Great Resort

This hotel was very clean...a little on the quiet side which was fine for me. Beautiful scenery being next to the yaght club. Staff very friendly and they didnt expect any tips which was nice that they didnt hang around expecting something. Convenient location next to shops and easy commute via bus into Varadero. Buffet food as expected, they did change it up a bit. The a la carte restaurants were good. Pool very clean. Beach was nice except not much room depth wise, very crowded not a lot o [... read more]f space between you and others, but nice and long for walking.

3 star resort

This hotel was nice and modern , beach and pools were beautiful, very friendly staff although ... food was not good at all, every bathroom smelled awful and there was little to no entertainment . I understand the country is not very wealthy but would have liked a little tastier food while spending so much money and time there .

Overal very good resort

Pros: We booked the classic marina view, however the woman in the reception gave us the European apartment! After entering the room we realized this was not what we paid for. When I returned to the reception, she said oh she didnt have any availability. This was really weird cuz she just sent us to the European apartments without telling us she is doing so. Amazing resort

First , the room service is good, staffs are polite and nice. Second, the view of room are wonderful. we are very enjoy to live there.Third, the price is very attractive, only 650 for 7 nights in 5 stars hotel. Tips: You can get all information form the pass boy in hotel, example, I book a one day trip to Havana, only 135 for 4 people through Louise, pass boy.

Good value, nice people

Appartments rooms outside the hotel are ok, quiet but some things didn't work properly there: the tv had a poor image and the porch screen door was missing, couldn't let fresh air in the room because buggs and mosquitos were waiting to fly in.

Definitely Not A 5 Star resort!

This resort needs a lot of upgrades to meet my expectations as a 5 star. I have been visiting Cuba every year for the past 16 years, so I know what to expect from the country. My husband and I have travelled all over the island, as well as Cayo Largo. We also spoke to others staying at the resort, and the consencus seemed to be the same...... Our room, while being large and well set up, needed a lot of repairs to bring it up to standard. The grounds were pretty bare, and not what we are  [... read more]used to seeing at other resorts. The buffet was the same every day. Not a lot of variety of seafood at all. Three varieties of fish, and maybe shrimp twice a week! Not at all what we have been accustomed to, on an island in the Atlantic ocean!! Night life was practically non-existent. They had a Cuban band two or three nights that played all Spanish music, which was okay, but we were expecting the stage shows in an actual theatre setting. Anyhow, we would not go back there. We made the most of our week in the sun, and spent some time at the pool as the beach was not the greatest either. Very small and lots of kelp and seaweed.

Beautiful resort , beaches but not the food ...

The hotel was beautiful, modern and clean . I didn't find there were many shows or activities to do but definitely a good place to go relax . The only thing I didn't enjoy was the food . I couldn't find anything to eat and felt sick for most of time last few days ... I understand the country is not very wealthy but it would have been nice to have some good food for tourists while they are spending a week or more there . Overall the trip was a 7 out of 10 I'd say .

Great time

The hotel is perfect for those who enjoy marina life as well as a beautiful beach, the room was big and very clean, the marina view and the sunrise every morning. The food was good and after Sunday they got more onions and made it tasty. The Latin restaurant was amazing. We really enjoy the shows at the lobby bar. Thanks

Beautiful Resort

This resort is very different than the typical all inclusive I have been to in the past. I loved the different surroundings of the marina, shops and the pathway to the beach. The rooms were lovely and the shower was the best! The beds were comfortable but the pillows were awful! They really need to change those up for normal pillows. The beach was the only place you could get shade. The pool area, though lovely, had no place that provided shade. Shade was necessary at times due to sunburns! The food was your typical Cuban cuisine. We always found something to eat but I have to say Cuba is not the place I will return to simply because of the food. The beach grill is a great idea but the pork that they served was so fatty it couldn't be eaten. The chicken was delicious! I loved how the a la carte reservations could be made any time during the day. There were never any long lines and the service was great! The Oriental Restaurant was awesome. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. The French Restaurant was not so great. The food was just ok but my friends food was terrible. She couldn't eat the chicken as it was too fatty. We cancelled our next reservation to eat there. The service was poor at this restaurant. My glass of wine was empty. The lady who was pouring wine at the next table spotted my empty glass but walked away. Hmmm. Not sure why. I was never offered a refill. The staff at this resort were all lovely and friendly and very helpful. The live music at night was beautiful. If you like Cuba and don't mind Cuban food then this resort is a great place to go.

Melia Marina Varadaro

The strength of this hotel is it's staff who are very friendly and hospitable. The other enjoyable aspect was the beach which is perfect. Returning visitors are treated to a fabulous meal and are able to meet the director general of the hotel and the other top staff. The rooms are not sumptuous but comfortable and offer a large bed with an overhead fan and modern air conditioning. We were there 9 days and were allowed to choose 4 speciality restaurants. There were 1300 people in the hotel with [... read more] 550 rooms. There were therefore lineups to get into the cafeteria. The food was very good. There were line ups for drinks at the beach. The beach restaurant had good food and drinks and excellent service. The view from our room was overlooking the marina which was panoramic and spectacular. It was very quiet and restful. The maids to our room were pleasant and honest and nice. There was no merchants and hawkers. Security was fantastic everywhere. This was our second visit and would consider going back.

Great resort

The Melia marina was amazing have been to Cuba 5 times and this was the best trip ever everyone was amazing rooms were nice and clean food was great I usually get sick and did but this time I would recommend the Melina to everyone it is a 5 star for sure thank you Melina marina will be back

Bad experience at the Melia Marina Varadero

I am very disappointed with my stay at the Melia Marina and being the fact that I was over charged compared to other guests at this resort. It is ridiculous everything I had to go through and let me start explaining to you my review. I hope something can be arranged to compensate this stay as this was the worse vacation I have ever had, and it is not okay to send your customers at a resort that states being a 5 star. Upon arrival we were put at the other end of the resort in the apartment no [... read more]t the apartments close to the resort but far enough that it will take you half hour to walk. At this point, we had waited almost 2 hours in our shuttle bus at 10pm because the bus couldn't leave due to a family not being on the bus, so make everyone else wait! Very frustrating. Not to mention the long waits already at the airport. I was very frustrated with hotel for being put in the wrong room, not to mention it was the dirtiest room I had ever seen in my travelling years. The sheets were dirty, with white spots all over it and the headboard as well plus the toilet wouldn't flush. Note that this is all at around 12:30 a.m. Then next morning we go to the lobby and let them know that we are in the wrong room, they offer us an "upgrade" in which is what we truly paid for so I wasn't impress. They then offered us a dinner at the level restaurant and we took the lobster that taste like rubber and potatoes that were who knows what. It can't be that hard to make mash potatoes! If you like good food, please do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere. The buffet food is repetitive as well and every day is the exact same items as the day before for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you like meat, not the place to go, if you're looking for seafood not the place to go either. It is repulsive after a couple of days and you start wishing you were either elsewhere or home. The service, was slow, the drinks were never the same from one server to the another, and I am not sure if it's because we are a lesbian couple but everyone always seemed to be served before us until someone would finally say, these ladies have been waiting to be served. Our new room (apartment), had a broken screen and window, the mosquitos kept coming in, I mentioned this several times and it finally got fixed after day 5. The washer dryer was also broken and was told it would be changed in 20 minutes and after waiting for over an hour I decided not to waste another day and left, they finally came several hours later. The coffee machine was also defective, wouldn't brew unless you held the pot up high. The bed was not comfortable, again stained and the room was full of patches on the wall which never got painted over. There was a mold smell in the room which was disgusting and thankfully when we weren't there to sleep we were on our balcony. The first bathroom was never cleaned, hair all over the floor and the shower was filthy so we never used it. There was nothing functional in the room, everything was broken and we had to call to get everything fixed which is very annoying. There are no activities or entertainment and quite boring unless you like to just sit around and drink/socialize all day in the lobby. The beach area is narrow and everyone stacks their chairs anywhere they can squeeze, which means you're practically sitting on the person next to you. Lots of bugs also, we got a few bites on our legs. The snack bar near the main pool... The worse service ever and they are so rude when they do serve you, I couldn't believe my eyes/ears. Also, we paid 1500$ a person to be here, and while speaking with other guests they all paid 900$-1000$ max based on about 10 people we spoke to, talk about being totally ripped off, disappointed and need another vacation to get some rest now.

Very Large

Nice Hotel. Good rooms, food is good but the same. Enjoyed the A La Carte restaurants. Hotel is very large and its far away to everything. Staff is great. Last hotel on the Peninsula so a long bus ride to go anywhere too. Beach is good. Water is clear. :)

Good time

Hotel was nice. Stores to walk to. Not enough information given on when and where the nightly entertainment was. Food was actually ok! Beaches were clean and staff friendly. Never felt like we had to leave a tip either.

Fantastic Vacation

Thank you Lisa for helping us with our trip. Melia Marina was amazing. From the airport to Melia ,from the check in to check out, everything was quick and efficient. The food was great with plenty of choices. the room was clean and with only steps away from the pool my wife and I really enjoyed everything. The pool was top notch and the service at the bars was outstanding. we met lots of people and made new friends. We would definitely go back to this resort in a heartbeat. Great location and good value for money

This resort has hotel and apartments. We stayed at apartment studio room with marina view. Room was spacious with kitchenette and even a washer. Have patience if you need something. We need to call 5 times to get housekeeping replenish a bottle of bath gel! Buffet was below average, very salty and repetitive. Only thing we like is the fresh papayas. The French restaurant was lousy (both food and service). Would recommend Italian restaurant and the Latin restaurant.

Amazinf resort

The hotel was amazing and the food was good for Cuba. The best part was the entertainment and friendly staff especially Yamilka and frank the entertainers who were upbeat and ran amazing activities on the beach and at the pool. Very fun and relaxing place. It will now be my "go to" spot in Cuba

Beach was great, resort was ok

Overall a decent hotel. I wouldn't go back to this same one, and I was expecting it to be a bit better based on other reviews. Food was consistent with my previous experiences in Cuba. The buffet was better than the a la carte restaurants. If you got to the buffet early, the food seemed to be better than if you got there late. Breakfast was pretty good, if you were willing to wait 20 minutes in line for the omelettes. Beach was amazing, and you will not be disappointed in this. It is ho [... read more]wever, on the other side of the road, so you have to walk over a bridge to get there. Pool area was just ok. Pillows and towels in the room were scarce; when we asked for extra, the maid would take them away the following day. Sheets were not changed when they needed to be. Water and beer was not replaced as needed.

Melia Varadero

Grounds were nice, just recently built so not as lush as some others in front, but Marina view was spectacular, All hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, our room was not good for 3 people very cramped and with glass partition not ideal for adults with young kids, the town was about 15 minutes away so about a $15 taxi cab, best place to go in Varadero is the Beatles bar, best night ever. The beach is not close enough to hotel back and forth was a bit of a pain, so we only went once.

Awsome resort

The Hotel was very nice ,clean good food and great people. I would definitely go back. We were there with 22 people brothers and sisters and mom and dad and they like it as well. The weather was perfect every day so that helps too. About 29c every day.
