Muthu Colonial Hotel: Total Dismay and Felt Abandoned

The Hotel was beautiful as Alway's however I was ignored , mistreated, abandoned, left out, offered no help, and due to me being legally blind severely disabled ALONE and being a WOMAN. I felt discrimination towards me daily, nightly and the " ONLY HELP EVER OFFERED " or would " HELP MYSELF " would be fellow Tourists such as British Decent, Russian and majorities of CANADIAN HELPERS. I went 4 day's with NO FOOD. The Front desk ALWAY'S would say " Okay my friend. Someone come see you now " Well " [... read more] SOMEONE " NEVER CAME " EVER!!! The Manager " TITO " seen me eventually after I split my head open on the bathroom cement floor and blood witnessed by Staff, Tourists and another Employee " Breanna " as I stitched my head up MYSELF with a sewing kit. I would NEVER RECOMMEND a WOMAN travelling ALONE especially if SEVERELY DISABLED AND BLIND or even if someone ALONE is hoping for RESPECT, GUIDANCE and CURTICY. DO NOT " GO ANYWHERE IN CUBA " I NEVER FELT so " HUMILIATED, EMBARRASSED, HATE, HUNGER AND COMPLETELY ABANDONED in my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE ". SUNWAY'S AIRFLIGHT SERVICES were also a NIGHTMARE as documentations of both of my flights I MISSED and I had to take LATER FLIGHTS, due to " THEIR ERROR'S " as once AGAIN there was ABSOLUTELY " NO HELP WHATSOEVER " in order for me, Ann Frances MacDonald to get my baggage checked in, obtain my plane ticket, as I sat in my wheelchair in line and listened to EVERY SINGLE PERSON pass me by and board the Airplane as I, Ann Frances MacDonald kept asking " EXCUSE ME, IS THERE ANYWAY SOMEONE COULD HELP ME WHEN YOU ARE ABLE? I AM ALONE AND WOULD GRATEFULLY ACCEPT ANY AND ALL HELP POSSIBLE ". The result of my many countless cry's for HELP were " ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ". The questions that I ask my family and friends now that I am back in Canada and I feel like I never got away in the 1st place is...." WHY "? Why was I treated so poorly? " WHY "?????????? Quite frankly I NEVER would have believed all of this myself. Especially after this being my 11th time travelling to what I use to think of as my 2nd HOME " CUBA ". Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great Resort with a few minor issues.

Over all this is a great resort ( commenting on the Plus side, since that is where we stayed). Clean, very good service, friendly atmosphere. Food over all was good, and plentiful. Italian restaurant for fresh made thin crust pizza at lunch was our favorite. Buffets were good but like any buffet repetitive. could use so more theme nights to switch things up a bit. Snack bars were a nice treat in between meals and late night. A la carte were good too ( did lobster, Cuban and Italian) Dr [... read more]inks were good, Plus lounge with Eduardo and Adam (bartenders) were a regular stop every night for our group. Beach for us was great as we love to snorkel and great reef right off the beach with great variety of fish and sea life. yes there are a lot of rocky areas but if you walk a bit down the beach plenty of sand only entrances. Our plus side pool was amazing, never an issue for our group of 8 ( even during the holiday season Dec 26- Jan2) to get great pool chairs together for all 8. ( never once did we need to go out early and play the chair towel game) , always arrived pool side after 10 am and never a problem. Rooms were clean and AC worked well. Cleaning staff was amazing. Had issue with our toilet not flushing on arrival but they quickly fixed the issue. Water was hot for showers with very good water pressure thru out our stay. Service thru out the resort was excellent , very attentive and friendly. As for the minor issues, WiFi was slow and spotty , only available in the front lobby area at a reasonable price ( not really a big issue, you are on vacation ) Biggest issue was the condition of the public bathrooms thru out the resort. With many with non functioning toilets, no blowers/ hand towels or paper towels in any of the several we used. Plus sometimes even no toilet paper. I understand this happening outside the resort but should never be the case inside the resort grounds (especially when everything else was kept up so well.) We had a delay with our Cubana airlines on the way home , but that has nothing to do with the resort. But even with these small issues, would still recommend this place. Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great time!

We loved the beach as it had lots of options for sun or shade. The food at the buffet and Cuban a la carte restaurant greatly exceeded our expectations. The staff was usually friendly and helpful. Rooms were incredible!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Love Blau

People are great! Food was good too! Buyer beware though - the rum bar is far more expensive than the shop in the lobby - difference was 14 CUC which is about $20 CDN. When we raised it there was nothing they could do. Lessons learned! Also learned that December is the hatch of sand flies/fleas which made the beach stay not so pleasant. Hadn't experienced that in January.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Swimming heaven

Very laid back homey hotel. Service oriented and friendly. Many many guests happily return. Food was exceptional this time. Both buffets and a La carte restaurants were very good with great variety. I will forgive them for covering the fish fillets with gravy! The beach is stunning. A swimmer's dream come true. Crystal clear warm water and safe too. Internet is not their strong suit. I believe it is that way all over Cuba. Overall it is a very enjoyable place with good nightly entertainment, comfortable rooms and attentive service. There are friendly unpretentious guests from all over the world. I will return yet again and look forward to it. And do bring toilet paper. It is like gold.

The beach was amazing with a great service, enough shade. A room service was good, no complaints, people are nice and friendly. The shows were sometimes very professional and sometimes not, but in general we had a great experience and definitely will go there again

The resort was good, a bit old and not very well mantained. But the beach and the ocean was perfect and for me was the most important! The food was ok, not too much of the variety but fresh and no one got sick.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Nice resort

Rooms : The rooms were updated in the building we stayed at we stayed in block valve in the heart of the resort the rooms Got hairdryer , Iran available when requested , shampoo conditioner and gel in dispenser mounted in the bathroom shower area... our maid is very clean she always made sure to mop change the sheets almost daily ... Property : The property is a beautiful property located at the end of the Pennsylvania the ocean is so clean and beautiful the properties well-maintained yet the way it was built spread on along property that makes it really hard to commute from a place to another ! I mean for my family it was really hard ... I have a baby so every time I needed to fill a bottle with milk I had to go to the reception by no other smaller booth is her areas on the way .... it's quite the walk from our block to anywhere snack bar fish restaurant or the farther areas for block 20 and 20 something ! I wish they built it in a pyramid shape to make more use of the land... oh there was spa very nice one and hairdresser Internet services , cigar bar cigar shop all for extra money not included but Available. Food : typical Cuban food edible some great variety of seafood which I go for everytime. I hated the fact that there is gaps between breakfast lunch and dinner if you miss lunch there's a huge gap between breakfast and dinner ... and made it really hard specially that we are not really hungry before 2:30 by the time we get to the lunch buffet almost every kind is gone... Ala cart reservations restaurant were excellent quality and taste and presentation to die for especially the Spanish and Itallian restaurant... Drinks : it's almost impossible to find gas water and all the other drinks are super sugary ! I don't go for the drinks but I can live on water alone for years hehehe Pools: quiet pool which we didn't visit much near snack bar! Activity pool across from our rooms with slide that my kids loved and smaller area for babies with a park 😊 And a bouncy hug castle that my 1.5 years old went crazy for ... over all pools were really clean and fun. Towels: no clean towels every other day maybe Beach : amazing amazing clean there was volleyball every day that aqua fitness dancing many activities kayaking paddle boat Internet: 2 cuc for every hour and it's terrible half the time doesn't work or super slow... Night entertainment: Night chose were amazing specially the magic night there was entertainment for children but very minimal only last 2 days. Kids club not well taken care of and missing many activities only one staff member needs updating needs more staff ...

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Delightful Resort with Character

The hotel is one of the oldest on Cayo Coco and therefore has a few items that need repair. There was a group of carpenters constantly fixing and upgrading the buildings. The rooms are clean and roomy. As always in Cuba, the water supply wasn't consistent but we were able to shower every day. The staff were wonderful and accommodating and we did some of the best excursions in our many travels.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Fantastic resort

We had a few people recommend this resort and now I can too! The place is very clean, the staff are very friendly. My wife and I had booked this trip for our first vacation away without the kids. We are going to return and bring the kids next time. The resort has everything you need for either a busy, exciting vacation or a relaxing one. It is a little spread out but it makes for a good way to get some extra walking in after eating the very good food! (Gourmet being the best in my opinion) They were repainting the buildings while we were there and building a new jacuzzi too. Something to look forward to when we return! Do make sure you pay for the "plus". The VIP bar is worth it alone.

Blau Varadero: A delightful experience

Well on the first night, the receptionist gave us the first floor room which smelled of smoke. The luggage man turned up the A/C full blast to get rid of the smell. As a result I had to wear a full gear of scarf and jacket during my slumber that night. We stayed one more night and on Friday Armando from Sunwing met me and I explained about the situation and after he spoke with the receptionist, we got moved to the sixth floor which was in much better shape and no smoke odor and that was where [... read more] we stayed for the reminder of the vacation. Most staff were friendly and attentive. The only thing is that the receptionist was not allowed to give us small changes like smaller denominations in either US, CAN or CUC. This has caused inconvience for tipping purposes. The weather was perfect, the waves were inspiring, and I enjoyed the papayas and the pickled fish at every meal with lots of sweets. I also liked their palle rice. I was grateful for the foods and drinks compare to what the locals have. The doubl decker bus was a great value for the money. We enjoyed sitting under the hut by the beach and sleep,dream, or treading the waves, or just reading.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Awesome vacation.

Great food. A la Carte meals amazing. Wonderful service and friendly staff. Wide variety at Buffett. Beach is awesome and my husband went deep sea fishing and caught 140 lb Blue Marlin, so he is still pretty excited. This was our second time at this resort D we enjoyed it even more this time. Room was clean and tidy. Hope to,go again soon

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Best Holiday ever

This was a great holiday took my daughter and sister there and they were amazed at how great the food was. The staff was great too . It was my sister's bday and the staff went all out to make it special. We met wonderful people and plan to return again and again this was my fourth time and it just gets better and better. I always bring different people and everyone loves it there and wants to return

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Incredible vacation

The hotel was wonderful. Plenty of room to sit down and enjoy a drink or two. The grounds were well maintained and the rooms were clean and fresh. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The pools are well maintained. I ate food from the buffet and from the a la carte restaurants. I enjoyed both. If you like ketchup, I suggest you bring some! My one qualm was that some of the washrooms ran out of soap and toilet paper quicker than other washrooms found around the resort, I made sure to  [... read more]bring a roll of toilet paper from my hotel room for those just in case moments and I used hand sanitizer in the event of no soap.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Amazing experience! Can't wait to go again!

First time traveling to Holguin and was amazed the entire time there, great experience loved the location of our resort Blau costa verde, very clean, spacious, always had food available 24 hours a day. Service was amazing very friendly staff always ready to help you out. Buffet was clean and covered food was good, always something to eat, 24 hour snack bar amazing and a la carte restaurents phenomenal. Everything was max a 5-10min walk from our room. The plus pool was beautiful and much more spacious than the main pool. Also much quieter since all animations are held at the main pool or by the beach. The beach is spectacular great snorkeling area didn't even have to go on a snorkeling excursion the reef was right off our beach. Beautiful white sand, clear blue water. The only downfall to this beach would be the rocks some areas where quite rocky which is great when snorkeling but not so much for casual swimming. Luckily lots of areas with sand and since the water is clear you can navigate yourself thru the rocky paths in the water. Lots of chairs and palm huts available for everyone. The room was clean and mini fridge refilled every day with a new 1.5L fresh water and beer and cola. We where always greater with smiles and holas. Our trip was an experience I'll never forget. And for sure will be returning to this resort and recommending this resort to friends.

The Hotel Colonial never disappoints, the grounds are beautiful the staff are friendly and the hotel itself is like a little Spanish village! We love it there! They have two pools one of them is salt water.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Nice, Quiet Resort

Stayed at the Plus section in late October. Very quiet - probably half the buildings were closed. For us (parents), it was great - no lineups, no problems finding space/shade at the beach/pool, relaxing etc. However, the two 18-year olds in our party found the animation team poor, and the disco was dead each night. The food was great at the a la cartes - best is the Italian - and fine at the buffet, if a bit lacking in variety. always great service plus section is in need of tlc rooms not vip had many problems with door for room 36104 called many times came to fix but still not working properly tried fixing 6 times major for person of disability. everything else ok. if price is right this resort is perfect for anybody j.p

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Blau Costa Verde "Gotta Go with the Plus"

Situated in a beautiful and peaceful area, this is a beach resort which really feels part of its natural surroundings. Trees and tropical plants spill over onto the picturesque beach, sheltered by rocks, and from here you can enjoy views of a fishing village across the bay, and the mountains further inland. The waters here are great for snorkelling too. A perfect get away from it all destination. AC worked great and was welcomed relief after beach time. There was a large expanse of garden between the building and the beach margin, so not really a beach feel, but so quiet and waking up to sounds of surf and birds was the best. The grounds were exceptionally maintained and interiors immaculate. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed the 3 a la carte restaurants. Wait staff very professional and courteous. Cappuccinos and espressos were excellent, especially at the Lobby bar. Pools and beach great...service and staff efficient and friendly. The animation in the evening was very entertaining and professional, certainly not the normal level expected. Singers, dancers, musicians, magician were fantastic and we were fortunate to have incredible weather in the evenings. Having stayed in many 4 Star resorts in various parts Cuba I think The Blau Costa Verde was one the best and I cannot think of one negative experience as a guest in this beautiful resort. Much appreciation to the reception staff for fast and friendly check in and check out services and any assistance when needed. Definitely will be a place to return to.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Perfect!!!

I have stayed at this resort a few times as well as others in Cuba. This one is my preferred go to place. Beautiful rooms, great staff and always very clean. The extras (beer in room, Rum for return guests, sailing) are always appreciated too!
