Memories Cayo Largo: Best 3.5 star in Cuba with a 5 star beach, interior bar, clean rooms and great dance shows.

Vacationed here from May 26th - June 2nd. Now if you want a smaller simple nice resort with a great beach, social interior bar with warm ambience, clean rooms, great dance shows and good service then this is the one for you. 5 minutes from the airport and you have arrived! No time wasted in transit. This combined with an 11 am arrival make it a true 7 day vacation. You get all the basics well done at the Sol Cayo Largo. The beach has powder coral sand which does not get hot underfoot! Cayo Santa Maria often get jellyfish but rarely here. The awesome section of beach is often wavey but can be still at times. As someone who enjoys bodysurfing I got my fill on short run near beach break waves. Tons of beach chairs and umbrellas. The room air conditioning was a new modern up to date Westinghouse unit witch worked perfectly! Staff were nice, keep some Cuban dollars for tips. The average Cuban wage is $25 a month, so a Cuban dollar tip is greatly appreciated! Water pressure is low but that was ok considering this is an island I am glad they conserve their water. Food is 3.5 star Cuban, no fresh veggies because everything must be shipped in but I was satisfied to find something I liked in every meal. I really enjoyed the evening dance shows, the best I have seen in Cuba, with really beautiful dancers with a pro ballet repertoire and nice choreography. This resort, and I am a bit conflicted to write it as it will drive up the price, is a best kept secret among its fans. I met many many guests who were repeat guests. Several claimed 10 times, one couple 40 times another woman 35 times. That is the best testimony I can give to this resort.

Memories Cayo Largo: Heavenly ! Sol Cayo Largo Resort !

I highly recommend this very lovely resort hotel. We booked dinner reservations at all the restaurants,Trinos, Ranch House, International cuisine & Lobster on the beach dinner The food was excellent,with a variety of fruits, vegetables, salads, fish and meat dishes & desserts, to choose from. We especially enjoyed the Lobster on the Beach, which I highly recommend. The grounds of the resort are very nicely kept, with beautiful flowers & coconut palms everywhere. We chose the Superior Ocean  [... read more]View Room, large room with a very clean lovely size bathroom. However the view was a bit disappointing as our room was on the lower lever. Service is excellent. The Pool is beautifully maintained. Enjoyed the swim up bar , and restaurant overlooking the pool & the cuban music. Food service by the pool is fast & most enjoyable as well. There is also a cafe open 24 hours, for morning or evening cappuccino, drinks etc....which overlooks a fish pond, & pool, which I very much enjoyed. Service was excellent, and the reception was very friendly & helpful.

Memories Cayo Largo: Needs a lot of renovation!

We've been going to this hotel since 12 years and we find that more than 60% of the people comes back to this place. We find that since Melia took over, the quality of the food, hotel rooms has declined. The hotel needs renovations but when they do it, they paint it all white taking off all the charms of the colors before. Even the doors for the closets and fridge are taken off. There's no more kleenex or small towels in thenrooms we had vegetables and fruits in cans for the buffet. It's sad to see that cause the hotel is wonderful and the beaches are beautiful. So I invited everybody to send their remarks on the hotel because a lot of people have made comments on the week but it stops there!

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Peaceful vacation

It's a small, quiet place. A LOT of mosquito during our stay (May 2017). The lack of management is very evident. The restaurant is very small and the food is not bad but not variety. Good service in the eating area. Clean but old room/furniture. Camerera do their best. Bad experience with Cubana Airlines. We lost one day from vacation waiting in airport...

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Had a nice time

We booked an upstairs bungalow facing the ocean. If you stay on the main level, the ocean view is not ocean view because there is a berm blocking the view of the water. The room was very simple but clean and did not have a musty smell, much to my relief. The washrooms could use updating, but also clean. The grounds are clean. The beach is a narrow strip a 10 minute walk from the resort. There is no beach right at the resort. For 2 CUC each, you can get beach chairs and an umbrella plus beer service for 2 CUC each. The starfish and the color of the sand and water were beautiful. The pool is a simple round shape and could use some repair, but good for cooling off. The food, as others have mentioned, is not great, although we were able to find a few things that were a bit better by the end of the week. There was no water for short periods and on our last day there was none for our shower. I was grateful that we had water for most of the week! Most of the staff were friendly and helpful but seemed tired. If you want a cheaper vacation in the sun with access to a beautiful beach that is not built up and busy, and aren't expecting too much, this may be the resort you're looking for. We met many people who have returned more than once for this reason. The resort is shutting down for 6 months for renovations, so may mean some good improvements in the future.

Villa Natura: Villa Iguana: What a Wonderful Surprise!

This is an adults only, refurbished and expanding resort that was destroyed by a hurricane in 2002. It is located on the remote island of Cayo Largo del Sur, just 256 kilometers north of Grand Cayman Island. Everything is new from the furniture to the high end espresso machines. The new wooden cabins also face the stunning Caribbean and a long stretch of white powdery sand beach. The food, the location, the service and ambiance were all excellent and exceeded our expectations. The food at the beach-facing Ranchon restaurant was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed lobster, fish, calamari, roast turkey, chicken, pork and a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and desserts. All the dishes were fresh and beautifully presented. The white and red wines served are from Spain and very palatable. Once the staff discovered it was our Anniversary, they went above and beyond to make the occasion memorable with table decorations and champagne. The ambiance in the Ranchon was stunning at both lunch and in the evening. Most rooms are ocean facing and have a wide balcony or terrace to enjoy the tropical sunsets. We fell asleep each night to the sound of waves and woke up to tropical singing birds. This resort just opened in November 2016 and is already winning the hearts of visitors just like us. Many fellow guests said it felt like a home away from home. We have stayed at 3 other resorts on Cayo Largo and Villa Iguana is the best by far!

Memories Cayo Largo: Interesting Holiday

Beautiful resort, clean, kind staff. Best food we've had in Cuba. Cubana flight worst. Just don't! 14 hour delay, scary plane. No communication. Rude guests at resort. Budding, spitting, cursing, we were 2 of 15(ish) English speaking guests at the hotel. Never encountered guests as rude as this. Barking orders, snapping fingers. Hard to relax under such circumstances. Felt awful for the staff and ourselves. Ocean was red flag to the point you would get hurt if you went in. Strong strong currents [... read more]. Respect the sea! So many good things at this resort over shadowed by rude guests and as beach goers I wouldn't return. This is common to the area so be forewarned. No such thing as a bad holiday, we make the best of any situation. Unfortunate as I feel it could have been the best week if certain situations didn't occur. Being cussed out by people for asking them to get in line is not my idea of a holiday.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: OK resort

The hotel room was fine, clean and the beds were comfortable. We were grateful the air conditioning and water worked fine, however our neighbours had no water one day and had to shower in the adjacent building. We had only one night when the toilets did not flush and the water ran out. The grounds were a bit boring, I am used to seeing lots of flowers and flowering shrubs after being to Cayo Santa Maria...the beach was non-existent in front of the hotel we needed to walk 10 minutes to the only [... read more] one with sand and large waves, We could not swim but spent time nevertheless by the ocean walking. I highly recommend taking the bus to the marina and then taking the free boat ride to Playa Serena--that beach was awesome. The food was worse than in other locations in Cuba.I will definitely not go back.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Our 13th lucky vacation

We stayed from April 8 to 22 2017. We had a great time. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable. The food does not have a great variety but that could be because of the late timing of the visit. You can always find something good to eat. We had turkey, pork and lamb. The food is not always hot. This resort will be closing for 7 months so that it can be refurbished and modernized. It should be open again in December.

RETURNING to the pelicano hotel after 23 years (march 94) was quite a surprise.... The service given by any of the staffers was excellent... very courteous especially at the restaurant also in any of the hotel sections) The food was surprisingly good with many choices (Compared to other hotels i have been in ciuba) , Very clean rooms Out of about 30 beaches i have spent time on This was the most wonderfull beach i have been so far...

Memories Cayo Largo: Adequate

The plane was good but it was old and dirty. We did however get a small meal. Staff was good. Hotel was good. Food was adequate. Rooms were good. Went to an ala carte and was very good. The areas on and around the resort were very nice and clean. Beach was nice but could not go into the ocean as it was very very wavy (we were told it is always like this). Rented a quad to go to other 2 beaches (Parieso and Serenis) that were just beautiful and went into the ocean there. We had to call [... read more] front desk everyday to tell them that we had no water to wash/shower. They always told us that they were working on it. Overall we had a good, relaxing vacation and the view from our room was fantastic (3024).

Memories Cayo Largo: Spring Break

It was the first time for myself and my daughter (11) to Cuba. Our vacation was awesome, we are planning on going back. The people at Sol were so great, they took such great care of making my daughter. They all new her her after day 2. As long as my daughter is happy I am happy. We can't wait to go back next year, if all goes well

I stayed at the Hotel Pelicano last week and I didn't want to leave! The hotel is not the fanciest and the food is not the greatest but the beach is spectacular and the staff are wonderful. Everyone was very welcoming and attentive to my needs, which was what I was hoping for since I was travelling alone. There is an awesome 7-piece band that plays every day at the beach restaurant- the flute player in particular is talented beyond words. The activities people were great fun, I played pool volleyball and danced with them every day. Wilfredo Jr. at the front desk was very kind, making sure that all my needs were met. I will definitely return to this little piece of paradise!

Starfish Cayo Largo: Great time at this resort!

This was our fourth time to Cayo Largo, first time in Pelicano. Comparing to the other resorts, I would say best and happiest staff, very relaxed atmosphere, good food and lots of options, the best beach, clean grounds, nice pool (no pool bar).

Villa Natura: Villa Iguana

New hotel, several bungalows still under construction. Still having some issues with the water supply, a free late checkout was provided for the disruption. Staff were very friendly and attentive to all our needs. Hotel was barely at 50% occupied, no lineups during our stay. Beach was fabulous. We will return.

Starfish Cayo Largo: Hotel Pelicano - Value for the money. Excellent beach .

We stayed at the resort in April 2017. Great value for the Money. I would recommend the resort. Friendly staff, good food, I will definitely return. Please note: that Cayo Largo seems to be "the" destination for nudists. It didn't bother me that there were many nude people on the beach, however I heard from several fellow guests with children that had they known about the nudists they would have chosen a different location for their family vacation...

Starfish Cayo Largo: Great value for the money

A 3.5 star hotel with 5 star personnel. All the employees work with a smile and are happy to serve you. The buffet was fantastic, especially the pasta bar at diner time and the pancakes in the morning. The lobby bar has great cappuccinos and Spanish coffees. We were there in late March so the grounds were dry and everything was clean. Our room was in good shape, everything worked. The beach was in good shape too. A bit windy so the waves were quite large with a couple of days of red flags [... read more]. The walk to Serena Beach was only a couple of hours and worth the walk. Just walk a bit farther and find star fish and conch shells. Great beach, I would estimate one of the nicest I have seen.

Beach narrow and only two access points, but flour soft sand, ocean was un swimmable as it was to rough and pool had an algae problem that lasted all week. Food is bad even for Cuban standards (we have been to Cuba 12 times so we know of what we speak) if you enjoy hot dogs prepared in 3 different shapes to fill up room on the buffet then you will love it! thank goodness for deep fried frozen fries. Staff were not friendly and welcoming but not rude either. Customer service was definitely lacking. Hotel room was very clean and grounds neat and tidy except for the public washrooms that sometimes left a lot to be desired. I would not go back to this resort and know of many resorts that cost less and would give me a better experience. BTW Do NOT fly Cabana Air even if it is cheaper. We had 5 hour delay in Toronto (pilot problems) and 13 hour delay returning home (mechanical problems). We were thankful to land safely back home.

Memories Cayo Largo: Great resort and beach, but avoid travel with Cubana airlines

Decent rooms and service, meals quite reasonable, very attractive layout. Initially booked into a room at noisy end of resort, which may be fine for some who like loud music, drums, bass late at night; we didn't, and were able to switch rooms and move to the quiet end of the resort. Sun, beach, water and quiet rest were the main attraction for us, which we managed to get a lot of in our two weeks. Less tolerable, however, were the periods of no water availability in the rooms, sometimes for exte [... read more]nded periods. with no warnings. Our main complaint would be that the tripcentral agent had not warned us about the shoddy and unacceptable airline, Cubana. Delay out of Toronto was 4 hrs 37 min, not getting us into our room until almost 3 am.Then two weeks later, on the return, a late departure again from TO, so our departure from Cayo Largo was delayed 5 hrs, not arriving in TO until 5 am!!!!!.No apologies, no explanations, obviously no compensation, absolutely terrible service on the plane, as if passengers were cattle. Totally bush league, and inexcusable. Had we read about Cubana's reputation, we would have selected otherwise. But I hold tripcentral in part responsible, for not warning us about this poor excuse of an airline.

I traveled march 18-25th, 2017, with my husband to this resort. We are aged 30 and 33. We aren't party animals and often hit the hay around 9pm. What to expect: - no beach, rocky clif & a beautiful board walk to look over the rocks at the ocean. - there is a beach, you Walk a short distance (15-25 minutes) down the pathway and then down another boardwalk to reach a lovely beach! Although, Cubans charge you to use the chairs, unless it's in front of a different resort and then you can "act [... read more] like you belong" to use their chairs. - buffet is not "bad" but it is simple Cuban food. Plain rice, vegetables (over boiled often) and a meat, turkey, chicken or fish usually. - the pool is not the best. Very mediocre, not necessarily kept the cleanest and it is salt water. - the workers are friendly, but not overly friendly - taxi rides are all 2cuc per person. - playa serena is fantastic! Be prepared that you get charged 2cuc per person for chairs here - we saw zero gross bugs! - if you're not picky and you're okay with a walk to a beach then you'll enjoy this place. - rooms were average, tv was primarily Spanish.
