Great Value for Money!

My partner and I recently stayed for 2 weeks at Club Amigo Atlantico. Overall we had a really good time at a bargain price. To simplify my comments, I will list them in two sections - Positives and Negatives: POSITIVES: - Sunwing were extremely well organized and the in flight service excellent - Trip Central were outstanding in their helpful suggestions. The web site is so easy to navigate and full of useful information about the resort (s). - I must agree with all other reviews regarding [... read more] the location. The beach is excellent and you can actually enjoy a view of the ocean while relaxing next to the pool. A short walk away is 'Pirates Cove' - a sheltered cove with a calm sea; and definitely recommended if you wish to get away from the music and other noise around the main pool. - The staff were very helpful and friendly. - Bearing in mind what is available on this island and what we paid for the trip, the food was good. Much of the same at the buffet, but it was OK. Terrible coffee!!. The a la carte restaurants made a nice change.The food was nothing special, but the wines served were much better than the buffet house wine. - Evening activities were good. We particularly enjoyed the water ballet and the "light and dark show." - Good piano music in the lounge, but please, please, please get that piano tuned! - We had a 'seaview room' although we could not see much of the sea due to the tall trees outside our window. The room was clean and spacious (but see below). Our maid ( Mary Lou?) was charming and so attentive to all our needs. NEGATIVES -The resort is huge and we managed to get lost a few times. What didn't help was that the maps on the walls were seriously outdated and misleading. We tried to find the clinic once but gave up as we were so confused. We missed some shows at the beginning as we thought they would be at the main stage near the main building. (makes sense doesn't it?), However, they were at another location, about 10 minutes walk away. This was a pain, particularly when it was pouring with rain, which it did often at night. The good news was that, if you waited long enough, you could get a ride on a hotel golf cart. - Despite the many no smoking signs, people were smoking everywhere. You could not get away from the 'second hand smoke.' There is an urgent need for some designated non smoking areas which are monitored by hotel staff. - Our room had no drawers in which to put your clothes. Not even a small chest of drawers. Nothing! We left our clothes in our suitcases. There was some hanging space and we made the best of that. - We expected to find a fridge in the room. However, there was simply an empty space under the TV, where the fridge should have been. We phoned reception and a fridge was promptly delivered to our room. Nothing was mentioned about an extra fee. Imagine our surprise when we checked out, when the manager at reception insisted that we pay an extra $20.00 for the fridge. We tried our best to point out that this was unfair and unacceptable. However, the manager was adamant because the charge was "in the computer'. So, we paid the $20.00 under protest. - The steps into the main pool were totally inadequate; in fact dangerous because they were small, slippery and had no rail to hang on to. An accident waiting to happen. - No wheelchair access to the pool and beach from the hotel.!! SUMMARY Certainly worth 3.5 stars and many of the problems can be fixed at a low cost. We had a great holiday and may return one day.

Beautiful beach!

This resort is pretty much exactly what you would expect for this price point in Cuba. I highly recommend the upgrade to a Villa to make your stay more enjoyable. Staff is friendly for the most part and try their best with limited supplies. Have brekkie at the Villa 24 hour bar lunch at main resort on the beach buffet and dinner at an a la carte, they serve pretty much the same food but service is nice. Avoid the lobster, try the shrimp at the Mediterranean restaurant. Drinks are best at Pi [... read more]rate bar (12-4 on small beach), 24 hour bar(ask if they have tonic) and dessert coffee at Ashley's cafe. WiFi is best at the small utility hut just off the path from the 24 hour bar - there is a hub over the door! Keep your wifi card or buy an extra for the airport, the wifi is government supplied and the card will work there but you can't buy one there. Know what to expect for what you paid and have a great time!

Pretty decent over-all

Very good beach with a nice little cove in one spot. Rooms are small and old but functional. Large resort with many different areas and pools. Friendly staff. Food was mediocre but it is just a 3 star resort.

Atlantico Guardlavaca

We had a nice time with family and friends at this resort in spite of the Rainey weather ,which wa unusual. They are renovating the resort which is starting to be very dated but still good value. This year we noticed a lot of shortages at the bars and dining rooms due to new management cut backs and crop failures, due to the weather. The resort employees are super friendly but unhappy with the way new management is running things. An awesome time

The beaches here are absolutely beautiful. Love the colour of the ocean and white sandy beaches. The resort had 4 pools so we were never bored. The coffee bar was a hit. The food was a little repetitive.

Good time

We had a really good time and really enjoyed the variety of pools, dining experiences and beaches. Will go again and would recommend this resort to others. The rooms were only OK. The staff was friendly. Mary Bresett

Genuine Cuba

Nestled between the Atlantic coastline and varied shoreline filled with tropical trees and plants small meadows and hills this resort offers a little of everything an inquisitive traveller could hope for .Its grounds are large and well manicured .Its architecture is a mix of traditionnal thatched roof and wood as in the 24 hour resto/bar and functional or utilitarian cement,metal and marble with accents of wood and glass.The rooms vary greatly in size and comfort levels.

Really Great Resort

People who work there are our friends(amigos).You get what you pay for and more.There is no way anyone can say the food wasn't acceptable. There was always something good to eat. Our room was cleaned everyday. We were treated kindly and we appreciated that.

Nice vacation

We enjoyed ourselves, great value for price. They ran out of certain foods, and alcohol but usually had it the next day. We had mixed weather but were never bored, our bed was comfortable but could have used a couple extra pillows, we did request one but it never made it to the room

Wonderful Resort

The resort and the staff were great. Any concerns with the room were addressed promptly. The food was fresh and service was friendly. The atmosphere was conducive to total rest and relaxation. This was our second visit to the resort. We would have no reservations when recommending our experience to others.

Average Resort

Overall the Resort is good, the beds in the rooms need some upgrading, the food is fair, the beaches are beautiful and grounds are well kept, service needs some work I'm blaming it on language barrier, Carlo at the 24hr snack bar is amazing excellent service and so friendly. I would return to this resort the price is amazing and we had a great time.

Garden View

When we booked we took the designation "Garden View" literally, being unaware of what it really meant. When you book 'Garden View' you are in the older part of the hotel commonly referred to as the barracks. Some of these rooms are starting to be refurbished, but you might want to consider an upgrade to the main hotel just to be safe.

Good but bad weather ! Rainy every other day! January 25 th to Feb 1st

Weather was bad ! Only three days good and one was on the last day! Misquitos were biting us as they formed after the rain. Club Amigo Guarda La Vacca is good hotel resort but lacks some service ! Only two towels per room and sometimes the foot towel was not there! We stayed in a standard suite, I would recommend you upgrade to a Bungalow or Garden View Suite or even a Villa . Or try to stay in the hotel itself ! Hotel is near the beach and very good service. Lots of bars, A La Carte Dinne [... read more]rs, and Restaurants . Taxis and Horse Carts are ready to take you around. Beach is very nice and long. There are some small beaches if you want privacy . Also you can go to the Briasas Beach next resort. Everyone is friendly and you meet alot of Europeans from Italy, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine .

Amazing Resort!!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca is an amazing resort to stay! The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is always something to do. you can go on a day trip, quick one hour bus rides, or just hang out at beach or pool(s). There are at least 4 pools, multiple snack bars, or restaurants. If it's rainy, you can grab your book or game and sit in the lobby or snack bar. You also meet lots of new people, and sometimes friendships develop. Club Amigo

1st room was a disaster. They put us in the barracks at the end of the hall. Small room no patio. A/C not working. Just an awful room. They are now called Garden View. Moved next day to the main building for $6.00 more a day. Now called Tropicana.

Great Relaxing Paradise

Booked a villa, had extra sitting room and bathroom. Great for entertaining. Four (4) pools, two (2) buffet dining rooms and three (3) snack bars to choose from. Fantastic beaches, one large 1km beach and several smaller ones. Food and entertainment were great, hard not to add a pound or two when dining here. And of course there are bars everywhere with friendly staff waiting to prepare your favourite drink. Have been nine (9) time and looking forward to many more good times here.

Great time

My daughter and I spent a week at club amigo. When we arrived we had booked a basic room. Room was small 2 twin beds and had no hairdryer in bathroom. The next day we upgraded to the tropical section. I have mixed feeling the room was bigger and had a hairdryer but really no better. The tropical section is very loud compared to the barracks where we were before. Had I known I would have stayed at the barracks. Overall we had a great time. The staff was great and friendly. The beach’s had sand fleas so we stayed at the pools which were just as good. Overall we had a great time for the price and would return.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca Cuba

We just got back January 29th 2018 from this resort. We were booked to stay in the bungalow section but quickly decided to upgrade to the villa's after seeing the bungalows. The bungalows were just too small to house 3 people. Save some money when you are booking and book in the villas. It is much less costly for you to book at home than at the resort !! ($156 peso's for a two week stay one peso = 1 U.S. $.) The 5000 building is right by the gym, restaurants and pool with a great view of t [... read more]he ocean. We however found this resort much too sprawled out and way too large. There is a lot of walking involved to get from here to there and all shows are at the bungalow sections. Also I would just like everyone to know to bring a " very good pair of walking shoes " and to to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when walking on the walkways and in the hotel's lobby ...WHEN THE FLOORS ARE WET !! ... The floors are VERY SLIPPERY !! and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to walk on !! This resort is a pretty good bang for your dollar and the food is pretty darn good too. Reception and bar and restaurant staff are very slow ( some not all) unless there is a peso or two passed between you and them. All and all this resort is a good value on a limited budget.

Fantastic

Beautiful clean beach(s), friendly people, lots to see and do. With 4 pools, 3 buffet restaurants, 5 a la carts restaurants, 2 snack bars, 24 hour bar. The BEST WINE BAR - EVER. JOEL my friend.. see you again real soon

I love Club Amigo

This is an older hotel but they have been working at updating throughout. Staff are amazing. I feel very safe when I stay at this hotel. There are smiles and a wave or Buenos dias from all the staff. There are lots of activities available to participate in if one wishes. The sand beach is wonderful. There is plenty of ocean front for walking along and the swimming is fantastic. The food is plentiful and the ice cream is delicious. The a la carte restaurants add a special evening of fine dining. Returning guests are given a wonderful 5 course dinner including lobster and shrimp cocktail topped off with baked Alaska. This is a great treat. There are plenty of small restaurants and bars available throughout for snacks or lunches as well as breakfast.
