Way better than expected!

I'll start with the very minor negatives. The beds were hard, that being said, they were very accommodating in giving us a pillow top for the mattress. The food is more then adequate and plentiful but for those that don't travel, they may be expecting better. Any person that does travel will know not to expect food beyond imagination. All the staff were unbelievably polite and more then willing to do anything for you. The "butler" Francisco and Nester the pool side runner were amazing. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The lobby was relaxing and tranquil. The entire resort was by far the best maintained then anywhere I've been, specifically the landscaping. In short my husband and I would not hesitate to return as often as we could, in fact, we are already planning our return.

AMAZING

This resort is BY FAR the CLEANEST, FRIENDLYEST, SECUREST, and most BEAUTIFUL we have been to. The rooms are extremely clean and actually smell great. There is no need to bring any candles, or room fresheners or bounce for your drawers. The rooms are nice and airy. They painted in light colours that make them seem even bigger. We canno [... read more]t say enough about the cleaning staff. ALL washrooms on the premises were very, very clean. There seemed to be a cleaning lady in every washroom every time we used one. The pool was scrubbed every morning (we had a room facing the pool – Bonus). Outside walkways and around the pool were also washed, more like scrubbed, on a daily basis. The staff is great here. There is a bit of a language barrier, but you can’t expect the staff to speak every language. We are visiting their country and tourists should expect language barriers outside of their country. If staff did not understand, they would get somebody who did. Nestor, a server from the bar, would make sure that we had our favorite drinks in hand all day. He could find us anywhere and aimed to please! :0) The entertainment staff are great, Luis and Manuel are awesome and provided enough activities throughout the day. We would have preferred a bit more upbeat music in the afternoons. The grounds are beautiful and very well groomed. The security here is beyond belief. We felt very secure here. There are security guards at every section of the resort and they are very visible. We have never experienced this type of security before and it was an added bonus. The food was very good. I gained 6 pounds, and tried something new every day. We travelled with two other couples and none of us got sick, nor did we hear about anybody else on the resort getting sick. We ate until we were full at each and every meal with no complaints. Chef Victor would even take the time to come out of the kitchen to help our friend who suffers from celiac with her food choice. Knowing before we arrived that the water at the beach was murky did not bother us. This is mainly caused by a manmade island that was built by the first owner of the resort next door which interrupts the natural flow of the water. Coming from Atlantic Canada, this is what we are accustomed to. The beach itself is beautiful with lots of shade from the palm trees. This resort is small and if you are at the pool or on the beach, you are always close to a bar, a washroom, the snack bar and your room. It is the perfect place for R & R. This review cannot be complete without mentioning the hotel manager, Manuella! You will see her around the pool, in the lobby, on the grounds with her beautiful smile. She will acknowledge you every time and by the end of your stay, you feel like you have become part of her lovely family. My friend said it best: ¨This resort hit the jackpot when they acquired Manuella¨ and I agree. Thank you for a great vacation and we will definitely back.

Awesome Trip

Stayed March 20-27 The service at this resort was excellent... the manager Manuela was out greeting the guests as well everyday. Rooms are exactly as pictured, clean and everything worked great. Animation Team did a great job to make sure you are having fun .... JoseG, Manuel and Francisco will keep you smiling. Ramon, Catarin, and Yahaira will look after you like no other. We ate at 3 a la cart's and they were great... the Grill, Japanese, and Italian....the rest of the time was at the buffets. The beach is great, the water is murky, however lots of people swimming in it. We really enjoyed the resort and our time there, we would recommend this resort to anyone.

A beautiful resort !

We just returned from our 7 day stay at Bouganville. The hotel and the rooms are shining and spotless, the staff is exceptionally friendly and a pleasure to talk to, we had absolutely no problems. We will go back and we would definitely recommend this resort to others. The beach has many cabanas and chairs, and lots of palm trees. Although you cannot walk for a long distance along the beach, it is very pretty, and the pool area is very nice as well. There are activities to participate in all day [... read more] long and the theatre at night at La Romana was great, very talented performers. If you are looking for exceptional service and cleanliness then Bouganville is what we would recommend.

Amazing holiday

This resort is amazing in every way. Hotel is very clean, grounds amazing and well kept, the pool is beautiful, the food is delicious, the entire staff was beyond friendly, room very cozy and well cleaned everyday. Service is out of this world and would go back for sure.

Relaxing , clean , fun , resort

we stayed in room 50102, corner suite, ocean view. very nice room. Any problems we had in our room was attended to right away. We did not have illness or did we hear of anyone else being ill. The food is not a 5 star rating, but we did not starve. The staff kept us well entertained and were very friendly. We had a very relaxing vacation

Beautiful resort and a nice stay but only 4 stars

My wife and I stayed at this resort from Feb. 22 to Mar. 1, 2015. We had a really late check in (12h30 am) since our plane was late coming in from Toronto. The check in went really smoothly and we had our room in short order. We did request a room change however since our room didn't have a real shower, just a hand-held in the Jacuzzi tub. We got transferred to another room on the 3rd floor (#51218) without any hassle at all. Rooms are spacious and clean. Maids are friendly...as are most of th [... read more]e staff. The grounds are just beautiful and kudos go out to the staff for such great work!! We spent a lot of time at the beach however did not go swimming because the water was not appealing (brownish) and there are jellyfish...both of which we knew ahead of time. There are plenty of palapas at the beach and we never had any problems getting loungers there...in the afternoon, we would migrate to the pool area..a bit harder to find a spot in the shade for me.. Premium drinks were available, just not all the time...for example, I drink Crown Royal and it was available only 3 separate days. Not a big selection of drinks available at the pool bars. The food at the buffet was good but a lot of the previous comments are accurate....because of these comments,we were careful to take food that had recently been taken out, nothing with creamy sauces, or stuff that looked lukewarm...neither my wife or I got sick per say, just a bout of upset stomach for about a day or so..could be the booze or the food (or both)..they give hand sanitizer to everyone entering the restaurants/buffets which is a good thing..as long as it's consistent... We ate at three à la carte restaurants, the French (Le Gourmet) was by far the best of the three (others were Il Capricio and Garden Grill Steakhouse). We even had some momahuana with our server at Le Gourmet..food was great there, give it a try! We had a good time here and relaxed, which is what we needed...yes the lounge closes at 11pm so if you want nightlife, this is not the place for you...you can go next door to the other side of the resort.

Great Place for a Vacation

Stayed at the BP - Adult only side for 10 days in February. Rooms are very spacious and bright. There is a very good selection of food in the buffet. (Try the southern fried chicken - very yummy). We used room service a couple of times and could not get over how fast it was (joked with the server - 20 minutes or it was free? :) Was very nice to be able to get a chicken sandwich, clubhouse or a hamburger delivered. The beach is beautiful, but yes, the water is murky looking. We swam in the ocean [... read more] almost everyday and did not experience any jelly fish. Staff - the staff are very professional and friendly - cannot do enough for their visitors. We traveled with 2 other couples - would definitely recommend this hotel. We will be visiting again next year.

Average Resort

The grounds, buildings and rooms were very nice. The hotel lacks in service including the front desk, no bar service around the pool or the beach. The fact that dinners have to be booked on line is not very convenient, in fact, most people required assistance at the front desk in order to use the app. You are only allowed 1 beach towel and required a card to get one. Good resort if you are looking for a resort that is a little less expensive.

Our experience in la romana

The resort was beautiful,the grounds were amazing and the rooms were very clean. The staf. Was as helpful as they could be and the food and beverages were plentiful. The sun was hot and the beach was welcoming with plenty of shade and loungers.all in all our 7 days flew by. Thanks

Do not stay here

The only plus to this resort is the grounds keeping. The food is horrible, always cold, no selection, no themes. Same left over stuff every single day. We had to get our own drinks 90% of the time. There are no napkins on the tables, they bring them over, but of course not all the time. The beach was better on the sister side. Lots of chairs at the beach and pool so that was good. I would never come back here or recommend this place to anyone.

Maybe a 2 star! not worth the money

Beautiful grounds. Clean hotel. Horrible food - always cold and lousy variety. Horrible service. Basically had to go find our own drinks dduring meals. Staff to busy socializing with eachother than helping guests. Rooms okay. Mattress hard as a rock and maid stole a GUESS shirt of mine! Got sick halfway thru the trip with some bug that was going around. Overall, I would never go back to this resort. What a waste of money.

Breathtaking Resort

The resort is gorgeous! They do an amazing job maintaining the whole resort. The staff is incredible, they go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. The food was delicious. The rooms are amazing, the only complaint I have is trying to find a place to sit by the pool. Especially if you want an umbrella. There doesn't seem to be enough going around. We noticed people would put towels on a couple of loungers to claim them and then never even show up the whole day. They should have a rule abo [... read more]ut that, if they don't show up before 12 - take their towels away. Overall we had a great time and I would definitely recommend staying here.

Beautiful Resort

The grounds of the resort were spectacular, well kept, with gardeners working every day. The room was clean, bright and comfortable, ample towels and toiletries. The buffet was very good, not my favorite way to dine because the food is not hot enough for me!

Amazing Resort

Water is murky in most of the bay due to sediment run-off from river up the coast. Tons of chairs here to pick from. Amazing sunsets though! *Part of Bouganville package is unlimited ala carte dinners. We ate at 4 of 5 .. garden(large steaks!)(very good!), Mediterranean(good), Japanese(okay), and gourmet (very good!).... Italian was the other. *Our buffet was very good!!! Huge selection for every palette. Every night was a theme ie American, Italian, Dominican ...Salads were healthy and crisp! meats, fish, poultry(hot/cold), tons of side dishes (hot/cold). Lots of fruit to choose from and desserts too. *Staff all around were excellent!!!! Friendly if not very friendly! Constant service in the restaurants and pool area. Entertainment a mix of the usual hokey island stuff during the day and evening but fun to get involved! *Executive 9 hole Par 27 golf course just outside the resort. Cost $27.00US which included round, clubs, balls, pull cart. Longest hole is #9 at 218yds. Tees, fairways and greens in pretty good shape! Book and pay at resort and they take you over or get p/u by golf course personnel. There is an 18 hole under construction not ready for another 1-2 yrs. *We did the Catalina island snorkeling excursion. Island was beautiful, snorkeling was good but rough waters on our day. NoliTour price $115.00US. We booked through the Bahia resort tour group at the pool area (bartered the price)and paid $83.00US each for 4. We will definitely go back!!!

Overall, a very pleasant 2 weeks

Well kept grounds, exceptionally well kept pool. Wide selection of foods, nicely presented in the specialty restaurants. Breakfast & lunch buffets presented a challenge, if you like your food hot, get your eggs cooked to order. Sea was as advertised, murky. Beach was clean & no shortage of loungers. Room was large & well appointed. The first week housekeeper needed a nudge now & then about towels & restocking the fridge, different housekeeper the second week, completely on the ball. Staff at all [... read more] levels were cheerful & helpful, especially the senior management. Downside for us was the isolation, we like to take a Gua gua or motoconcho into the villages & poke around. Did not seem possible. If you are looking for pure R&R this would be a very good choice.

Amazing Place

One of the most beautiful hotels we have even been to. Rooms are large and modern. Excellent food with good variety. Grounds are gorgeous and very well cared for. Employees go out of their way to keep guests entertained and cared for. Quite place and out of the way from the hustle and bustle. Beach is great however the water is not crystal clear as it is in Punta Cana. Nevertheless, an amazing, relaxing place well worth visiting.

Beautiful Cove Beach

Good: Beautiful resort, very good staff, wonderful beach and pool area, clean rooms, great location. Bad: Food was average, everything closed relatively early Ugly: Says it's only 25km from La Romana airport. That would be good if you landed in La Romana. It is at least 90 mins each way in a van from the Punta Cana airport.

Fabulous Resort

We spent a 7 day all inclusive vacation in this resort along with 2 other couples, since I have arranged for my friends to stay in this resort I was so relieved that it exceeded our expectation. The grounds are meticulously manicured, the suites are immaculately clean, the food is very tasty and there is always something one can eat even for a picky eater, the staff- are very welcoming, friendly and entertaining. You can tell that they love working at the resort. I celebrated my birthday in Boug [... read more]anville and I must say that I will treasure that day forever- they decorated our table with flowers, ballons, champagne and of course cake along with a jovial singing from the staff!! ... it was a truly memorable experience. There are many shade and lounges and cabanas along the beach and pool. The only suggestions I can make are: - to have a soft live entertainment at the lobby/bar area to at least up to 12PM, a soloist or a pianist will be perfect. - do something about the flies, gnat and mosquitoes. I have travelled all oover the carribean and I am careful to not go during the rainy season because of these bugs so I was very surprised to have experienced these bites!

BED BUGS!

We found out our room had bed bugs on the 4th night after being terribly bitten all over by them. We went to management and they said there was nothing they could or would do. It ruined our vacation and when we got back to Canada we had to have all of our clothes treated for bed bugs. Awful experience!
