Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Amazing Beach
Arrived at Sanctuary after a long drive there and had to wait over an hour for our room.
No robes with our room and had the coffee maker changed out and it was so slow we just went to buffet to get coffee. The room was clean and we had lots of hot water. We had to request the in room liquor dispenser to be filled .The view from the room was piles of garbage in the back from the storm damage which was removed after 4 days of being there. We had many troubles getting a clean table to sit down and[... read more] have breakfast at Sanctuary, and at times went to Grand Memories for meals as they had a better selection and more comfortable place to sit and have a meal. The food was not the best, we left the only A'la Carte we went to for the Grand Memories buffet. The line up's at Sanctuary grills were long and blocked the rest of the buffet, sometimes our meal was nearly over by the time we got some water or coffee. The entertainment was enjoyable. Smoking is allowed every where !! The resort is big and cart buggies are available. It seemed dangerous at times as some didn't have working lights and the people were expected to move off walkways when 2 carts met on the road. Service seemed to be good with tips and not so good without tips. The beach was beautiful but not much shaded spots at Sanctuary. No beach bathroom here but Grand Memories and Parraiso have beach washrooms. You have to walk down to one of the other resorts or go back to your room.Everyone was allowed down at the Sanctuary (Adults Only) part of the beach. There are no vendors on the beach which allowed you to really enjoy your time there. The Market was enjoyable. There was nothing available to eat when we checked out at 5 am.It was our first time to Cuba and it was a let down.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Beautiful Resort
We stayed Jan 17-24 and our stay was excellent. We booked trip with trip central and flew air canada business class. The only way to fly! The tour operators were friendly and told us about Cuban life and history. Our hotel was ocean view, room was immaculate and daily cleaned and fresh towels. The grounds are large but the layout works well with main lobby and buffet in the centre and on each side are pools, snack bars as well as 3 beach access with bars and bbq. The staff are all exceptional wi[... read more]th smiles, friendly chatter and prompt service and a tip is always welcomed! The al cartes were good but our only wish was for hotter food... the seafood restaurant food was served hot but no such luck at the Italian or Asian and even the buffet had warm food never hot unless you had it prepared for you-again the staff do an awesome job. Lots of food choices, beverages and coffee bar is wonderful... great location with beautiful beaches and water sports. The week went by too fast as we would have loved to stay longer.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Amazing staff
The staff made up for some of the flaws, ran out of bread 4 days in a row. Chicken was for the most part raw. The pizza hut also ran out of their bread dailybas well. Fortunately we found good fruit and vegetables. Beach was clean and gorgeous. The pool was Lovely and staff were wonderful and assertive. Rooms were clean and cool. So over all 6/10

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Restorations Are Still Being Completed
It is a beautiful resort even though lots of work still is being completed. They have recovered fast considering it was the most affected area of Cuba that was hit by Hurricane Irma. The food is repetitive only due to the Agriculture being affected as well, but there still is a variety of food at the buffet and the A la Carte Restuarants. The Entertainment at night was in the lobby due to the stage still being repair but was still fun and interactive. All the waitresses, waiters and cooks in th[... read more]e Restuarant were very nice and customer service from them amazing had great laughs with them all. The maids can do a better job, changing the sheets and pillow cases as well as not forgetting to leave toilet paper and washing of the tub and floors.
The Reception staff and Reiner we attentative to my needs, and performed great customer service. Reiner and I had some great laughs on my last day, Hop on his Party Bus to take a ride around the resort and go shopping at the market at the Resort next door. Ho see the Pirate ship and get your picture taken. The Bartenders and the service waiters around the lobby bar were very friendly and would not allow you to try and serve yourself, which I thought was relaxing. The Resort as a whole was beautiful, with a great atmosphere, relaxing and humble.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Fantastic location
The location is wonderful. My room looked right upon the ocean (0451) and the warm breeze and sound of the waves were awesome.
The beach is clean and to walk the length of it is a nice walk.
The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. Very kind.
Negative is hard as this area is recovering from Hurricane Irma and that is evident in some areas.
The food was tiresome...but swing into what they do better vs what North Americans are used to: the feta cheese outstanding, fish w[... read more]as fantastic and eggs for days. It is a bit repetative but fine. I did not try the restaurants.
2 beers and 2 sodas a day in your room but you can ask for more.
The live music had some very talented musicians. The violinist was my favourite. He was part of a duo for dinner music and it was very good.
Overall I would definitely recomend this resort, just bring a few snacks and treats from home to tide you through.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Spacious Resort
This is a great resort and we were not disappointed. Their rooms are very comfortable and lots of room to unpack with plenty of drawer space. Also a plus is screens for patio doors we were able to sleep to the sound of the ocean. The lobby and bar is very roomy good thing as we had rainy days. The buffet had a good selection of foods even the pickiest eater would make out okay. Because of hurricane damage selection of fresh fruit was limited. The a la carte restaurants were good and offered a ni[... read more]ce change. On a whole the property was very clean and gardens well maintained. The pool areas were clean and basically provided shade when required.
The beach has about 4 different locations with separate paths to each. 2 beaches were very nice as others needed work done to them.
We would recommend to anyone.

Everything was fantastic I surprised my wife donna with this christmas gift the resort catered to us like you would not believe the food was the greatest the morning coffee was one of the best things just before breakfast they had bbq pork for a couple of nites which was very good and even had the biggest lobster tails I ever saw of course I went back for seconds they also had 3 al carte resturants that you have to make resorvations for which I highly recomend the beach was very nice to swim in [... read more]no coral reefs to go snorkling but they have catamrans which they take you out at no cost they serve burgers on the beach at no cost and hot dogs and chicken burgers no complaints.A nice beach bar with any kind of top of the line beer or alcohol .the bar at the resort is a thrill at nite the live music was so nice and the nitley theater shows were outstanding .I would highly recomend this to anyone.I dealt with natasha from tripcentral she made feel comfortable and answered every question for me I want to thank her again. Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful Spot
Complex made up of a series of 3-level smaller buildings on pristine grounds just off the beachfront. Plenty of food choices for meals. Staff very friendly. Wonderful beach. Electric cart shuttle from your hotel room to the buffet for the ultra-lazy. Too far of a drive from the airport so best to avoid late arrivals.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Hurricane? What hurricane!
Checked the TripAdvisor reviews before we booked, but still amazed that maintenance staff got things fixed up so quickly and effectively. New roofing on the buildings and beach huts, gardening has done a great job of replacing damaged plants, everything looked better than I remembered from my 2016 visit, especially the beach which is ever wider. Buffet and a-la-carte restaurant food was excellent - except for the Panda Rojo, which is a continuing disaster. All staff were friendly and helpful,[... read more] and we especially exchanging "Ola!" with the housekeeping and cleaning ladies who were invariably smiling. Nine trips to Cuba, seven different resorts in various regions, but the Playa Cayo Santa Maria keeps coming out as Numero Uno.

Melia Las Dunas: Beautiful Resort
Just spent another week at Las Dunas and we loved it.
Our room was freshly painted, spacious and closed to the adult pool and the walkway to the beach. It was very clean and the room service was excellent.
The gardens were beautiful but the palms trees had lost most of their palms during the Irma hurricane. The vast lobby renovated after the storm was gorgeous and had live music with dancing every evening.
The main cafeteria and the restaurants were all renovated and the food was really excel[... read more]lent every day. The beach was being widened to about 100 meters by a ship pumping water and sand on the beach through a big floating hose approximately 1 kilometer long. The construction area was curtained and it did not affect our ability to swim in the ocean.
The live shows in the theatre on most evenings were simply outstanding with the dancers and the singers.
The personnel at Las Dunas is very friendly and helpful. We feel very safe all the time.
Overall: a very enjoyable and relaxing week.
We already booked to return in early March.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful Resort
The resort was beautiful. Nice big rooms, nice clean washrooms at the lobby and pool (not always the case in Cuba). The beach was amazing. The customer services was also top notch. They had waiters coming around at the pool and in the lobby to take your order - no need to go to the bar. The people working in the buffet were also great. One of the cooks at the meat station even brought our cooked chicken/pork to our table after the first or second supper (my husband did tip him each time). [... read more] The pool was kept clean and our rooms were cleaned daily and included a towel creature each day with a note from our maid. The mini-bar was stocked daily and one day it wasn't so we called up to the lobby and they send someone down right away. (apparently I had been sleeping when they came originally and didn't want to disturb me)
My only complaint is that the food at the buffet was the same every night. Now that being said there was lots of variety of food so not an issue to find food to eat, and I found there was a better selection of vegetables from other resorts I've been too.
Be aware that the drive from the airport to the resort is an hour and 45 minutes. We were aware of this as we've been there before.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Great mid-winter vacation!
I didn't expect much, the reviews were mixed, some people complained about food, bugs, hurricane damage... But we needed up having a blast!
The hotel was nice, rooms clean... Staff are always eager to make our stay more fun. The food by Cuban standards was actually good - fresh juices in the morning, a selection of fish and meat... The entertainment at this hotel is spectacular! Plus they have live violin/guitars/piano playing at all restaurants and the buffet. I had my favourite violin/guitar [... read more]duo, I'd stay longer just to listen to them. The animation team has activities all day long. We did salsa, merengue lessons and some entertainers went to the disco with us... The bugs are bad! They have regular mosquitoes and these tiny flying things that bite... Bring bug spray and after bite. Nights get a bit windy and cold, so bring a sweater or a jacket. Also, there's really no place to go to explore, you're pretty much stuck on an island, but if you wanted a quiet get away, this place is perfect. We had an awesome time!

Valentin Perla Blanca: beautiful resort and employees! Management needs to better take care of the guests concerns
The positive - Beautiful lobby. Food is good, beach and pools are beautiful. Tennis courts and gym are good. Good Cuban bands in the lobby bar area in the evenings.
The not so good- Hotel guest relations is the place to address any issues. Very little of our concerns were addressed. Lots of guests drinking at this resort, we heard fighting, swearing and saw lots of drunk guests and the fall out of that.
Many issues with our room, and heard many other guests concerns.
Lobby/pool wa[... read more]shrooms not properly maintained at certain times.
I would not return to this hotel.

Valentin Perla Blanca: 1* not 5*
Room was amazing. Had an amazing young man (waiter and lady who conducted the entertainment at the pool both went above and beyond my expectations) But that’s where it ends. Service when I first got there was absolutely brutal! We got in at 1:30am no one smiled no one welcomed us, a party of 8 girls for a 50th birthday. Paid $1800 for Imperial Suite that included a welcoming drink, didn’t get one until I went to the bar. Gave me a voucher for my Lobster Dinner for two when I arrived then end[... read more]ed up charging me for the dinner for two before I departed the following Friday no bottle of Rum or Massage which I paid for in my package! And to top off my week charged me $5.90 which I had to pay for before they would give me my ticket to leave Cuba for an umbrella that another vacationer stole from the restaurant I was at on my birthday. I spent more time at the front desk with a bunch of staff that could not make a decision without talking to someone more superior ( who would not come out to talk to me directly) Every public bathroom smelled like urine and consistently ran out of toilet paper ( we carried our own rolls in our purses after the second day. I would never recommend this resort solely on the lack of customer service. The staff is very young, could not speak English and the staff that could either couldn’t make a decision or was just plan rude. Maids were totally rude and more interested in where my missing umbrella was, bugged me for three days about it. Hope they loved the tips I gave them well for the first three days.Bartenders at the pool where the activity’s were we 5 star. As well as activities staff 5 stars.
But the other
Bartenders in the small main bar up top looked angry all the time as well as the waitresses in the bar area. As for the food it was ok not great and three days in ran out of bread and vodka. Try and order food at the 24 hour restaurant and you think your getting a sandwich and you get a salad. If you enjoy No Bread, No Service, French Fries, and can Pee Standing Up then book now!

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Great Family Vacation
We travelled January 10 to 17 and had a mix of good and not great wrather, so we had a great opportunity to experience the whole resort.
This was our 9th trip to Cuba so we knew what to expect. The beach was great, but there is some major coastal erosion at the West end. There was still hundreds of feet of coastline and great beach. You can also explore in both directions as there are no other resorts sharing the beach. Good shell hunting which my daughter enjoyed. The snorkeling is quite poo[... read more]r, however...most of the coral has been destroyed by the hurricanes.
Pools are great. The kids pool keeps the triple pool quiet for adults to enjoy. Towels were available all the time...every day...that never happens in our experience.
Food was very tasty but lines for freshly prepared eggs or grilled meats or pasta were very long and slow. Everything was very good, but a bit repetitive and slow lines make the buffet congested. The Ranchon by the beach was amazing. Best lunches and bbq we've ever had in Cuba hands down. Snack bar was amazingly quick and good food whenever we went.
That brings me to the very best part of the whole resort...the service. I'm not there to make friends so no shout outs to anyone...but my sincere thanks to everyone who showed up each and every day to work hard, serve well, and so a good job. From the guy who stocks the fridge to the lady who changes out beach towels; to the bartenders to the golf-cart guys. Everyone was working and everyone was respectful and positive. It made for a deeply good feeling which we all noticed and greatly appreciated.
Finally, the room was perfect. Good A/C and cleaned well (floors washed and shower wiped down each day) and early (usually during breakfast and always before lunch for us) which was great.
Overall this was not the highest rated or most expensive resort we've tried, but it was our best overall experience. We will be back!
