Worthy of a return trip

Great experience. Great food. Great entertainment. Great amenities. Will return. Better WiFi a must. Resort must have an ATM. Staff were welcoming, warm and friendly. Met many Canadians who were repeat customers. A couple has been there 60 times. 6/7 trips / year to Amelia Cayo Coco.

Great place to Relax

Melia Cayo Coco is a very quiet hotel. Good food... I recommend the Italian and the International a la carte restaurants. The food was fantastic. The hotel is close to the airport (15-20 min). Very clean and the service is great. Very friendly staff. Beach is very nice and you can go for quite a long walk. Rooms are a little dated but everything worked. That wasn't really there although a couple nights they involved guests in the shows and we were up dancing. Disco was open every night from 11pm but I didn't see anyone using it. Great hotel though, I'd go back...many people are returning guests, we know of 2 people that have been 60 times and met a couple others who have been 8 or more times.

Loved Resort

Everything was very clean. People working at resort were always pleasant and helpful. Food was excellent with many choices. Activities plentiful. Loved painting at beach, foam party in pool, area where you could do yoga, stretching, etc. The shows at night were amazing (dancers very talented) and had the option of staying in lobby for other entertainment. Lots of umbrellas for shade and when we were there chairs were changed to white, with cushions and more cabanas added.

Wonderful place!

We had a very nice week at this clean and well organized resort! The food was very nice with fresh seafood (my favorite) for lunch and supper at the buffet, of course the buffet is plentiful of other delicious food too, what I like about this resort is they gave us different kind of food, so you don't have to have the same food every day. The entertaiment is very nice, I just wish that they would encourage guests to get out to dance more, I had a chance to play the bongos with the band at the restaurant by the beach and I was so happy. I also loved the fresh coconuts from the friendly gardeners. I certainly recommend this resort to other vacationers.

Great all-round resort!

This resort gives you great value. The food is good for Cuban standards, and the standard restaurant provides a variety of choices both for people who want to eat healthy and those who don't! We particularly enjoyed the salad bar, delicious Cuban ice creams, and variety of meats (especially fish) available at the grill. The beach is a lovely long beach at this the resort, but it was unfortunately very windy during the week we were there and the 'red flag' was up, so we didn't swim in the ocean. Because everyone congregated around the pool, there were insufficient umbrellas to provide shade and sadly, it's common for people to monopolize chairs when they're not even at the pool, so there was not enough seating. I enjoyed the dance lessons and aquafit, and my husband always partook in volleyball; but we would have enjoyed participating in more daytime activities if they were offered, as they were 3 years ago when I last visited the resort. The night-time shows were generally good, particularly the live rock concert, the dancers, and jazz band (with the amazing saxophonist)!

Nice place, greate staff

Very nice place perfectly suited at the Cayo Coco beach and split between ocean and lagoon. Good for all ages, couples and group of friends. The management keeps the resort and its staff is perfect in each and every way (mainly thanks to the general manager). However, some improvements might better to do now before it will be too late (I will talk about it later). We lik [... read more]ed it as perfectly fit to all our needs and generally exceeded our expectations. The lagoon bungalows were clean and we used each sqf of its layout wisely planed. We enjoyed from private built-in fully screened gazebo with very comfortable loungers. We had even a private railed walk way along the bungalow to observe the lagoon (and where we had a place even to dry our swimming stuff). The waters in the lagoon are salted and there are no mosquitoes or any other “nice pets”. The GS has two powerful and quite AC units and we barely run one that made the bungalow comfortable even at the most hat days. Women will definitely enjoy from the new updated shower set and bidet. Fridge was re-filled twice a day with beer, soft drinks and water. Lagoon Grand Suite is good for family vacation and party time of group of friends. Resort is small but it was never crowded at the public areas. However, if you want to reserve a good place around the pool, you better will be there earlier (well before 7 am). Guests of the bungalows also will enjoy from an extended check-out time (which was very convenient and we appreciated it very much – special thanks for sales manager Gyppsi!). The lagoon homes also have 2 TV, DVD and home theater set and better internet signal. Grounds are simple and well kept. Shows were absolutely stunning, well organized and generally lasted for ~1.5 hr up to 11 pm. After this time the resort was mainly quite (large portion of all gusts are 40+). However, civilized night life of the resort continued through the night at bars and lobby with great selection of local and imported drinks. Different fruit juices were prepared from fresh fruits at the buffet right in front of you. You could make any mix you want! Food was very good with large choice of vegetarians and meat-fish eaters. The big guy at the egg-stay did amazing job appreciated by everyone who tried his omelets! The guy at the fish grill also did a great job satisfying individual test of each guest! Many thanks to all staff! We enjoyed from swimming with dolphins and snorkeling at the reef and ride on the boat with glass bottom. Beach, sand and waters are marvelous (if you lucky with the weather!). Well, we were not that lucky and at 8 days from 15 we had windy weather with rough-to-very rough waters. Some improvements maybe required to keep environmentally sensitive waters of the lagoon at better shape. It seems to be some problems with sewage-septic system at the lagoon homes. Also the pool is rather small and especially at colder days when the majority of people trying to gather around the pool. Otherwise, everything is just great. Cube is getting better and becoming more expensive (which was expectable as more and more Americans started to come over), but we definitely will be back.

Quiet resort for adults

Was our 2nd stay: very good quality for the price. Service is excellent! Food is great for Cuba and I would say at least 4 stars! Wines are good and international alcools of any brands available. Rooms are clean and in order but old: need some renos soon. Room service is very good. Clientele was made mostly of mature couples looking for calm and rest. Entertainment is of very good quality. Enough beach towels but they should be replaced by new. Air Transat agent Deyani is great. The only thing that did not go we is the bus to go back to the airport: we was waiting in the lobby well ahead of time and nobody showed after 45 minutes late we were worried and we have been told that the bus stopped on time!!!! We never heard or seen nobody. By chance a SunWing bus went to the hotel and accepted to take us on board: many thanks to Joyce. At the airport we met an agent of Air Transat and we told him the bad story. He was very gentle and helpfully. Lastly, the plane to come back was terrible: I hate Boeing 737! So uncomfortable: it is the worst part of our vacation. SHoule say that I highly preferred the Airbus 330 which we had to go to Cuba.

Bad Service

We have travelled often to Cuba and love their coffee. We chose a premium lagoon room because it was advertised that room service was available for these rooms. Unfortunately room service is not available before noon and the room only had instant coffee, which was NOT refreshed daily. This was a major disappointment to us as our vision of enjoying morning coffee over the lagoon was not possible, ever, even after offering to pay special fees for the service. Also, front desk service was terr [... read more]ible. It took 40 mins to check out, leaving me 5 mins to grab something to eat before grabbing our bus.

Cuban Relaxation

My spouse and I just returned from Melia Caya Coco and as per comments previously mentioned, so far is the best resort in Cuba in my experience. Beach awesome, at times windy, no beach service (once a day) my only complaint. Food in buffet was terrific, all al la cartes good but small portions. Ordering the lobster at the international al la carte was delicious. No night life, everyone sound asleep by 10-11 pm. One night they had the White Show, which was good. Bar in main lobby has no seat [... read more]s, they make you sit down at tables, even when ordering a morning coffee, no communications-we like to sit at a bar and view/mingle, not here. Dinner reservations can be made in advance for al la cartes, make sure you print the confirmation. When i went to confirm at desk they did not have mine I simply showed the email and they honored the requested times, my sister in law had no problems her`s was there for her. Happy Travels

Awesome

The beach is one of the better ones we have been too. The buffet was excellent. Much better than expected. The a la carte restaraunts were mediocre. In fact we skipped one just to go to the buffet. It was a good thing as they were serving lobster in the buffet. The resort itself was very clean. The rooms were in good shape. No swim up bar in pool which was good. Very quiet place with a more mature crowd.

Lovely resort!

We have travelled to Cuba many times. Melia Cayo Coco is the best resort we have visited so far. The resort is spacious, clean and quiet. The grounds and gardens are very well maintained. Staff are friendly and professional, always making sure your needs are met and that you are enjoying your vacation. Wonderful night time entertainment. Something for everyone. Beautiful beach. The BEST Resort in Cayo Coco

The Melia Cayo Coco is by far the best resort in Cayo Coco and probably the best in Cuba. The rooms, food, beach and service are top notch. This was our 2nd visit to this resort and we are sure to return. Wonderful place to relax, rejuvenate and rest - the best getaway we could ask for.

Relaxing vacation at Melia Cayo Coco

At Melia Cayo coco the grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The room was comfortable and clean. I highly recommend the lagoon room. All the staff are very welcoming and attentive to your needs. The food is fantastic and there are always a lot of activities and entertainment going on.

Quiet paradise

We had a great stay at Melia Cayo Coco. The grounds were clean and well kept and the staff was very happy and efficient. The lobby at MCC was a lively place for entertainment at night. The beach here seems to be shared with 1/2 other resorts, but it's a huge beach so you can always find a nice spacious spot there. I'd recommend if you are a couple, or older friends who want to just relax in a quiet smaller resort this is definitely the #1 pic in Cayo Coco.

The best yet

This was the best holiday yet in CUBA, we have been to Holguin Cayo Coco and Varadero. Clean friendly, good food and exceptional service. We will return soon. And of course the beach absolutely amazing. Laurie and Marc

Enjoyable week at the Melia Cayo Coco

We traveled as a couple to Cuba March 1 - 8th, staying at the Melia Cayo Coco. Had a relaxing time despite some cooler weather, one day of heavy rains, and then high winds on the beach which made it impossible to do the beach thing for about 3 days. We were in one of the Lagoon rooms- which we recommend as the room was very comfortable, with a view and private balcony area with lounge chairs. Rooms were kept very clean and overall the resort was clean and well maintained. Mature tropical la [... read more]ndscaping provided atmosphere. The food was excellent, but after 5 days, felt the buffet was a bit repetitive. We enjoyed the restaurant meals, especially the Italian and International. The only negative was the crowded pool area - not the hotel's fault but due to the weather and winds on the beach, the one pool had to accommodate too many guests. We did two off site activities- a concert nearby by the Buena Vista Social Club, which was one of the highlights and an all-day jeep tour also a good way to get off the resort and see Cuban reality. Sunwing Nexus tours provided excellent service for both of these events. The evening entertainment in the Lobby bar area of the hotel was absolutely amazing -- many talented musicians were highlighted every night. Overall a positive experience and would recommend this "adults only" resort.

Wonderful week away!

Excellent resort. Staff are beyond fabulous. Our room was immaculately clean everyday, lots of activities, the beach is great, buffet and specialty restaurant food was great. I recommend the reef for snorkelling. Lots of fish. We had some poor weather so on my next trip I will take some travel games.

Everything We Wanted

Our trip to Melia Cayo Coco was amazing. It was everything we could have asked for. We were prepared by our trip advisor that it was a top rated hotel but a little antiquated. She was right on the money. The size of the resort was perfect. We could get to any spot on the resort within 5 minutes. The beach was amazing and very clean. The dining experience was fantastic. We really liked 2 out of our 3 a la cartes. The Italian restaurant by far had the best food. Service was superb. The International restaurant looking over the lagoon was excellent. The food and presentation was very good. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The Cuban restaurant was overall very good. Didn't enjoy the birds around my food. They did have great desserts. The buffet never disappointed us. The variety of food choices was excellent and the waiting staff were very attentive and the room was quite clean. Entertainment in the evening was wonderful. My favorite night was "Chillin Out". Wild costumes and interpretive dance. The dancing was very professionally choreographed and contained a lot of energy. The pool looked very inviting and there were plenty of activities. The grounds were kept very clean but it could use some newer plants and a little more color and variety in the flowers. Overall our experience was fantastic. I would definitely go back again and would recommend this to my family and friends.

Number One in our books

Melia Cayo Coco has now become our second home. We have met so many wonderful people and have many new friends with the staff. This resort is like a family and they treat you this way. The food, rooms and grounds are fantastic and we can wait to go back next year. This resort is 5+ in our books.

Best Resort

The resort is small and comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful, their favourite word is yes. The rooms are lovely and clean as is all the resort and especially the bathrooms. Good entertainment in the evenings and many activities during the day. We will be going back again next year.
