Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Overall Good Resort

Overall, my husband and I loved the resort. Its very big, so lots to do since you have access to all 5 resorts. Kept very clean and nice. A great family resort for kids. Beach is very big, lots of sand space and chairs so no issue not finding a chair. Its currently hurricane season so lots of seaweed coming in. Pools are very nice and clean. When we checked in, they gave us absolutely no details of the resort or information. Didn't give us our towel cards or direct us to our room. Then our fob didnt work so we couldnt get into the room, it was a dissappointing start. Service at buffets was quite slow. Most of the works also speak Spanish only, or English is very limited so there is definitely a language barrier. Location was nice, about 1.5 hours from the airport Overall everything was very nice, we loved it. Our only complaint would be lack of service and friendliness from the workers.

Barcelo Aruba: Too Loud and very commercialized.

Staff are amazing! The room was ok. Getting in and out of the tub/shower was a nightmare. I kind of fell the first time I went in. I heard this complaint from several other guests. Apparently, there are walk in showers available but I was unaware of them until a later date. I expected better because of the Royal upgrade we purchased. We stayed at Barcelo Bavaro in Punta Cana, at the Premium level 2X and the views, hotel and room at Bavaro were much better. All premium level rooms, have ocean fro [... read more]nt views and a hot tub on your balcony. In Aruba, I had to ask for a room overlooking the pool and ocean. I was lucky enough to get that as some Royal level guests are overlooking the parking lot with a partial ocean view. Food was ok. Be aware, if you want a pool or beach chair, you have to get up between 5:30am and 6:30am to claim one with your beach towels. Outside of our hotel was a strip full of shops, restaurants and bars. Sun to Thu the music is blaring until 1am. Fri & Sat until 3am. Because of the way the hotel is situated, the music is caught right in the middle of the buildings. I did speak to the concierge when checking out and she informed us that they are in court and trying to stop the music from blaring so late. It was extremely loud. Aruba is beautiful, but very expensive and commercialized. I'm glad I experienced Aruba but if I were to go back, I would probably stay at the other end of the island where it's quieter. Although, I think I will try somewhere else next time.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: It is really beautiful resort

This resort is located in wonderful tropical forest with numerous paths and pools crossed bridges. You can see spider monkeys, coatis,agautis,deers, iguanas and o lot of different birds.In addition,there was 15 minute walk away from hotel to the parc Xaret, where we could go all the time. Food was delicious. All personal was very friendly and polite. Rooms very clean. However, there are not enough umbrellas near pools to provide shade from the direct rays of the sun. In the room in the bathroo [... read more]m there was no fan and was damp,in addition one wooden door with holes didn’t isolate the bathroom from the main room. If one from us went to the tolet, the other had to go to the balcony. There was no fan and, as result of which it was damp and not good smell. Especially, when you enter the room and the bathroom.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Great Family Resort

Our Family had a great time at the Barcelo Palace and booking through Tammy Beamish @ Tripcentral was easy and worry free. (Was my first time using Tripcentral and was very pleased). Everything at the resort was great. Only comments we have are that the resort is huge and if you have issues walking that could be an issue, lots of towels but no face cloths in room, and a paper map with all 6 resorts would be beneficial, and the beach is rocky in places (water shoes come in handy) We only saw 1  [... read more]show and it was average at best but we enjoyed snorkeling with fish and turtles right in front of the resort and at the pier for hours. Bring your own snorkeling gear.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Mostly Good - Except the Food

Pros: + The hotel is beautiful, clean, and very well kept. + The pools are great and the beach is lovely. + Facilities are top notch. + The staff is friendly and welcoming, for the most part. Cons: - The food was sub par. Not just the buffet, also the restaurants. We were hoping for some nice dishes and fresh ingredients, but it felt like the dining experience was aimed at the lowest North American standard. Also, not everything was refilled. Barcelo Maya Tropical: Bad experience

One bad experience can completely ruin a country for some of us… we absolutely hated our experience at the barcelo maya tropical! From the staff to the food and even the bar! Brutal! Upon arrival we didn’t feel a welcoming vibe from any of the staff members. Rude staff at the outdoor buffet! The food was brutal! When you think of Mexico, you think of tacos… and zero tacos! No taco carts anywhere! Nothing! They started turning lights off once the restaurants closed 10pm… no option for food af [... read more]ter that! The bar closed at midnight! If you want to drink after midnight, you’ll have to go to the shared mall (shared between the 4 resorts) but you have to pay for everything at the mall! The beach is very rocky… a lot of people put their towels on chairs at the beach and at the pool but then they leave the resort and screw people out of seats! I would never go back to Mexico again after this experience

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Very nice resort.

The resort is very nice, with a good selection of food and well-maintained grounds. However, the rooms and bathrooms could use some updates, as they have been in use for the last 25 years and are showing signs of wear. The pools are the nicest I have ever seen—very clean and spacious enough for the kids to enjoy safely. One downside was being transported to the resort in an old van from the airport, and the driver asked for a tip. Barcelo Maya Tropical: Beautiful resort, wonderful holiday!

This is our 2nd time staying at the Barcelo Tropical and it did not disappoint. The grounds are beautifully maintained; the staff were friendly and helpful, the beach and pool were fantastic. We would definitely return again!

Barcelo Solymar: Very poor, no sanitary measures

This hotel is very large. There were very few canadian tourists when I was there. Lots of Russians and cubans. Several people including myself got food poisoning from the buffet food. When I pointed this out to the assistant manager Christian he blamed me saying I drank too much. And seem to care little. At one point he mention that he had a mild case of diarrhea and it must be something in the air. Idiot.

Occidental Costa Cancun: Clean and friendly

This hotel has lovely openness to it. It took far too long to check in with only 3 people working the front desk. They did immediately pull us aside to sell us on time share at their sister site, and while pleasant they are persistent. The property was very clean and well maintained. The food was fresh daily and seating readily available, we never waited more than 2 mins for a seat. The room we were given was impressively large with a great size balcony. I found that the bed was more firm that I would have liked and the same can be said for the pillows. The resort is very organized when it was time to leave they were expecting and looking for us. The people are so great! for the package I purchased this trip was exactly what I was looking for.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Excellent Trip

This was our second trip to Barcelo Maya. We stayed at Tropical this time and again we were very happy with our stay. The room was clean and no issues; little humid but not much can be done with that. Food was good and lots of variety to choose from if your picky. The beach is beautiful and pools were warm. We will return.

Great hotel complex. Very clean and beautiful throughout. Standard room was great with cold AC. Buffett food was good to very good at the main Buffet. Ok to good at poolside Buffets. Beach was great with very Little Rock’s to worry about. Sargassum was light to none existent. Staff are courteous and timely.

Occidental Caribe: Icky showers

Rooms were only fine at best. Shower was very subpar. Leaked water everywhere and staff never left enough towels. Employees would enter room without knocking first and couldn’t or wouldn’t speak any English.

ONeil did a great job helping us book our trip. We upgraded to premium level which is where the resort fell short. The rooms were ok at best. The shower wasn’t pleasant or what I would call premium level. Very dated and in much need of proper repairs.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great and amazing vacation

Hotel was a little old but everything was clean and very well designed. One of the greatest thing we appreciate was to swim with the turtles. So you don’t have to pay anything because it is right there at the beach. Catamaran is also free. Restaurants and food was also excellent. Drink, I don’t drink that much so I can’t comment. Pools are huge and clean, lots of chairs but people still reserve them…

Occidental Punta Cana: 100% statisfaction

Everything from room,to beach,to service,to food,and all other aspects totally meet our expectations. We would not hesitate to make a return visit. A special shout-out to Lucia(Room Attendant),Yvelise (Buffet Manager and all her staff),Nelson(Bell Hop) and Rissette(Reservation Desk).

Barcelo Tambor: Not A 4 Star

The hotel was a disappointment, although not the country nor the people. They have serious issues with communication--they prevented us from leaving the hotel in our rental car even though we showed them the papers and did not adequately explain afterwards. The food is NOT 4 star level, but basic Central American cafeteria, i.e. rice and beans. On the good side, the grounds are immaculate and the staff are friendly, but they don't speak English. All clients need to know these issues before they think they are booking a 4 star. 2.5 star or at best.

Occidental Punta Cana: Occidental

Came here for my friend’s wedding and have a lot more cons than pros about this resort. I would never return. Had a much better experience at another resort. - Most of the staff barely speak English.. huge language barrier. - no 24/7 café - Food was not palatable, always the same food every day at the buffet. - room service would knock at our door at 6:30am every morning and wouldn’t come back later to clean our room or replenish our fridge. - Barely any shade on beach or in front of the  [... read more]pools. - Some staff were rude, especially if you didn’t speak their language. - People on the beach were really pushy to try to sell their items. - Rooms weren’t properly cleaned when they did show up.. cups were still dirty, sink weren’t cleaned. Not impressed with this resort.

Occidental Tamarindo: NOT WORTH THE MONEY

I don't normally rate trips because truthfully you can't make everyone happy. However when you can't get a coffee cup, or the pop fountains and cappuccino machines don't work. Nor have to ask for a glass of water to have it smacked on the table because you are an inconvenience oh and lets not forget getting napkins. There was truthfully ONE great server there who was happy to help. Bar staff unfriendly and short staffed often....which I get why they may not be happy. That though is not my fault. [... read more] Now according to the girls that booked this part of the promotion for booking early was Bathrobes, champagne in your room upon arrival, premium alcohol. Of which none of that was given. When questioned about it the response was I don't see that. Would I go back to Costa Rica yes would I go to that resort no and would I use trip central again. JURY is out on that. Even our Rep indicated this hotel has more complaints then any other hotel.
