Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Royalton Hideaway Cancun

This was my first visit to this resort. My wife had been there twice in the past pre-pandemic whilst still under the Hunter ownership. It was recently sold to the Marriott group. My wife had raved about the resort. We were quite disappointed this visit. Upon entering the main area, it was stunningly beautiful. As we waiting for our room we sat in the lobby area. The carpets in the seating area need to be shampooed or replaced. They have seen better days. The couches and chairs also need repla [... read more]cing. They are all showing wear and tear. When we checked-in, we were made to wait until nearly 4pm for our "ocean view" room. The view of the ocean was limited and partial as we were placed in the back corner of the resort overlooking the very noisy pool area. When we walked into the room, it seemed clean and tidy. When we began unpacking, the first thing we noted was a cockroach. I removed it and chalked it up to being in Mexico. Although the room is presentable and clean, we found the bed to be quite uncomfortable as it showed obvious depressions in the mattress where past guests have slept. The pillows were another disappointment. It was brought to the hotels attention and new pillows were brought to our room. The shower rain heads were rusted and the handle of the hand-held shower was corroded. The pillows on the chairs on the balcony were old, stained and worn. When touring the facility, we noted dirty floors, walls and elevators. Yes, the elevators are filthy. One of the two by our room was working on and off. The wall sign by the guest suites was broken. I would have removed it completely until the new one arrived. On the service side, it was stellar. The staff was amazing and always there to assist the best they could. On the food side, it was good but not great. The way they cook hamburgers by the pool breaks all the food handling protocols. The same utensil was used on raw and cooked meats. There was cross-contamination. Health inspection audit is required to better train staff on how to BBQ. The pool area is in need of new parging of the cement as there are quite a few cracks surrounding the area and especially the stairs. This could be construed as a liability to the resort if someone was to fall an injure themselves. Although I note a lot of positives, they sadly are outweighed by all of my negative views of what could very well be a stellar property for vacationers I work in a customer service position of a luxury brand. Perhaps my expectations of standards it much too high? Would I return? Things would have to change. In reading other reviews on this property, I dare say that I am not alone in my findings. Riu Palace Riviera Maya: Great resort!! Just what was needed after two years of Covid

This was our 2nd time to this resort, we typically do not go to the same resort twice but after two years of lockdown we wanted to go somewhere where we knew we would enjoy it. The Riu's never disappoint and we had a great time. The resort has gone through a complete redevelopment since our last trip here 5 years ago and it looks fantastic. the restaurants are amazing and the buffet never disappoints and no reservations are needed so we were worried about waiting in lines for meals but that ne [... read more]ver happened. It is a smaller resort but there was never any issues getting loungers around the pool and the poolside servers are very quick and friendly so you never have to wait long for a drink:) We never went to the beach or the ocean so I cannot comment on that area, but we did notice that there is an incredible amount of seaweed in the water and on the beach, which is a problem everywhere in this area of Mexico. Over-all it is a great place to stay

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Ocean Coral and Turquesa good resort

Resort was very good. Pool side entertainment was great. Buffet was good. Italian dinner good, Japanese was very good and entering. Route 66 excellent burgers, great onions rings good fries. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean resort. Only downfall was the seaweed. It was horrible you could not go in the Ocean and we love the Ocean. We made do with the pools.. had a great time.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Beautiful

Rooms and lobbies were very clean and kept up. Swimming pools were clean but had a few items to attend such as cigarettes in the middle fountain area that looked to be there for a long time. Since the resort is very large a quick map of the resort in rooms or in a hand out would have been super helpful.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Very disappointing

I'm not very picky but the smell of sewage, continually rotating restaurants, and the constant attempts to sell people a membership has really turned me off this place. It is not cheap and lacks in every single aspect of a resort vacation. The superbly ugly bags they installed at the beach to curb the inflow of seaweed fails to do the job and looks so bad you won't want to be at the beach at all :(

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great service, Awesome food!

The resort itself is great....grounds and pool are beautiful, the buffet dining room is very nice with a great selection of food, everything is clean and we felt safe. All of the ala carts that we tried were all delicious with great service. What we didn't like is that the rooms are dated and the air conditioning in our room wasn't keeping up, very warm. We had paid for a deluxe room in the adult only section and requested a king size bed (that's what we have at home) There were no king si [... read more]ze beds available, we were given a room with two doubles. A room with a kingsize bed came available two days in, so we moved rooms. The beach is rocky, bring water shoes.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Absolute Paradise!!

An AMAZING resort!! Grounds: It is so airy and fresh and clean. The grounds are immaculately kept. The main lobby is beautiful and the air conditioning is perfect. There was no garbage anywhere. And the restrooms were always clean. Staff: The staff are so friendly- always smiling. William, Lily, Leo, Santi, many bartenders, Pablo, Daniella. So many people who were just amazing in their service. We were catered to completely. Restaurants: The food is great. Drinks are tasty and plenti [... read more]ful. We ate at La Loncanda, Steakhouse, Sakura, Privilege Lounge, and the buffet Amaranto, and the ice cream parlour. So happy with the variety and our butler made our reservations so we didn’t have to wait (Privilege Service). Beach: The sargassum (seaweed) sucks. But they tried their best with having people cleaning up as best they could. That’s a nature thing. But we did go in the water still. The ocean water is still awesome. Pools & Entertainment: We loved the Privilege pool since it wasn’t rowdy. Very relaxing. The pool itself is nice. There was always something going on at the other pools. It seemed that everyone was having fun. If you wanted to relax, you could. If you wanted activity, you got it. Overall: I highly, HIGHLY recommend this resort. It was so clean and the service was exceptional. I appreciate how the staff still wore masks and there was still a sense of vigilance in keeping the place clean. But we didn’t feel like we were restricted in any way. I can’t wait to go back.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Royalton Royalty!

The Royalton resorts are top notch in most if not all ways. Food is excellent, rooms are comfortable, staff are great. Notables; Natalia, Masserrat and ‘Princess’ Yeseel of the vibe crew. Also Alberto in the small pool Tiki bar by the beach. Unfortunately we had to ask each day for our in room mini bar to be stocked with water. We were told the maids do not do this, it’s another crew. No problem but after 3 days asking in a row we felt like this should have been addressed daily. We asked f [... read more]or a restaurant booking at 10am and at 7pm were told everything was full. The only other thing we asked our butler for was the time of our departing bus and we were told to go to the sunwing office at the opposite side of resort… felt like the butler could have simply called for us or given us a number. Couldn’t get chairs after 730am and the Diamond club cabanas were also taken each day. We were told there were many diamond club visitors and not enough cabanas. The Diamond club lounge was filled with non diamond members and even some from the family side of resort, no monitoring of this. No private diamond club pool that we could find, staff also looked dumb founded by the question. Great resorts and would go back but the diamond club is not worth anything.

Very disappointed with this property Elevators didn't work They tried to put us on 4th floor in a room in dire need of updating which I changed Requested a king bed. Not available No A/C in Buffet all week Service was mediocre at best Never go back

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Big Disappointment

Our second visit to this resort proved very disappointing. Still a beautiful setting and stunning to look at, the resort has deteriorated physically lacking even minimum expectations of hot water and functioning mini-fridges. Our room, particularly the bathroom was very tired. The food at The Grill, where we ate dinner several times, was uninspired with very small portions. The lunch buffet and poolside fare provided few choices. The Room Service food was inedible. Service was inconsistent  [... read more]and the overall impression was of a food service staff that is severely overworked. The resort is very clean and maid service was efficient and friendly. All staff were masked at all times and there were hand sanitizing stations throughout. This resort is definitely not what it used to be and we will not return.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Beautiful

This was our first time in 12 visits to the Mayan Riviera staying at a Barcelo. It was excellent. The location of the pools, beach and rooms is perfect. You can get around easily to the sister hotels if you are looking for a change of scenery. Great gym, great food and everyone worked so hard to make your holiday great. Top hotel for us and we will be back!

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Great Resort

The resort was very clean, the staff were great, we had a swimout room and I would highly recommend spending the extra money on one, but if you do not like party and noise make sure you ask to not be by the party pool. Unfortunately we had no beach due to the extreme amount of seaweed washed up, but not the resorts fault.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: This resort is NOT a 5 star, very dated, not very clean!

I would not recommend this resort to anyone. There was no concierge, my phone did not work all week, asked 4 times to have it repaired. Had to asked for products. Patio door did not lock. Rooms not very clean…. Very dated. Grounds need A lot of TLC and to be cleaned. Pool was never cleaned, a lot of build up on the sides, needs a major clean. Beach was not cleaned, a lot of garbage. Chairs on the beach old, torn, dirty. Rooms, lobby, chair's, restaurants need a deep cleaning an [... read more]d a lot of TLC. Beach shower dirty, falling a part. Service in restaurants was good, the food was good, very limited seafood. I would consider this resort a 3 star only! Victoria, I was not happy at all with your recommendation and the price we paid for the week for this resort!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Nice resort

Rooms were very nice, best bed yet! Third floor room very quiet. Food was good at the various reserved restaurants. Not a fan of the buffet, a lot of guests chose to not wait in lines. Hit and miss regarding using gloves and masks at the buffet. Children and young people sticking their hands into food i.e. nacho chips. Lots of wildlife including Monkeys which are very entertaining. Pools are good, however lounge chairs difficult to get unless you reserve a chair before 7 in the morning. Beach area nice, sometimes affected by seaweed, staff constantly working to keep seaweed down. Fairly large resort, lots of walking. Entertainment centre best set-up I’ve seen, entertainment itself average. Various other entertainment in bars, good. Good bar service around the pools, staff constantly on the go.

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Better than expected

This is our second trip to El Dorado resorts by Karissa. Previous was with Royale. So our expectations were high. They were exceeded. We experienced some challenges which were from what challenges all resorts namely staffing. Our room was in some disrepair and lacked amenities like bathrobe etc. But these issues were expediently dealt with. Food was beyond superb though because of their capacity metering availability of reservations was hard. Got better as we were there. We got to go to all opti [... read more]ons. Spa was exquisite. Beach had a weed problem but they were cleaning daily for 10 hours a day and hauling seaweed away. By day 5 or 6 the seaweed was cleared and the water pristine . Best snorkeling. Many activities to choose from . We will go back

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Amazing resort!

Grand Sirenis is absolutely beautiful! The grounds and wildlife really make the trip that much better. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, they go out of their way to make your day. There is a very large variety of food at every buffet that everyone will find something they like. The shows are beautiful and the performances are top notch. The pools are kept very clean and the swim up bars are easy to order from. The lines are never too long at any of the bars as the staff are very effic [... read more]ient. Lastly, I'd definitely recommend trying the Spa, we had a couples massage and enjoyed some relaxing time in their saunas and hot tubs.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Beautiful resort!

This resort is starting to get dated, but still offered all the amenities and good service to make our stay a memorable one. The worst part would have to be the beach as it was overtaken by seaweed. I thought that all resorts in the Mayan Riviera had the same issue but saw photos of family and friends that stayed at different resorts which were able to clean the beach to make it swimmable. Luckily my kids were more focused on the swimming pools…

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Somewhat disappointed

Except for the past two years, we travel south yearly to all inclusive resorts and I always do my research before booking a resort. Most of the reviews about ABBWR are correct. The service is top notch, the grounds are beautiful, snorkeling is great right off the beach, there are no reservations required for the à la carte restaurants which are good and you never have to wait long to get a cold drink. Some of the things that were disappointing are the dated rooms which are large and kept clean  [... read more]but with faulty a/c, tv and thin walls; cold food at the buffet - unless you stand in line at the egg, meat or pasta stations, pretty much everything else will be cold. This can easily be fixed by having a better system to keep the food warm. The structures on the beach for shade don’t provide much and the pool beds are old with stained and dirty coverings. All in all finding shade at the beach or pool is difficult. The beach chairs are used, dirty and some are broken. Investing in new beach chairs and mattress covers would solve the problem. The larger pool isn’t that large and was not always kept clean. It is true that the staff are this resort’s greatest asset and probably why people return. Would we return…..probably not. The reasons: screaming and crying kids with parents who don’t seem to care or notice their poor behaviour, one puked in the pool, two had a big fight in the middle of the pool, the family next door to us had 2 kids who were fighting, screaming and throwing tantrums all the time. I think the father had enough one night, he left and arrived at 2:30 am, slamming the door and waking us up. We book a trip each year to get away for some rest and relaxation. This was not the most restful or relaxing vacation we’ve ever had which is why we would not return and have decided to only book adults only resorts from now on.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Amazing experience

The area was spick and span. It was maintained quite well as the staff were super nice. Masks are still enforced in some spaces. The villas were also really spacious and were cleaned on a regular basis.
