 1 year old. Service and food could have been better but overall it was good. Pool beds and chairs in the dining room were quite dirty. We would have liked there to be more a la carte restaurants...3 is not sufficient. We should have been able to go more than 3 times during our stay as well. The buffet dining room needs to work on the set up of the area to allow for better flow when getting food.
