Brisas Los Galeones: Great small resort

the resort only has 30 rooms, you get to know everyone and its just like being away with close friends. Food was 4 out of 5. Staff 5 out of 5. Great view of the surrounding area, located on top on a hill so no easy access to local beach but the pool is great and you have access to the sister resort just 15 min down the road.

Carisol los Corales: A Piece of Paradise

We have just returned from a resort where every day is just another day in paradise. Now don't be fooled, this resort is not our idea of a three star. As everyone knows, no one goes to Cuba for the food. However, the pizza and spaghetti at lunch was amazing. The lady who creates this delicious food works tirelessly never lossing her humour. This beach fit the bill perfectly. If you enjoy going into the water with a sandy bottom, this is not the beach for you. You will find a very small area with sand, while the rest is filled with grasses and rocks. One aspect of this resort we particularly enjoyed was all the animals sharing the space with us. You will find horses donkeys and cows chewing the grasses outside your room at times. And dogs that have the sweetest disposition joining you for a drink. Lol Please do not forget the local people in the area. This is one of the poorest regions in Cuba. Bring toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and shoes if possible. These are some the the basics they do not have, and we certainly take for granted. This resort offers it all. A peaceful vacation, if desired. Or a bike ride in the country side, excursions , and a disco at night. It's your choice. Our choice would be to definitely return!

Brisas Los Galeones: A gem

Very friendly place. Rooms were clean and airy. Food was plentiful and the chefs accomdated special dietary needs. There wasn't much fruit and we noted there was very little fruit available in the town market.

Carisol los Corales: A good value, in a real Cuban setting.

We have been to Corales/Carousel four times now, usually for a three week stay. An endless sandy beach or 'American' style food is of little interest to us. But the location is good for us with nearby fishing and farming villages, providing a real slice of real Cuba, away from the Varadero type complexes. The weather is always reliably hot. No, not everything is 'perfect', but it's a great, relaxing and economical resort!

Carisol los Corales: Good value

The beach and pools were great, staff awesome and the weather was perfect. I found that room 114 at Carousel was quiet and the amenities satisfactory. On the downside the food was reportedly down in quality and selection from years previous. Liver was cooked up at the grill station twice along with chicken or pork, not my thing. Ice cream was available on two days. I suggest a quicker way of getting toast or through the grill area as there were certain groups that were quite rude tourists. I fel [... read more]t sorry for the staff having to deal with them, but the staff were professional. All in all, it is what it is, an inexpensive holiday in a beautiful country.

Costa Morena: Value Vacation...

Good value resort destination, very affordable for this destination. A no frills reset type with a relaxing atmosphere. Plenty of healthy food providing you are there close to the buffet's opening hours. Lobby bar is open 24 hours but drinks are only domestic. Service is alright and tipping is appreciated.

Costa Morena: It is amazing and yet so bad

I have been going for 8 years in a row; pros: climate, sea, people, location. cons: lack of fruits in restaurant (no bananas, papaya just for a day) then every day the same: low quality pineapple and grapefruit. Lack of fresh juices: everything made from concentrate and full of sugar (watch out if you are diabetic). The only saving grace: coffee, tea and fresh liquid yogourt. At the Santiago airport we were met with a mass of travelers trying to get to the immigration wicket. There were no lines just people milling around trying to get ahead of the others. After making it to the immigration wicket we exited through a door that lead to the security search area. Two stations were open and again no lineups just a mass of people trying to inch their way forward. Eventually we made it past security where each bag was scanned by an x-ray machine. I had to obtain a customs  [... read more]declaration form since they had none on board the plane. Trying to fill it out the form was a challenge with all the pushing and shoving going on. Airport rating: 1 star. Exiting the terminal building there was no sign of the BSR tour rep. We wondered from bus to bus only to be redirected. Eventually we found our bus and obtained our tour info package. At the BSR, a Bell Boy grabbed our luggage and motioned for us to follow. We were assigned a room on the 6th floor. We had to climb about 60 steps from the lobby which was a challenge for my wife. There was water in the hallway and on the stairs. We went back to the lobby to request a room with fewer stairs to climb. We were told the only room available was on the 5th floor, one floor lower. We checked out this room and it was worse than what we had so we decided to stay for the night. The next day, we went back to the front desk and asked again to be moved. This time it was a different person and she offered us a room on the 3rd floor. We moved to the 3rd floor since it was fewer stairs to climb. The rooms are old and tired. For the most part we had hot water. The food in the buffet restaurant was poor. The quality was poor; the selection was poor and repetitive. It seemed whatever was not used up for one meal was recycled back for the next meal. I have been to Cuba ten times so I know what to expect. Pork and chicken every day. Same dried stuff day in and day out. There was a pasta section and a meat section, hardly any hot vegetables. I would have expected more fish dishes, but it wasn't so. I ate mostly bread and cheese.Fresh fruit was limited, oranges, grapefruit and pineapple. The waiters in general were okay. The Cuban al a carte restaurant had good reviews from people that tried it. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. From the beach to the 7th floor are almost 200 steps. That is a lot of stairs especially for older people. Most of the clientele are older people. The elevators are always out of order. Only one elevator works occasionally. Maybe every other day. The entertainment was acceptable. The two tennis courts are good by Cuban standards. We brought our own racquets and tennis balls. The beach is small for the size of the resort. There are eight beach umbrellas, hardly enough. There are some trees that provide shade. The lounge chairs are old. The nearest washrooms are a five minute walk. The scenery from the pool area was excellent with a view over the bay and mountains. This was the best part of BSR.

Weather was beautiful pool area nice as far as the rest i would not recommend it. Food was horrible met people who have travelled to this location before and they brought there own can food. They returned to this resort only because of the weather.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Smokers retreat

This resort is in a lovely location wonderful staff however the fact that the management refrain from inforcing smoking laws that are meant to protect their staff and non smoking guests is disturbing to say the least perhaps a smoking area to accommodate people who wish to kill themselves would be in order. Fellow Canadiens and European guest are well aware of the hassards of secondhand smoke.Your own leader was against smoking. Because of managements inability to protect its guest in the lobby  [... read more]area in this resort young children are exposed to the death wish of the few. In today's world this is insane!!! Look around the resort and you see many cigarette butts I guess smokers like to leave souvenirsHow could I recommend this resort to all my non-smoking friends?

Brisas Sierra Mar: Excellent resort

Liked the rural position of this site, food was good, service was good. It is very relaxing as thers are few cars and only the hotel motorised boat. The swamp beside the hotel grounds however makes you a pray for bugs to bite... All in all it was an excellent vacation.

Hotel Versalles: Good location, poor resort

Beautiful view of Santiago at night! The pool was out of service for repair. No information about this was given prior, too bad. Rooms are good, water in room is slow, not hot. Food is cuban average, service was OK.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Good resort. Extremely friendly

Hotel is not fancy but has everything you need. Food is good and water is good. Very easy to kick back and enjoy yourself. pool is in reasonable condition and the beach is kept clean. Rooms definitely need to be updated but are clean and well kept

Brisas Sierra Mar: Fun Week in Cuba

This was the best time we have had in Cuba - lots of great entertainment, excellent beach area and better food than expected. The hotel suffers from the usual infrastructure problems in Cuba - the elevator only worked for half the week, a lot of the hallway lights were out and the pool liner needs replacing - but everything was sparkling clean and the staff were great.

THE PERSONNEL AND THEIR SERVICE IS TOPS. MUSIC GROUPS ARE VERY GOOD, BUT NOT ENOUGH OF THEM. THE SCENERY IS SPECTACULAR AND THIS IS WHAT BRINGS PEOPLE BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN. STAGE ENTERTAINMENT IS OK. AT THE RESORT, ONE GETS WHAT HE/SHE PAID FOR. DO NOT EXPECT ANY LUXURY AT ALL. FOOD IS GETTING WORSE FROM YEAR TO YEAR. MANY THINGS NEED FIXING, LIKE ALMOST NO WATER TO HAVE A SHOWER. THE POOL LINER IS TOTALLY RIPPED ALL AROUND. PUBLIC WASHROOMS ARE OUT OF SERVICE FOR DAYS. RESORT BICYCLES ARE A DAN [... read more]GER TO DRIVE AND ARE FALLING APPART. TORONTO/ MONTREAL BUSSES AND FLIGHTS ALL ARRIVE AND DEPART AT THE SAME TIME. THIS LEADS TO HOUR LONG LINE UPS. THIS TIME THERE WERE THREE FLIGHTS BEING CHECKED IN, ALL AT THE SAME TIME IN A SPACE OF A BUNGALOW. FOR ALL THESE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THERE IS ONE SECURITY CHECK POINT. IT TOOK HOURS OF WAITING UNTIL ONE FINALLY GETS TO THE DEPARTURE ROOM.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Wonderful time

We would go back. Hotel shows its age; however, repeat vacationers galore - so must be good . Most rooms have ocean view even the garden view. 2 nd floor closer to beach , 4th closer to pool and restaurants.

Smallish resort, somewhat rundown. Friendly staff. Oceanview upper level bungalow had it's own sundeck! Food terrible. Small beach, need water shoes for the stones. No tequila or brandy. Still, a quaint comfortable feel. Many dogs.
