Great resort

This resort is 12 years old and has been renovated recently. Clean grounds with staff attending to them regularly all the time Food selection was ok but would recommend the ala carte resturants Rooms were a bit small compared to other Bahia principe resorts Located in remote part of DR

Great people.

The weather, food and the staff were great. Had a couple problems with our room. Reserved a ground floor, renovated room (because I have a disability) and they gave us a 2nd floor room. Changed to a lower level. Room was dirty and small. (b9 section) the outlets were unsafe. Could not charge my electronics. Changed rooms again the next day because there were 3 of us in a room, looking for bigger and closer due to disability. Got moved to B2 section. It's exactly the same room. Two small beds and [... read more] floors were dirty. Our room had ants in it. Especially the bathroom. Got a few bites in the beds. It was a bit gross! Other than than the size of the rooms and cleanliness, had a great time. The staff could learn a bit more English. It was difficult to communicate with the bartenders. Also the security could have been a bit more strict with college kids. Very loud and obnoxious all hours of the night. All in all. I still had fun and the food was great.

Great value for the cost!

This resort was a great value for the cost. We paid approximately $875 each after redeeming $400 worth of airmiles. The grounds and rooms were immaculate, a little outdated but super clean. The staff were very kind and accommodating. The food at the buffet was average. They did ensure to change up the buffet menu with something a little different everyday. De [... read more]pending on your taste, I found the food at the Italian restaurant far too salty (and I like salt). The Asian restaurant was average. The sushi was good but the meal didn't sit well with myself or my husband the next day. If I went back, I would book all three meals at the Mediterranean restaurant. This is a very lively fun resort. Lots of great entertainment by the pool staff. The beach was not very nice but we knew that when we booked it. The sand and water is dark but this is expected on the Atlantic side. We had a lot of fun at the Karaoke bar and Discotheque. Overall, great value for the price. If we were looking to book another cheap trip, we would definitely return.

WONDERFUL RESORT - AWFUL S-TRIP

This was our second trip to the Grand Bahia Principe, San Juan, so we knew the resort. It is spread out, but beautiful, long beach, lots of pools, tons of loungers.........until the students arrived. It was absolutely disgusting. They were loud, drunk, knocking on doors at all hours, throwing up in the dining room, falling off their chairs in the dining room. Good resort. Great atmosphere.

We enjoyed our stay at the resort. Very friendly people and great food and entertainment. Rooms were dated but clean. Problems with water pressure and temperature. Also safe broke and had to be drilled to get our items out. Workers were great especially Marie in the lobby bathroom.

Very Good Resort

Upgraded our room, very spacious. Great air conditioning, clean, two bathrooms and closets. Maid was excellent. The grounds were beautiful and the food delicious both at the buffet and the A la Carte. Very long property, very private on beach. Sand is brown but so what. The bottom of the ocean was like velvet to the feet. The water was clearer when the waves were low.

Very nice resort

The resort was very clean and the food was great. The staff were friendly and efficient and ready to serve. I was with a group of 4 and we all had a awesome time. We had no complaints. We would go back anytime.

Excellent vacation!

We have booked our family (2 adults, one 12 yo) vacation during Reading Week, and we were a bit worried it will be very noisy. This resort is the perfect place for a family: not too many very young kids, not too many (and definitely not very rowdy) college / university students, not too many older adults; just the perfect mix. The rooms are clean and well kept, the entertainment crew is friendly and they put on very nice shows (we've enjoyed all the evening shows, but if you must miss one, make  [... read more]sure you do **not** miss the Circus Night - an amazing show); the pools are beautiful; the food is good (we haven't gone to any of the a la cart restaurants in one week, just enjoyed the buffet). The beach is not as crystal clear as you might expect (they do have wave breakers throughout the length of the resort beach), but we love a bit of waves and, on the upside, we were able to treasure hunt for shells :) The shopping / disco / karaoke / casino strip is a night touch and allows for a quiet evening, while offering the young(er) ones a place to dance and be loud :) We have booked a safari trip through the neighbouring mountains / villages / laguna; I would greatly recommend it if you want to have a taste of the local life. We have enjoyed it thoroughly! There are multiple organizations you can book through, we have used Transat's own, and we would recommend it (smaller group - about 14 people), wonderful guides, beautiful trip.

Beautiful but far from actionm

Bahia Principe San Juan is one of the most beautiful resorts I have seen in the Caribbean. All staff were very friendly with good service. The food was good. It's a great r&r resort. There are some on-resort activities but the resort is very far from everything so travel to excursions is long and far and not always comfortable.

Utopica

This resort did every thing well. The service was excellent, all meals were excellent, the staff set the bar high. the rooms were clean with no issues, the internet worked, the beach was amazing, the gym was excellent, the pool was clean. Lots of lounge chairs at the pool and on the beach. Lots of shade on the beach if needed.

Lovely Resort.

The hotel was very nice, the people were amazing always smiling trying to make our vacation great,they couldn't do enough for us. The only thing was it was so far away from anything.I would go back again and yes I would recommend it to my friends.

Good Value for the money

Nice gardens, similar to other Bahia Principe hotels I've stayed at. Nice long beach, due to the layout of the complex. Instead of the buildings running from the beach to deep inland, it is spread out widely along the shore with only 4 or 5 bungalows deep.The beach is longer than it is wide, with lounges spread from one end of the complex to the other. But the water is murky (probably due to the wave breakers they have in place). Food was great and the Mediterranean restaurant was amazing! Servi [... read more]ce can be a little slow if you are not sitting in the right area at the buffet. The only downer is the long ride to the airport. It is well over an hour to the Puerto Plata airport and about and hour and 45 minutes to the Samana airport.

Perfect winter getaway!

Grand Bahia Principe San Juan was the only resort for miles, which made for a nice quiet relaxing family vacation. Our family of five stayed in a "suite" which was basically two rooms with the wall cut out. We had 2 televisions, 2 full functioning washrooms (great with 3 children) and plenty of room for night time sleep arrangements. The resort was very secure and I had no fear of my children going around the resort on their own (girls aged 7 and 9). The beach was a little rough due to the high  [... read more]waves, but great for grabbing a good book and a lounge chair under a shaded palm tree. 3 pools offered activities at the main pool and 2 quieter pools for the quieter groups (infant was able to sleep on the lounge chairs for nap time). Staff were amazing friendly with the children and always willing to help with anything. Rooms and grounds were nice and clean. The a-la-carte restaurants were decent. Although the Asian food may have been a little off, 'causing a few of us to get stomach aches. Aside from that one restaurant, the food was superb. Great selection and prepared really nicely. Good variety of entertainment every night. And the range of day trips offered from the resort were awesome. Took a family day trip on the Lagoona Jeep Safari and was a great experience for our children (ages 2, 7, 9). I'd recommend this place for a fun family winter getaway. The weather is nice and predictably warm with high 20's, low 30's daily. When it did rain, it didn't rain for long and the sun was shining again. Flights were a bit of a different story. We had our return flight home changed several times and therefore had to leave resort earlier than anticipated. Communication to lobby for guests was not clear and had several of us awaiting 1.5 hours for ride to airport. Flight stopped over in Punta Cana which wasn't planned on original flight and made our flight longer by 2 hours. Not an easy task with three children and an infant that had problems with her ears.

Loved it!

The hotel was very nice. The pool was great! There was a little too much sea weed on the beach. The staff was very friendly and the animation team was awesome! Both the Italian and Mediterranean A La Cartes were great but the Asian was not good.

THE HOTEL WAS GREAT EXCEPT THERE COULD HAVE HAD A COFFEE MAKER IN ROOM, YOU HAD TO WAIT UNTIL 6:30 AM TO GET A COFFEE WHICH IS A BUMMER IF YOU ARE A EARLY RISER, THEN YOU HAD A FAR WALK TO GET ONE, ALSO THEY SHOULD SUPPLY FACECLOTHS, WE TOOK OUR OWN BECAUSE I READ REVIEWS BEFORE WE LEFT, FOOD WAS GREAT, ALCARTE WAS SUPER,AND DRINKS WERE GOOD, BUT BRING YOUR OWN GLASS FROM HOME AS THEY SERVE DRINKS IN SMALL SIZE, STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL, IT WAS A VERY CLEAN RESORT, POOL WAS CLEAN AND LARG [... read more]E, LOTS OF GREAT ACTIVITIES, WEATHER WAS NICE.

Perfect holiday spot

excellent spot to relax. food and liquid refreshments great. beach cleaned every day and the water temperature in ocean warmer than air. the beach bar was our favourite place to have lunch. the staff was accommodating and knowledgeable

Staff

Staff was very friendly and polite but no one spoke english! At times we had to use sign language to ask for help. Food was excellent. .beautiful swimming pools..Entertainment at night could have been better for kids as well as adults.

Grat Place! All as expected for the price paid

Coming back from a second trip of two weeks at Bahia Principe San Juan, i can say that for the price we paid its definately was as expected. Friendly stuff, lots of ameneties including a Casino ( for Advantage players : 3/6 pen ;) ) . Place can cater to many tastes in entertainment. It has several A la carte restaurants if the main bufet gets to repetetive with its food. The food is good, but the lack of change of variety gets a bit boring after the first week. Great place

The resort overall is a great place to stay. We like smaller resorts and this was ideal. All amenities are central and rooms spread out from there. Very clean, food was good. Staff very friendly though the language barrier at times was trying. 1hour 30 minutes from samana airport a little to long. Needs a little fixing up especially at the mini golf, and some room issues that were never fixed. But none of these would spoil your vacation. I. Would certainly visit again.

Great Resort

We stayed the last two weeks of January 2015 and this was our first time at a Bahia Principa resort. It is reasonably priced and we will be going back! The staff were all great, from the front desk to the gardeners, always pleasant and helpful. Waldy and Jaun Carlos at guest services were delightful. The resort is away from any large towns which is great because there were few pedlars, in Dominican they are very aggressive, so sitting on the beach was wonderful. The rooms are clean and kept clea [... read more]n daily. The fridge was always restocked with water, pop and beer. The shower was always hot and plenty of pressure. We had a fridge that was not working and within half an hour of telling the front desk the maintenance were replacing the fridge. The buffet restaurant always had a huge selection, a few times the food was warm not hot. The different cheese and cold cuts were wonderful. The fish was mild and always available. They do not label what type of fish though. The a la carte were all different. They need to refine there serving skills, maybe it is the Dominican way. The food was inconsistent. I had a wonderful lobster, but my wife had a terrible over cooked mess. We had our lunches at the burger restaurant and bar on the beach. It was always great.
