Club Acuario: Worst resort ever!

Where can I begin? I've been to Cuba three times. I've stayed at 3 stars all times. I don't expect a lot for Cuba and you can read my other reviews to see I'm pretty easy to get along with. I will start with the good stuff: Havana, particularly old Havana is absolutely beautiful. The hotel does provide a free shuttle everyday if you want to travel out and about and you jump on a hop on/hop off double decker, which if not free because of the resort would be $5 per day unlimited and would be wor [... read more]th every penny. We had beer in an outdoor café in the middle of old Havana, was worth the $2. Sights were amazing and free to see. We didn't go to any paying attractions. We went to an Italian restaurant right at central old Havana, priced right and the beer was cold and the food was good. We had lunch another day at a café not far from the market, shrimp and rice for $6.95 and beer was $1.50, again awesome. ok that was it for the good 8( PLANE RIDE: was Cubana through hola sun - omg don't do it 2 hrs 18mins delayed on the way there getting in at 230am and 1hr late leaving, we had a stop in camaguey making us even later than the 50 minutes we were to be there. No entertainment I requested a gluten free meal because of wheat allergy and I got a wheatful bun, crossaint and brownies and on the way back I got a wheatful bun, 3/4 sandwich and cookies. wheat, wheat and more wheat. dirty, dirty trays, garbage in pockets and the bathrooms were horrid but they had toilet paper ROOMS: We paid extra for junior suite - there is no such thing. just checked listing, they have no junior suites listed right now but it still is listed under the accommodation section I had special need physically and asked for a room on main floor, got there they don't have rooms on main floor. And to boot they put me on the 4th floor and the elevator broke 3 days in and was never fixed. main building, room 3487, 4th floor - my room was good, had hot water, clean, patio door locked, dead bolt on door, no bugs. water shut off for two hours only. only thing was they shut off the air all day long so when you went in to get ready for dinner it was 31 degrees. tipped maid $10 first day so always had toilet paper but others were not as lucky 4th floor - one family member had $50 pesos stolen and smelt musty in their room, no refill of toilet paper all week 35 block - one family member had no hot water the whole week and no water for 2 or 3 days and had to shower at another familys room 35 block - one family member had no water several days but when it was on it was hot. had to get pails of water from neighbour room to flush toilet RESTAURANT: Was on second floor - more stairs Floor was less than desirable but filling enough There was little fruit and what was there was picked over pretty quick Same with desserts, after day 5 I was getting desserts and fruits first Service was non existing. They set tables for first setting and never seen anyone for drinks. If you came 10 minutes late you were searching for clean plates, glasses and utensils. ice cream was good but had to eat it out of your water glass water is "filtered" or so they say but my belly told me otherwise lots of locals, which I wouldn't care about but there were bus loads that would eat at 630 and leave of buses to go to work for 7 and military would eat at 7 and leave at 730 and we had to set an alarm to eat by 8 and even than there would be no food left in 70% of the trays or plates. Thank goodness for eggs or we wouldn't have eat breakfast lunch was fine because barely anyone in the resort because everyone was gone into Havana for the day dinner was some thing get there by 7 or go without lunch and dinner was served up to an hour late some days SNACK BAR - 24 hrs - jokes it only opened between the hours the restaurant was closed so 10-1 4-7 and nothing at night. we came in at 230am with nothing but a sandwich from 340pm and missed breakfast because there was nothing left at 830am and no one there in the snack bar only served ham and cheese and cardboard pizza and twice out of 7 days hamburgers for like 1 hr SEAFOOD A LA CARTE was worth booking. would have had it every day if it wasn't the exact same meal every day. the chef was awesome, food great and the waitress (same girl every night) knows her stuff. she makes beautiful drinks and serves like she is working in a 5 star. we tipped her good, she was worth it. BAR: no blender drinks and barely ever no ice most didn't know how to make a cubata (rum and cola) no speciality drinks, one girl did take out mint for mojitos and that lastest two hrs or so "filtered" water not so filtered again there said my belly coffee, it was sad, so sad, looked forward to having my cappuccino that I had at every other resort, they had the machine but had no clue. they used powdered milk mixed with "filtered" water - yuck, yuck, yuck and was served out of plastic cold drink cups Had to stick to the beer, its the only thing that didn't make my belly ache POOL: Had sand all over the bottom of the pool with no beach in sight for at least an hours drive, not sure where the sand came from. Didn't filter for 3 days while we were there. it was getting pretty gross after day 2 No hand rails to get into the pool so that was a little scary being physically challenged but only took one wipeout It was huge but only one pool not two divided into 4 TOILETS: no toilet paper 90% of the time, carry some or you may regret it especially after you drank their "filtered" water and no toilet seats but in the rooms But Havana was worth the see just chose a different resort Helpful? 1

Hotel Atlantico: Good location

Good location for those who want to see Havana and stay at the resort at the same time. Do not expect big variety of food. Sometimes water problems. Hotel is located beachfront. Beautiful beach. Free Havana shuttle twice a day.

Club Acuario: Would pass!

Do not pay extra for junior suites---they DO NOT have any!!! Resort was nice looking with nice views, BUT... Had NO water in 2/5 rooms booked (1-4 days, 1-2 days), NO hot water in room (1- after day one). Hola Sun Rep was no where in site, could not set up walking tour or Caribbean show. Get to breakfast early (7am) to get food, they do not refill containers after first serving. Clean plates and cutlery are "found" in the kitchen! MUST TRY a la carte! Awesome service and food! Beach very far, had free bus ticket daily to Old Havana! Pool is beautiful! Would not recommend! One star rating!

Las Terrazas Aparthotel: Ok for the price

The good: I had a spacious and clean two bedroom apartment with a view of the ocean. Housekeeping was very good. Bring your own tinned and dry goods for the kitchen as well as some dollar-store plates, cutlery, cups, etc. The bad: the included breakfast - I had eggs and sausage - was stone cold. I didn't return. Front of house service is a bit frosty. The pool was a long walk from my building, but the ocean was just across the street.

Hotel Atlantico: Close to Havana makes this worth the stay

Very close to Havana which was appealing. Resort needs some love, but has a fantastic beach, decent food, helpful staff. The rooms left a little to be desired but a beautiful view of the beach. It's exactly what we anticipated when we purchased the vacation, great value for money.

Be Live Havana City Copacabana: Very comfortable resort

I have stayed in several different hotels in Cuba at this price range. I found this hotel to be clean, with very nice staff. Far enough and yet close enough to Old Havana! A very enjoyable stay. Room and bathroom were very clean. I was pleasantly surprised.

Las Terrazas Aparthotel: I was setup by Hola Tour Agency

The hotel was advertised as being in Havana. I checked the address first before booking. When I got to Cuba it was not in Havana, but 15 km away. There are 2 hotels of the same name, one in Havana and the other East of the city. Both owned by the government of Cuba. So to start - false advertising. My plane ticket took me to Havana and I did not get off at the Varadero Airport (which is meant for tourists). I was the only one on the plane, except for 20 Spanish people heading back to Spain. When [... read more] I arrived my Hola Rep was not there to greet me. My baggage was stolen at the Havana Airport. There was not even a sign stating where to pick up my luggage at one of the 2 conveyor belts to pick up luggage. It would have helped if the Hola Rep was there, to help translate at the 'Lost and Found'. But they were in on it too. Cost me $50 CUC to get to my hotel. The guy sitting in front of me in the airplane got off at Varadero and was staying at the hotel across the street from mine. I was setup by Hola to have my baggage stolen. As for asking for assistance in obtaining my luggage, I was given none!!!! Now I am back in Canada and am being 'jerked' around by Cubana. I have left messages and nobody returns the calls. The 'Lost and Found' at Havana and Veradero was like 'night and day'! In Havana many people were yelling for there lost luggage and the people would pick there items from garbage bags (usually only clothes), which meant the thieves were walking out of the Havana airport with the luggage and the items they have stolen and leaving the clothes on the floor to be put in garbage bags and taken to Lost and Found. In Veradero, I was allowed to go into the Lost and Found and see if my bag was there (there was only one bag and a few coats and other items). This was not the case at Havana. It was obvious that my bag went to Havana as Cubana is not stating where the bag went. There is a 'bar code' on your baggage ticket and is scanned as to where is goes. As for the hotel I stayed at - the shower was useless and there was not enough water to come out of it to brush your teeth. I suspected that on my last day I would have issues. Just like at the Havana Airport. At the Lost and Found people were saying that there plane leaves in 1/2hr. The decision would be to leave and go home (without your luggage). This I thought would be the case at the hotel, to have missing items in your room just as you are leaving to go home. And sure enough that happened. Fortunately, I had prepared for that and only had to deal with missing clothing items (that I bought because of the stolen bags). My laptop and other precious items were in my backpack and I carried them on me for my last day. Stay away from Hola and Cubana Airlines as they work together. Do not land in Havana as this will be a setup to steal your luggage. Take Air Canada, WestJet or Sunwing Tours. They land in Veradero.

Saint John's Vedado: Good Location

This hotel is near Hotel National ( my first choice but is fully booked ) and that is why I picked it as it is close to all the vicinity I am familiar with and the rooftop club, Pico Blanco is handy as I can always pop upstairs for a show ( free) when it is raining outside. It was raining 4 out of 7 days on my trip ! The hotel is under renovation but it's clean. Staff is very welcome and friendly. With all hotels are fully booked in Havana til March 2016, I am glad I have selected this hotel as  [... read more]I can walk to Hotel National and use the amenities and calle 23 is right there everything is within reach. The pool is closed but I am able to use the next door, Hotel Vedado's pool.

Hotel Atlantico: A fixer upper

I imagine at one time this was a good place to stay. The workers tried to be helpful. It would have helped if my husband and I spoke their language. We moved to 3 different rooms and finally had hot and cold water the last 3 days ( no shower the first 5 days) The tablecloths in the dining room were dirty and flies were landing on the buffet food and the silverware etc. The shuttle to Havana was fine and on schedule. Overall the Club Atlantico was not a 3 or 3.5

Marazul Hotel: Worst pllace to go

If paying more than $400, not worth going, better to fly and stay at a casa. Management does not want to listen to your complaints. Lift is out of order, good luck finding a place on the second floor. Food was below average, even if you feed the stray dogs and cats, they too don't want to eat the food.

Hotel Paseo Habana: Good, quiet, safe location. Will return.

Friendly hotel staff. A/C noisy. Had to change room, but this did not help. Still could not sleep with the A/C/ on. Needs replacement. Restaurant food not the best, least to say, although staff quite helpful. I guess you get what you pay for.

Islazul Colina Hotel: Good value for your money

The hotel is well located ,close to everything. A taxi to Old Havana costs 5 CUC. The rooms in the higher floors have low water pressure. Be careful when changing money in the front desk. Count the notes one by one for them to see. I gave them $100 CAD and they told me it was $80. This happened to me also at Hotel Kohly Bosque when I visited 2 years ago. I think it's a general practice in all the hotels. Always go for the rooms at the back of the hotel. There is more breeze and less noise. The h [... read more]otel staff generally friendly. A cleaner in the hotel showed me places where I can buy stuff cheap. Food at the hotel bar is cheaper than nearby restaurants. What I was missing was WIFI services. They have internet but you need to buy the card elsewhere.

Hotel Atlantico: bad resort! amazing beach

bad installations but amazing beach and staff, poor food, overall if you are just into beach go ahead if not forget this resort. even though is close to havana u might just go somewhere else is up to taste.

Hotel Atlantico: great place

It is a great place the beach is near the hotel which is very good the swimming pool is beautiful the rooms are clean but the bath tub and the sink need improvement , the stuff are supper nice and friendly . over all me and my family had a great time it is worth it

Be Live Havana City Copacabana: Good place

The staff was friendly and helpful, grounds, swimming pool, restaurants were well maintained. The room could have been dusted well, and the bathroom designed better. Water backed up in the shower. The towels, though changed, were not well washed. I would recommend this hotel to some friends, not all my friends.

NH Capri: Great place to stay!

Capri Hotel is well located for night life close to Malecon, National Hotel, Habana Libre and other restaurants. The roof top swimming pool is small but very nice with live show at evening and a beautiful view of Habana coast (Malecon). The staff is also friendly and very helpful with 24 hrs bar service. If I had a chance I will certainly return to this hotel.

Club Acuario: My Time In Havana

I paid for a junior suite that had a king size bed and there was a living room connected to my unit. The living room had four nice chairs, a coffee table, another modern TV and another washroom. My room was nice but other guest were unsatisfied with their rooms, but for good reasons. I actually gave up my room for two days to an American family from Washington. Their washroom had a leak, the room smelled and in the hallway the lights were out. Besides this the food was better then other resorts  [... read more]I have stayed at. There is a nightclub at the end of the street called Coba which was always filled with Cuba girls. The resort has some differences, but its all inclusive and close to the old city. I had an amazing time and if I didn't want to see other parts of Cuba you will find me at club acuario.

Hotel Atlantico: Good resort

The rooms were fine, nice balcony, food not so great as in other resorts in Cuba,plenty of drinks. Beach was excellent, lots of shade.Entertainment was great with daily shows. The free shuttle bus to Havana was excellent.

Marazul Hotel: Not amazing resort

Very small rooms, food not good at all. Staff is friendly. Beach is not that close to the hotel. Entertainment area is very hot and humid. Close to Havana, free shuttle. Beach is good. Still would not recommend to my friends.

Ambos Mundos Hotel: Old Havana Ambos Mundos - Both Worlds

Nice hotel in the heart of Old Havana. Almost 100 years old, with live piano music in the lobby every day, the hotel itself is a tourist attraction. Hemingway's room at level 5 can be visited for 2CUC. The roof top restaurant was the best place to have breakfast. The room was small, old fashioned with a modern twist, but the bathroom was a bit worn out. With the renovation going on in June 2015 for levels 2,3 and 4, probably the next year will be a good time to stay in this hotel, although, I gu [... read more]ess, on these floors the original character of the hotel was not preserved entirely. Exchange office and ATMs (closed 2AM-5AM) are very close to the hotel on Obispo street. There is a pastry shop next to the hotel where they sell pastries, soft drinks and bottled water and alcoholic drinks upstairs. Obispo street was under renovation as well, like many places in Old Havana. Many restaurants on Obispo street have live music, there is salsa dance every night at Florida hotel (5CUC, one mojito included). Hop-on Hop off bus(T1) and the bus(T3) for the Santa Maria beach - which is not great - can be taken from Parque Central every 30 minutes - 15 minutes walk from the hotel on Obispo street. Also, shared taxi can be taken from the same place (the fare is 1CUC/person) to Vedado where Hotel Nacional and Habana Libre can be visited - they both have history. La Roca is a nice and inexpensive restaurant in Vedado. In Old Havana El Chanchullero - at 459 Brasil in Cristo Square - is a small restaurant (it doesn't have a sign) with very good and inexpensive food - fish was excellent. Good coffee can be bought from Café el Escorial in Plaza Vieja at 13 CUC/kg. To enrich your experience you can volunteer to carry medical supplies to Cuba. If you are in Toronto you can go to http://www.njttoronto.com. There is a medical clinic - Tomas Romay - at 5 minutes walk from the hotel and it is open until 7pm. If you choose to donate school supplies there are a few primary schools on Obispo street.
