Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful resort!

The rooms were spacious and well maintained. Loved the lobby/bar area. Great pools and entertainment area. Multiple restaurants with plenty of food options to choose from. One of the best beaches In Cayo Coco.

Hotel Vigia: Beautiful beach and ocean

My hubby and I flew from Hamilton on Air Transat on 24th Feb and stayed at SCG for 2 weeks. We flew out in very strong winds so the plane had to be lightened which meant leaving behind 28 suitcases. Fortunately for us our cases arrived with us and the others were to be sent on the next day. Our room 919 on the second floor was kept clean daily by our maid whose name I forget. She made sure we had clean towels every day and sheets were changed when needed. We had lots of hot water and a comfy [... read more] king size bed. Our room was close to everything but care had to taken when going up the stairs as a lot of bars on the railing was missing. This resort needs many renovations and I read that it will close in May to do some of them. Food was good for Cuba and we enjoyed chicken, fish and pork cooked at the stations and really enjoyed the smoked salmon and shrimp, Cuban ice cream is the best, so delicious. We ate in the Mediterranean, Cuban and Italian al a carte's and found the food to be very good. The Lobby bar and Theatre bar had great cappuccinos and espressos and the staff were fast and friendly. All the staff at this resort always had a smile on their faces. We found Reception staff to be fast, efficient and pleasant and as we arrived late, they informed us that the snack bar had stayed open for us and to go eat and then they would find someone to take our luggage up to our room...which they did. Our friends joined us for our second week but they were not as fortunate as we were. The room they were given was at the very far end of the resort, a long walk, along a dark path. As we are all seniors this was not a good situation for them. They were told they would be moved the next day. That did not happen as the resort was full. It took 2 days to get a room closer to everything and then they had to wait until 5p.m. because reception or it may have been Customer Service allowed the present occupants to pay 10 pesos an hour to stay in the until 3p.m. Needless to say our friends were very upset. Once in the room they were happy for 2 days and then hot water for first shower and cold for second shower. Next day no water at all. They were offered another room but of course who wants to keep moving. This was an 80th birthday vacation for our friends so I tried to arrange a surprise dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant for the Mon. or Tues. through Customer Service. They told me a cake would be ordered and champagne. After much back and forth to Customer Service, we finally got a reservation but no cake. Apparently they took so long to arrange it that the cake was not fit to eat. I told my friend the story and we all had a laugh..Surprise.. no cake...lol All in all for my husband and myself it was a good holiday, nice memories with our friends. A good holiday for our friends but a bad taste in the mouth regarding the rooms. This resort will not be a repeat place for us all to go but I think a good place for families as the children seemed to have a good time and the lady who did child care was lovely.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Cheap and Cheerful - Great resort for the money! 2nd Stay at this resort (formerly Pestana)

The resort is very quaint and has everything you need to enjoy your vacation. The best beach I've every experienced other than Barbados. The excursions are very reasonable priced so you can safely go off and explore. Take advantage and walk right across the sea floor to the end of the bay, prestine water and snorkelling. Excursions, book them through the tour rep right in the lobby, very convenient and charge to credit card. I highly recommend the half day jet boat and mangrove snorkel trip, amazing only $70 Cuban. You travel in a nice coach bus which gives you an hour view of the country side, see other resorts and the marina which is located in Cayo Guerrimo (I think next year that's were we will stay) near the Marina. Recommend either Hobie Cat or Glass bottom boat snorkel tour for 20 Cuban in the Corel Reef which is amazing to experience. If you are on a budget, take your own Mask, flippers and snorkel and for free you can take out a paddle boat and dive off into the beautiful water and snorkel. We pulled a live star fish out of the water, put it back of course, but amazing. Cheap horseback riding on the beach for $15 Cuban. Do not need to convert money before you go on the trip. The rooms are very comfortable, beds are not Hilton mattresses but clean and spacious, 1 bottle of water per day you can get refilled at the bar because you should drink the tap water. No beer or pop in fridge unless you are Priority guest but you can buy cans in the resort store cheap and put in the fridge. Not really necessary to upgrade but there is a Priority section with chairs and cabanas satellite TV with movies in English, WIFI in lobby cheap $1 Cuban for an hour. Shows are pretty good and the bars are very quick to serve you. Fresh tried fish at the beach bar and a great buffet close to the beach if you do not want to go back to the main buffet. Recommend Al a Carte Cuban and Italian, other two are so, so. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is more than adequate, don't expect steak and lobster but their is plenty to eat. We were lucky enough last week to catch the Buena Vista Social club live band play at a local bar, amazing show. You can get a Spanish coffee, cappuccino, beer or mixed drink and snack 24/7 at this resort, if you mix breakfast they make an amazing ham/cheese Panini in the snack bar available 24 hours also Poutine. Bring some games or playing cards and sit in the lobby and hang out. You never have to flight for a lounge chair anywhere at this resort. We used the gym which is adequate, clean and safe, you can walk around this resort easily they do not run a train system unless you need assistance they do have them. There is a kids club for babies and tots, they seem to enjoy it, kid pool and trampoline very close to adult pool, so you can have time on your own. They have some activities during the day at the pool but best part is that they don't blast loud tunes all day, mainly late afternoon water polo game which is entertaining. Most people hand a the beach. Again, if you like to adventure you can get on the Hop on Hop off bus for $5. Not much shopping but cheap rum and cigars available right a the resort lobby. If you want 5* hotel, I would not recommend, you should look at other properties. Kids should download movies on their tablets for the week unless they want to watch TV movies. During the day no issues, but smoking is permitted around the lobby bar so if you are a non-smoker and it bothers you, sit up front during the shows.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Friendly resort

The beach is extraordinary. Clean with many lounge chairs and shade. Friendly service with a smile. Fresh fish, chicken, beef and pork grilled to your liking. Healthy salad bar options. Custom pasta, omelet, fried rice, smoothie and icecream stations. You are on holidays...be patient, smile and breath. Cappuccinos with natural sugar cane stick were a nice treat at the lobby bar. Hotel Vigia: Will not return to this resort

This hotel has the nicest beach area and the grounds are lovely and well taken care off, the Cuban staff are so very helpful and nice, but the management have a lot to learn about tourist, We just came back two weeks ago from S.C. G. and had quite a few problems there that took two days to put us into a room that was a long walk to the restaurants etc. we are an elderly couple with walking problems, the first room was not suitable for us, we had already booked a room closer to the restau [... read more]rant area, but had to keep checking at the desk for help, the second room was much better and closer but alas, no hot water. WE were a party of four, and all of us have been to Cuba and Cayo Coco many times, but will not return to this resort until the management has been changed.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great lobby, entertainment, beach however,.....

There are many positives and some things that are just 'typically Cuba' and you need to accept and not let it wreck your holiday. Positives: As always, beach and turquoise water is the best. Lots of lounge chairs at pool and beach. Very nice pool areas too. Beautiful main lobby building which is important as that is your evening. Good entertainment in lobby before the 'big show'. It makes a nice break from the buffet but sometimes we'd go there after our reservation to top up on dessert. Loved their desserts and fresh baked breads. Good omelette stations too. Negatives: Surprisingly small buffet for a large resort. We found the food salty but could always find something to eat. Some washrooms either don't have toilet paper, toilet seat or a working door. Be selective and be prepared with your pack of tissues. Not a big deal. It always made the trip interesting. As this is a newer resort, the vegetation, palm trees are not as mature and fulsome. We love the tropical grounds so this was somewhat disappointing but did not make or break our holiday. We did not get a new bottle of water in our room for 3 days despite calls and visits to customer service. A little frustrating! We did bring our on reusable water bottles and got them filled at the bars and restaurants. Would recommend doing that.

Hotel Mojito: Nice resort

First time in Cayo Coco and we enjoyed many different aspects of this trip. We did horse back riding in which they accommodated 8 of us which was in our group and that was slot of fun. Got nice pics on the beach with our horses! We did snorkeling which was a lot of fun. Alot of fish - was a good excursion! Great entertainment ! Good food and service!! Beautiful beach- amazing !! Would go back. Would recommend this to friends and family.

Hotel Mojito: Amazing Beach & Ocean

We were a group of 8 travelling during March Break which consisted of 2 adults and 8 teens. They put us in 3 rooms next door to each other which was appreciated. We had an amazing time. The most amazing beach and sand. The hotel was very clean and our room was spacious. Only downside were the European guests. They were pushy and rude and will steal your reserved lounge chairs.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Needs work

This hotel needs a lot of work. 5th time in Cayo Coco and would not return to this resort. Many calls to maintenance, poor food and very noisy. Beach and pool facilities are very good but kids club pool badly in need of maintenance. We will go elsewhere next.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Suppose to be adult only!!!

My husband and I recently returned from the Gran Muthu Imperial Cayo Coco. We were there to celebrate a nice relaxing 39th wedding anniversary. The hotel is a beautiful resort. The facilities are top notch super clean, the staff so friendly and going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It was definitely a five star resort for the first two days of our stay. The service plummeted, the staff became overwhelmed, and the students took over the entire resort! It was on that day the we began talking with our Transat representative, Danielle. We explained to Danielle, that this is an adult only resort, and that these kids should not be here. Danielle said that in Cuba the age for an adult is 16! We then explained that on the Transat website the adult age for this hotel is 18+. Danielle said she would look into it and that we could get back to her the next day. The next day Danielle told us that she submitted a claim to Transat voicing our concerns and that we should look into it once we get back home. Danielle was unable to give us a copy of what she sent to you saying it was not allowed. We spent a lot of our time going to see Danielle almost everyday to update her on what was happening with these kids and what they were up to. The hotel did offer us and upgrade to a nicer room, but what would that have given us? The room we had was beautiful (8112)! It was not the room that was the problem it was the toxic environment that the hotel created! I will now highlight some of what we experience over the next week while they were there. Talked to two girls at the pool, they confirmed that they were only 16, they were traveling with there sisters who were the graduates. They stayed up all night partying, screaming and yelling! Where was security? They puked in the flower beds & on the pool deck. You had to watch where you walked until the staff had enough time to clean it up. One student puked in the theatre at night. He passed out and they had to drag him out. They loaded him head first into the back of a tricycle that had a box on the back. They took him to the clinic where apparently they gave him intervenise! On another day, a girl on the beach was so drunk should could hardly get out of the water. Her friends (if you could call them that) helped her to a chair that was in the sun, took pictures of her and laughed at her for the rest of the day. Another day they used one of the brand new side tables that were provided at the beach to dig in the sand to make holes and we did not stay to see what for! A-la-Carte restaurants are semi formal. One night my husband and I were enjoying a nice dinner when four girls walk in. Three of them were wearing tank tops and cut off shorts, the other a bath towel over her bathing suit.....Yes I did say a bath towel! I went to the front lobby to ask what the dress code was, they responded by saying that I looked nice...I told them about the girls and they sent customer service. 10 minutes after I arrived back at the restaurant customer service did arrive. They talked to the girl in the towel, and then left. The girls all started laughing once they were alone. None of them left the restaurant to go and change. We talked to another couple after that evening and they said that the same thing happened to them on another evening. Enjoyed go to the lobby bar each evening, as they played beautiful music and couples would dance and enjoy the atmosphere. Once the kids got there forget that. They would try to sing the words as a group and jumped all around trying to dance. It just became a loud and annoying place to be! They upgraded a couple that we meet to give them a better spot, only to find out that they now had them in the rooms above, below and on either sides. The kids loved to party on their balconies, I don't think I need to say more about that. To add to our ordeal, which we do not blame anybody; On our last day we got our wake up call at 5.30 a.m., got up no electricity and water. My husband when to the front desk and they were aware. He had to almost beg for them to lend him a flashlight so we could finish packing. We also could not get coffee and breakfast before leaving for the airport. In closing I want to express again how beautiful the hotel and staff were on our first days there. They did a wonderful job with the design of the hotel, and this is a place I would definitely return to if it was truly adults only. However as explained above this was suppose to be a relaxing, quiet, romantic 39th wedding anniversary. It turned out to be something quit the opposite from what we specifically asked for. We paid extra money to upgrade to an adult only resort, and did not get what we paid for. My star ratings below are based on our first two days there.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: This resort was satisfactory.

If you have traveled to Cuba you will understand my comments. Food was satisfactory and generally the same each day. Restaurants were ok. The rooms were clean and roomy. The beach had rock buried in the sand so you need shoes. There really isn't a walkable beach. You can get on a bus and go to a very nice beach and it is only 3 to 4 minutes. The restaurant at this beach although it doesn't look like much had very good fish and lobster. I would recommend this. Bring toilete paper. And yes y [... read more]ou can run out of paper at the resort in the lobby washrooms. Always have a napkin with you. The people were great and provided very good service. Pools were nice and have some algae on the walls. No walkable beach on site as I mentioned. They have a bar and kind of a boardwalk on the beach. You can walk out into the water which is nice. I would recommend it with an explanation.

Melia Costa Rey: Great resort was impressed 👍

For Cuba standard this resort was the best I have ever stayed at. Gorgeous lobby and grounds and the beach was wonderful. I was also pleasantly surprised by the food and the French restaurant was excellent!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: A true escape

Beautiful property and location. Outstanding people that work there. Great vibe. Food was so-so, but the huge selection allowed everyone to find something they would like. The lobby and lobby bar were a great central hub to the resort. Beach is unbelievable.... Literally...... When you see it, you have a hard time believing that you're there.... Something many only see in pictures. Will definitely return.

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: The most terrible experience ever

The resort says they have in-room safe's, and a mini-bar fridge. Not true at all. I had to hid my passport, visas, monies, cellphone behind a headboard hoping they would not be discovered. As for camera and laptop I had to lock them in my suitcase hoping that wouldn't walk away. The patio door had simple bolt locks that if you were to kick the door in you could. I never felt safe. The resort was busy and the staff was limited. Very long waits at the buffet. So early mornings if you were about wa [... read more]lking you would see garbage's overfilled and litter everywhere, dirty tables from spilt drinks, dirty lobby. Overflowing public washroom was a recurring theme. Forget about your sheets being washed. As for the rooms they may have swept them and even mopped them but they were not disinfected. I got travellers diarrhea and I picked up a parasite which is extremely painful. I didnt stay my full two weeks.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Best Resort!

This resort is quaint and authentic. Some resorts are so modern, institutional looking. Not Iberostar Daiquiri. Lots of lush greenery. The hotels look like haciendas. The rooms are great with hot (very warm at least) water showers! Fridge was ice cold and refreshed daily. Awesome view and beach. Food was good with great a la carte's--we did Cuban and Italian.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Beautiful resort!

The most wonderful, kind and attentive staff ... but very busy. (After all, it was March Break!) Some concerns around food set up areas and also the availability of self serve quick snacks, but all in all, it was enjoyable.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Excellent!!!!!!

Better than expected ! Was a little disappointed with the fact that beach was limited ! But after a couple of days realized it was quite beautiful cause it's secluded in a little bay and no big waves and turbulence !! Excellent swimming conditions and crystal clear water !! Love it !!Would defenatly go back !!

it was not a 4 plus star rating hotel in the least.if you wanted a chair by the pool in the mornings you had to find a pool guy to get you a chair as it seem to me they had them stock piled some where and you had to tip them for getting you a chair.the line-ups at the buffet were 45 minutes or longer the choose was the same every night. the al-crates we had 3 of them 2 were the same because they said the others were all full by the time i booked them. i booked the ala-crates the wednesday when w [... read more]e arrived on the tuesday.

The beach was beautiful. Rooms acceptable. Typical buffet food for Cuba, edible but nothing to write home about. The a la cartes were surprising good (Asian, Mediterranean, Italian). The pools were not very clean, but I didn't spend much too much time at them. Most staff were generally friendly and helpful.
