Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Loved the resort and can't wait to go back!
I am not much of a traveler so I didn't really have any expectations but I can say that I would return in an instant. The resort was clean, the pools were clean, the folks were friendly, the buffets had something for everyone, the restaurants were great and easy to schedule, the activities and nighttime entertainment were fun. The Lazy River, Swim out room, Hydrotherapy Pool in the spa and their Pizza were all INCREDIBLE!! Zero Complaints about the resort.
I would absolutely recommend to a f[... read more]riend.
Having our direct flights cancelled both ways was a bummer because we didn't get to the resort until 11:30pm on our first day, so we paid for a full day but only got to enjoy 30 minutes. Our flight home was even worse. Checked out of hotel at 11am Wednesday and didn't get home until 10pm Thursday night.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Love it or Not!
The good: Resturant selection and food was great. Rooms were well laid out and kept spotless. Customer service is over the top and everyone is friendly.
The Bad: Not enough chairs on the beach or around the pool for the number of guests and people come out very early to put a towel on chairs as a reservation. The music at the pool seems to be from a pre-recorded track with little variation from day to day, by day 3 you need to find somewhere else to go away from the noise. The liquor is close[... read more]r to bottom shelf unless you pay for an upgrade. The floors are slippery when wet which happens quite often, people were falling down, be very careful.
The Ugly; Upgrades, Time Shares, Vendors on the beach, everywhere you go someone seems to want to sell you something.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Would not recommend
Honestly, don't go here. The customer service is beyond horrible. The resort is pretty clean, but overall experience wasn't great.
We went for my brothers 40th birthday, and the first day we arrived they said they would provide him with a complimentary cake and champagne on his actual birthday. They never did this. So I went back to customer service and politely told them they didn't bring the cake and champagne, and now that his birthday had passed there was no need to do it but I wanted them [... read more]to know they dropped the ball. The man apologized and said he would make sure they delivered the cake and champagne the following night - guess what? They forgot again. The people working there are not helpful, a little rude. The cleaning staff is nice. Our room was clean but when we first arrived there was not a single towel in our room, or garbage can, the remote's batteries were dead, no steamer in the steamer basket. I called and they brought me all the items (except the steamer, we never got this) but not a good first impression. The app is horrible, so good luck trying to make dinner reservations. It's always missing certain activities on the app, but we would walk by the main pool and see something going on, but it wasn't listed in the app. Anyway, overall I'm glad my brother had a good time but I wouldn't go back to this resort.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Wonderful Resort!
Quicly check in. Very well kept grounds, trees, gardens and cleanness, not showing it's 23 years old. Beach is amazing! Rooms (ours) no complains about our bed and AC, never run out of hot water, and excellent water flow, never run out of drinking water in the fridge. Buffet very repetitive, but abundant on everything including wine, cloth napkins, (something I haven't seen in a long time) waiter and waitress very attentive, unfortunatly if you are not on diamond club you are unable to reserve [... read more]a specialty restaurant. Great Sunwing flights and kind flight attedants. Overall, great 7 days!

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Don’t waste your money or time
I was really hoping this would be a great place to go despite all the negative reviews. Well wrong!! The reviews are bang on. I thought pre booking our room in the Diamond Club area and trying to stay clear of the negative feedback I was hearing would be good! Wrong!! After paying 100$ US to pre book our room, we waited to leave for our 2 week vacation. We finally arrive and the airport was a breeze so yay!! We get to the hotel and arrive in our room building 6 only to listen to the grinding an[... read more]d welding of the metal structure right beside us. We listen to this for 3 days with no end in sight. We listened to it all hours. We finally asked to be moved and they accommodate us to building 4 and OMG the smell!! It was coming out of the shower drain and all you could smell was something I would compare to cat pee or animal pee. The more the shower was on the stronger the smell. We asked to move to another room and they let us see the room above us only to go inside and run the shower and BANG!! There is the smell. The manger of the resort came to the room and you could see by the look on his face that he can smell it as well. There is a definite problem with this resort. Not to forget to mention the gas lighting for time shares and how they want you to attend the presentation and then you will get your hotel credits to use. The Royalton app only works when they want it to work!! I thought all the reviews could be wrong but they are not!! Please check your reviews before booking this resort. The food was good but this resort is very busy. Thank goodness for our waiter at the Hunter steak house, we had a reservation every night. We made sure we made it worth his time to save us a time slot for dinner every night. He was amazing. We opted not to use the butlers that were assigned for us as they were not helpful to us at all. We paid the fridge stock staff to keep up with the coffee pods as they would only give 1 or 2 a day. So he would stock up for us and we tipped him well. There was so many staff there trying to sell time shares or trying to get you to go to the presentation. I wanted to be at a resort with my spouse for some R & R since we work hard and saved a long time to go to this resort. I will not ever return to this place. Don’t waste your time or your money here. Pick a different place. Also the Hideaway side had the same smell! We are not picky people. We just wanted a place to relax!!

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Family Vacation
The check in to the Diamond Club was by far the worst experience we have had in the many Royaltons we have vacationed at. Two hours to check in and they didn't have the rooms we had requested. They over booked! The food, staff, butler service , drinks were very good. The grounds , lobby. and main bar area was terrific. The resort is very large when you include the adult only section, however, getting around the complex was fairly easy.

Royalton Blue Waters: Nicely maintaned, awesome staff, great ocean views.
Grounds/Beach/Pools: Lots of beach area, sand hand raked daily, landscape and lawn very well kept, pools cleaned and chemical balanced every morning. Lots of loungers at beach and pool areas and re-arranged every morning. Public bathrooms clean, fresh beach towels daily and no silly towel cards. Nice kids wading pool with small water slides, and four large tube slides for older kids/teens.
Needs Attention: Palapas (sun shelters) some canopies need repair. Several backrests broken on beach l[... read more]oungers and lots of cushions missing, dirty or torn.
Inside: Rooms are still new looking and meticulously cleaned daily. AC and Fan work well and have bedside controls along with light switches and the reading lamps are a nice touch. The TV is KEY to not just watching movies but also to checking weekly activities. Make sure your bell hop shows you how to use it. Beds are very comfortable and covers clean. Towels replaced daily. Nice bathrobes but one size. Some may require extra blankets if too cold. Dual rainfall shower heads are a very nice touch. Whirlpool tub in the middle of the bathroom area (draw curtain for privacy). Separate water closet (toilet). Balconies have two chairs and a table for relaxing anytime. Mini fridge has soda, beer and water.
What Needs Attention: Some in-room lights not working. Broken shower head holder that was not repaired during our 10 day stay.
Food: Excellent variety but try not to sample everything first day. They have theme days and vary the menu quite well. The restaurants must be booked via the inhouse APP loaded on your device and it could be frustrating the first time so get help. The restaurants food is very good and most have upgrade ($) options for entree's and wine. They should allow guests to partake in one or two more specialty restaurants available at the neighbouring Hideaway section. (We do not like Indian food and that left one less restaurant available to us). Overall food was very good.
Needs Improvement: Some portions are too large. (Steakhouse, Pasta). We found seasoning too salty and/or creamy. (Diabetic).
Bars: Tropical cocktails menus very popular but take too long to prepare. Martini bar is probably the best and most popular in the evening. Lobby, beach and pool bars always busy as folks just hang around sipping drinks on the stools, thus hampering other guests trying to order drinks.Get your drink and move on. Take advantage of the drink service. (Staff walking around Lobby, Pool, Beach) to order your drink.
Needs Attention: Not all bars carry same inventory like Fernet-Branca (excellent digestive amaro). Some often run out of Sweet Vermouth, Campari, or Aperol.
Summary: This is a five start resort that is well kept. At the most basic level it's very good. You can indulge in extras ($) from spa's to personal chef experience, daily cabana rentals with private pools right up to the Diamond Club package, especially if you enjoy high end drinks and liquors.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Very busy
We paid for an ocean view, all we saw were trees and the swimming pool. 3 separate front desk staff would not help us.
We were 3 adults. It took almost 2 full days to get a third chair for our balcony.
All vacationers must have gotten up at 3am to put a towel on all the chairs. We were able to sit at the pool only once during our 7 day stay. The beach chairs were close to the same.
Mostly the food was OK in the specialty restaurants, but the in the buffet food was barely warm.

Royalton Antigua Resort and Spa: Disappointing
This resort did not meet the standards we we expecting. The food at both the buffet and the a la carte restaurants was acceptable but did not offer either the variety or the quality we were expecting at a Resort of this stature. Despite being the busy season, there were frequent "not available" meals on the menus and unavailable ingredients. One night in the Italian restaurant, two people of our foursome got their orders while the other two waited over 10 minutes to receive theirs.
There [... read more]were many small inconveniences. In our room, one day the safe failed to open as we were about to leave and we had to wait for Security to open it. The seal around our balcony door was defective and the sound of wind in our room was near constant. There were many more inconveniences each too small to mention but collectively very bothersome.
Sunwing sent us an email shortly after arrival advising that their local Nexus representatives would be holding a meeting in the lobby at 10 the next morning. After arrival we and others eventually found out that the "meeting" was actually at 9:30 the following morning.
Overall, just too many lapses to forgive.

Royalton Hideaway Saint Lucia: We loved the Hideaway
I am not sure why we saw so many negative reviews of this place…we loved it! We had a lovely room, a great view of the ocean, and the people who worked there were very friendly. We have travelled a lot and have never have had such a great room. The food was really good—there were plenty of options and we were delighted with most of the food we got. We thought that the Nexus trips were amazing—we did the party sunset catamaran trip and loved it even though we are in our late 60’s! We took the he[... read more]licopter trip back to the airport to avoid the long drive and it was so much fun!
Our only complaint was that they want you to download an app to make dinner reservations and it didn’t work properly. However, we were able to walk in to most restaurants without reservations. We highly recommend the Hideaway at Royalton.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Great Resort fof Kids!!
It was such a beautiful, well kept property on lots of beach. Lots of different dining options that you could easily reserve on the royalton app.
Check in was a little rough, one of the two rooms weren't ready and with kids at 11pm, it makes it a challenge.
Very responsive concierge on the app, anything you asked for came promptly.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Older Adults Resort
The resort itself is really nice and very clean. But the staff is not very friendly, you can’t make a reservation at any restaurant and we were turned away a few times. The bar and a few restaurants don’t have music. They also don’t have a DJ at their club. The entertainment and the resort vibe is really lacking. It’s a resort for older adults in my opinion

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: A very nice resort on one of the world's best beaches in a beautiful country.
We two seniors just returned from our first visit to the Royalton Hicacos (a local shrub's name) Jan 9 - 16; our 10th Cuban trip to various resort locations on the island. The resort was less than full during our trip, and had guests mostly from Canada, plus a few Brits and even some Russians.
Overview:
A lovely, convenient location and a very pretty resort. That beach and warm sea! Great and responsive staff. Undergoing gradual renovation to modernise the site. Spacious room and bathroom [... read more]with good housekeeping services. Excellent bars and small stores in the central area. Good value overall. Just don't expect the food range and cooking expertise of Mexico, DR or other Caribbean places.
Best things:
The Sunwing flight left on time and was only 3 hours 10 minutes long.
The Cuban people, whether they were the folks working on the resort or those we met outside, were friendly, kind, smiling, invariably polite and helpful.
The location: not far from the Varadero airport, pretty, compact and easy to navigate around. All the buildings are only a short walk to the magnificent beach with its shallow blue water and powdery sand.
The Jazz Bar near the buffet: a great pianist, excellent service and a nice intimate break.
The room: spacious and comfortable with lots of storage and no problem with hot water.
The front desk staff and the butlers: great English, easy to deal with and responsive. We had to move rooms from our original, very newly renovated room (its fresh paint smell set off my wife's allergies) to an older but very functional room of the same size.
The "Bistro" aka Snack Bar runs 24/7 and the staff were wonderful; great fries and Capuchinos too. And the ice cream outlet opposite has lovely flavors we don't get back home.
The Sunwing reps: very helpful, easily available to guests, and with lots of good suggestions. Brenda assisted us very efficiently with getting our room changeover completed by the front desk.
The main pool area bar staff - especially the hard-working ladies there - who were quick, fun and were fine with serving the better brands. Our drinks (beer, brandy, red wine and Champagne mostly) were excellent everywhere.
Lots of ripe papaya in the buffet; most of the fruit was good there. The breads, yucca and sweet potatoes were tasty and the salmon was surprisingly good.
The combo that played each night in the main pool bar (which is so pretty) was good, playing a nice range of mostly Latin music.
The Nexus tour local excursion - to the sugar cane plantation and factory; rum distillery and shop; and cigar bar with cigar rolling demonstration - was very enjoyable. The complimentary cigar and bottle of rum for each person were unexpected and very appreciated, as were the generous rum tastings.
The most interesting sight? Seeing workers going to their morning jobs in a traditional horse and buggy (as well as mostly using Chinese-supplied buses, of course) while checking their smart phones as the horse trotted along. The very old and modern all together; go figure.
What we did not enjoy so much:
The flight to Varadero was cold. Crazy to see lots of people wearing their winter coats inside the plane. The flight back was the same, until lots of folks complained. We were told only the Boeing 737's pilot could control the heating. If true, it is probably because jet planes use extra fuel to heat the cabin; so cheap.
We took lots of small, everyday items down with us to give to locals. I asked Sunwing beforehand if we could perhaps exceed the 50 pounds checked bag limit very slightly if necessary. I got back a very firm "NO" email, ironically from the "Sunwing Cares" email address.
The way the buffet was set up led to needless line-ups and could be organised much better.
The older cooks used excessive salt on everything and cooked food for too long, although we found a younger cook who was great.
Butter was available at breakfast; not at other times. But I was able to get a staff person to find me some little butter servings in the kitchen when I asked.
The entertainment was limited but the Opera Music night sounded good, the dancers are very good at everything they attempted, and the Water Ballet was the week's highlight. But we were driven away from the shows because the sound level each night was way excessive, far louder than would be permitted in any workplace in Ontario. Why pay good money to damage your hearing? Best to take ear plugs.
The same complaint applies to the combo that played in the main bar: the music was great but do they ever need to turn down that volume; folks go there to socialise and chat, not to shout at each other to be heard.
The music at the beach, which is often one of our favorites, was poor. Most of it was not Latin music, just the monotonous, computerised stuff teenagers back home seem to like now. Where were the lovely Salsa, Bachata and Meringue tunes, etc. that let you know you are in Cuba?
Bottom line:
A very nice resort on one of the world's best beaches in a beautiful country that somehow retains its humor, warmth and social cohesion. And all this despite living under communism for 65 years while still waiting for the revolution's benefits to arrive. The Cubans we met travelling around know the regime's days are numbered and change will come. They also know the US embargo has back-fired, by giving the regime a constant excuse to hide its own faults and flawed socialist ideology. Go visit Cuba soon, while it is still unique.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Royalton (not so) Chic
We are a group of men who have been enjoying an annual guys' trip for the past 25 years. Over the years, we've visited Punta Cana multiple times, but this was our first stay at Royalton Chic. Typically, we take online reviews with a grain of salt, dismissing minor complaints. However, after our experience at your resort, we felt compelled to share our thoughts in the hopes that constructive feedback will help improve future guests' stays.
Areas for Improvement:
Sanitation Concerns: Many pu[... read more]blic bathrooms lacked hand soap, which is a significant hygiene issue, especially since guests handle food at the buffet.
Also, we also observed bar staff quickly rinsing dirty drinkware without soap.
Limited Amenities: There were not enough chairs or umbrellas around the pools and the beach, and the absence of towel cards allowed guests to hoard chairs unnecessarily.
Infrastructure: Broken and missing tiles, crumbling areas, and dated furniture detracted from the resort's overall appearance. In our room, the closet doors had to be removed to access the closet.
Basic Room Essentials: Bathroom tissues were scarce, bottled water and beer replenishment in the room took four days and 15 requests, and it took an entire week to get batteries for the TV remote.
Activities and Entertainment: The lack of water sports, minimal nightlife, and limited activities left us with little to do on-site. Guests even had to clean up the volleyball court themselves to play safely.
Dining: While the à la carte restaurants were enjoyable, the buffet was repetitive and lacked variety.
What We Enjoyed:
Friendly Staff: Your staff’s hospitality was exceptional, and we’d like to give special recognition to Maribi in the coffee bar, Alexandra at the buffet, and Pedro at the bar near the Indian restaurant. They were consistently friendly and attentive, which greatly enhanced our experience.
À la Carte Dining: The food in the specialty restaurants was delicious and well-prepared.
We strongly encourage the management to conduct regular walk-throughs of the property to identify and address these issues. While we appreciated the friendliness of your staff and some aspects of the dining experience, the resort's shortcomings overshadowed these positives.
We hope you take this feedback to heart and make the necessary improvements so that future guests can fully enjoy their stay. Thank you for your attention to these matters.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Beautiful resort!
This is a beautiful resort with gorgeous grounds, amazing beach and lots to do — Lazy River is a huge bonus and so much fun!
While the rooms are a little dated, they are very clean with comfortable beds and good amenities like a hair dryer, ample closet space and a soaker tub. Air conditioning worked perfectly. Room service was reliable and always arrived within 45-minutes.
The a-la-carte restaurants are great with excellent service and good food. Our favourite was Grazie, the Italian res[... read more]taurant. Getting reservations was easy for us as we would log on to the Royalton app after midnight to reserve. We were able to get reservations for each restaurant. The buffet has lots of choice. The dishes were sometimes cold and we avoided anything (like cold cuts) that looked like they might not be kept at the right temperature.
The beach is absolutely beautiful with lots of loungers. The water is crystal clear and warm! The beach is well taken care of and is a reason all in itself to stay at this resort.
The resort activities at the Infinity pool were so much fun! Highlight was the foam party! The White Party fire show was fantastic, as was the Lion King performance at Royalton Square. The early evening musical entertainment was beautiful and really helped to create an enjoyable atmosphere.
The service was also excellent. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is that the concierges are relentless in trying to sell you upgrades to Diamond Club (and maybe more — we never attended the pitch meeting) and we had to tell several of them “no” multiple times. It put a damper on the trip as we were worried about running into them throughout the day.
Themed “days” like Tex-Mex by the Infinity Pool served some of the best resort food we have ever had. They also brought in outside bands on these days that you can listen and dance to from the pool (or on the deck). You can tell the Royalton Bavaro team puts a lot of thought into entertaining their guests.
The excursion staff also give you a really hard sell and don’t often take your first “no” as an answer. This was just a mild annoyance as they were all very friendly.
We would 100% recommend this resort to families with children from 1 to 17. We travelled with our 17-year old and she had a blast! ☀️?

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great place
This place was truly amazing. The staff was kind and professional. The food was amazing. The ocean wasn’t crystal clear but the beach was beautiful and clean. The rooms were clean and relaxing. I would love to go back!
