Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Clean but needs better service

It has beautiful clean grounds but lack of service. It says it offers king beds and coffee makers but they don’t. 90% of rooms is two double beds that are not comfortable at all but are clean. Maids due a great job. Buffet is very good and the only place you get great service. Bars are always a wait and there is no waitresses except if you sit in main entrance and even then it’s a good half hour wait for anything. I would give it a three star at best.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great resort for young families

We stayed at this resort as a family of 4, two children aged 5 and 6. This place was really great for their age as the pool was shallow and the water slides were the perfect sizes. The food was okay at the buffet, the a la cartes were very good. Highly recommend the Japanese restaurant, the chefs were great with the kids and food was very flavorful. Grand Memories Varadero: Decent resort

Don't expect too much for your room. Food has a lot of room for improvement. If you fly from Vancouver with Sunwing you lose one day(red eyes fly both ways). People are nice but... If I will go again to Cuba, Varadero is not on my list.

Mar Del Sur: Terrible

When it rains, the lobby area floods and you are walking in puddles .dark and gloomy lighting. My room was 13-110.i got bedbugs from the sheets .still itching one wk later. Food was bad as well .same everyday.no variety and everyday they would run out of something.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good bang for your buck

My family With kids (6,4 and 11 months) really enjoyed our stay at This resort. The kids club always had great activities for the kids to do. There was a variety of shows for kids and adults. The entertainment staff at the beach and pools were very entertaining. The food was good always something for everyone. The a la cartes were really good. My only negative was the pool temperatures were really cold. The kids and adults could only play for a bit before our lips turned blue. Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Spend your money elsewhere

I was very disappointed in this resort, the room had large amounts of black mould in it, water damage on the ceiling and walls, bed sheets were not changed the whole time we were there, no toilet paper left in our room one day, I had to beg another housekeeper for a roll and only got it after I showed her what little we had left in our room. We tipped every day, so it is not because we did not tip. Several of the elevators do not work around the resort, I read about this prior to going and it s [... read more]eems to be an on-going issue. Some of the public washrooms around the resort do not have toilet paper, hand soap or paper towels past noon and many of the times the washroom doors are locked from the inside with no one in them. The hallways have several holes in them where the tiles have broken, but it has caused holes 2 inches deep, some greater than 4 inches wide. An accident waiting to happen. The food on the buffet was good and I was never hungry, but after 10 days, I was tired of eating what little selection they had. The a la cartes are usually better than the buffet. Not so much with this resort. Their Steakhouse does not have steak on it's menu, or even beef at all. How can it be called a steakhouse? The food in it was okay. While we were at the Teppanyaki restaurant I had a cockroach run across the bar in front of me while the chef was preparing our food. I trapped him under a cup so everyone else did not know. I understand it's a tropical location, but still not nice to see. The drinks were great and we never had to wait very long to get a drink, no matter where we went. The staff were amazing and very friendly at the bars and restaurants. The few shows we did see were very good. The singers they have on staff are amazingly talented. When we were there, they decided to rip up the stage and perform the shows in the main lobby. It was hard to get a seat when the show was done inside (rain, windy) and when it was done on the patio, seats were also just as limited because they just don't have the seats available for a show. You could not sit in the lobby and enjoy a drink during the showtimes because you couldn't hear yourself think with the show going on, and there was no where else to drink other thank the snack bar at that time, but they did not have the same selection. Not a huge deal, but, it ended our evening early a few nights because we could not find seats for the show, did not want to stand, and could not hear each other talk at the lobby bar because the show was happening right there. I will never return to this resort, or Varadero, this is my second time in Varadero and I have not enjoyed either trip. I have been other places in Cuba and will stick with them. I will not recommend this resort to anyone, ever.

Memories Jibacoa: Great resort!

This is a fun resort to go to, lots of talented entertainment and food is really good! The age group is mostly 40 and up but saw some young ones there too .The ala Carte restaurants were excellent and the grounds and plantation well kept and very clean. The rooms were a bit dated , and ours had some things were need for repair but plenty of hot water. Great snorkelling reef off the beach and love the 2 bars down at the beach. I would recommend this resort .

Mar Del Sur: Dated hotel

Hotel is terrible. When it rains the lobby area gets drenched and you walk around in puddles. My room was 13-110.i got bedbugs from the sheets and 1 wk later still recovering . Food was also horrific. Same stuff everyday and not very tasty. Bar staff only friendly to long time tourists.

Playa Vista Azul: Great resort

The rooms were kept very nice and the pools and beaches were great. The food at the buffet was not very good but the a la carte restaurant were better. Overall the resort was nice but needed better entertainment and more activities.

Club Kawama: Great resort but needs a bit of T.L.C.

It isn't my first time there, I believe my 7th. But the last couple of times I noticed that it's starting to need some renos. We would wake up every morning to a mountain of sand in the bath full of ants that would somehow come out through the drain. We would rinse it and it would come right back overnight. We also had a none working A.C. all week. Our room neighbour had a broken toilet all week that they couldn't flush at all, they made a complaint at the front desk and it never got fixed. Sol Palmeras: Great location for a 50th birthday

Have been in Cuba many times but mostly on the Santiago side. First time in Varadaro and at Sol Palmeros. Had a family junior suite which was awesome. The food was better than I was used to and some good selection as well. The beach was amazing. The resort did a great job with my birthday party. Recommend this resort for Cuba lovers. Playa Caleta: Wow this place went to the shits

Wow really were do I start people this place is a tolite really it is they dont wash there coffee cups or plates silware with dish detergent also pool was really dirty got food poison this was my second time here within the year and the very last time I will go to this resort it really went to the shits also if you go to cuba dont listen to the rep on the bus back to the airport your pesos still can be use at the duty free there scamming you they try to buy back your pesos at par crooks I c [... read more]ould go on and on but bottom line it's your call varadero sucks from now on it will only be holguin area for me treated with respect there boom done

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Beautiful beach, two star resort

Lobby is nice and looks grand, good WiFi on the resort, most staff were nice but some did not smile and looked like they did not want to help you. Resort ran out of room towels, bottled water, french fries, yogurt etc. food did not have variety or taste, showers were cold. Staff in kids area on their phones most of the day.

Blau Varadero: Can’t wait to return!

The hotel, grounds, and pool were all very nice and in good shape and the beach was perfect. The shower had new fixtures with plenty of hot water and high water pressure. Every staff member we encountered were friendly and eager to please. The buffet was much better than we expected and two dinners at a la carte restaurants are included. We will definitely be back next winter!

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Overall good experience

This hotel is best suited for the easy going traveller. Everything was ok, not spectacular. The noise was a bit loud at night when trying to sleep. I’d recommend a higher level and a room away from the street traffic. Having said that, the grounds and beach were beautiful! Well worth the money we paid :)

Hotel Blau Las Morlas Varadero Beach: Never Again

Ants in each room, cappuccinos are horrible, staff in lobby and bars are not friendly, most staff do not speak ANY English, entertainment is weak, tv’s and phones in most hotel do not work. Beach was best part of the whole stay! Couldn’t ask for more beautiful weather.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Couldn’t wait to leave!

I’ve never been on vacation before and wanted to leave early. I felt very disappointed in this resort and its management. This is no where near a 4.5 star, not even for Cuba. If you haven’t already booked your trip and you value a comfortable stay with edible food then I’m going to suggest booking elsewhere. If you already booked the resort then see my survival tips below... My survival tips: bring lots of snacks, snacks also available in the gift shop, drink alcohol for calories,  [... read more]you might want packets of Heinz ketchup & maple syrup for pancakes and bring a zip tie in case your shower head won’t attach. The good: -The ice cream lady is the best part of this resort -The fries change daily but they were our go to breakfast food because the buffet is horrible -The Japanese a la carte was the best. Make sure you book your a la cartes or you’re going to starve -The lobster medallion appetizer in Casa Lasa was one of the best appetizers I’ve had in any restaurant. -Find Elizabeth, a server in the buffet in the small separate dining area. She comes on out of no where but she’s very attentive and a hard worker. -The frozen girly drinks are excellent. Order a few at a time because service can be slow. -The beach is one of the best in the world, except the resort had no part in this. Thank Mother Nature. The hotel sort of impacted my ability to enjoy it due to its miss management and lack of maintenance. -The pool area is great we were here most of the trip -The A/C worked well in the room The bad: -Italian a la carte missing two main courses. Menu is hard to understand. Same level of pasta is available in the buffet. Avoid the beef appetizer... unless you like thinly sliced raw beef on a plate. -The bar service and waitstaff can be a little slow or ignore you completely despite tipping them -Musty smell in room -I love my coffee and the coffee was hit or miss. Suggestion: small coffee maker in the room. I would have loved a small coffee maker in the room so I could sit and enjoy a cup of coffee on the balcony. I didn’t drink hardly any coffee on this trip because it was cold or there were coffee grounds inside my cup. -Water shut off Mon, Jan 20 around dinner time for repairs. So much for showering before dinner. -Cold shower the following morning -Having no towels on the day of departure for the pool or to shower with. Maybe a few towels in the spa area available. I brought one towel from home because that’s all I could fit in my suitcase. This was where the air canada rep advised us to shower as our plane left at 10pm. The ugly: -Rm 14311: No room safe as advertised. As per hotel policy they are not responsible if items go missing and weren’t locked in a safe. Except our room didn’t have one. Air canada rep tried to get me another room, however room we were offered was subpar to the one we were in, except it had a safe. We opted to stay in the room and carry valuables with us. Except it made it hard to enjoy the beach because I had to watch my bag. -The buffet food is cold and mostly inedible. Interesting after tastes, textures and temperatures. It was definitely a deal breaker for us on never returning. -Avoid the outdoor buffet. I had a fly in my food and other guests told me they witnessed birds eating the rice in the tray and staff shooing them away. There is bird droppings all over the sitting area. Suggestion: cover the food with a clear lid people can lift off. Clean up the bird poop more regularly. -The hand railings in building 14 on the right side from the 2nd to 3rd level are extremely loose and unsafe. They need a few bolts added and tightened. End caps are missing. -Bread used for burgers. Then one day we went full keto because they were out of bread and buns. -The elevators don’t seem to work so if you have someone with a disability that needs an elevator or in my case have to drag heavy luggage up a few levels of stairs. -During our stay we received several insect bites. We never noticed any mosquitos and only spent an hour or two at the beach. So really hoping they aren’t bed bug bites. -If other guests are rowdy and inappropriate... don’t expect them to do anything about it This resort has so much potential due to it’s location and lay out. So I really hope management is paying attention, taking notes and taking action on making improvements.

Blau Varadero: Wonderful adult only resort!

BLAU Veradero is by far the best all inclusive resort I have visited. Room was spotless and comfortable. Well attended by cleaning staff. Resort was pristine and had many comfortable areas to enjoy. The resort isn't too spread out, everything being within 5 minutes walk. I appreciated that aspect. Pools is huge and chairs at pool and beach were always available. The staff is always smiling and the activities were yoir usual beach or poolside fun...I especially enjoyed Tony's yoga at the  [... read more]pool each morning. Most of all, the food was amazing. Daily seafood choices were superb (octopus, calamari, shrimp, mussels, swordfish, salmon, whitefish) and each evening, along with the ample regular choices , a special item was also being offered. Ie: sushi, turkey, roast..... I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable and worry free week away!

Muthu Playa Varadero: Very dated resort

This was our first trip to Cuba. The hotel entrance was very nice but the 2 out buildings were very old and dated. The grounds are very well kept and all the staff are extremely friendly. The food at this resort isn’t very good and I would rate it a 1 out of 5. We stayed in building 1 and it had a weird smell and mould in our rooms. This building is falling apart and needs a lot of work. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Definitely not a 5 star! 😪

We were not at all happy with this resort for the following reasons: - we lined up for an hour and a half to book specialty restaurants but were not able to get all the ones we wanted - it’s an all-inclusive resort but there were 2 days they ran out of wine - there were several occasions we went to a bar for a drink but they had no glasses - we went to the pizza snack bar but they had no cheese so they couldn’t make pizza - although the room was spacious, it was dated and not clean - i [... read more]t was very hard to get a chair at the pool or on the beach as they were all “reserved” - towels or books on them but nobody on them - while we weren’t expecting great food, it was mediocre at best - cappuccino machine wasn’t working when we went for coffee - machines were out of order in the gym - the water in the pool was too cold to swim in All in all, the resort is quite tired and rundown.
