Pleasantly surprised

Monticristo room was spacious but a little tired as is the resort as a whole however the staff where all so friendly and the service was on the most part very good. The pool is very large and there are always loungers available throughout the day. The beach is very good but you have to be there early to get a good spot and chairs. Buffet was very busy and crowded and one had to line up and wait for a table to be available unless you arrived right at the opening time. Very nice resort+

The grounds were perfectly groomed the buffet and the alacarts were fantastic as i had lobster three nights in a row and the beach as my wife will tell you it is the best one in all of Holguin. The people were very friendly and we wanted our room changed after the first night and they did not even blink to give us a different spot.

Great resort

Grand Older Resort

The resort may be aging, but this has lead to the grounds becoming a beautiful mature oasis. The rooms are functional and everything works at this large resort. Food, pool and beach will not disappoint you. It is large so be prepared to walk around this tropical garden in beautiful Holguin Cuba.

Happy Place

Enjoyed our vacation at Playa Pesquero very much.Picturesque entrance and reception area. Everywhere you looked people were happy and smiling. Every employee from the front desk to the maid to the gardner were quick to offer a friendly gesture and make you feel welcome. Beach is beautiful and great place to enjoy a walk. Pool area allowed for fun times and socialising with people from various parts of the world. Pool staff, bartenders, animation team always working hard to please.

Great resort with Lots of activities for everyone. Huge selection of food. Very friendly staff. Beautiful grounds. Live entertainment. Large pools. Large rooms. Nice walking beach. Paddle boats, sailing and snorkelling

Large resort

Nice resort if you like a lot of walking, not great if you have health issues with walking far. Food is okay, canned vegetables and fruit. Not great for a vegan or vegetarian but great for a huge variety of meats and cheeses. Fresh donuts and churros made everyday. Room was clean but we had a bout of bed bugs. So bring your spray. Only one brand of beer is served.

Good value for the money

It took awhile to get oriented as to where everything was located on such a large complex. Not all A la Cartes and restaurants were open in early November as it was just the beginning of high season. Staff were very friendly and accommodating but do expect tips. Beach was beautiful and the pools very large. Pools are very kid friendly. No complaints on the meals - you could always find something good to eat and had lobster at the A la Carte every evening. Rooms are dated but to be expected for Cuba but kept very clean (this didn't matter to us as we were basically only in the room to sleep, shower and change)

Pleasant resort

The hotel, dinning rooms, guestrooms were extremely clean. The bathroom could use a little updating. The staff were very professional, considerate and pleasant. The grounds including the pool were very lovely and well maintained.

Exceptional Vacation - Here

Food quality was excellent and the hot items were almost always hot and the cold items were not warm, but cool. Their service,hospitality and grounds cleanliness were 2nd to none. It is a resort that is quite isolated from shopping, but they do have trinket shops and vendors on the resort, for gift items. Our room did have a major water leak from the ceiling on the 2nd last day of our holiday. It was promptly addressed and cleaned up. This particular room had been experiencing this same water pr [... read more]oblem in the past, as there was evidence of swelling wood in the closet of the room entrance. FYI- Food to the beach is a bad idea, as it will attract ants that bite. Example. Bread to feed the fish. Snorkeling off the beach is worth doing, for the vibrant colors of the fish! Also lots of activities, organized by the hotel that you may choose to participate in. All in all- a fantastic holiday here !!! The catamaran excursion to snorkel and then swim with the dolphins is also a very enjoyable day. P.S. Don't forget to bring your BUBBA MUG !!!

Very bad resort,don't recomend

Very bad service almost everywhere,tips don't really make a lot of difference. You can stay in lane in bar,waiter can be rude,beach guys behave like mafia, openly asking for money or refuse service altogether.

Cubas diamond in the ruff

Our vacation was from Oct 12-19/2018. We were here to celebrate our birthdays together. The resort went out of their way to wish us a happy birthday at the ala carte Restaurant we booked. The resort was very large and inviting as well as a beautiful pool with swim up bar and amazing white sand beach. Most workers were welcoming and had no trouble communicating with the language barrier. Wonderful Trip

Very relaxing and soothing. The people are all very welcoming and respectful. Great weather, open water, and the hotel room was clean and tidy. Also the receptionists are very friendly and efficient. Will definitely be going back soon.

Outstanding!

My wife and I just got back from a week at the Playa Pesquero and have nothing but positive feedback to offer. The resort was clean and attractive, the staff was friendly and helpful, the food was thoroughly enjoyable and the extracurricular activities were many and varied. We are already planning our next visit - and have invited friends to join us!i

Nice resort

We have stayed there in August for 1 week. We liked hotel. Nicely decorated and clean rooms; nice beaches; friendly staff; food is ok, not to many choices. Lots of local Cuban people on the beach using hotel chairs. Be aware beach towels are often "lost".

Fantastic trip

Our trip to Playa Pesquero was excellent. We stayed from Aug 14- 21 2018. The beach was fabulous. You can’t get any nicer than this. The water was a lovely turquoise blue, so enjoyable to swim in and lots of sun beds to lie on the beach. The food was great for cuban standards. My family and I love seafood so there was plenty of that and we ate that pretty much lunch and dinner. Our rooms where comfortable and clean as is the rest of the resort. To get wifi you have to purchase a card. 1 CUC gives you 1hr of internet. I thought this was very reasonable Some of the negatives or areas to improve. Some more garbage bins on the beach. At the end of the day we found lots of cigarette butts, plastic straws and cups lying around. This was disappointing to see as some of that garbage ends up in the beautiful water. One day my sister and I went around picking up some of this trash because it broke our hearts that this will end up in our oceans. This is not the resort’s fault as people should have the courtesy to clean up after themselves but maybe they can reconsider straws for instance, more bins on beach and signs saying don’t litter. My other suggestion is with the cooking practices. None of us got sick but my sister went one night to order a shrimp stir fry and another guest ordered a chicken stir fry and the cook used the same utensil to cook the chicken and the shrimp. She didn’t end up eating it because she was afraid of cross contamination and getting sick. We had spoken to some guests and heard that some people had to go to the emergency with food poisoning. This is the easiest way to avoid your guests don’t get sick. Also, it would be nice if some of the cooks could get started at the grilling stations before people arrive. The line up can be really long and I think this would not only get your guests served quicker but your cooks would be under a lot less stress. We were also very surprised that all week they didn’t have french fries anywhere in the resort. This wasn’t such a big deal for me but my dad really enjoys some fries on vacation. My last suggestion is for guests. I would suggest exchanging a few dollars at the airport if possible. The first few days it can take over 1hr at the resort to exchange money. I didn’t check the rate at the airport. The resort gives for 14.30 CUC for $20CAD. The staff for the most part were very nice and friendly. They work extremely hard to keep the resort clean and meet their guests needs. We would definitely come back.

Horrified

We are still in shock over what we went through on our “vacation” at Playa Pesquero. We were a group of 2 families. Five of us were very sick and in and out of the doctor on site. 2 children had to be put on IV for 7 hours. I was the only one that was sick in our family and was able to leave our room most days by not eatting anything but bread and still having to constantly run to the bathroom. Our other family had to stay in their room for almost the whole trip. It was very difficult for th [... read more]em to get water, towels and food to their room. The resort is so run down and has mold and algae growing everywhere. The food selection is limited and horrible and is in our opinion the cause for our illness. We were terrified to eat anything and to let our children eat anything because of what our families children went through. Our Air Canada rep did everything he could for us. Air Canada should not be letting anyone travel to this resort, we were mislead into thinking this was a high class Cuba resort. We have all been to Cuba multiple times, traveled around the Carribean and I have travelled to many countries around the world. I have never experience conditions like this. A lot of people were this sick and more sick than us. When we travel we try to look at positive reviews, as many times the negative reviews are often small complaints but please read only the bad reviews for this resort as they are true and valid. Do not risk your children’s health by going here, my husband spent the week taking care of me while being scared that our toddler and 6 year old would be too sick to travel home.

Amazing experience

This was our first time in Cuba and we will highly recommend the Playa Pesquero. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The entire experience was very positive. We truly felt that we got value for our money. There is a lot to do and enjoy at the resort.the food was good

Very nice resort .

I was realy very surprised, but I also asked a friend of mine about this hotel and got good review.restaurants are very nice and definitely everyone should go and make the alakart restaurant reservation on the first day because its realy nice I like the seafood restaurant I had a excellent lobster for dinner aswell the shrimps.
