Front Desk Staff needs to be freindlier

The hotel has been under repair for a couple of years and the grounds and rooms are being upgraded for the better. I have been to Kawama many times over the Twenty years or so. I was always treated fairly by the front staff, but this time the public relation (Leida) is off sick and the quality of their services is suffering. I was disappointed in the hospitality we received during this trip. Best food in a resort in Cuba (6th time)

Great beach, grounds were ok. I paid too much but the time of year it is what it is. Beds were typical of Cuba - uncomfortable room also had issues in the bathroom that wouldn't take much to fix (mold on ceiling, soap dispenser hanging from a hole in the tile, pane of glass missing from bathroom door) and micro ants in the bathroom area.

Beautiful Beach and friendly staff!

We would compare the hotel to a university setting in regards to the rooms and the food. The beds were similar to cots and the food was average. However the beach is breath taking and the staff are very friendly and welcoming! I would come back for sure. The location makes it perfect to walk downtown or go to fabulous restaurants. It is an average hotel but the whole experience was awesome

Very good value for $$$$

Close to great beach , close to airport , walking distance to town (shopping and restaurants) , staff friendly and accommodating , kept clean grounds and pool area . Two good coffee bars, afternoon entertainment good ( aquatic dance , beach party)

Not bad, not good

-Hotel staff, pool, beach, and room were ok. -Resort is in a good location at one end of the Varadero strip. -Weather was very windy and/or cold 5 of 7 days (early Feb). -Food was terrible at the buffet. Lots of it, but very difficult to find anything that tasted good or looked appealing. The same food was recycled from one meal to the next. Even the coffee was bad (although you could get an ok cup in the hotel lobby). -No issues with any theft/crime/harassment on or off the resort. -Took two ex [... read more]cursions, both were ok. -Spoke to various people during our trip from various other resorts. Everyone seemed to have pretty much the same pros/cons in regard to their resorts. Terrible food, mediocre cleanliness, ok beach/pool/drinks, etc Glad we saw it and no regrets about the trip at all, but we'll never go back to Cuba. Compared to several other islands, we rank Cuba in last place.

Club Kawama

i have been to this resort several times. the reason i keep going back is because of the staff and how they make it like my second home.food is good as you will get in cuba. the beach is fantstic, entertainment great, lots to do 5 minute walk to downtown

Worth the price we paid!

Stayed at Club Kawama from February 7 thru to February 14/15. Travelled with my girlfriend and we are both in our 50's. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the reviews I read. Let me tell you, we had an amazing time! The staff and people there were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. They are constantly cleaning the pool area, halls, rooms, etc. The beach is a must see! Beautiful turquoise water and soft sand with a beach bar too! There was plenty of it every time you went to the buffet to eat and it was good! The snack bar was open 24 hours and you could get hamburgers, hotdogs and french fries which by the way were really good! The entertainment was awesome, there was always something going on. As far as I'm concerned, please don't judge this hotel by the reviews you read. Everyone always expects a 5 plus star hotel when they go away and don't want to pay a lot of money for it. It's not going to happen. Bonus of this place is that it is close to everything shopping, banks and restaurants. There was always lots to do. I had my best Cuba trip at this place and I will definitely be returning to Club Kawama again!!

Sub par resort.

Dirty Rooms. Unfriendly and not helpful staff. Paid for room safe, it had no door. They tried to refuse a refund. They over booked the resort while there. Nice beach. If staying here, upgrade to a villa!!!

Historic Resort!

At 83 years of age, we feel it has stood the test of time. We very much enjoy the sprawled out spaces & the remote feeling of being alone on the beach. Food has improved. Love the employees & cannot wait for our next visit!

Good times

Excellent value. The food was surprisingly good. The rooms are very basic but work well. Staff becomes friendly after being there a while or after they receive some tips. A lot of repeat guests there.

Fun vacation

Going down to Cuba to Kawama hotel was an adventure I took my cycling bike to Road right the roads are wonderful to ride on the hotel was 2 1/2 star and you do get what you pay for Being a cyclist great place to cycle we rode into Havana stay a night and came back . 125K each way good roads if you're cyclist you got to do it

Good low cost option

My second time at Club Kawama and you get what you pay for. I upgraded to a superior room this time and it was well worth it. Room 2602 with a small terrace facing the ocean. The food is not great but I could always find something to eat. The beach is wonderful and the pools are clean. The staff are friendly and really try to make your stay great. An easy walk into Varadero is one of the perks of this resort. Remember your vacation is what you make of it. If you find fault in everything, don't go to Club Kawama. If you enjoy warm weather, beautiful beaches and pools, nice people, enjoy your stay at Kawama at a decent price.

Not bad

We were basictly their for the sun, beach and sand. What need to be change is the beds they were horrible to sleep on and the beach at lease pass the tractor to clean up all the broken shells the disco on the resort was NOT good as they need to also get rid of the mould the smell and play more upgraded music :) other then that like i said we were their more for the sun beach and sand

Good Resort

Nice clean place. We enjoyed our stay. The food was quite good. Only disappointing thing was the disco. It stank of dampness and mould. None of the guests seemed to know where it was and as a result no one went even though it was open each evening. It should be aired out and publicized so that guests can go. Not enough night life at this resort.

Ok if you want cheap

The place itself was ideally located. It was close to town and you could walk or hop on the bus. The food was bland and not received well by my party of 15. We ended up eating off the resort a few times because of this. Unlike Cayo Coco the staff were not very friendly. In fact it seemed like they were inpartial to getting a tip. Could that mean that we trip in general tip too much. For example when we arrived at the hotel we had not exchanged our Canadian currency. It was in the older section and we had a great view of the front of the resort which also has a water view. There was entertainment every night which I did enjoy for the most part. As for towels you had to put a deposit of 10 pesos before you could get one. Every time I went there there were none. The maid service was only adequate. We got one small roll of toilet paper each day. They did not supply Kleenex and did not replace the small containers of shampoo, conditioner and bath gel. Our room had a small fridge and was supposed to be filled with some water and a bottle of rum. We mentioned this twice to the front desk but nothing was done about it. This room was an upgrade from the standard room which we paid an additional amount for. A few of our friends had issues with plumbing and had to be moved to other rooms. If you are looking for an economy flight on Cubana Air it was fine. I did enjoy myself but would think twice before I went back. Having said that 4 of our friends in our party have been to Kawama 3 or 4 times. One last thing, if you want to tip, give it to the grounds keepers, the ones that rake the lawn etc. we did and they were much more appreciative.

Amazing vacation experience!

This was our first family tropical vacation! The resort was beautiful! Clean! The three pools were Amazing! The staff were incredible. We had two shows a day pool side, one at 4pm and the other at 930pm. The beach was kept clean. There were lots of things for us as a family to do , a lifesize chest board, kayaking, sail boating, padal boating, snorkeling, basketball, billiards, ping pong, volleyball, tennis....all inclusive.....our children, aged 11 and 13 had an amazing time in a safe environme [... read more]nt. Security was tight and we never felt unsafe are in any harms way, as parents we could relax and have fun . The resort ensured adjoining rooms so we had a comfortable lovely family trip. Highly recommend this resort. Anyone we spoke to from other resorts, wished they had stayed at Club kawama as there were so many more things to take in, the shows, the fun atmosphere, the inclusive offerings:)

Lots of charm, excellent staff

This is my 2nd stay at Kawama, It got the updates it needed. New pool, new beach and pool chairs, better lighting etc and still maintains its charm/rustic feel. The location is great, beautiful beach, restaurants, bank and markets within walking distance. This resort has a party feel and is small enough that you never have trouble making new friends. I really enjoyed the food and never had gastric problems like all of my previous Cuba trips. My biggest pet peeve with this resort is the mosquito/ [... read more]sand flea problem at the pool bar.. I *strongly* recommend bringing bug spray(bigger can the better) and being very liberal with it anytime you're spending time after dark anywhere but especially at the pool bar. Also the in room safe are opened with a programmable key card. I brought tamper proof stickers just for my own piece of mind but also hoping to deter an entry while away. Our travel group is growing and alot are planning on returning in April which I will do in a heart beat. Repeat guests are treated well here. I defiantly recommend this resort for the location and value.

Kawama

i love the staff and ppl and its clean they tread me good .the weather amzing i feel good when im there swiming scooba diving lots to do also the serves is good safe place to be good food even nice place for tge kids nice 4 pool

Disapointed in resort

This was the least liked spot I've been to so far. It is not very appealing to the eyes. Below average resort. The grounds are not well maintained. Buildings need work. Could be a better selection of food. This resort needs some TLC. Pool was nice and beach was just beautiful. Spend a little more for a better resort!

Great time

This was my 6th time to cuba so I'm no stranger there. The beach was beautiful, and so were the people. I don't come for the food as it always leaves something to be desired, but I always found something to eat. I would return to club kawama, but I think I will spend my next visit in havana.
