Riu Merengue: my husband and i were at the riu bachata not riu merengue

very friendly and helpful staff the grounds were well groomed ,my husband is in a wheelchair and was able to access all areas of the resort .our room was a disabled room which made our vacation stress free .when we arrived at the resort due to miscommunication we had no disabled room available but the sunwing representative looked after us and in no time there was a room available.we enjoyed ourselves met a lot of nice people if our health continues we are booking for next year.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great resort!

I have recently returned from the Viva Wyndham V Heavens and had a great time. The resort is small ans is ideal for solo traveller like me. The resort is well laid out and best of all is the free wi-fi, even on the beach. I have met many travellers and even made some friends. The animation crew were great - did Zuma, dancing lesson, water aerobics, etc. Although the resort has 4 à-la-carte restaurants, not all were opened. Contrary to the Sunwing brochure, the buffet was opened during supper  [... read more]time. I had no issues with the the food, although I found the Blend to be the best - especialy the salmon. I had the Bliss room, located on block #2, and does not have a balcony. It is a small room and is ideal for a solo traveller or a couple. I usually travel with my sister and I would not have seen the both of us in the same room. I did miss not having a balcony but it was not a major issue, I still enjoyed my room. The maid cleaned my room every day and I had left her a tip and small gifts. I was surprised on how nice the beach was. There were a lot of waves but we were still able to go in the water . You can have a long walk on either side of the beach. There were vendors but they did not bother me, probably because I was alone. There is a shopping mall 5 minutes from the resort. The price were better than the shop at the resort and at the airport. I would define try return to this resort.

Riu Merengue: Good times at Riu Merengue

Little ways from Puerto Plata makes this place nice and quiet. The food is good but I would add some day to day variety. The eastern part of the beach is more swiming friendly, although not a spot for snorkeling. The staff is awesome and really friendly everywhere on the resort. As far as the activities outside the resort, I suggest to use the packages sold at the resort; if you're trying to do it on your own, you will most likely ending paying more to get less. Bring some tip money!!!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: DISSAPOINTING RESORT.BAD MANAGEMENT

After being at this hotel 5 times now and my traveling companion 3 ,I can say this was the first time I have been very disappointed. in the room mostly. the first room we were given was not the cleaniness,i had grown to expect from this resort, .we only had one electrical plug and that was in the bathroom. one side of the double bed had an extension cord coming from behind the headboard to plug in a charger .that was all except the tv in Spanish. behind the headboards WERE A MASS of electri [... read more]cal wires with no mar connectors on the end. since this is where the extension cord was coming out off it. we assumed they were live. we went to desk to complain and ask for another room said we couldn't get moved till next day. I asked for an upgrade to a vip room which was what we requested ,even if I had to pay more and we were not even taken seriously. the room we were given was a downgrade not upgrade .there were Robes and Towels in the first room. when we asked for them back for the second room we were told that they were for VIP only. After returning to this resort many times .I expected better service than this. They gave us Silver bracelets instead of green BIG DEAL. they didn't mean anything except advertising for the resort that we were returning clients .after two days of our vacation being ruined trying to get what we requested. we realized they were catering to the first timers. hoping they would come back. not us after many times we were there .very disappointing vacation..we have recommended this resort to many friends since I started going there 10 years ago. but will not recommend it again to anyone..............

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Casa Marina Reef Resort - Sousa Dominican Republic

My 79 year old father and I spent a week at the resort from March 30 to April 6. The food was good, the staff were excellent and the resort was in good condition. I thought we received very good service at all times.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Good Bang for your Buck

This hotel is good value for your money. The food was really good and far better than I had expected. The pools were nice and lots of options for different locations and atmosphere. The beach was nice. The water was a little bit rough but we still managed to swim. On Sunday's it's a lot of local people's day off work so we noticed the beach was filled with local people. We did not travel VIP and noticed a difference in service. It was very segregated and unfortunately the entire complex was set up like that. The resort is very big and it was a lot of stairs and walking. I wouldn't recommend this resort to someone with mobility issues. Definitely not accessible. The weather was great, we had one day of rain which was in the middle of our stay and a nice break from the sun. The kids club was amazing, they did some pretty cool activities with the kids, horse back riding, a trip to Ocean World and painting and crafts. Once we figure out we could access the Tropical Resort restaurants and pools we quickly began taking advantage of that. It was much closer to our room and less stairs. Our room was a descent size and I requested a third bed as I traveled with my daughters age 7 and 8 and we all slept better in our own beds. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, small rooms, small fridge which had 2 beer and a couple waters and pops in it. The fridge was only stalked once during our 7 days. All and all a nice resort. I would recommend it however, not sure I would go back again. There are so many places I want to travel, I liked this resort but I didn't love it!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great resort, but...

The rooms and the food were excellent. Because of heavy rains the previous week the beach was inaccessible. I arrived on Tuesday and couldn't get in the ocean until Saturday. Silt, muck and debris washing up on shore. No English speaking TV at all...problem with the cable company they said. I don't go on vacation to watch TV but do enjoy news channels early in the morning and maybe a movie late at night.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Totally Satisfied at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada

The resort has been well maintained, the rooms were fine, food was wonderful and plentiful. The bar staff, table waiters and entertainment team made our stay very enjoyable . We especially would like to recognize Hermie as our dinner waiter. He served 10 of us very well and keep the wine glass full at all times. Edgar at the pool bar was a ball of fun as well. We most likely will go back to Paradise beach " God Willing".

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Nice Vacation

We just returned home from Confressi Palm Beach Resort April 4th. We had a great time. The resort is very big and lots of stairs so not great for anyone with any physical difficulties. The room was clean but dated our bathroom ceiling was leaking upon arrival but fixed quickly are view the Frost Bar and pool so nice access for my grandson traveling with me. I do not believe I would travel with air transit again as the cabin crew service was the worst I ever experienced, the food choices on board were limited and not that it was the airlines fault the 2 hour delay coming home was not a pleasant experience. I had been to the resort before when it was Sun Village in 2006 and would probably go back again but would upgrade to a junior suite. I am not a beach person but other people seemed to enjoy it. Lots of pools to choose from.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: It's OK

This was our return trip. We had visited it 3 years ago. Rooms are ok, beds comfortable. Rooms were not cleaned very well, sheets not changed. No facecloths. Food was plentiful. Entertainment was awful. Pools were great. Waves were big and limited how much we could go in the ocean but enjoyed it.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Pros and cons shortly!

I understand that for different people, different things matter, therefore I have to mention that these are things that were important to me: Pros Grounds, service in general, room cleanliness, no lines in bars, available table at the buffet all the time, good food and variety, beach at “reef section” pretty good. VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Could have been better

This resort was clean and the food was good however the service in the buffet was terrible. Sometimes you would get a drink with your meal and other times you would not. There were many occasions where you ordered a drink but it never came. The weather was excellent and we all had a good time other than with the service. Also they had to fumigate for cockroaches while we were there. My other complaint is the vendors on the beach so we mainly stayed at the pool area. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Amazing resort -lots of walking

Me and my boyfriend just got back and we had an amazing time at this resort. The grounds are alittle old but very well maintained. The rooms and very big and nicely kept. Be ready for lots of walking unless you are a VIP (u get a golf cart) if not be prepared for lots of stairs and walking uphill. I have no complaints about the resort the food was good not as much options as I would like. The shuttle is about 30 minutes from the airport but not that bad. Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Average

Pros: The staff are very friendly and hard working. Beautiful weather. Cons: Resort is isolated. Entertainment not very good. Most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. We been to a couple of other Rui hotels that were much, much better. Would rate as 3.5 star.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great trip at an ok resort

Incredible food, awful beach, great entertainment staff and ok grounds best sums up this resort. While the grounds are nice and clean, there's really nothing grand about the resort. Theres also not much for entertainment during the day other than your standard water aerobics, dance lessons and a quick game. Huge shoutout to Noel and Rinalli who worked around the clock during our entire stay, The worst part is how secluded the resort is. The night time set up is great with the disco and Kareoke bar combo but again, you get tired of doing the same thing each night. Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: The resort beautiful, the rooms not so much

For the most part, the hotel was great. The room wasn't. Our toilet kept getting plugged and our shower didn't drain. We had 3 women to one room...important to for the tub to drain. The beach was filled with sticks and seaweed and the water had about 10 feet of that also before you hit clear merky water. If you want a nice beach this isn't the place to go. Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Basic 2.5 star resort

I find this review hard to write as there were many good things to go with some of the bad. Overall, we had a great week here (Feb. 17-24 for $766 from Halifax) and would go back again if we weren’t put in building 15. To put things in perspective, I usually travel to Cuba and stay at 3 or 3.5 star hotels. Here are my thoughts about Playa Dorada Beach House: Food – Better than expected. While the selection may have been smaller, the quality more than made up for it. Pancakes, eggs and o [... read more]melettes made to order at the grill or you could choose from the buffet. Beach grill was excellent for lunch and the buffet for supper always had something good – pork, chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, rice and a small salad bar. Jose in the buffet is an excellent server and so friendly and welcoming. Entertainment – The entertainment staff were excellent and tried to engage you in their activities (beach volleyball, nightly shows, etc) but were respectful if you chose not to participate. The nightly entertainment was good and not the same stuff that you see in Cuba all the time. Beach – Excellent, could always get a chair but not always under shade – but that was okay…I wanted sun. There were more beach vendors, approaching more often, than I was used to from being in Cuba. However, just a firm “no gracias” worked well. Staff – While some of the staff didn’t speak great English, it was understandable and they were very friendly whether you tipped or not. In particular, Mariano, who worked at the bar by the pool, was excellent. The drinks were great, not watered down. Room – Ahhh! Here lies the problem. When we arrived on Friday, the 17th at 7:30 pm ish we were put in building 15 – top floor. This room was terrible and no one should have ever been put in it. I was travelling with my two daughters and the room we were in only had one bed. Not to mention, the shower didn’t work - the lever that you pull up on the tap for the shower was seized solid. However, that did get fixed on Saturday afternoon. Another issue – the tub was filthy dirty, mold in it, etc. That did not get cleaned so we showered with flip flops on on Saturday. The final issue with the room – there were glass shards all through the carpet on the upstairs level, which did not get vacuumed up after repeated requests. We were moved on Sunday afternoon to Building 13 which was like Penthouse suite compared to where we were. I should also mention that we only had hot water once but I didn’t mind showering in cold to lukewarmish water. Many other people we talked to in that building also had similar problems. All in all, I don’t regret going there and I would consider going back again if I could be guaranteed not to be in building 15. This resort has a lot of potential.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Good time

This hotel is what it is, the buildings, stores and bars are definitely showing age, this resort is older however staff are constantly cleaning, painting and making an effort to keep the buildings presentable, the grounds are nice and kept clean. Thought the resort was very nice for the price. It showed its age a little but the staff did everything they could to make the most of it. I thought the buffets were well stocked with many varieties of food and I never went hungry. I also found the French a-la-cart to be fantastic, with the other two being OK. Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Wonderful Resort

The resort was lovely. Mature vegetation with beautiful orchids in numerous locations on the grounds. Pool was well maintained. Personnel was constantly cleaning & tiding up the resort. Many items of different foods to choose from. Love that the resort was not huge. The layout was well thought out. Had rain late in the afternoon a couple days but were able to walk to main building without getting wet. View of the mountains in the distance adds to its charm.
