Don't believe the write up

Food is same all day every day. Found 3 pieces of glass in my salad. Special meals poor. Both of us got travel trots for a day. Rooms not cleaned well. Asked 3 times for deadbolt to be fixed- never was. Asked for new lightbulb in bathroom- not done. Safe didn't work halfway through week- fixed next day. We were told to leave our valuables in open safe... Beach is nice, 3 pools in same area joined by kiddie pool. Ask to book free catamaran or paddle boats on beach. $20 CUC gets snorkelling on nea [... read more]rby reef equipment included. Lots of activities. Friendly staff. Lots of bug bites. We paid extra for ocean view and were put on first floor looking at a sand pile. They moved us to second floor where we could see the ocean. There is no non-smoking area - continuously breathing in cigar and cigarette fumes. Glad I didn't have children exposed to it. Definitely not 4.5 stars.

Not a 4 star resort.

Registered with Sunwing vacations as a 4 star resort is a misrepresentation. The resort is old and in need of a facelift. Originally in a main floor room which was to have an ocean view but we had a sand pile to look at. Moved to a second floor room and we got a beautiful view. Complained that the door dead bolt didn't work but it never was repaired during our stay. The food was good but we both got stomach bugs on different occasions which wasn't good. Life jackets optional according to the guide. Bad idea! I would not recommend this resort to my friends. Beach was outstanding. Lots of comfortable beach chairs but beach towels not always available every day.

Great vacation!

I travelled with a friend for 7 days in January. I've been to Cuba twice before but not Cayo Coco, all of the reviews I read were decent for Cuba so I had some hopes for this resort. I was not disappointed!! The beach is beautiful and the sand is fine and white, it never blows around no matter how windy it gets. Even with a full resort t [... read more]he beach looks empty. The resort was immaculate and the rooms were nice but our room was definitely in need of some TLC. We didn't mind because we didn't plan on staying inside much anyway. Beds are hard, bathroom is beautiful and spacious. The shower is a rainfall type and we always had good pressure and never ran out of hot water. There is no door on the shower but if you adjust the shower head you don't spray much on the floor. Working iron and hair dryer. Our safe wasn't free and we didn't have a coffee maker in our room. The fridge was stocked everyother day, not daily. The staff are all incredible!!! The entertainment staff are lots of fun and were successful in getting a variety of people involved, music is mostly Salsa with a few main stream songs thrown in. They had live music every evening in the lobby and each night was different. They had a beach foam party the day we arrived (Friday) and again on Thursday but at the pool. The pools are smaller than any I've seen at other resorts but they have two that you can choose from. The pool bar has a waterfall and the staff always available to either bring drinks to you or you can swim up and order. The dancers are incredibly talented and each night there was a different show, we both loved going every night. Food, well it's Cuba...don't expect to have high quality food but we never went hungry. Neither of us got sick and we both tried a variety of foods. The buffet is always the same but not many line ups as they have 3 grills going and also a pasta and pizza bar. The pizza and pasta were sooooo delicious! Eggs, fruit and bread every morning and lots of fish available everyday. They make burgers and fries as well and pork and beef. Other than the buffet there were two other snack bars that always had burgers, salads and fries. Sometimes chicken was grilled at the beach grill but we only seen that available one day out of 7. We did not try any a la carts. We went to pillar beach and we were not disappointed, the beaches sand is like icing sugar and no seaweed to be seen for miles and miles. It's rated one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, I highly recommend a trip or a few there! Drinks were plentiful and the bar staff always happy to serve, they seemed to enjoy their jobs and are often singing and dancing around a little. I definitely will be returning to this resort...before booking this trip I had mentioned that this would be my last in Cuba but I've completely changed my mind since vacationing at this resort.

Great quality/price

We stayed in an upated room. Most rooms are seaview, they are basic and clean. The grounds are well cared for. Food was OK, something for everyone. Make sure your fish and chicken are cooked properly. Lobby quite nice. The best beach is definitely in Cayo Guillermo.

AMAZING STAFF!!

I appreciate the attention you afforded me. I will definitely call you again when I travel. This was by far the best experience I have had in Cuba. The staff really went out of their way to assist and make your stay comfortable in any way they could. They were full of smiles and ready to chat at any time a [... read more]nd not bcse it would get them a tip...on the contrary if anything I had a hard time tipping bcse they kept turning it down. Even the shop keepers were quite generous, I heard about people whose baggage was lost in travel were offered toiletries and sunscreen free. I tried to just buy a pen and they would not have it, but rather just giving me one (I know this seems trivial to us in Canada but in Cuba this is a very nice gesture) . The hotel was well maintained and clean. The grounds impeccable. The pools were clean. and well stocked with chairs and towels. The beach was fantastic with lots of places to swim and explore or to just sit and enjoy the Pelicans diving for their dinner. The mattresses and pillows were quite comfortable and seemed like they were just recently replaced. A real plus for me and my asthma, was the fans in the bathroom and the air conditioning vents were clean and free of dust and mold. They kept the fridges well stocked. I did not see any bugs in my room at all and no one I met had either. I would bring bug spray for the evenings as there were a few mosquitos around maybe bcse it is a nature reserve. I was travelling by myself and felt very safe in and around the hotel and with the staff. I found it amazing that two days after I got there, I went to the front desk and the woman remembered my room number! That was nice personal touch. The hotel is on a smaller scale ( I believe they said 390 rooms) so you never had to fight line ups and there was always room for you wherever you went. The food at this resort was by far better than any of the other places I have visited in Cuba...the bread was amazing I only would hope they get better at labelling their dishes so you can eat around any sensitivities you may have. The evening entertainment was super with a variety of things you could lose yourself in. Being from Canada I forgot that in Cuba smoking is allowed. On a few nights I was uncomfortable but when there was a nice evening breeze it was fine. However I think a designated smoking area would be beneficial for both sides of this argument. Thank you Rosa, Ciedel, Pablo, Horja, and Divan ( only a few of the names I remember) I hope to see you again. You made my first experience travelling alone a great one! In conclusion my only complaint is I didn't take a 10 day trip instead of a 7 day trip. Oh! One more thing the airport was not as intimidating as my last few trips to Cuba. The staff were very friendly

A Memorable Holiday

My wife and I along with our son stayed at Iberostar Daiquiri in Cayo Guillermo for 2 weeks from January 12 to 26. We had an ocean view unit on the second floor of Guadalavaca building. It is a quiet place with plenty of coconut trees and lush vegetation. The view of the ocean from our balcony was spectacular. The unit itself was quite spacious with a king sized bed and a roll-a-bed. It came with a good sized TV (about 30") and a fridge which was replenished with soft drinks and water on a dai [... read more]ly basis. The bus ride from the airport took only about half-hour, which is a welcome change from the one and a half hours we had to spend on the bus going to Cayo Santa Maria last year. An additional bonus associated with the bus ride this time is that we were able to see beautiful Flamingos at close range in a lagoon close to the causeway. Actually, the lagoon is within walking distance from our resort that we were able to go and see the Flamingos again. The check-in was pretty fast and hassle-free, thanks to an efficient and friendly front desk staff. The food in the buffet restaurant was fairly average, if not boring, during the first two days. But after my wife complained about it to the guest services manager, there was a dramatic improvement. In fact, the hotel was so obliging that we were treated to a free lobster dinner. The breakfast was very good and covered a wide range of items such as eggs, sausages, ham, fresh fruits and juices. For lunch, there was fish, chicken and other meat. The dinner was also very good with a wide variety of items. In addition to the buffet restaurant, guests could make reservations at 3 other restaurants-Mexican, Cuban, and Italian. We visited all of them and found the Mexican to be the best. On the whole, the quality of food in our resort was very good and we have no complaints. The beach is by far the main attraction. The water is so clear and shallow that one could see various kinds of fish without going too far into the ocean. One other point is that unlike in the past, the beach has now been expanded quite a bit thereby making it easy for people to walk several miles. We saw people flying kites, paddle boating, kayaking and fishing. Just a short distance from our hotel is Playa Pillar, which is believed to be even nicer than Guillermo. It can be reached by taking a ride on a double-decker bus for 5 CUCs. We did not go there but our son did. He was highly impressed and feels that it is one of the finest beaches he has ever seen. On balance, it was a great holiday and we have nothing but high praise for Daiquiri as well as for Cuba and its people. The country is extremely safe and relatively clean. This was our fourth visit to Cuba (although our first visit to Daiquiri) and we hope to go to the same resort next year too.

Excellent staff

As a repeat client, we were treated with exceptional care. We received a welcome bouquet of roses & a bottle of rum. Food was great and the staff at this resort go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Will return once again in April.

Great resort, super staff!

My wife and I really enjoyed the resort and newly extended beach. Weather was great, food not bad and water was all the shades of blue. Our recently renovated room and balcony faced the ocean even though it wasn't requested.

Worse than what we expected

There was mold in the room and they cleaned it after 2 days. Also,our luggage was lost for 2 days.Aditionally, there was a very long line up at the buffet all the time. There was a shortage of tawels and we couldn't exchange them for 3 days.Finnaly,the intertainment was good and the staff was friendly.

Great place

It very clean and the food is amazing the staff makes you feel like family. The water pressure is not the best but it still good to have showers in. The beach is beautiful one of the nices I have ever seen. I hope to go back in a couple of year I love it there

Great resort

This hotel has beautiful grounds and is kept very clean. The employees are knowledgeable and very friendly. Very good choices in food and decent room. Would definitely return. Plenty of lounge chairs both at the pools and the ocean.

Solid 4 Star

Mother/daughter vacation. Airport arrival very smooth and quick. Comfortable air conditioned bus to the resort. Probably took an hour because we stopped at a few hotels before ours but not a problem. Check in was very fast. Front desk staff were always very helpful and quick. Room was very nice. Cleaning staff did a very good job. Excellent towel art! Lots of fish in the water right off the shore. Plenty of shade. Took Catamaran from resort out to reef for $20 CUC for a couple of hours. Very worth it. Food at resort was very good. Lots of variety. A la carte restaurants were the best yet. Specially the mexican and cuban. Ate off resort one night at Ranchon Cuba Libre. Just along the beach west of the hotel. $25 CUC for lobster dinner. EXCELLENT. $10 CUC for 1 hour horseback riding with Juan Carlos. Very good. $5 CUC for bus to Playa Pilar. Beach about 10 minutes away. Very beautiful and worth the adventure. I would definitely recommend the Daiquiri!!!!

Great staff

Overall, this was an awesome resort. The staff were so friendly and nice. The food was what ou would expect from a resort in Cuba. The only downfall were the subpar showers and the inconsistency in pool towel availability. But the friendly, over accoodating staff really made up for that. We'd go back for sure!

Very much at home here

we have been to your resort a number of time and keep coming back because the staff,from the check-in desk to everyone else treats their guests as if we were family. The beach is fantastic as well as the pool area, very clean. The food in the dining room is well presented and the dining room staff treat you well.

Great time

staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was acceptable however very repetitive. Rooms were decent. Pools were a bit small but overall it was a great time. Would go again. Loved that the kids club was right beside the pool so I could stay at the pool and still see the children.

Belles vacances en famille

J'ai voyagé avec mon conjoint, ma fille, son conjoint, leur fils de 2 ans et demi et leur fille de 5 mois. Nous avons eu une superbe semaine. Le service nous a agréablement surpris tout le personnel sympathiques, serviables. Nous avons beaucoup voyagé dans le sud mais pas souvent nous avons eu des serveurs sur la plage a la piscine, vraiment bon service. La propreté Impeccable notre femme de chambre nous faisait pleins de petites attentions. Parc pour enfants, piscine et piscine pour enfants. La plage est très belle, mais il y avait beaucoup d'algues la semaine que nous y étions. Ils ont élargie la plage donc les chaise et parasol très loin de l'eau. Le buffet n'est pas très gros mais on trouve toujours, car il y a le grille des viandes, des pâte alimentaire, des poisson et l'autre changeant des fois fruit de mer et d'autre fois hamburger, hot dog. Pizza, salade, viande froide. Bien heureuse de nos vacances rien a dire de vraiment négatif, en plus tout est proche de nos chambres, piscine, plage, salle a manger, réception, et bars Un gros merci a tout les employés de cette hotel Guylaine

Good time

We had a beautiful trip with our two kids. Beach is near the hotel. There's a small pool for young children. The meals were good. The only deception was that their was many seaweeds on the beach. The service is great.

Amazing ocean view!

Second floor ocean view room, clean and updated bathroom. Enjoyed sunrise and sunsets overlooking the ocean from my balcony. The Buffet had something for everyone. The staff were awesome in every department, made you feel at home. Beach was amazing, lots of loungers available. Would definitely revisit.

Best Resort I've Been To

This was my 12th visit to Cuba, and my first at this hotel. I can honestly say it was my favourite. My room was exactly as I requested, top floor, overlooking the pool, king size bed! The grounds were just beautiful and well kept. The beach, well what can you say about the most gorgeous beaches in the world....it was fabulous. Perfectly clear, soft white sand, plenty of sunbeds and miles of beach to walk. I didn't eat at any of the a la cartes. The food in the buffet was the best I've ever h [... read more]ad in all my visits to Cuba. The staff were very friendly, always smiling, always asking you if everything was okay. I travelled solo and actually felt the staff were looking after me a little bit, which was so nice. I would return to this resort in a heartbeat.

Small & comfortable resort

The hotel is small, easy to get around. Rooms are clean & the bed is comfortable. Food is ok for Cuba. Beach is amazing now that they have extended it. Lots of shade spots. The workers are all amazing. Will help with all your needs. No need to tip, but they are very grateful when you do.
